Response from Schmidt Painting
We did not do any work for this client. I couldn't find the coupon she bought because it was from more than 6 months before which made it invalid even though I agreed to do the work outlined in the coupon outside of the set time frame the client seemed to be very hostile from this point on. I gave her a estimate for the whole house because frankly the paint job was failing in a very bad way and 10 hours of painting would have never helped this house and it would be a complete waste of money. I can understand that when your hoping to get your house touched up for $400 how a quote to do the whole thing would be to much to bare. This house had alot of rotting wood and shingle replacement that had to be done. We would have did all the trim repairs in AZEK which is very expensive per piece it's between $35 to $65 dollars and there was a lot of repairs not just 20 but whole lot more. My guess is that the other painting company did not have the wood replacement in their estimate so naturally their estimate would be much lower than mine. Also we would be sanding whole entire walls to bare wood and using a $70 primer called Mad Dog Primer which stops the shingles from peeling. The estimate I wrote up for this client was a long term solution as we do not specialize in quick temporary fixes. All paint jobs look great when you finish them the key to a great paint job is if it looks good 6 years later. Quality is a factor of High Quality Prep + High Quality Primer + High Quality Repairs + High Quality Paint + High Quality Painters if any of those parts are skimmed on, the end result will be less years the paint job will last. A paint job that last 10 years and cost 50 percent more than one that last 3 years is a bargain value. Not to mention who wants a painter at their house every 3 years? Say the person that got the 10 year paint job payed $10,000. Their cost per year of keeping their home painted is $1000. The person that payed $5000 for a paint job that lasted 3 years payed $1666 per year to keep their home painted. The person that thought they saved money in the long run payed 66% more to maintain their home. The old saying is cheap paint ain't good and good paint ain't cheap. Must jobs don't require this amount of intensive labor and products to correct the problems in the paint job and on those jobs our company is very competitive. But on labor intensive jobs where there is major paint failure due to water we have made the correct business decision to only take the jobs when we are able in our price quote to correct the underlining problems with a comprehensive approach that combines the best prep, primers, paints, stains and repairs. We have a reputation of doing high quality work. We can not and will not win every quote the only thing we can do as a company is produce the best product humanly possible every time. If you read our reviews almost all the bad reviews we have are from clients we never did work for. As far as me wanting her to sign right away that is false. The client was in a hurry to get the job done before a certain time frame. I told her that we only had one more week that would fit her time frame but that it would go fast, which was true it was booked the next day. This was before July 4th and it was a mad house down here on Cape Cod. I told her if she wanted it done before July 4th she would need to let me know ASAP. That's not something I say often because I am the last person that you'd consider a high pressure sells man. The truth is we very popular with people that want high quality work done and we are not willing to sacrifice our quality for any one or any thing. Also to the client "I wish you all the best with the paint job you had done. Hopefully it will last 7 to 10 years but if it doesn't and your painting company won't return your calls to fix their work. Please know that you can call us and we will still come out give you a comprehensive bid to fix the problems to where they are permanently fixed. We have clients hire other painters all the time and call us to fix the problems the other painting company left. Most of those clients tell us they wish they would have just spent the extra money with us the first time to have it done right.
