Chaves Heating & Air Conditioning

I have been using Chaves for over 40 years.

We had our old furnace replaced with a high efficiency unit. Chaves Heating and Air Conditioning provided extremely good service at a good price. We dealt mainly with Joe Chaves himself. He responded promptly and politely. He just brought by our rebate form already filled out and ready to go to MassSave. I recommend them highly.

It took three visits before they solved the problem. So they did fix it. It was a new house to us and we were getting high bills because the air conditioning was short cycling so we asked them to help out because their name was on the air conditioning.

Chaves Heating was recommended by a friend of mine and I called them to install a split AC in Living room. a person from Chaves came at the appointed time, did an estimate and provided me with some options for the installation. He also worked with me to find the right place for the split AC inside the house. He then sent me a proposal by email with all the details. He also answered my questions via email promptly.Once I agreed to the proposal, we setup a date and the AC was installed on that date without any issues. I would recommend Chaves to my friends for Heating and Cooling related projects.

We have been customers of Chaves for many years. We are on their easy-pay maintenance program for our gas furnace and central A/C. Our old house has a couple of rooms that never warm up in the winter. We asked Joe Chaves to come over, he looked at our situation thoroughly and recommended we install a couple of mini-split heat pumps. He quoted a single outside unit and two inside units. We waited several months, then decided to pull the trigger. He came back out, reviewed everything and put things in motion. That afternoon he called us up and explained how, with rebates and incentives, it actually would cost less to get two smaller outside units instead of a single larger one. More efficient, too. They had the units in stock and were out the next day installing. The installers were courteous, fast, neat and clean. All Chaves workers put on cloth booties over their street shoes every time they enter the house. We had to wait a couple of days for the electricians to come (they are a different local company), and they also were very quick about their work and did a very neat, professional job. As soon as the electricians were done, Joe came back out to the house to show us how to operate the units. And then to the most important part: rebates. We got two rebates totaling $2250 (over 25% of the total cost) from Mass Save and a five-year interest-free loan for the balance. Joe had all the paperwork we needed to do this, we only had to enter our name, address, etc, address a couple of envelopes and stick on stamps to mail them. He made it extremely easy. Now the two rooms which we used to abandon each winter are cozy and warm. We highly recommend Chaves and will use their services for as long as we live here.

Went great from start to finish. Joe came out to provide in home consulting and then emailed detailed options. I waited for the existing furnace to die a slow death, which it dead during a cold February week. I called Joe and his crew came out the next day and did a great job replacing the furnace. Everything went smoothly and they dealt with town inspection and state energy rebates paperwork too. Highly professional and highly recommended.

Overall good experience with Chaves - I called them at 12:30 and they showed up 2 hours later. Given the fast response and resolution I think the cost was worth it in the middle of winter.

Their rep (Joe) immediately told me they were not a good fit for the job as the system we needed to replace was steam and gas. They did not try and pretend they were the best for this type of system and referred me to a competitor who has experience and knowledge in this area. Honest and full of integrity. I was very impressed.

These guys are good. I met with Andre who came out to the house to assess my options for a new furnace. He gave me no-BS answers about the options, including costs and tradeoffs on the ultra-high efficiency models. I settled on a high efficiency model which they then installed. About a year later, I got this annoying buzzing sound when the furnace came on. Could not locate it, but it was clearly related to the furnace. They came right out and fixed it by strapping some pipes, no charge. The install was very clean and well engineered.Built to be serviced with cutoffs above and below all valves and circulators. Their price was a soup-to-nuts price, with no add ons or other charges, including relining my chimney. When I saw there quote and asked the other bidders, they told me that would cost extra, and yes, it was needed. Despite this, Chaves was right in there with the other bids I got. Great value, great service, I wish more companies were this easy to do business with.

The work was not performed, but the estimator arrived promptly as agreed, took his time to analyze the project in detail and came up with a sound proposal. Later when I contacted the company with follow-up questions, I received prompt and courteous answers.

Fantastic. I dealt with A rated dealers and found (Joe) Chaves the most technically and rebate program knowledgeable. He never gave up with all my questions and came to the house a number of times. Installation was neat, clean, and orderly. He personally followed up to make sure everything was installed properly and ran through Mitsubishi's controller to explain all its features and the daily programming. I don't have an attic, so the split sytem was my only feasible option and it should also provide economical heat at the same time! I highly recommend them.

