Schmidt Painting

I have hired Derrick Schmidt and his crew four times, first for painting the exterior of my house, later for the interior (in two instalments), and most recently for reglazing. No doubt there are other good painters on Cape Cod but at this point I so trust Schmidt to do an excellent job that I have no motivation to shop around. He does what he has agreed to do, works continuously until the job is finished, and finally cleans up. I also have to add, from my experience, that he is knowledgeable about the underlying reasons for difficult paint problems (such as paint that cracks and peels for reasons that were not apparent to other contractors) and able to offer options for solution.

We were very pleased with the quick response to receive an estimate and within a couple of weeks to have the job started/ The crew arrived early every day, worked non stop through out the day, only breaking for lunch! They are extremely professional, work was exceptional and they cleaned up each day and you never would have known workers were in your home. It was incredible TEAM work! And the completed job is so beautiful. I love my newly painted rooms and will certainly be hiring them for future jobs. And I highly recommend them!!!!!

First job took several days. Very thorough prep, much better than I'd had with prior painters. My house has cedar shingle siding. I had had it power washed earlier in the season, which most painters think is enough. Schmidt's crew was all over the exterior sanding all remaining spots and blemishes. They also repaired a few molding boards which had gone bad. Once painting started, the masking was thorough. There was just about no overspray, and the cleanup was thorough. It's been four years, and the paint job looks almost new. The second job was an interior job of several large, high ceiling rooms. There's less to say here, because it was a smaller job, and interior prep, while thorough, doesn't need to be as extensive. One thing I particularly liked is that I was able to discuss the different paint options. On the exterior, I got an education in the different types of stains, and was able to make an intelligent selection. On the interior, it was much simpler--we decided matte was better than flat. One bump in the road on the interior was that we had a long hallway ceiling where some of the plaster was flaking. I was told the problem probably was due to the original builder not using primer. They said that they'd patch the few square feet that had come off, but if it came off all over the hallway, they'd have to get a plasterer to come (extra) and replaster. Fortunately, the flaky part wasn't extensive, the rest of that ceiling run held up, and the job was completed without further incident. The price below reflects both jobs. The first one was about $8,000, and was done in 2013. The second was approximately $4500.

I originally found Schmidt Painting on Angie's List and this was the 7th time I have used the company. Derrick is readily available to do quotes and his team does excellent and efficient work. Early this year, I had Schmidt paint our large front porch, sand and stain the back deck, and outdoor shower, and paint trim boards on the house. Unfortunately, the new type of stain used on the back deck did not absorb well into the wood. I sent Derrick pictures and he later came over and took a look. Derrick agreed that the stain did not take and the job must be redone free of charge. We agreed to wait until the fall. His team recently completed the re-stain of the deck. I also had the Schmidt team repaint some inside ceilings while they were here. Since this is a vacation home and I am not local very often, I remotely unlock the door and let the painters into the house whereby they go about the painting and leave the house spotless. I have been using Schmidt Painting since 2013 and I have always been satisfied with the quality of the job and the trustworthiness of the team. Additionally, if the job requires some carpentry work as it often does such as replacing rotted boards of spindles, the Schmidt team handles this aspect of the job. Given the recurring nature of painting a house near the ocean, I find the dependability, quality and reasonable price great reasons to continue using Schmidt Painting in the future.

Arrived on the date planned. Completed on schedule, including several additions to the work order. All phases of the work have held up during the course of a hard winter.

Quality work all the way. My husband is a retired Painting and Decorating Teacher who gave the team high fives. They were neat and well ordered working as a cohesive unit. The painters were neat and respectful. The owners, a husband and wife team were available for directions as well as doing actual work.

Great people, quality work. A little weak on clean-up.

Very well. He recommended I fix the gutters first, which I did. The house looks great. One of my relatives, who is in the construction business, admired the quality of the work. He may be a little more expensive than others, but they did such a good job scraping the peeling paint and painting that it was worth it.

Derrick's estimate was in the middle, but we were confident that he would do a great job, and we were very happy with our choice. Derrick's communication with us was excellent. The workmen were careful in our home, and cleaned up nicely afterwards. We were 100% satisfied with Schmidt Painting.

Derrick was very attentive to detail and closely managed every stage of the project. The crew worked diligently towards exceptional workmanship. Derrick was very accommodating with scheduling delays incurred during kitchen remodeling. I would highly recommend his services.

Derrick Schmidt was personable, on time, very well organized and provided excellent service. Without any prompting from me, his employees were careful and alert enough to determine that 1 coat did not provide adequate coverage. They showed this to me and cheerfully applied a second coat to make the coverage complete. Derrick supported their assessment and was primarily concerned that the outcome be a high quality job.

They did an incredible job. Each time the job was finished in one day! Two coats of paint on everything. And they filled in any holes and did some patch work. They were neat and thorough! Salvatore (the head painter) is the best!!!

Derrick and his crew were as professional as they come. He offered an attractive time & materials price for off-season work and as the work progressed, I was so pleased I added more to the initial project scope. The crew was hard-working, efficient with their time, neat and thorough. The results were sensational. Derrick also made some color suggestions which we still love over a year later. I recommend them highly and would definitely use again!

We chose Derrick Schmidt over two other contractors because he was the only one who knew why the paint on the shakes was peeling and how to remediate the problem. He and his nine member crew power washed the house, removing the loose and flaking paint. After allowing the shakes to dry for several days, they returned to sand the shakes down to bare wood. All the trim was sanded and the damaged areas were repaired or replaced. Then the house was primed and painted. It took 4 business days to complete the job. The work is impeccable and the house looks terrific. His crew is respectful and courteous, and they clean up after each day. It's now one year later and Derrick Schmidt's work still looks new. We highly recommend Derrick's company. You will be pleased with his work.

Outstanding -- excellent work , on time

Could not have expected more. Derrick was called upon to correct and replace previously inferior work. His crew was efficient, courteous and industrious, sometimes working until almost dark to complete the job. Derrick was not only responsive but was more than fair in his costs. I will certainly call on him again for any future painting needs.

Schmidt is the best house painter we have encountered in over 50 years of home ownership in a number of locations. He is precise and complete, clean and responsible, and highly skilled. His crew photographs an interior before painting so that the furniture is replaced in its original location. He waits for the exterior to dry after power washing -- something that others are too impatient to do, though it is necessary. His prices are competitive. We recommend him highly with no reservations.

Derrick and his team do great work. They are extremely detail oriented and careful in their work. I would definitely use Schmidt Painting again.

Beautiful job, especially given the difficulty of removing wallpaper that was originally applied without primer. Perfect job of skim coating and sanding, and final paint application came out great. Furniture and floors well covered and protected. Could have paid a bit more attention to final cleanup of sanding dust along baseboards, but that's a small quibble given that the painter stayed late to finish up.

The painting went quite well. They needed to do some taping and that still shows a bit of a ridge, but they were courteous and professional and efficient. When I have a painting need again, I will be sure to contact this business.
