We had originally had him quote us for a much bigger renovation but when we decided that we were not prepared to spend that much at this time he worked with us to meet our new lower budget. We will definitely hire him again when we are ready to make more improvements.
Description of Work: John created a breakfast bar and removed some cabinetry in our kitchen. The breakfast bar had to be built around an existing furnace which had to remain accessible. John worked with us to come up with a design that would work, provided recommendations for vendors for countertops and new cabinets and installed the breakfast bar to his design.

He helped us make decisions and offer helpful suggestions. The workers were just amazing! They cleaned up after themselves which was much appreciated. I contacted three other companies for bids and he by far stood out. He was conscious of our budget as well. I cannot recommend him highly enough!!

 + 8 moreJohn and his crew are all professional, flawlessly courteous and patient, and highly skilled. Throughout the process, John was in daily contact with us to tell us how the project was going, and what the next steps were. The guys working in our home were so nice, friendly with us and our kids, and cleaned up every day. When there were occasional glitches along the way (carpet installed wrong by the vendor, a problem with the door lock), John was right there to address the problems to our satisfaction. We have received many compliments on the craftsmanship of the work, all thanks to JMS.
Description of Work: John and his crew did a complete remodel of our unfinished basement. They removed a lally column and installed new reinforced beams; built walls and a new pantry and storage closet, installed tile and carpeted flooring, and installed a media cabinet, speakers (indoor and outdoor) and new lighting. Painted all and installed a huge glass door to the outside patio as well.

 + 0 moreI am one of the most picky people I know but John (the owner of JMS) is as picky if not more than I am. John has an attention to detail that is second to none. John walked us through the process all the while working with our insurance company to maximize our benefits so we could get a replacement roof that was equal to if not better than what we currently have in place. John and his crew were professional, polite and most importantly willing and able to do the job right. This was one of the most pleasant experiences I have ever had. The work was done with care. The crew including John were great to deal with. We always had someone available to us including John to answer any and all questions. The follow-up has been great. I honestly can say from a picky person's point of view this group is the best. For all future jobs John will be the first person I call. It was worth the wait now I believe we have the best roof in our neighborhood thanks to the hard work and detailed follow-up from John and his team.
Description of Work: After experiencing a freak hail storm in late May 2009 our roof required replacement. You would think getting an estimate for a full roof repair would be simple and straight forward. I had contacted over 5 roofing companies including JMS partners who all had strong reputations. JMS (John) was the only one who was immediately responsive and put me in the queue for a full site inspection and estimate. Several of the other "reputable," companies either did not return phone calls after repeated attempts to contact or when the did offer the estimate I was unable to get them to follow-up again with a start date for weeks on end. We had to wait for John because he was busy due to all the summer jobs he was working on but the wait was worth it.

 + 1 moreI originally found JMS on Angie's list and contacted John (the owner) regarding my project because he was local and had received good reviews. I was having my house re-roofed but found the most roofers do not want to deal with carpentry or anything below the gutters. I was eliminating vented drip edge ventilation with the re-roofing and wanted continuous soffit vents cut into the existing soffit. From the start John was very responsive and had one of his employees (David) came out within a day and looked over the scope of the job to prepare the estimate. I was obvious that David was a pro and completely understood what needed to be done. Subsequently, John promptly prepared and sent me the written estimate and followed up with a phone call to get feedback. Initially, I thought the price was a little high but given the nature of the work (working upside down on ladder jack scaffolding cutting in vents) I found that a couple of other companies were not interested in doing the project the way I proposed. John's two employees who completed the project over 2 1/2 days were meticulous in their work and did an outstanding job. Upon completion they cleaned the entire work area. They were punctual in starting the project and completing it as outlined. John followed up via telephone to make sure everything was completed to my satisfaction. I would highly recommend JMS for any woodworking projects being considered.
Description of Work: Installed approximately 180 linear feet of 2" continuous soffit ventilation to 2 story hip roof colonial house with extended family room addition. Cut vents into existing soffit and finished ventilation trim with 5/16" nose molding. Also, replaced two small sections of rotted facia boards behind gutters and painted.

He was extremely thoughtful, courteous and informative about the things that were still wrong with our home. As soon as I finish with the general contractor we used I will be calling John to fix all the problems. Joh is a genuine professional and knows his trade. I highly recommend John/JMS Partners.
Description of Work: Had my home rebuilt after fire by another contractor..have had nothing but problems with wiring, heat and central air. Not to mention shody workmanship. Was worried that there were other things wrong that were not visible, that's when we call John.

