I have worked with Joel a few times and the experiences were fantastic! More recently, I have clients who hired Nelson Parness as their inspector and were equally as thrilled. For me as a realtor, I think it's important to have an inspector who you can trust, is not an alarmist, and who explains things in a way that makes sense. He is extremely knowledgeable and professional, listening to concerns and questions, and really puts everyone at ease before he even starts. Nelson has been a top choice with buyers and homeowners not only because of his expertise, but because of his ability to connect and knowing you're in good hands when you hire him.

My wife and I couldn't be happier with the home inspection provided by Joel and his son, Nelson. We were referred to Joel by a friend that had used him in the past. They were prompt, professional, and answered all of our questions during the inspection period which lasted approximately 2 hours. They emailed a detailed report the following day which included lots of photos. My wife and I had some follow up questions over the course of the next few days that we emailed to Joel; in every case, he replied back with an answer within an hour or two. I would definitely use Joel and Nelson again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to family and friends.

My Realtor referred Joel parness. As I am first time home buyer I just went with Realtor suggestion, Please don't ever hire a person referred by Realtor. Coming to Joel he never answered my questions. As I am first time buyer ,My first question to him was whats under house siding. He said its not part of his job,he said the same to another few questions. I may agree its not part of his job but atleast his responsibility to expain stuff. He said nothing wrong with the house but I ran into many issues which inspector should have identified. I learning my mistakes and hopefully no first time home buyer will ever have to go through this.

Response from Accurate Home Inspections By Joel Parness
It is difficult to figure out how to respond to a "review" like this. I did this inspection 9 months ago on 4-14-14 (NOT 4-30-14). The client has all of my contact information, so why can't he pick up the phone or send me an email? I would be happy to answer any questions or even meet with him at the house at no charge. Instead, he chooses to badmouth me on Angie's list. This house looked pretty, but it is still a 50 year old used house. It has a 10 year old roof, a 17 year old heating and AC system, problems with some windows and skylights and it is being monitored for Termite infestation. All of these things and more were fully documented in a 55 page report complete with color pictures that have little red arrows pointing to the problem areas. In addition, all of the major structures and systems were fully explained verbally and in the report, along with maintenance suggestions. I never said that "everything is fine". With all due respect, this individual appears to have a great deal of difficulty communicating in English. Perhaps if he had paid more attention during the 3 hours I spent picking the house apart instead of kibitzing with the 5 or 6 friends and relatives that he invited to the inspection, or else had someone translate the report for him afterwards, he would have gotten more out of it. I am extremely offended by this person's implication that I somehow "went easy" on the house because my name was on some list that a broker gave him. I can assure everybody that nothing could be further from the truth. For over 18 years, I have built my reputation as a tough, thorough and scrupulously honest home inspector with thousands of very satisfied clients.

Did not detect obvious signs of black toxic mold, Was told it could be cleaned with bleached and water. Did not note water damage covered up with Kilz/primer. Over $20K in repairs because of this oversight. Spent only two hours on a 4 Bedroom 3 bath home 2,400 SQF home, very rushed. Was very rude when I spoke with him about this.....and quot;Not my problem, deal with my insurance companyand quot;

Response from Accurate Home Inspections By Joel Parness
This client expressed a concern about mold during the inspection and was told verbally, and in writing, that detecting the presence or verifying the absence of mold was beyond the scope of the inspection and was excluded by Massachusetts law and by our contract, which he read and signed. He was further advised that since he had concerns about mold, that he should hire a mold specialist before he signed his purchase and sale agreement and committed himself to buying the property. He chose not to follow my advise. During the inspection, he told me that he intended to remodel the kitchen, which it badly needed, and a contractor friend of his even showed up to measure the cabinets and flooring. After he took possession of the property, he immediately gutted the kitchen. Only then did he hire a mold specialist, who naturally found mold under the cabinets, stove and dishwasher, areas that are not accessible during a pre-purchase home inspection. I asked the client to send me copies of the mold report and pictures of the problem areas, which he did. I submitted these to my insurance company, who denied the claim based on the fact that mold is beyond the scope of the inspection and the client was specifically advised of this. Insurance companies today aggressively investigate all claims for potential fraud, and do not just send out checks to people who want new kitchens. I regret that this individual feels that he got a bad inspection and that he chose to blast me in a public forum. I certainly was never rude to him and we never spoke after the inspection. All communications were done by email. He neglected to mention in his post that the total price for the inspection included a $250.00 Comprehensive water test, or that I provided a 50+ page report that took me an additional 2 hours to write, which documented the many legitimate problems that this home had. I have performed inspections for thousands of very happy clients over a period of over 16 years and my other Angie's List ratings reflect that. I take great pride in doing an extremely thorough inspection and in helping to increase the client's knowledge of the structure and systems of their new home.

Joel was great! He arrived early and started inspecting the outside of the home before we arrived. He was extremely thorough and also very patient with us (first time home buyers) as we asked him several questions about what things were, how they worked, etc. The house he inspected for us was a 4-5 bedroom cape and it took about 2 hours. He was very efficient and thorough and provided us with a detailed report the next evening. We don't have other inspectors to compare him to, but he was a bit less expensive than other inspectors we called, very nice, very professional, and did a great job!
Description of Work: Joel provided a thorough inspection of the home and completed a radon test.

I was a first time buyer and did not really know what to expect in the homes inspection. I have used Joel Parness twice and both times his inspections have saved my life!!! He is extremely punctual, super clear, precise in communication and is very, very thorough. Joel is passionate about his work and is like a seasoned detective when it comes to home inspections. Both times I have used Joel's services, he goes about his job in a very detailed, unhurried manner. And he found issues!!. He was also patient in explaining some of the stuff I did not know or understand. As a home buyer, one tends to be a bit stressed out during the process. Joel also has a wonderful sense of humour that helps to lighten up the whole process. If you need a fantastic home inspector, do yourself a favor and hire Accurate Home Inspections.

Joel Parness was terrific to work with. He was clear about the process and the price during our initial phone conversation. He showed up 15 minutes before I arrived just to walk around the outside of the property. He took me through the inspection step-by-step, explaining what he was looking for and whether something was in good shape or needed repair. He took loads of photos, which were included in his report. He offered the radon test and said that if I opted not to do it that it was probably ok since none of the homes he had tested in the area tested high on the radon scale. I opted for the test anyway, and he was right (thankfully!). I would work with him again and recommend him with confidence. UPDATE 09.06: Again, I cannot recommend Joel enough. When my computer died and I needed a new copy of the home inspection, he sent it to me within a day and also included a new copy of the radon report. He was terrific, friendly, and incredibly professional. Thanks, Joel!

Joel was incredibly thorough and really explained things as we went. He took pictures of the problem areas he found which were included as part of the report. He then emailed a PDF of the report less than 24 hours later (on 4th of July no less)! We were very pleased with the inspection and impressed with Joel's knowledgeability in every aspect of the home. Our agent (who has been to hundreds of inspections) was also very impressed.
Description of Work: Joel performed an inspection prior to the purchase of our new home. The inspection took about 3 hours.
