Schmidt Painting

The estimate was done ~6 weeks before. It included "sand the deck, apply mad dog primer to the decking then top coat with Super Deck Dock and also paint the columns on the deck". The front porch/deck quote was $1000 and the smaller back side deck was $400. During the initial visit, I asked if the entire deck would be sanded prior to priming and staining. I was told that this would be the case. On the day of the job, the crew showed up at noon and took a lunch break. They did not announce their arrival but just walked around the yard. I went out to confirm the scope of the job. English was not their first language but they indicated that they had been told that only the decks would be done but did not know about the painting of the columns or/railing (back deck). I emailed Derrick who responded quickly and said that he would clarify. Then, someone came by who communicated with the crew. She also did not check in with me. However, I went outside again and engaged her and expressed my understanding that the entire deck would be sanded and primed prior to staining. She disagreed and stated that only some of the deck (a relatively small portion; ~20% -30%) needed to be sanded (by hand) and only this portion would be primed. This was not what Derrick and I had discussed (although we did agree that the entire deck did not need to be sanded to raw wood) nor did it agree with the written quote. Consequently, I cancelled the job. If the original intent/scope of work was to sand and prime only certain areas, this should have been clearly stated. This "miscommunication" is quite surprising for someone who has gotten so many outstanding ratings. I did not find the price to be consistent with this limited scope of work.

I have to say, I had to nudge Derrick to get the quote, and to get the job started. After the power wash I didn't hear anything so I sent an e-mail asking when the job would start.....I got a call the next morning about 8:20 (after an e-mail that I hadn't read yet) and it was Derrick asking if he could do the job that day! And he would be there in 30 minutes! I agreed as I wanted the job done but would have appreciated a contact and schedule for the job. But otherwise, this was a good experience. Before he started, we walked around the house confirming what he was to do. All went smoothly and, as I said, my house looks beautiful. I also found he can help me with my awful yellow kitchen until I can afford to gut it. I had been told you couldn't paint laminate, but Derrick assured me something could be done. So I will probably use him again this winter to finally get the yellow gone and I can start saving to get a new kitchen in the next few years.

Superb two-man crew worked very hard and efficiently to get the work done in one day. Excellent results.

they painted all rooms, and some exterior deck areas. the work is outstanding. their care and professionalism, attention to detail, care of our home (we just redid the floors and the didn't leave a mark anywhere). Derrick is punctual, helpful, and very responsive. i will use them again, and recommend them very highly.

When Derrick and crew arrived for the initial job, I added several other items onto their list?.. As I was emptying the room of its contents and taking pictures off of the wall, etc?. everything began to look worse! The initial contract was for painting the walls?. Derrick and his crew took on the added items and worked extremely hard to get the job done!! The work is beautiful?. Everything was painted to perfection! I am a person who believes that "the devils in the details?." The crew did not miss one detail on painting this bedroom?. They took down hooks inside the closet, sanded and painted a baseboard heater so that it looks new?.. They did a terrific job! We will definitely be using Schmidt Painting again in the near future!

They were on time, professional, worked the whole time they were there, and did an overall wonderful job.

It was okay. They contacted me within 24 hours. I was 90 percent happy. There was a couple of areas that they didn't clean up sanding wise. They had to take off a slide lock and didn't put it back on. Would have liked them letting me know of this.

Very efficient. Gave great color recommendations that we are thrilled with. Painters were flawless. With any big project and a large crew (they were done in 2 days) you can expect a certain amount of disarray but we felt it was minimal and reasonable. Their focus was on painting after all and we could not be happier with the outcome.

They were absolutely fabulous. They had the whole thing done in a day. I never thought they would do that, and the quality was excellent. There was not a drip of paint anywhere. They're coming back in a few weeks to do another room. They were just marvelous.

exterior trim repair & relacement was not quality or consistent details for the repair. Had to call back to rework the repairs and repaint. Contractor did return and return and remedy. There was no reason to do this simple job twice. A customer with less knowledge mat have accepted the less than standard performance.

They really did a good job. The work quality was excellent, they were very efficient, and cleaned up after themselves. The rate was very good as it was a "daily deal" from Angie's list but I would definitely use this company again.

This is my fourth time using Schmidt Painting over the last 6 years for projects in our last two homes. Derrick and his team are great painters, extremely efficient, and responsive. I have recommended Derrick by word-of-mouth to several friends and they have been extremely happy with his work and pricing.

Schmidt Painting responded quickly to our request. Salvador and his partner arrived on time, tackled a number of interior jobs, mostly furniture painting, with professional care and efficiency and respected our property. He and his partner finished all the tasks within the allotted time and cleaned up well afterwards. The quality was outstanding and the price was right.