 + -1 moreI can honestly say this was the most satisfying experience with a contractor we have ever had. John is incredibly responsive to any and all questions, days, nights, or weekends. He is so very patient with the most inane question. He helped us through large and small design decisions. John does not do the majority of work himself, but has a select small group of men to do the various types of jobs; all of them are extremely nice, thorough, and do excellent work. All of them cleaned up thoroughly every night before leaving. John came by many nights to check on the work, to see if we had questions, and whether we were satisfied. John and one of his workers came on a Sunday evening at 10 PM to fix a water heat problem and stayed until well after 2 am until it was fixed. They are that dedicated. The final project cost was about 10% above the original quote, but that is because some of the scope of the project increased as issues arose. I think the costing was very reasonable for the high quality of the workmanship. We now have 25% more living space and it's the best looking part of the house. It was an outstanding job. We will use John again in a heartbeat. We cannot recommend him highly enough.
Description of Work: We used John Tartaglione's JMS Partners for a basement remodeling. The basement had never been finished, though the previous homeowner had put up some framing and sheetrock. We engaged John to remodel about 750 sf of the basement, about 3/4 of it's floor space. The job involved demolition, clean up, scraping and sealing of the basement cement foundation, framing, insulation, putting in a sub-flooring, carpeting, sheetrock, electrical with recessed lighting, baseboard electrical heat, millwork, trim, painting, wired outlets for remote speakers and internet, replaced basement windows, and dug splash pits for those windows. The electrical include adding a whole-house surge suppressor, swapping out the majority of electrical outlets in the house, and new lighting fixtures in the mechanical room in the basement. HVAC included a new exhaust fan and duct for the oil burner and fresh air fan for circulation. John and his crew built closets and an office space as part of the renovation. A dumpster was on premises for the length of the job. The job began mid-December 2008 and was finished at the start of June 2009. The vast bulk of the work was done by mid-April, by which time the basement was usable. During the middle of the ice dam freeze-thaw-freeze this winter John advised us on insulating and ventilating our attic to try to mitigate any chance of ice damming, which appears to have worked. He further did some design work on fixing our gutters, which we have yet to follow up on.

Description of Work: I had called JMS Partners in 2007 to rebuild my home that had burnt down, unfortunately he was booked solid. We hired another contractor and it turned out to be a nightmare that is still going on to this day. I called John and asked if he could come out to our home and help me put together a list of things he saw wrong. And low and behold their were code violations and poor workmanship and basically a lot of grief. He found things we couldn't have ever seen in the poor workmanship John came out right away, extremely professional and will surely hire him when these issues of the bad reconstruction of our home are resolved. Polite, Kind and most all understanding. A true professional. I highly recommend John, JMS Partners.

 + -1 moreJohn was fantastic! He came out and assessed the situation only after an extremely thorough inspection of the area which sustained damage. This included going up on the roof, into the attic and through the home in the affected areas. John was punctual, detailed, professional, forthcoming, and honest. I know it sounds kind of like a boyscout pledge but it was so refreshing to be able to deal with someone who KNEW what they were talking about and had no problem explaining things in layman's terms! John truly has earned his success and deserves every bit of the accolades that seem to be draped on him on this site. The proposal was detailed, the work began when promissed, the crew was EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL, and knew what they were doing. John was constantly checking up on things or doing work himself. If only there were more contractors like JMS Partners we would have no need for this list! John is still coming back to do a second coat of paint on the siding if it ever stops raining! He is in contact nearly every day to update me on whether he will be able to paint or not. I have no fear that he got "lost".
Description of Work: We have a custom built home which sustained considerable damage from ice dams this past winter. Shingle removal and replacement, flashing, counter-flashing, ice and water shield, step flashing, tyvek reinstalled and taped, faulty siding removed and replaced, trim removed and replaced with Azek rot proof trim.

 + -1 morePrior to painting the house, there was quite a bit of rot that needed to be attended to. After a thorough inspection of the house, several options were offered and quoted. We were also interested in how some longer term maintenance/repair plans would best fit into the work being done at this time. We had several meetings to discuss the plans, options and costs - they we very thorough and patient with us, answering all our questions and providing several options to fit our budget and timeframe worries. The team started promptly as promised, work full days until finished, and we very courteous of noise and the neighbors. They found several additional minor repairs that needed doing along the way and took care of them at no additional charge. The column repairs turned into full replacement, also at no additional charge. The worksmanship was extremely good. I would not hestitate to recommend this team to anyone. Their quality and professionalism are outstanding.
Description of Work: Completed extensive repairs of house exterior including: rotted fascia, portico rake board and cedar clapboards; replacing chimney lead including installation of ice and water shield on cheek wall, new step flashing, new roof shingles and clapboars; completely rebuilt wood columns on Federal style home.

