I am serving as general contractor for construction of my new home. I contacted Tom Otenti of Stow Drywall based on positive reviews here on Angie's List. His quote was about 5% lower than another bid that I received, which, combined with Tom's obvious dedication to customer service and responsiveness through the bid process, made it easy to select him for the job. The finished area of the house is about 2,200 sq. ft. with three cathedral spaces and two stairwells. The house is superinsulated, with 12" thich walls, and the job included plaster returns for 14 windows, some quite large. These returns required some fussy detail work -- wjth outside corners and plastered surfaces back to the window frames. In addition, there was a 40' x 20' open-concept area (living/dining/kitchen) that had 30 recessed lights and firecode blueboard hung on metal channel and sound isolation clips, with fire caulking and acoustic caulking applied by me during the blueboard hanging. This was to assure separation, for both fire and sound, for a future accessory apartment within the house. All ceilings, including the cathedrals, were smooth plaster (not textured). So there were some non-typical requirements for this job, and Tom worked with me to find the best way forward and offered good advice along the way. His chosen subcontractor for board hanging was excellent. And Tom's team for the plastering was top notch. Tom has very high standards and I feel that I got a truly excellent job. Together we did a final QC check of the plaster, shining a high-powered LED across the surface to find and correct any minor imperfections. After I paid and thanked Tom, he came back once more, on his own accord, to do a bit of cleanup in an area that bothered him (but not me). Throughout the process, Tom and I stayed in touch via telephone and text messaging. Tom is an excellent project manager and skilled craftsman, and I feel fortunate to have his work be among the most-visible aspects of my new home.

Amazing job from start to finish. Great guy, easy contact and set-up. Very informative and truly invested in the job. He worked around any ceiling issues with ease and my ceilings look incredible. Easy going, professional and truly skilled at what he does. Will be hiring him again soon to do the same job in all the bedrooms and baths. Very highly recommended.

I left a voice mail with Tom and it was quickly returned. He worked around my work hours to set up a time to come take a look and arrived on time. He was very informative and knowledgeable on the work I needed done. I had gutted my living room and had hung new drywall. I wanted Tom to do the tape job. He informed me it would be cheaper and come out nicer to do a plaster coat on the walls. He quickly got me an estimate and started the job exactly when he said he would. Tom was very quick and completed my 12'x25' room in about 4 hours. The walls look excellent!! Glass smooth. No mess in the house. Very easy to communicate with during the process. Highly recommend. Operates how a contractor should and was happy to give him a check.

Tom was awesome! We would highly recommend him. When he received my phone message, he actually called me on his vacation to set up a time to check out our project. As he inspected the stairwell, he offered suggestions of things we could do ourselves if we so chose, but with such a large project and one of many in our house, we contracted Tom to do the job. By sheer luck, Tom was able to replaster our walls starting the next day. The job was completed within two days. We are so impressed with the quality of the work Tom and his assistant did.
Description of Work: Tom Otenti, the owner of Stow Drywall and Plasteringl replastered the walls in the stairwell of our 1918 house. The walls had been poorly textured at some point before we bought the house. Tom fixed various cracks in the plaster, smoothed out the walls, sheet rocked and plastered the ceiling on the first floor where a dropped ceiling had been put in at one time. Overall, there was a lot to do to make the walls in our stairwell presentable.

I did not use these guys because Tom, the owner told me I didn't need to spend the money to use his services. I called a few other plasters who were all to eager to do the job but Tom said otherwise.... We have a plastered ceiling in the porch area that was peeling pretty bad. Like I said, others, came out quickly and were very professional and priced out a new plaster job, Tom came out right away as well but instead of putting his interest ahead of mine he gave me the truth and saved me a lot of money. Tom said the plaster was actually painted at some point several years ago and it was likely a cheap paint. He suggested hiring a painter to scrape it down and repaint it. A very honest guy and that I would enthusiastically recommend.

They did both rooms in one day and when I came home the place was beautiful. I had none of the problem one so often has with contractors. All communication was answered swiftly and with the necessary information. The work was done within both the time parameters and money parameters that had been set. And it looked wonderful when finished. I would definately call this company to do more work anytime and recommend them without reservation.

Tom or (Tim?) came out and took a look at the damage. He verified the ceiling was in good shape, just needed some patching in a few places. He was honest and said we could do the job ourselves for under $50, but that he'd have to charge us his minimum. He even explained exactly what to buy, and how to do the project. We really appreciated the honesty and would totally use him in the future should the need arise, and with our house it surely will.

Tom did an excellent job on the plastering. He was very efficient, with the initial evaluation and estimate and the actual work all completed in a timely way. We are very pleased with his professionalism and the quality/price of the work he performed.
Description of Work: We were in need of timely repairs to the plaster in our kitchen following the removal of ceramic tiles in preparation for installation of new countertops and backsplash. Tom responded promptly -- was the first to call us back -- and he came by to look over the job the next day. His estimate for the work was very reasonable and he was very clear about what we needed to do by way of further preparation, which was very helpful. The walls needed to be perfectly flat because the backsplash being installed later was granite, and his workmanship was excellent. He arrived on time, covered everything to protect the non-work areas, did an excellent job and left the kitchen completely clean. The work was A-1 quality, as confirmed by a carpenter we had coming in next, and we were 100% satisifed with the project. We would definitely recommednd Tom and would use him again.