Andre was outstanding and patient during my decision making process. First I got quotes from several different plumbers and Chavez was the best price. We went ahead and made a plan to install multi-head units, but then Andre let me know there is was a new MassCEC program with excellent rebates on the single head units so we went with that which saved a couple of thousand dollars. Andre went above and beyond in other ways as well and I would not hesitate to use Chavez again should I ever need major plumbing work.

Prompt, professional service

We couldn't be happier w/Chaves. Joe came to our home, offered three proposals at different price points and was more knowledgable than the other HVAC companies we'd sought proposals from. A few tried to sell us on the more expensive high velocity systems, and Joe laid out the benefits and drawbacks of high velocity vs. traditional. Ultimately we went with traditional in a home that had no pre-existing ductwork or a/c. The Chaves installers were prompt, worked quickly and for a messy job cutting holes in ceilings, they cleaned up after themselves nicely. The guys were professional, took the time to walk us through any questions we had and were good problem solvers. They were artful in their vent placements to make them almost unnoticeable and planned ductwork to be minimally invasive. When issues came up, and on a project this large they always will, Chaves took ownership and responded immediately to address them. We have one very large room that months after installation, we felt needed an additional vent, and Joe came back to see for himself and offered to add one to correct the problem. This is what's most important to us - their focus on customer satisfaction and making sure the job is done right. Now that we've lived with the system for a while, we love it and couldn't be happier. The air quality in our home is the highest it's ever been, and even though several family members have severe seasonal allergies, this year's heavy pollen and mold didn't even register with this system running. Going with Chaves was one of the best decisions we've made for our home.

No service was performed. I had Jose out for an estimate. He arrived on time, and performed a thorough review of what needed to be done. He mentioned that he would need to have one of installers advise on a specific item before he could provide an estimate. A few days later he had left a message that his installer would not need to come out, but that he would need to return to evaluate sizing for the condenser. I returned the message and gave him times to come, but he never returned nor contacted me again. This was odd as Chaves came recommended, not only here on Angieslist, but also by a competitor who suggested that I should contact them, as they perform quality work. Based on the reviews, I am assuming that this was some type of miscommunication or oversight. I was quite surprised to not receive an estimate or any follow on contact. At the time of this review 5/5/2015, I am still soliciting bids from HVAC contractors to perform the work.

We are very happy with the service from Chaves Heating and Air Conditioning. The last Heating repair company we used was "encouraging" us to replace the Heating unit as they stated it was on it's way out. I was skeptical so when the heater would not cycle on during the bitter cold spell, I used Angie's list to find Chaves Heating and Air conditioning. We places a request for assistance online via their website, received a call less then an hour later and they arrived that afternoon promptly on time. The technition was very professional and had the issue identified and fixed with 45 minutes at a reasonable rate with no attempt at all of selling additional unneeded services. This is a company with integrity and we will be calling them in the future.

They are the AC people that people should use. They are great. They were honest, prompt, and reputable. I would use them again. They were fair and they do quality work.

The insulation crew, Chris and J, did a good job on the home performance improvement. They added a cap for the attic entrance and insulated our big family room's floor.

Excellent experience overall. They guided us through the MassSave process that allowed us to get an interest free loan for the furnace and hot water heater and the conversion to gas heat. Work was done in 2 stages. Installation of the equipment done first and then insulation work done by another crew. Were there when they said they would be and very impressed by the attention to cleanup and explanation of what was being done daily. Vacuumed at the end of each day!

I had called Rodenheiser the day before. The receptionist was not friendly at all and said the "might" have someone come down to look at my heat. They never called back. When I called later she was very annoyed and said they might not have anyone available until 2 days after. She said they would call me back and never did. The next day I called Chaves Heating & Air Conditioning. The receptionist was very friendly. She immediately sent a technician to diagnose the problem. They carefully studied my equipment and even called the tech support of the manufacturer to ensure getting the right diagnostic. Turned out the blower motor had to be replaced. The receptionist kept me in the loop, giving me phone calls at regular intervals to give progress updates because they did not have the part in stock. She even looked into my warrantly and managed to get the blower motor free of charge. I only had to pay labor and tax, which saved me $600. They were even kind enough to have a driver pick up the motor to ensure installing it as soon as possible. My heat was up and running less than 48 hours after my first call thanks to Chaves, meanwhile Rodenheiser hasn't even called me back. I would definitely recommend Chaves Heating & Air Conditioning. They are true professionals who care about the comfort of their customers and they get out of their way to give you the best price.