John kept in constant touch with us via phone, e-mail, & personal visits throughout the project. While the cost was not bottom-dollar, it was a fair price for the high-quality work. Any major project will have some hiccups, and John worked with us to ensure that we were completely satisfied with the end result. We now have an additional 400+ sq feet of comfortable living space with a beautiful walk-in closet, and we are very happy with the results.
Description of Work: John's team furnished our attic. They put down the subfloor & insulation, framed out a closet, replaced two windows, hung the drywall, molding, & closet door, installed a wall-mounted HVAC unit, lighting, outlets, phone & cable, upgraded the smoke detection/CO2 detectors throughout the house, and installed wall-to-wall carpet.

Mr. Tartaglione was over in a flash, the carpenter was there the next day, worked quickly and neatly, replaced vinyl tiles above and beyond the call of duty, and cleaned up thoroughly afterward.

Description of Work: Removed existing defective skylight and associated flashing kit. Installed new, fixed, non-venting Velux skylight of similar size. Applied 15# felt paper to area where shingles removed. Ice & water shield around skylight. Re-installed new shingles and flashing kit. Removed damaged sheetrock and insulation and re-installed. Taped and mud sheetrock. Apply texture as close as possible to existing texture. Disposed of all debris.

 + -1 moreExcellent job overall. Clean, efficient. Missed a few spots initially but responded quickly and fixed. Cost is a little on the high side but balanced against quality of work. Cost was also a little higher than initial estimate since one room ended up needing a second coat.
Description of Work: Supply labor & materials to apply 1 coat of latex finish paint to all wall, wood work and ceiling surfaces in sunroom and 2 coats of finish paint to all non-paneled woodwork & walls in living room. Fill nailholes/screw holes and touch up cracks with a layer of joint compound. Apply 1 coat of primer to badly worn areas, for example around doorknob to adjacent room, and to newly-sheetrocked surfaces adjacent to skylight only. Portions of all doors, door jambs and door casing ondoors to adjoining rooms - sides facing rooms to be painted only - are included. Floor coverings will be protected from painting. All debris will be disposed of.

I believe his biggest strength is his attention to detail and his ability to communicate effectively and thoroughly about the problems with your home. He always did what he said he'd do. He was careful to communicate his concerns about whatever was going on with the project, and his goal was that you understood and were happy with the results. He gave us an estimate, told us when he would be able to start work and finish and was completely accurate. He had two employees work on our house for approximately one month. He would come everyday to look at the progress and talk to us, usually via email, about what was accomplished and any areas of concern. He was always available by phone or to drop by if we missed him during the day. His employees were very pleasant, friendly, courteous, and always concerned that they were not interfering with whatever I needed to do. They worked long days cleaned up at the end of each day, and best of all they paid much attention to detail.
Description of Work: JMS Partners redesigned and repaired an exterior corner of our house that had become water damaged because of a problem with the original design and the materials that were used at the time.

 + -1 moreI can't say enough good things about John at JMS. I was in contact with him multiple times over the Summer to view potential homes that I was thinking about buying and repairing. He spent several hours walking around the properties with me, giving suggestions and comments about the type of work that I wanted done. He provided a detailed price list for all potential repairs so I could evaluate how much financial sense it would make to buy the properties. In the end one of John's employees performed a relatively simple service for me (the window wrapping), but I would have not hesitated to use him for any work that we needed to have done. John charged me $500 for the 5 or 6 hours he spent walking around 2 properties with me, but applied 100% of that money towards the window work we eventually had done. He's a great guy to discuss repairs with and never looks for a shoddy shortcut around what really needs to be done for a proper repair.
Description of Work: Exterior window wrapping with aluminum stock to bring the property into compliance with the MA lead law.

 + -1 moreIt went well. The workmen were prompt, polite, and professional. The work was of high quality, and guaranteed in writing. The estimates were about what we expected, price-wise. John worked with us to discuss options until we were satisfied with the plan. The summer weather hadn't been kind for roof work, and John's schedule was pushed back. As a result, it sometimes took a few days for him to get back to us, but we weren't in a hurry, so this did not present a problem.
Description of Work: We had a couple of random-but-related projects. We needed some roof repair (loose shingles and repairing the ridge vents along the top), and a rerouted sewer gas vent pipe that crossed our unfinished attic. The old position for the pipe was leaking water, and was just in an inconvenient position if we wanted to finish the attic. John also gave us estimates for replacing a skylight, which we decided to skip because that will be included in a larger project when we decide how we want to finish the attic.
