JMS Partners does thorough, high quality work and manages all aspects of the job. All contractors used have been excellent and always leave our home neat and tidy. They have earned very high marks us.

When I originally called for an estimate in May, I was told, very professionally, right up front they were very busy and wouldn't be able to inspect the job and prepare an estimate for 2 to 3 weeks. I followed up at that time and they came right out. The $3345 estimate was fair for the work involved. About 2 weeks after the estimate was completed, they scheduled the job. The workers showed up when I was told they would and they completed the job in consecutive days, arriving at the same time every day, cleaning up (incredibly!) after each day and at the end of the job. One question came up as to whether the walls were supposed to be primed and it was immediately resolved to my satisfaction. I worked with Tom Moss on my project. He was professional, knowledgeable, very pleasant to deal with and a genuine nice guy. I'm very happy with how the work was completed. My guest room and hallway look fabulous. I will most certainly use JMS again for any project in my home and will refer them to my friends as well.
Description of Work: I needed my guest room renovated and my hallway painted. JMS removed the old wallpaper, put up 1/2" drywall to cover the calcimine ceiling, replaced the ceiling molding, primed and painted the entire guest room. They also primed and painted my hallway and put up the ceiling fan in my guest room.

About a year ago, my wife and I decided that the time had come to finish the job of remodeling our house. We consulted Angie's List and requested quotes for a new roof from a number of general contractors, all of whom had won numerous "Super Service Awards" from Angie's List. Among the people who responded, John Tartaglione of JMS Partners, Inc. stood head and shoulders above all the rest in terms of both knowledge and eagerness to do very precise, careful work. [I was not surprised when I subsequently learned that John had, in his previous life, been a Navy pilot who flew an F-14 fighter jet from an aircraft carrier based in the Mediterranean. If you're nice to John, he will send you breathtaking photographs of carrier operations.] John was the obvious choice to do the work but, because of prior commitments, he wasn't able to do the work immediately. In December, he arrived with a crew who replaced our roof in one day, thus ending our problem with water leaking into the attic. Soon thereafter, John introduced me to his two primary employees, Tom Moss and Steve Maynard. Between the two of them, they carried out an extensive array of repairs, including (a) installilng soffit vents and closing gable vents, (b) releading chimneys, (c) installing ten windows, (d) replacing all corner boards on the house, (e) re-siding one end of the house, (f) completely rebuilding one wall of the garage, and (g) replacing the weight-bearing beams (victims of hidden water damage) at one end of the house. I would characterize all of the work they did as "work of exquisite quality". As for John, he has, during the past few months, visited two days out of every three to check on progress and solve problems. During the course of these visits, he has repeatedly shared valuable information which has saved me tens of thousands of dollars [On one occasion, he made me aware that the hidden water damage at one end of my house was covered by insurance. This observation led ultimately to two checks totaling $10,000 from my insurance company.]. John Tartaglione is the contractor every homeowner would like to hire but may have difficulty finding without the assistance of an organization such as Angie's List.

I was not satisfied with the business transaction. I would never do business with him again because he came to look at the job and we had agreed on a price of $1200 or $1300. I thought $1200 was a fair price. He made a walkway for the crawl space and he used scrap plywood and now I get splinters when I walk on it. I thought he would have used new wood. He wanted to charge me another $300 to paint the door and I thought that was included in the price but he never mentioned that in the price. It took 3 weeks and he finally came and painted it. We negotiated and I ended up paying $100 but I felt manipulated. The job was done professionally but he had his partner come in an do the door. I was satisfied with the quality of the door. THE ABOVE COMMENTS HAVE HAPPENED IN THE PAST. THE SERVICE PROVIDER HAS SINCE AGREED TO COME BACK AND MAKE CHANGES THE WORK HE HAD DONE. I WILL PLAN TO CHANGE THE GRADES AND COMMENTS FOLLOWING THESE CHANGES. This work has now been satisfactorially completed and I am happy with the work that was performed.
Description of Work: He built the door for my crawlspace.

One word: oustanding! John, Tom and Steve did a phenomenal job on our basement. The work was done as promised, on time and on budget. John and his team were always very attentive to our daily comments, and if we were not 100% satisfied with something, it be fixed the next day. The vanity that showed up was not the right one, and John worked with the supplier to get the right model delivered in no time. In addition, we had a couple small things to fix in the house and John took care of them at no charge. Overall, we could not be more happy with the way the project went, and we are very glad that John was there to take care of the entire project for us. We used John's services several times over the last few years for various maintenance and upgrade projects and we have always been extremely satisfied. John is extremely proactive, and he will more often than not anticipate our needs before we even have a chance to mention what we want! Finally, the subs that John uses all have the same work ethics that he does, which makes a huge difference. We will definitely call John again for our next project!
Description of Work: We completely finished the basement, added a bathroom, a laundry room, a playroom and additional closets. We had a sub-floor installed throughout, with cork flooring in the playroom and tile in the bathroom and laundry room. We had additional forced hot water heating installed, including a second zone for the basement, as well as an additional window.

