Description of Work: Handymatters has done a number of jobs for us, such as putting in closet doors, redoing a staircase to the basement, etc. They have also been a wonderful resource for jobs that they don't do, such as when we needed to find someone to install base heaters. They are very professional, friendly, and their services are reasonably priced.

Excellent, timely service!
Description of Work: We asked them to come to fix a broken tile in the bath, and Deirdre pointed out that the problem was actually in the grout and the faucet, and we were able to see that this was the case! She fixed the underlying problems on the spot and we were very happy with the service.

Description of Work: This was a ceiling repair in bathroom; there was a hole in the ceiling due to some unknown moisture source. Bud made at least three visits to our home since this was a repair that had to be done in stages. He cleaned out the hole and patched it, primed it and sanded and painted it twice. It looks terrific. He also put up some Venetian blinds in three rooms upstairs. His work was careful, clean, and well, just great. I would definitely recommend this company and would use them again in a flash.

Description of Work: The handyman did a number of projects in our home and even gave us input on some other work that we might need with absolutely no sales pitch. He was really great!

Description of Work: Very professional, prompt service of putting together a garden bench, taking apart rotting wood barrels and carrying buckets of soilto wooded area. This was using the special price from Angie's List and I don't think that I would pay the full service fee.

Description of Work: I did not use them for this job - a replacement of my entire, rotted-out front door, but they were the low bidder and seemed to have a very good grasp on exactly what needed doing, and they were very prompt and professional in explaining it. I chose the other contractor for reasons not having to do with anything Handyman Matters did, and I will definitely keep them in mind for future work.

Description of Work: Poor Communication. Inconsiderate of Customer's time/ $. --------I spoke w Mr Bob Samson at Handyman matters of greater Boston & agreed on a work date on 4/9 8am. He did an onsite assessment & emailed me a quote of $800 in writing ( not including any materials). The jobs were: painting front door/ front door area/ all bathroom walls & ceiling with some minor sanding/ plastering/ hang a large pic & a mirror/ fix 2 window & change 4 locks. I told Mr Samson that he seems very professional & more responsive than other handyman i've contacted; so I decided to go with him, despite the high price ($ 85/hr). I figured it was worth the $. I emailed back 2 other grade A handyman co fro AngieList & cancel my free assessment appt with them. Mr Samson told me that we are "all set" for 4/9; his employee, Bruce would show up at 8am & I don't need to confirm any further. I told him I'm taking an UnPaid day off on 4/9 to be home., because I don't feel comfortable with strangers in my home without me being there. Nonetheless, I called the Thurs before Mon 4/9 to double check/ confirm w Mr Samson, then he told me "he's been meaning to contact me.....there's an emergency in 1 of his worker & they cannot come on 4/9". He claimed he would call me by end of the day with an update re: re-scheduling....... ......2 days went by....no word from him or anyone from his co? I then called & he said again, "I'll get back to you by tomorrow, the latest"..... .....never heard back from him until almost 1 wk later with a new proposed date of 4/20?!!!! Re-scheduling does happen. The frustrating thing is that they did Not take initiative to notify me, knowing that I took an unpaid day off for it. Does his customer's time & $ Not matter to them at all? Any professional business know being considerate of his customer's time & $ is just good decent practice. Furthermore, I Lost the other 2 Grade A handyman co when I decided to go with Mr Samson's business & cancelled my free quote appt with these 2 co. When Mr Samaon left me high & dry, I tried to re-schedule with these 2 co, they both had their schedule filled & can no longer helped me for months. I ended up doing everything myself with my families & hired a Wonderful, Extremely Reliable/ Responsive locksmith fro AngieList to change my locks for me. I never replied to Mr Samson's much delayed phone call/ email about the re-scheduling to 4/20. I tried to reach out to him/ his co Twice when I needed his service. Unfortunately, I was simply given a bunch of "I'd get back to you by the next day the latest"..........,with a eventual reply of a week later. A week later reply is perfectly acceptable IF that's what you've told your customer. What's Not acceptable is to say 1 thing & do another. We All have jobs to do/ busy life schedule. No one's interested in being jerk'ed around with his/ her time, esp when you take an Unpaid day off from work. I understand that many people do Not stay home while their handyman works. But its certain reasonable/ understandable to do so for many. I'm Very Glad I Never allowed Mr Samson/ his co to work inside my home unattended. If I cannot trust the man with his word, how Can I trust him with my home? Say what you mean; & mean what you say. It's a Very Simple & basic request for any customer to have. It's Fine to Re-schedule; but you Need to be Proactive about notifying your customer & be Forth coming about when You can get back to them. Don't tell people it's tomorrow; when it's a week later. Without Trust/ accountability, why should I do business with you? It seems that Mr Samson's egar for me to Get back to him about the new 4/20 date, when he Now is Interested in my job. Perhaps my job's too Small for his big co & it's easy for him to jerk me/ my job/ my schedule around when he sees new bigger job that'd bring him more $. But please call & cancel on my job if you are not interested, don't be inconsiderate & leave your customers hanging, waiting on a "next day" reply that comes a week late. I'd say that Mr Samson did Thank me for my patience in his last email & he does have nice manner when we spoke. But the way the re-scheduling was dealt with........honestly unacceptable, for anyone who has a hectic life/ a job to attend to & can't afford to sit around to wait for this big co's reply. I understand this is a common mis-behavior of many contractor type business out there. But as consumers, I think we ought to voice our concerns honestly & try to encourage business to Raise their standards. This kind of poor communications would Never be tolerated in many professional arenas like banking, law, medicine & education. Why shouldn't there be similar standard in handyman type of business? We're supposed to be All professionals here, are we? I Lost $1000 worth of a day's paid & valuable opportunities to potentially work with either one of those two other Grade A handyman co, when I Falsely placed my trust onto Mr Samson's co.

We at Handyman Matters pride ourselves on our commitment to making and keeping customer appointments. Occasionally circumstances make it necessary to reschedule appointments. When this happens we strive to give the customer has much notice as possible and to work with them to make alternate arrangements. In this particular case, one of our Craftsmen had a family emergency which required him to travel out of state and the date of his return was uncertain. We contacted the customer three days in advance of our appointment and explained the circumstances, promising to be in touch to reschedule as soon as we had a firm handle on the return of our employee. Several days were required for this to happen, but as soon as the schedule was finalized we contacted the customer via phone and e-mail to set an alternate date. The customer did not return our messages despite numerous attempts.