Thank you! The ceilings were sand finish. We still do these ceilings but not too often. Sand is the most difficult finish to match with a patch. I'm glad you were happy with the results. Tom

The owner of Stow Drywall, Tom, returned my call promptly and scheduled an appointment to assess the vandalism damage. He showed up on time, was very professional, and explained the challenges associated with horsehair plaster and the various types of repairs needed for my walls. The price Tom quoted was good (in fact, lower than anticipated). On the day work began, Tom and his employee arrived on time despite having had a sudden plumbing failure at his own house, which he left behind so that he could get to my house on time. All of my floors were covered with drop cloths before the work began. Then Tom patched isolated holes and blended the repairs seamlessly into surrounding wall. He demolished the walls that had to be replaced entirely, and promptly removed and hauled away the debris. He installed new sheetrock, applied new plaster, and left the wall surfaces smooth enough for immediate painting. And he did it without having to remove and replace baseboards and trim! I was quite pleased with the results and will definitely use Stow Drywall again in the future if I need wall repairs again. I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: My 1930's Dutch Colonial (rental) property was vandalized by a group who broke in to have a party while it was unoccupied. They punched, banged, and kicked holes in horsehair plaster walls. The damage was extensive: nearly every wall in the house had large cracks, dents, or holes either through the horsehair plaster, lathe, or straight through the wall into the adjacent room. The broken plaster and lathe had to be removed, holes reconstructed, and entire walls removed and replaced from scratch with sheetrock and plaster. I worried about finding a plasterer who would take on this difficult job and produce a high-quality result. Whereas some entire walls had to be replaced, I was concerned that it would be impossible to match the original woodwork style and finish, so was hoping for a plasterer who was could remove and replace the existing trim and baseboard without breaking it.

He was extremely courteous and attentive to all our concerns in regards to this construction project. The work was of exceptional high quality and completed in a timely manner. Our home was left clean and driveway swept and washed down. I would highly recommend without hesitation, the excellent workmanship of Stow Drywall, Hudson, MA. The workers with Tom Otenti were very pleasant in nature. I will be happy to tell our neighbors/friends of Tom Otenti at Stow Dry Wall and know he will gain further employment with such a good recommendation! Gerald Johnson Shrewsbury, MA 01545
Description of Work: Tom Otenti installed blue board and plastered 3 rooms, entry way and hallway at our home in Shrewsbury, MA. Tom also encountered a lack of strapping in dining room ceiling and immediately fixed by installing missing strapping so ceiling wouldn't sag. He butted up the plaster into the corners, around pull down attic stairs and around light fixture outlets. When the painters came in to paint the ceilings, they said that the job was great and they would like to use Stow Dry Wall on some of their jobs! We will give the recommendation to the painter for further business!

Tom is a great knowledgeable person to work with. He is also reachable via email that I personally appreciated. The work involved fixing ceiling drywall in the finished basement - there were some scehduling issues but got Tom's help to reschedule and stick to the overall plan. The guys arrived on time and proceeded to completion in about an hour - the patched area looks better than the old ceiling - seamless and level. Work was done well and on time and the pricing was reasonable. Will definitely use again.

I am someone who always chooses to do things myself because I like things done the right way and to a very high standard. This drywall project was beyond my capability so I had to outsource for the first time. Angie’s list was a great tool that put me in touch with Tom of Stow Drywall. Tom was extremely responsive through the estimation phase and was patient with all my newbie questions. When I selected Tom to do the work he told me the schedule with start and end times for each day he would be on the job. At the end of the job the project was completed on time, in budget, and exceeded my expectations in terms of quality. I would never hesitate to default to Tom for any future work or to recommend him.

We contacted Stow Drywall to repair a section of our living room ceiling that had sustained some damage from a water leak in the bathroom above.Tom was very quick to respond and set up a time to come over and have a look that week. He gave us a quote for the ceiling repair that was very reasonable. In addition to looking at the ceiling, he went upstairs to look at the source of the damage. We had thought it had come from bathtub overflow leaking through the floors, but he let us know that the real cause was a loose shower valve, and that we could easily fix the problem ourselves (which we did, saving us the hassle of calling another contractor in to re-tile the floor!). On the day we arranged for the work to be done, he arrived on time (a little early, actually) and completed the job in the amount of time he had told us the job would take. He did a great job - the plaster looks very similar to the ceiling surrounding the patch he replaced. Tom is a great guy to work with - he knows what he's talking about and overall is very personable and professional. We would definitely hire him again should the need arise.

The work performed by Tom and his Team was unsurpassed. The team arrived at the appointed time. Following introductions, and a brief overview of the steps Tom would take to perform the work, his team got started. While Tom and a helper covered the existing floors, other members of the team unloaded the truck and set up for the job. From the first application to the finish work, the team was respectful, neat and all task were completed in a neat and workman like manner. Once plastering was complete, the site was cleaned - with no left over plaster or trash left at our home. The whole job was complete in less than a day - and a most positive experience. I will be working with Tom and his team again soon!