Working with JMS was an outstanding experience...I really can't think of a way to make it better. I called during a busy time after severe storms. JMS was able to send out an estimator after only a few days, while other contractors in the area had not yet returned calls. The estimate was prompt and about what I expected. The job was a small, half-day repair, but JMS behaved as if it was just as important to them as any other work in their queue. Tom Moss did an excellent job advising me and also was a pleasure to work with when he did the hands on repair work. Most importantly, the roof doesn't leak. What I liked best was their willingness to work with me the way I wanted to be worked with. I wanted to tackle the framing and trim work myself, so the Principal Supervisor, John Tartaglione, agreed to perform just the roof membrane work, once I completed the framing repairs. That shows some qualities that I admire: an inclination to take risk, willingness to trust others and a passion for teamwork. After all, what if I did a lousy job and the roof leaked? I feel I can count on JMS to show up on time, develop a clear, understandable plan and to do what they say they will. Their self-confidence shows in many ways, and I hope I will be able to work with them on a larger project real soon.
Description of Work: JMS reshingled a portion of my residential roof which had been damaged by a falling tree.

I was very pleased with the the way the work was performed. John and Tom were very knowledgeable, professional and punctual. John also noted some other problems and possible problems and offered various solutions.
Description of Work: On the second floor of my home, I was getting water infiltration along the rafters that had caused damage to the hallway floor and some damage to the ceiling on the first floor the previous winter. JMS Partners assessed the problem. First Tom came over to view the project and the following day John, the owner of the company, came to review what needed to be done. Tom removed the siding on the side of the house, but found that the leak was higher up the house nearer to the attic. He removed more of the siding, found the problem, cut away the rotted sheathing , replaced it, made it water tight, installed flashing and reinstalled the siding and the roof shingles.

If you are looking for a professional who cares, hire John Tartaglione, Owner of JMS Partners. He will not rest until the job is completed to your satisfaction. We feel that John pays the highest level of attention to his customers. He is extremely responsive, capable, personable, knowledgeable and detail oriented. He even came over to our home at ten o?clock on a Saturday evening to investigate a potential issue! Needless to say, we are very grateful. Steve, an employee of JMS Partners, did much of the work in our home. He is professional, punctual and has much building experience. We also found Steve to be very polite and personable. All of the other subcontractors that John hired were on-time, friendly and professional. We are first time homeowners and wanted to improve our ranch style home. JMS helped us with the following jobs: Demolition and renovation of the main bathroom, renovation of the master bathroom, skim coating walls in master bed and bath, installed new closet door and bathroom door in the master, electrical and insulation in the work areas, installed two new windows, installed new boiler room door, new kitchen sink faucet, painting two rooms and minor foam spray insulation. John has an easy to understand process: He?s very thoughtful about each job, gives all options considering your budget, makes a recommendation, quotes and then completes the work. He always told us how much the job would cost before he began. John?s invoices matched what he quoted us every time. In some cases, the invoice was lower than what he originally quoted us! John perfectly orchestrated every aspect of our home renovations. He spent hours with us providing helpful home owner tips. We are very pleased with the end result. I highly recommend JMS Partners, and would utilize John?s services again in the future. Thank you John!

Excellent. John is professional, courteous, experienced, and very knowledgable about all types of home repairs, renovations, and remodeling. We found the company on Angie's list, and quoted the job. Within about one month of quoting the job, the work started. All the repairs and renovations were well done, and we enjoyed working with John, who is client-oriented, communicates well, and easy to work with. He has a background in engineering and is well-organized and detail-oriented. He has high standards, and is on-site every day so the work is closely supervised. He is lead-certified and has careful work practices, closely following recommended precautions for removing building materials that contain old lead paint. This was one of the reasons we chose JMS Partners over a few others, as based on our initial meeting we were confident he would follow correct practices for lead removal whereas some other companies seemed less concerned about following correct procedures. Our basement bathroom and storage closet now look great! I highly recommend this company, and would certainly hire them again in the future.
Description of Work: Repaired ceiling, replaced molding, did interior painting, and replaced cabinet in basement bathroom and storage closet following signiifcant water damage caused by ice dams last winter. We were interested in replacing our white laminate countertops with granite and replacing our sink and kitchen faucet.. It was essential that we find a company that dealt with U.S. manufacturers. John helped us in our search, going above and beyond the call of duty to make us satisfied. During the installation, John made it possible that we could keep our previous faucet and water supply so we would not be without water for a week to 10 days. and then he installed a new Delta faucet and stainless steel sink. John's crew was knowledgeable, polite, and prompt. The finished product is exquisite. Kudos to JMS Partners!

