It looks great, it's solid and high quality. My neighbors have all complimented it. The two carpenters who were here every day for several weeks, as well as other team members who came less frequently, were all kind and pleasant.

We absolutely loved Peter Buzzelle and his carpenter Tom Dexter. We had previously had a terrible experience with another contractor who had ruined our front steps in October 2016. We fired the other person and were feeling very traumatized and thought we would not have front steps for another six months. But Peter and Tom came to our rescue and managed to build a perfect staircase just in time for Christmas. He was worth every penny because the work was done so smoothly and perfectly. All we asked for was for stairs to aesthetically match our front porch and for the stairs to be safe and meet building code. The other contractor had failed miserably and dealing with him was a constant source of stress for several weeks. Peter, on the other hand, exceeded all expectations and was a real pleasure to work with. He listened to all our concerns carefully and sent Tom, a wonderful carpenter, to build the stairs. In about a week, they created a beautiful staircase which was better and safer than the original. We had to babysit the other contractor because we lost our trust in him. But Tom and Peter were the exact opposite. In the morning, Tom or Peter would update us and make very sensible suggestions to improve the staircase. We would go to work every day without any worries and come home to see real progress. Their communication was excellent--very friendly and very professional. Now I proudly think the front of our home is one of the loveliest on our street. We constantly get compliments from neighbors and visitors about the stairs. Thanks, Peter and Tom, we never want to hire anyone but you and will gladly sing your praises!

It went pretty OK. I spent about $2000. Their quality of work was really good but they took longer than they said they would and their charges are extremely high.

They completed the job on time, at the estimated price, were exactly on time, cleaned up after them selves and the stairs look great. I was very afraid we'd have to rebuild the entire bannister, which supports the entire staircase and landing.
Description of Work: I love these guys. Peter came out to give the initial estimate, and had someone in his company come out to do the work. They saved the antique custom bannister in my father's 100+ year old house and replaced missing spindles. I didn't have the money to have exact matches remade, they skillfully removed and rearranged existing spindles so you'd have to look very hard to see where they are different.

Peter and Dave did a fantastic job. They are very professional, detailed oriented and meticulous. They had a good sense of esthetics and made positive suggestions as to various options for the rebuild; we totally trusted their judgement with regard to the project. They were very good about keeping us informed throughout the entire project, answering emails, etc... What a welcome relief from other contractors we've dealt with. They were comfortable and competent working with an old house and adjusting to the unexpected. We were extremely pleased with the outcome of the project and would definitely recommend this company; we would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: We live in a 120 year old victorian which requires constant maintenance. Any work done on the house usually ends up being more complicated than anticipated due to the age of the house. Also we've tried to maintain the integrity and quality of the historic house. This project involved: 1) Work on my side porch: Complete replacement of the railings using a mahogany railing system with cedar spindles 2) Work on my front porch: Complete replacement of the decking surface (new joists in PT wood, decking surface in mahogany), complete rebuild of my 5 front stairs (PT stringers, treads in mahogany, risers in PVC, mahogany railing system, cedar spindles), repair of brick path to integrate into the new stairs, complete replacement of the lattice trim on the porch (in PVC), and replacement of two rotted wooden support columns.

All went well. I called Peter on a Tuesday morning, he returned my call that afternoon, we scheduled a visit to look at the work on Thursday and he e-mailed me a quote on Monday (less than a week from my initial call). Our schedules were both busy, so it took us about a month to schedule a day for the work. The carpenter, David, who did the work arrived about a 1/2 hour late, but he called to let me know and it wasn't a problem for me. David was great -- very friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. He talked with me at length about the options and issues on several aspects of the job and suggested a great solution to a light switch issue to make the switch blend in with the trim well. The work was completed in one day and it looks great. Peter was able to find some molding to match a nearby window and door. Clean-up was good. Peter stopped by the house during the job to check on the job, but he did not return after it was completed to inspect the final work, which surprised me. Other than scoping the job and a quick hello during the work, I didn't work much with Peter and I interacted more with David, but it was a small job and didn't require much interaction with the owner. Price came in less than a competitor, so we went with it, but it still seemed a bit high.
Description of Work: 2 small jobs completed that day: 1) Repairs to my interior stairs: Replaced one split riser board and one damaged section of the side skirt board. Had to carefully remove tread without cracking it in order to gain access to riser. 2) Replaced ugly rough trim around a laundry closet. Installed new trim to match existing detailed trim around a nearby door & window.

I contacted Peter after checking out references even though his price was reported to be a bit high..You pay for quality. He showed up to price the job as scheduled. All contact was then by e-mail. After finally settling on the installation date his subcontactor showed up a bit early. I was actually out for a walk and hadn't expected him for 45 minutes. He measured the exact footage needed and phoned Peter. Peter showed up a bit later with supplies and then left indicating his sub was a better carpenter. Both are extremely pleasant and very professional. The work was done exactly as scheduled. He even cleaned as he moved along leaving no dust or debris at all behind. After my last experience it was a pleasure to work with a real professional. I would highly recommend his services.