We purchased an Angie's special deal for $249 for 8 hours for one master painter or 4 hours for 2. We had paint, but the base paint that we had didn't dry as fast as the one that they had - so, we purchased a gallon that would work better. The job took two additional hours and ended up costing $489.00. The two painters who worked on this were excellent - they did great work, went to extra lengths to keep the paint smell out of the house and cleaned up after the job. They were very friendly and helpful. They didn't paint the radiator covers, but we should have discussed that at the beginning of the job and would do that next time. Although I ended up painting the covers, that took about 15 minutes. We are really happy that we took this deal - it was more than we wanted to spend, but it was a big job that needed to be done and the outcome is really lovely. The room is bright and clean looking. Overall, this job went very well.

Arrived promptly . Moved and covered furniture and hardwood floors with tarps. The painting crew removed lighting fixtures and proceeded to paint . We left the condo while the painting crew worked. We were contacted when the work was completed and returned. We inspected the work and provided the final payment. Everything was clean, well painted and the furniture was returned to its original location. Great job!

All I want to say is fantastic Job well done.

Job went smoothly although it took a while to complete mainly due to bad weather and our delay due to replacing an outside door. They started May 31, 2014 and finished July 18, 2014. He and the team are professional and responsive to special requests - such as replacing split or broken wall shakes (same as shingles). They power washed, sanded shakes (they call it grinding), and primed with Mad Dog Primer, then top coated by spraying with stain. Everything was caulked. Azek trim was caulked (installed with nails counter sunk but never caulked) and painted using long lasting Sherwin Williams Duration paint. Bulkhead was painted using marine paint; also long lasting. 2 doors were painted and porch clapboard walls and ceiling painted using same process. I obtained several bids and Derek was reasonably priced. He and his team deserve the good ratings they receive on Angie's List.

Derrick Schmidt and his crew did a fabulous job on our house. Many of the walls had very high quality faux finishes, which didn't work with our décor. The painting job is excellent- Sarah Schmidt was the project manager, and she is a perfectionist, which I greatly appreciated. I was not there to oversee the job, so I had to rely on Derrick and Sarah for feedback as to how the colors looked. Derrick had given me some paint color suggestions- he has a very good eye. I added some extra painting things to the job- a few pieces of furniture, etc. Derrick is very professional, and his follow up is excellent. The paint job is terrific, and they did a great job with the clean up, as well. I interviewed 4 companies for the paint job. One company was much higher- the other 3, including Schmidt Painting, were about the same price. I chose Schmidt Painting because of the recommendations on Angie's List, and I was very happy I did. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

This was a tough rating for me. We ended up ok with the final product but we had some headaches with this project. Derrick came out quickly and quoted us a price which was a bot higher than some other prices we had received and much higher than one. We chose him because of his extremely high rating on Angie's List and we figured we were getting what we paid for. We also went with him because he told us he has a master carpenter on his crew and we knew we had a lot of carpentry work that was needed. They began the work when we were away which may have been a mistake. The initial paint job was not exactly the same color we had, there were tons of chipping and bubbling paint and the carpentry work was very poor, lots of cut corners and paint right over rotted wood, which was upsetting since we were paying extra to have the rotted wood replaced. The caulking job was also very poor with many areas not even done. The guys also left a mess. To his credit, and as was the case throughout, Derrick was very responsive. He spent over and hour and 1/2 in traffic on a Sunday to come out and meet with me twice to discuss my concerns. He had his guys come back but we still had a number of issues. Again, Derrick came out, met with us and was great. He came back again with a crew and fixed most of the issues we had but overall I gave them a lower rating because I feel like some of his guys rush and do not take their time to pay attention to detail. I was also disappointed that I had to keep looking things over and calling them back. We had numerous issues that I had to call Derrick about such as chipped paint, rotted wood painted over, things not cleaned up, wrong color etc. Each time he responded but overall this project took close to a month to complete because of the issues. In the end things were ok but they still reattached one gutter improperly, did not do a great job caulking on some of the windows and I still have new trim that was put on top of rotted trim on one window. I think Derrick is a quality guy but this was a big project, he has a big crew and some of his guys do not take pride in their work. He discounted the price a little bit to compensate for some of the issues and I would use them again because it is hard to find an owner of a company like Derrick that stands behind his work. In the end I must say that Schmidt painting is worth calling because Derrick Schmidt is a caring owner and he is willing to stand behind his work. He does not make excuses when things don't go great and makes efforts to address the issues. If I use them in the future I hope to be able to say that my ratings would match all the A's he has received from everyone else.