JMS Partners did an exceptional job in responding to our problem, providing options on what materials were available for our project and completing the job. I will use JMS Partners again and recommend them to anyone who needs a personable, professional contractor.
Description of Work: John, the president of JMS Partners, inspected a leak in our ceiling from one of our sky lights and found that it had been leaking for quite a long time. Upon further inspection, he found that it was a major leak and that old roof was leaking from several areas. At the time, late March, we were still experiencing cold weather, John patched it to get us to a warmer period. In April, JMS removed some of the ceiling to find the problem. John found that the leak worse than we had expected. It was decided that we would remove the two sky lights on the roof and replace it with a rubber roof, as the roof has a very low slope. As the weather services were predicting a period of rain, John immediately ordered the supplies, had the sky lights removed and had the roof installed over the weekend. In addition to this section of the roof leaking, we found where the roof over the 3 season porch had leaked when the snow accumulated. John also repaired that problem. When the sky lights were removed a structural beem was found to rotted and needed to be replaced, along with a recessed light fixture. These items were replaced, inspected and approved by the town building inspector and the insulation, and ceiling repaired.

Great - timely talked me out of having up some very expensive work done also. Nov contracted with John to resolve drainage issues which we had with a drainage channel in our driveway which had heaved and caused damage to the driveway and adjoining sidewalk, the sidewalk was also damaged from a gutter leader which was under it, had been installed by the builder using the wrong material and cracked from the weight of the sidewalk. The side yard has had years of run off from the neighbor and sub-division which was corrected by putting in drainage pipes, four foot deep the length of my backyard, into two trenches and a riverbed to channel the water to the back of the yard into an existing swale. In doing this they exposed a hidden source of water, not only runoff but an underground stream and had to channel that as well by putting in a large perforated concrete pipe. The yard had massive amounts of clay and had truck loads of that taken out and replaced with good loam, the yard and under the porch was leveled and pitched so the water would not run back into the house. My black top close to the house was replaced with pavers as well as the side walkway, which was also widened to make it look more fitting for the size of the home. I went for three years of dealing with contractors who would not return calls, not show up, make excuses and in the end I am extremely happy with the job; this was extensive and expensive work, with some unknowns which were explained to me by John and the contractor. The professionalism of not only John but the contractors which he hired. made me extremely happy to pay the extra money - which after speaking with many contractors was in the end not that much more. John followed up daily, and the contractor which was hired to do the excavation and landscaping, Rob with Laurel Hill Landscaping, each were here daily to check up on his men who worked long days putting in an enormous amount of physical labor taking out not only the wheel barrows full of clay, stone, boulders, pavers, sod etc., but getting it all done in between rain and more rain. Can not say enough about John and Lauren Hill Landscaping. Thanks guys!!

We had two challenging jobs, difficult to find help with. One was a leaky sunroom type extension on the house, the other was trim inside hard to reach skylights. The skylight trim was fairly straight forward. The work was high up and tricky since there were out of square sections which needed some creative trim work. It went well and we were very satisfied with the finished result. The sunroom area had been silicon sealant patched from the outside and we had several people work on replacing rotten wood near the foundation and re-roofing but there were still spots where water actually came into the house. John and team were the first people to take a rigorous approach to finding the cause(s) before starting the work. This took a long time as we had to verify theories in different ways after rains but it was clearly the only approach which would yield a good result. JMS kept with it, were always prompt when they visited, always cleaned up and ultimately solved the problem by reflashing and a small amount of reroofing and finally, some creative work with ice and water shield and alumium flashing to solve the final problem. I can't say enough how much I appreciated John's patience and follow through. We kept in touch via email throughout the process and I never for a moment felt forgotten or dropped to the bottom of priorities even though no money was flowing out during long portions of the process. My experience with him was truly unique among all the contractors I've worked with over the years. I would recommend his problem solving, his professionalism, his follow through, his honesty and his finished work without hesitation.
Description of Work: JMS worked high up to put trim in place on the inside of velux windows which had been put in by roofers who didn't have the capacity to do the inside finish work. JMS also diagnosed a leaky sunroom area, reflashed and reroofed, caulked and repaired joints and made the thing water tight again..

