Over the past year and a half, I had contacted 5 contractors from Angie's list to look at my basement project. They had various levels of expertise but some I liked and would have hired. They all said they would get an estimate to me within several weeks. Only 2 did. The rest clearly had decided they did not want the messy job renovating an old basement but did not call me to let me know. One estimate was $22000, the last was $45000. That number seemed excessive to me, and I had advice from a family member who poured concrete and said it should not cost that much. I then looked up Concrete on Google and found Details Concrete run by Pedro Carrias. I called them and he and his wife, his business manager, came out promptly. They were friendly and responsive, and horrified by the price of $45000. They explained that Pedro is not a contractor but they would help me find the other services I needed. Pedro seemed very knowledgeable about the work. I got a couple of references and asked them to do the job. Pedro brought out his brother and son to work with him. I have never seen workman work as hard, persistently or effectively. They removed the cement and it to a dump, dug the ditch for the drain and sump pump (he brought in a man to do the sump pump), removed the dirt and then added the gravel and helped pour the cement. Pedro's wife help me purchase the tint for the cement and they picked it up for me. They cleaned the old flaking paint off the walls and sanded when necessary to prepare it for painting. They helped me locate a painter and a carpenter for other parts of the renovation project and the people they recommended also worked very hard and well. At the end, they moved the appropriate items back into the basement, which now also has newly build cabinets and everything freshly painted. It looks quite lovely. I would definitely hire them again.
