Description of Work: Our association with the Jack Conway Reality Westwood began in 2008, I was receiving e mail listings from Steve, who in April of 2009 became our (buyer’s) realtor. I informed him we didn’t know anything about buying a home and he was very patient, explaining things as we went. We found a house we were interested in, it was listed with Jack Conway Reality, in fact Steve’s brother in law Len was the agent showing the home. We put a bid in, it was accepted and Steve recommended Tiger Home Inspection to do the inspection (see Tiger Home Inspection for that part of the story and a warning). We choose to buy the home and went with the Jack Conway Finance, the Jack Conway Lawyer and the above mentioned home inspector. From the moment it was clear we wanted to buy this particular home, our (buyers) realtor seemed to stop being a mentor to us. We were clueless but happy as we became first time home owners. Within a week of passing papers we found that the home had structural damage. Our realtor made himself scarce but his brother in law (the sellers agent) was often dropping by to offer his concern and help, calling Tiger home inspection and even helping us hire a friend of his to do the repairs for us. That contactor said two interesting thing to us, 1st - He was taking this job “because he didn’t want Len sued” and 2nd - “how could the home inspector miss this, where there’s smoke there’s fire”, the damage was visible if the inspector had bothered to look. The $8000 tax stimulus is now meaningless ( it was one big reason we choose to buy) to us because the repairs cost us that and more. What was very painful for us to realize, is that at the very least someone didn’t do their job, at the very worst we were deliberately deceived. Here’s what I believe to be true; 1. It was a big mistake to use all Jack Conway Realtor connections. 2. The sellers knew about the massive water damage and deliberately covered it up. 3. There was not a full disclosure of the problems with the property by the sellers or the realtor. 4. A conflict of interest was at play here, on perhaps many levels. 5. Never used a realtor's financial people, our mortgage was transferred from the bank to a mortgage company before we had even paid the first payment and then transferred again after the second payment to Fannie May. 6. Never use the realtor’s lawyers. 7. Never use a home inspector that the realtor recommends, keep in mind “one hand washes the other”. 8. Finally - Buyer Beware!