Manny was very responsive and professional throughout the design and installation of our new geothermal system. I came with question after question about every aspect of the system and he was always quick, honest, and thorough with his replies. There were bits we disagreed about throughout the process (mostly due to my own ignorance), but he was always patient and walked me through the reasons behind his decisions. The new system looks very professional and seems to be running well. Only time will tell how much it will save vs. our old oil burning system! Price includes well drilling work which was performed by Skillings & sons.

First, we reached out to several contractors for estimates. Chaves was the most knowledgable, was able to clearly explain their suggested configuration and answered all our questions until we understood things, was the most professional in their demeanor (no fast talking, no condescension), and their quote was the best cost-wise. Second, they were very responsive to emails and calls. There was a little confusion while we were scheduling the installation date -- one person thought we had been contacted already, and we didn't hear back from them until a few days after they said they would call -- but otherwise, communications were clear, timely, and efficient. Third, the crew was great during the 2-day installation process. Everyone was calm, professional, respectful, and careful in their work. There was a great moment when a mistake was about to happen. It was my fault: I didn't clearly communicate some details about positioning of the units, and I realized my mistake as their work was getting underway. What was great was that when I caught the mistake, the response was calm and professional. We simply discussed the situation a bit more, then the situation was remedied. Fourth, several days after the installation, an unexpected issue came up. I called towards the end of one day to ask them what to do, and they came out the very next day to fix the issue. It was an easy, fast fix, but still -- they were very quick to respond, and that was much appreciated. Fifth, they were very organized, and absolutely great with helping us with paperwork. They knew about several cost-savings programs we could take advantage of (rebates, etc), and instead of leaving us to figure out the systems on our own, they provided us the appropriate forms to fill out. Finally, the system Chaves configured was the least expensive of the several quotes we received because their system involved fewer units than other contractors' configurations. We'll see how things go once winter really hits, but so far, several weeks into using our system, it seems that Chaves knew what they were doing. The number of units we have is perfectly fine. More units -- and the higher cost -- that other contractors suggested would have been overkill. Chaves saved us money AND configured a system that was just what we needed. And they were great to work with, too!

We first contacted Chaves when the boiler in our newly bought house began malfunctioning. They had a technician come to our house within a few hours. He was professional and very helpful. As he worked, he explained what he was doing and why he was doing it. The price was appropriate for the parts and amount of labor. A week later, we were still having issues. There was water leaking all over our basement. I called Chaves again. Rachel apologized and said that a technician would be out to see us soon. When there was a delay, Rachel called to assure me that we were a priority and to reiterate that someone was going to come. I was impressed that I didn?t need to check on the status myself! When the technician arrived he put on boot-slippers before coming into the house (we have wood floors) . He determined that the issue was not with the boiler but with another piece of our system. Not only did he explain the next steps that needed to be taken to fix the issue, he also took the time to show us how to safely live in the house while the issue was still active. I really appreciated him going above and beyond. He didn?t charge us anything, and he drained our boiler a little to make certain that the issue that had occurred the previous week (that was caused from pressure building) did not happen again. I was impressed by his knowledge and professional demeanor.

I initially called Chaves because my outside air conditioner unit was making a lot of noise. I also wasn't getting much cooling in the house. The thermostat was set at 70 degrees but the house temperature was 82. The technicial came out and showed me that my A/C coils were thickly covered with ice. He said there was nothing he could do until the ice melted. There was no charge for the visit. So I turned off the A/C and allowed the A/C coils to melt. Since the house temperature was now up to 84 degrees it only took a day or so to melt. My air conditioner was a installed by the builder [my house is only 1 1/2 years old] and only had the "factory charge". When the technician came back a few days later he recharged the A/C unit with Puron. Now the Air Conditioner is working great!