Terrific! On time, perfect job, pleasant to work with. Owner checked finished work for quality and satisfaction.
Description of Work: Installed new kitchen cabinets. This experience was so successful we hired John again to repair a deck and front railings, to repair a rotted-out window ledge, to install attic stairs. Each job was done beautifully and professionally with John providing excellent advice for practical solutions. Since the cabinets were first installed, we have called on John three more times for other work. All fairly priced (have spent a total of $4 -5 thousand), done professionally, quickly and competently. A wonderful contractor/repair person with excellent staff. Some of their work was good, some of it was so-so, and some of it was not so good. The service wasn?t bad; they were fairly prompt but they didn?t use the right people for some specific tasks. For a plumbing job they used one of their people rather than a plumber so he did an amateur job.

Once again John, Steve and Dave did a great job. They were very responsive to all of our suggestions and our questions were answered quickly. We had some concern with a damp concrete floor and John had excellent ideas to help us keep the moisture away from our cork floor. John's attention to details was also welcome when he suggested swinging the new door on the opposite side, moving the switch and installing additional outlets. A couple glitches happened during the work, but every time John was great about it and things were fixed within a day or two. I will definitely use JMS Partners again for our next project!

Most of our claim ended up being covered, and we avoided having to open up the roof because of John's and Steve's ingenuity. Once again John took several extra precautions to make sure water would not be a problem again in this area. This is the second job that John, Steve and Dave did for us, and once again we are extremely happy with the quality of their work. We cannot recommend them enough!
Description of Work: We had some water leaking at the base of our chimney (prefab) in the basement and it originally looked like it was coming all the way from the roof. John gave us an estimate before finding a large amount of hidden wet rot on one of the rafters. This was caused by deficient flashing when the house was built and required extensive work to fix. The entire chimney was stripped and the rotted rafter fixed before replacing the sheathing and sidings, and adding proper water barriers and flashing.

John gave us a very detailed estimate for the work and discussed it with us on many occasions to answer all of our questions. Compared to other contractors, his estimate was on the high side. However, he was by far the most responsive and gave us great explanations about what he would do and why. We selected him based on this and also because of his great references. After the work started he made sure to keep us informed at every step (mostly by email), and we were told rapidly about any delay or surprises. The work was done on time and exactly on budget, even after he had to do additional work to replace some rotted studs. We are extremely satisfied with the superior quality of the work that John, Steve and Dave did for us. This is especially true of the care they took to make sure that no water would get inside the house after they were done, which is the reason why we had to call them in the first place! From our experience, John always adds extra layers of protection to be on the safe side. We have recommended JMS Partners without hesitation to many friends and colleagues, and have used their services again several times since that first job.
Description of Work: Replace rotted sliding door, replace rotted sheathing and sidings, fix deck.

The break-in was very upsetting and very inconvenient. My roommate had just moved out (no she didn't break in) and she needed access to the basement to get the rest of her stuff. Meanwhile the door was securely nailed shut. Despite the inconvenience, John arranged for his worker (Steve) to come out to the house on a Saturday on a holiday week-end. He opened the door in the am, and came back later to board it up when stuff moved out. A less caring business would have gouged me for providing service on a Saturday and a holiday, but John's price was reasonable and fair. In early May, I called John to get the door installed as my lawnmower was now imprisoned in the basement and the lawn was up to my knees. The door couldn't be installed earlier because it had to be set in concrete which apparently doesn't set in the cold. John couldn't do it right away because the door was not a standard size and needed to be special ordered; however, he offered to come over to the house and get my lawnmower out. I was astounded at his generousity. Feeling a bit wimpy, I managed to get the lawnmower up the stairs and out the kitchen, but I was very touched by his offer. The door was installed this past week and looks sound and secure. I have some other work to be done, but I wanted to get this review in quickly. JMS was wonderful. John answered my e-mails within hours. He responded to my worries with concern and sensitivity. He e-mailed quotes and did not charge a penny more than the quote. No surprises. His worker, Steve, arrived promptly, got to work and cleaned up after himself. I was concerned that an A-rated company might not have the time or interest in my small project, but JMS treated me like I was a wealthy home-owner with a pricey remodel. If there were a contractor olympics, JMS would get a gold medal!
Description of Work: My home was broken into in February. As it was evening, no one I called was available. Next day, I called 5 different contractors from the phone book. No one answered--all voice mails. As the afternoon proceeded, I got very worried--my house was wide open. I fired up the computer, joined Angie's list and called several companies listed. John Tartaglione of JMS Services called me back within hours and arranged for someone to come out to the house and board up the basement door that evening. Last week, the door was installed.
