This person was from Holyoke & Holyoke customers got a better rate then other people, simply because he liked to keep his work in Holyoke. They did a wonderful job. The pricing was great compared to the other estimates I got. It was something that I couldn?t turn down. This was something that was insured and even the insurance company couldn?t believe that I had that price; because their estimates were around what the other plumbers were. They used that estimate for the insurance and I ended up with a $2,500 discount. Everything that Reidy did was tops. They set everything up, explained everything and this has an automatic water filler. They set it up and run it by hand for a month and they came back and when through everything. They had it inspected and everything went well. If I could get as good as discount that they gave me and the other estimates were higher, I would use them again, that would be just normal.
Description of Work: It was for the heating system, the boiler had cracked. It is a rental property and the tenant didn’t realize when you pour cold water into a hot boiler, it cracks. The flow water shut off wasn’t working. They fixed the boiler.

That was included in the price. They are pretty conscientious about their work.
Description of Work: They came back to inspect the boiler. It had to be switched over to automatic feed. They were using the hand feed because the new boilers have a coating of oil. They have to boil that coating of oil out, then they drain it, run it for another day and drain it, then turn it onto automatic. You don't have to check it again. You still have to drain the low water shut off valve so it stays clean and working. They came in and just did it, call me and told me they had done it. I didn't have to be there.

I called Reidy for an estimate on a gas boiler. Mr. Reidy was punctual and polite, measured radiators, etc., told me he would send an estimate, but I never received one. After a week or so I called the office and told the man who answered that I had never received an estimate and reiterated my email address in case something had gotten mixed up there, and I was told I would receive a call back and an estimate. No call back and no estimate. If there was a reason that Mr. Reidy did not want the job, I would have appreciated having him let me know. It cost me a couple of weeks time waiting for his estimate and then finding another company to quote. I'm giving a D instead of an F because Mr. Reidy was punctual and polite when he visited.

Reidy was one of several companies who quoted us for an entirely new central AC system (we had no existing ductwork). Several companies came out and eyeballed it, but Reidy was one of the few who did proper load calculations. They gave us tiered options and we went for a middle-of-the road install plus some extras that we chose (we wanted an extra return in one room, for example). They contracted out the electrical work (we needed an entire new panel, which is one of the reasons the price was a little high) and did the rest of the work themselves in two days (3 total days - one electrical, two install). We have a raised ranch with an accessible attic, so it was a fairly straight-forward installation. The installers were fantastic, courteous, and happily cleaned up the snowstorm of insulation that entered our house during the project. Fast forward two seasons and we had a chance to actually turn it on - there was a strange noise when the system energized, and Reidy sent a technician out ASAP for no charge. He spent a couple of hours troubleshooting the system, including all connections, conduits, the main capacitor, etc. He (and I) were stumped. He called the electrical contractor, who instantly identified the sound as a normal sound when the system's load spikes as it turns on - and our bed was right above where the conduit ran. Still, no charge from Reidy. We were happy with the price, service and followup!

Great people to work with. They listened to my request for information about my options, provided the information and answered my questions. Other companies gave the information they wanted to, and brushed aside my questions. When they came, they did the job professionally, competently and left with the cellar cleaner than when they started. I plan upon using their services for annual maintainance.