A+ for responsiveness, staying in touch, getting the job done once it got underway. Upbeat attitude. Completely professional. His price was the highest of the estimates we solicited, but we'reglad we trusted our instinct to pay a bit more to get the best results and the best experience. Very highly recommended. Hire this guy!

Neighbors frozen downspout fell onto our building and broke a window. Peter gave us a quote. We gave him a deposit and he measured the window and ordered it from the manufacturer. Once it arrived, he replaced the broken exterior window and trim in a day. He then asked for the rest of the payment if we were satisfied.

Peter was very busy, but he made a commitment to fit us in for this small job, and kept each appointment and agreement he made with us. He was realistic about what he could and couldn't do, and how reliable the repair would be. What he returned to us was a working door that looked perfect. Not quite sure how he did it, but almost a year later, the door still works perfectly. It was an expensive fix, but the doors add so much to the look of our kitchen that it was definitely worth it. Plus it feels good to give honest work to a skilled craftsman, as opposed to buying replacement junk from some factory overseas that might very well exploit their workers and waste precious resources.
Description of Work: Our kitchen is graced with two set of louvered doors, one covering the pantry entrance, one a laundry/hardware closet. The doors are made of oak, very unusual for louvered doors (and not replaceable - I tried.) Louvered doors take a great deal of stress at the pivot point, and oak is heavy wood. As a result, one panel had completely come apart, with individual slats slipped from their grooves, and a major crack and split around the pivot point. The door was completely inoperable, and not replaceable.

Peter gave us a quotation for the entire job and asked for a deposit up front. He carried out the work in a timely manner and as agreed upon. The end result looks quite good. He came a second time to sand down the door to the access panel, which had been binding. We were pleased with his work and contracted with him for a second job inside our home. However, because this was done very poorly, we decided not to hire him in the future.
Description of Work: Peter did carpentry work in our garage. He framed the 16’ motorized door, installed trim around 3 doors, 2 windows, and a ceiling bike rack. He also built a 42’ x 20’ access door to an electrical panel with trim around it and straightened a sagging steel door.

When Peter completed the work, the doors were not closing properly, so we asked him to come a second time to readjust the hinges. He tried again and now the doors are in worse shape. They cannot be closed by gently pulling them shut, as was the case before he worked on the hinges. Some of the doors must be pulled so the latch holds them shut. There is a different gap between the bottom and the top of the doors and their jams. A snapping sound is heard from of the hinges when one of the doors is opened. Tape was placed over the door latches and when trying to close them, 6 of the 10 doors popped open between 1/2 – 4 inches. After spending 2 hours trying to readjust the hinges, Peter said he did not know what else to do. He asked if he should continue working at his hourly rate, which was declined. He charged us $75 for 1-hour work though he worked for 2. Peter has done carpentry trim work for us on a previous occasion, which looks good. Even though installing and aligning door hinges is basic for a qualified carpenter, we would not recommend him for this type of work. He does not seem to have patience for detail work but only strives to finish and depart.
Description of Work: We asked Peter to replace old brass hinges on 5 doors (2 hinges on each door) and make minor adjustments on 5 other doors, which already had the newer style hinges. He also did some minor repair work estimated to have taken 1/2 hour. His rate was $75/hour.

All of the work done was first rate. Peter does a great job explaining what he can do and giving options. The schedule for repairing the front door was overly aggressive, so it took longer than originally promised
Description of Work: Peter did 3 jobs for us: stripping, repainting and carpentry on our front door and entrance. He also hung a new wooden storm door. His second project was replacing one of the columns on our front porch that had rotted. The third project was building an enclosure around a wine refrigerator in our butler's pantry.

Peter did a great job. He was thorough and professional from start to finish. He left the site clean each day. He maintains good communication, comes when he promises, calls if he is going to be later than scheduled. Too, he is a person of fine character - completely trustworthy. I could not recommend Peter more highly.

After tearing down and replacing all of the siding on our house ourselves and building an interior wood burning fireplace, my husband and I were ready to pay someone to replace the porch we had to tear down. Peter came over to give us an estimate and had the estimate ready for us the next day. While we did go over budget, the overage was within reason and we are thrilled with our new porch. Throughout the entire project, Peter and his partner Tom were extremely easy to work with, willing to work with us on "the vision", did excellent work, and were great communicators. I was very nervous about working with a contractor after doing so much DIY work ourselves but working with Peter was great and we can't wait to have him back to do more work!
Description of Work: Peter built and enclosed porch (an addition without the heat) using an existing foundation. He and his partner did the framing, roof, floor, insulation, interior walls, tile, windows, skylights, doors, and stairs.
