Contract Work performed: Pre-cleaning (bleach/water) shingles, clapboards, trim, gutters, downspouts.Waited 3 days for outside of house to dry. Also, if there is rainy weather that occurs during the paint process, the crew waits 2-3 days to dry.Sanded (with power palm sander) shingles, clapboards, trim....prior to applying "Mad Dog" primer. Mad Dog is $80/gal. and Derrick only uses the product on the most weathered, worn area's. Mad Dog is an awesome product. Seals and provides a sticky surface for the paint or stain to adhere to. Google "Mad Dog" primer.....! Derricks crew had damaged a deck slider and gazebo screen. They repaired and installed new screen. End result, outstanding. Overall, Schimdt Painting is one of the Cape's best, if not the best (and I have experience with 3 other Cape painting contractors). Timely, efficient, highly productive paint crew, high-tech quoting system, excellent website. Wife and I are extremely pleased. We highly recommend. Feel free to include me as one of your references, for potential Schmidt Painting clients.
Description of Work: I selected Derrick Schmidt based on Angies List. Schmidt Painting was 1 of 3 painting contractors that I solicited quotes. Derrick was far and away the least expensive, yet the most attentive, knowledgable, professional contractor. Derrick provided references, whom I called. Reference after reference shared positive feedback. Our home is a custom built 2-story Cape, with an attached oversize garage, dormers, farmers porch, lighted cupola on top of garage, detailed moldings, etc., etc. The house was completed in 2003. The shingles received a bleaching stain, the clapboards, trim painted. The house was painted a 2nd time 2007. The house was not prepped well, hand brushed (not sprayed). The house started peeling 3 years later. The painter will remain unnamed, plus he is no longer painting. Hmmmm...I wonder why. He was a referral and cheap. My mistake, I learned from the experience. I work from my home office, so I had the opportunity to closely observe the work and work ethic of painting crew. Cleaning the outside of house, prepping the shingles, clapboards, trim...........the crew worked with a purpose and objective, to deliver a quality job. At the end of each work day, the crew cleaned the work area. I will mention, early on I had to remind the crew to work carefully around mature shrubs, bushes, tree's near the house. They acknowledged, with no further issue's. I have owned 9 properties, build 4 homes, made plenty of mistakes, learned a lot. Based on my experiences, Schmidt Painting delivered. There was a punch list. The crew, including Derrick addressed everything, in a professional manner. I did add paint work. Painting the shutters and a 12'x12' screened in Gazebo (9 years old, pressure treated). The Gazebo required patience and attention to detail, due to the turned millwork. Additionally, Derrick crew replaced screens that were in need. Again, a great job. This additional work equaled $1,300. Considering the time expended on the Gazebo....well worth the extra $. Overall, the project was on schedule (even with rainy periods), on budget. Extremely pleased, and highly recommend. I gladly offer myself as a reference for potential Schmidt Painting clients.