Overall, in a word: it went BADLY. The long and complicated tale is as follows. Fall 2010: With our upstairs A/C unit not working, we called Reidy Heating and Cooling for service (we were under the mistaken impression that this company had installed our unit in 2000; it was apparently done by the brother, who had since left the area). This consisted of cleaning and inspection of both A/C units, blowing out clogged drain lines in upstairs unit (both the a/c pan and the aux pan were full of water and rust), and replacing thermostat for the upstairs unit. Technician A used a non-programmable thermostat ($130.77) that did not match the paint borders of the original thermostat, which should have been my first clue about this company (even their website touts the importance of a programmable thermostat for energy savings). The A/C unit was little used in November through May, as we are in New England. The technician wrote on the invoice that the pressures and temperatures were checked and functional. Cost of visit was approx $380. Spring 2011: Again, our upstairs A/C stopped working. Thinking it may be related to the initial work by Reidy Heating and Cooling, we reluctantly called them in again. The technician arrived 6/10/2011 and ($225 later) repeated the fall diagnosis: the drain lines were plugged and the pans were full of rust and water. This time he explained that the pans were sufficiently rusted out that they would require replacement. Apparently, the initial installation had not utilized an adequate drainage mechanism. Because we thought Reidy had installed the system, we expressed our concern about this diagnosis, concerned that their initial install had resulted in the current (expensive) problem. The owner/president, Roger Reidy, Jr., arrived to inspect the unit and explained that his brother must have installed it (different Reidy, see above), and confirmed his technician's diagnosis. He acknowledged that the thermostat install was sub-standard and offered to replace it. At this point, I had spent over $600 to diagnose the needed repair. Given that, and the heat upstairs, I bit the bullet and scheduled the work. Summer 2011: On 7/11/11, the upstairs A/C main and auxiliary evaporation pans were replaced by Technician B and a and ldquo;helper.and rdquo; Given the inadequate piping for drainage, the technician recommended running the drainage pipe out the side of the attic, to allow the water to drip down onto the roof. This would save the re-piping of the drainage down through the walls to the basement. I concurred, but have since noticed that the dripping water has worn through the stain on the siding where it strikes the roof. Not ideal. And the thermostat was not replaced (and has not been, to this day). The charge for that work was $771, which I paid. Total cost for diagnosis and installation was approximately $1400. On 7/12/11, the upstairs A/C was not producing any cool air. Naturally, I connected this to the installation of the pans the day before. I called Reidy again, expecting them to adjust their work, and they sent a technician out on 7/16/11. Technician C reported and ldquo;system had restriction.and rdquo; He cut out liquid line drier and re-piped. Following that service, the A/C was cooling but refrigerant lines were emitting a loud surging/boiling noise. The technician, a nice and seemingly competent man, was shaking his head during the repair and implied that something must have happened in the install. My wife signed the work order at the end of the visit, marking that and ldquo; We are assuming that this is a no charge visit.and rdquo; The eventual charge for that visit was $702. On 7/ 27/11, Technician D responded to our call that the system was noisy. He acknowledged the noises but and ldquo;found the unit running properly.and rdquo; He manipulated the R22 amounts to change the charge, hoping to address the noise. Unable to do so with and ldquo;overchargingand rdquo; the system, he recommended the installation of a TX valve. The eventual charge for that visit was $288, and the noise remained. Early in August, I received invoices for the follow up visits, totaling $990. One of them stated in bold letters the following: and ldquo; This repair was not related to inside work on the drain pan. This repair was from the refrigerant side of the unit.and rdquo; I am not a HVAC tech, but this was baffling to me, as the noise began after the 7/27 and ldquo;repairand rdquo; work, which followed the 7/16 visit to address the lack of cooling after the 7/11 install. In addition, there was no repair, only a recommendation for further work (and expense). The invoice also stated that and ldquo;System would have been over charge prior to us thereby over compensating to buffet noise of gas in system.and rdquo; Again, this was baffling to me. The $380 maintenance visit eight months prior had checked temperatures and pressures and found them and ldquo;functional.and rdquo; Follow up: Since that time, following the receipt of the invoices, I have communicated with the President of Reidy Heating and Cooling, Roger Reidy, Jr., several times. He insists that the two follow up visits were entirely unrelated to the work finished the day before the problems started. He has been unable to explain to me the nature of the problem with the blocked filter and the surging/boiling noises in the lines. He maintains that, like with a car, you can have one system fixed and a day later, another system can default. He maintains that installing an expansion valve will fix the problem, though what went wrong after 11 years of consistent, trouble-free service remains unexplained. I explained that I would seek a second opinion, to which he agreed. I had another company look at the system some weeks after the discussions commenced (see below). Throughout these conversations, Mr. Reidy evidenced no concern that the job remained unfinished, nor that his $1400 customer was dissatisfied. His solitary concern was settling the bill. In our final strained conversation, I agreed that I would give him the courtesy of a call upon getting the second opinion. Having learned my lesson, I went to Angie's List for a reputable, highly-rated provider. That 9/30/11 visit (for a fixed rate of approximately $100) resulted in a recommendation to flush the system with nitrogen, triple evacuate the lines, and install a filter drier; the work could not been done reliably until hot weather. I spent another $609 for a series of visits beginning on 6/1/12, during which the new provider sent a competent, committed technician with 25 years experience to repair the problem. Convinced it was a block in the refrigerant line, the technician repeatedly flushed the system (and re-installed a line drier). The noise continued (the pressures and temperatures were within standard). Consultation with the Service Manager of the company resulted in my situation being presented to the large staff of experienced technicians on 6/26/2012. Not one of them could explain the central problem causing the noise. Before I could call Mr. Reidy to explain these findings, he sent a certified letter demanding payment within 10 days, stating that I had had and ldquo;ample time to supply us in writing your claim in [sic] how we were in error with your equipment issueand rdquo;. The letter ends with and ldquo;unless you contact us with information to support you [sic] claims and payment or payment terms within 10 days of receipt of this letter will [sic] have no choice but to place the entire matter into collection.and rdquo; Interestingly, he is demanding a diagnosis AND payment; this makes clear where his collaborative stance lies. Despite the letter, I did call Mr. Reidy twice to explain the findings, received no return call, and so followed up with an email upon suggestion of the receptionist. I received no answer to that email. I am following up with a letter. I maintained in that email that the responsibility is his to explain in a satisfactory matter how problems that started the day after his company's work are totally unrelated to that work. As neither Reidy Heating and Cooling, nor the firm I consulted, has been able to explain the nature of the problem, I am continuing to refuse payment. It is emblematic of the and ldquo;customer serviceand rdquo; approach taken by this company that Mr. Reidy insists that I provide the explanation, and not the $100/hr. technicians he dispatched to complete the job in a professional and competent manner. Also telling is the fact that, not once has Mr. Reidy said and ldquo; What can I do to make this right?and rdquo; or and ldquo; How can I help to resolve your problem with the A/C unit?and rdquo; Instead, I've encountered his stance that my logic is faulty, I don't understand the system, I can't provide a diagnosis of the problem, and the bill must be paid. At this point, as a matter of principal, I will continue to refuse to pay the $990 diagnostic charges. Frankly, I would rather pay my attorney these fees to contest the matter than to support this process or Reidy Heating and Cooling in any way. Should I be forced to follow that path, I will explore my options to recoup the fees to the second company as well.
Description of Work: Fall 2010: 10/15/10: Upstairs zone A/C not kicking on. Technician A performed maintenance/service. Specific to the failure to start, the technician drained water from evaporation pans, blew out drain lines, and replaced thermostat. Pressures and temperatures were within standard at that time. Spring 2011: 6/15/11: Again, upstairs zone A/C not kicking on. Technician B drained water from evaporation pans, blew out drain lines, and stated that the rusted pans needed replacement. Cause of rust was sitting water due to initial installation of improper drainage mechanism. Summer 2011: 7/11/11: Evaporative pans (primary and auxiliary) replaced by Technician B. 7/12/11: A/C not cooling; called for service. 7/16/11: Technician C reported “system had restriction.” He cut out liquid line drier and re-piped. Following that service, the A/C was cooling but refrigerant lines were emitting a loud surging/boiling noise. 7/ 27/11: Technician D acknowledged the noises but “found the unit running properly.” He manipulated the R22 amounts to change the charge, hoping to address the noise. Unable to do so with “overcharging” the system, he recommended the installation of a TX valve.

These guys replaced half a dozen parts and did all sorts of unnecessary service for what turned out to be a bird's nest in the chimney. I am digusted that I fell for their incompetence. At best it was incompetence - at worst, just a rip off. They "fixed" the problem for $350 and were back a month later when the furnace (again) and condensate pumped mysteriously stopped working. They re-routed, replaced, absolutely insisted that several parts miraculously all broke at the same time. When they finally find the real problem they charged me another $800 to fix it. I have never felt so ripped off. This was 5 year old furnace in a five year old house that had worked perfectly up until that point.

Responded for emergency call, when we had no heat. Even though it was a weekend, it was a very fair price. We had paid twice that much to a service company a few hours earlier, only to be told they couldn't fix it, and they were wrong about what the problem was. Since installation, the burner has failed 29 times and has never been reliably functional. Riedy has made several attempts to correct the problem without success. I have made multiple requests to get tech service involved, Riedy has refused. Riedy now refuses to respond to requests for support and troubleshooting. Obviously, Reidy installed an inferior burner.
