Major communication breakdown: I was raising the floor of my attic to accommodate R60. Energia saw the attic and told me adding a layer of 2x6s would be sufficient. It took a long time to rip up the floor by myself and haul many 2x6s up to the attic. So the insulation was added, and after the fact, I found out that Energia had assumed 10 inches of space existed under the old joists. Long story short, I have R38. I needed to use 2x10s instead. Lots of work on the idea that Energia knew what their stuff. Minor chunk taken out of the window sill from hauling the blower into the attic. Just unnecessary if you have workers who care about clients. Knocked over a bottle of bleach, lid came off. Mass Save inspectors found the polyiso board under the kitchen addition needed the seams taped so they will have to come back. I'm sure they are capable but just careless. The attic cellulose looks good as does the polyiso in the basement. They weren't terrible by any means. But why go with people who are too busy to be more careful and to properly advise on such a significant piece of work (raising the floor)?
Description of Work: Installed cellulose in the attic, polyiso board under the kitchen addition and in the basement around the joists, door sweeps, polyiso on attic door - through the Mass Save program

We purchased an old house recognizing it needed insulation. When the walls were removed, it became obvious that this was not going to be an easy job to do. I was convinced that I didn't want foam, but when we got the estimate for cellulose and realized what was involved with installing it, I started looking at alternatives. Reading positive reviews about Energia and getting a recommendation from a contractor that does not use foam, I contacted them. My first contact was with Tom, the CEO who was extremely helpful. Mark then visited our home. I spent well over an hour asking him questions about his product that is 70 percent less toxic than the older product. He explained in detail their process, the protocol that is used, how the installers and trained and also how they recruit and treat them. I was impressed and we agreed to have them install foam into the walls of one room. Impressed with them, during the process we decided to also have them foam crawl spaces in the basement (some were only 3 feet tall and they were on their stomachs doing the work. Even though they were difficult areas, there were no complaints and the work was done with professionalism. Tommy and his crew were great. The entire crew had amazing ability to deal with the consumer and explain what was occurring throughout the process. After they left my contractor noticed an area where the insulation was thicker than the guys installing wall board liked. I emailed Ben and he had a crew at the house the next morning. Again the crew lead by Angel were great. They were clear that they wanted me to be a satisfied customer. We certainly are.
Description of Work: Sprayed foam insulation in several extremely difficult spaces over the course of three days.

I found them through Mass Save. The cost was covered by the Mass Save program, and there was one thing that I had to pay for and that was $11. They did a whole lot of work. They were fine.
Description of Work: We used Energia LLC. They blew in a whole bunch of insulation in our attic. The improved the ceiling. They built it up in the attic. It helped with heat escaping.

All summer, we spoke, got an estimate, paid for our service (about $200. to coordinate the project) etc. and were supposed to also get a gas line to the house. When the installation or the gas line fell through, we never heard from Energia again. We wanted insulation in spite of the fact that we would not receive the gas discount. WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Description of Work: They were supposed to provide us with insulation throughout the house.

Response from Energia, LLC
We provided a free estimate for insulation and informed them that if they had natural gas at the property that there could be incentives available through the gas utility of 75% up to $2,000 and free air sealing. I mentioned that we were only an insulation company but upon their insistence I agreed to help assist in seeing if the gas line was feasible and spent many hours coordinating with a plumber and the municipal gas company. The cost for the gas line extension turned out to be prohibitive and we only invoiced for a couple hours of our time. The estimate for insulation was still valid and I even sent it again. This couple was very nice and I am very sorry they are unhappy but we never did any installation work for them.

The company is super polite, skilled, and knowledgeable. The auditor was very technical but explained everything he was doing and what the results were very clearly. He was there a good 3 hours and so was able to be super thorough. The audit was paid for by National Grid through the Mass Save program, but you can call Energia directly to request that they do the audit. For the insulation, I contracted with Energia too rather than call Mass Save to get the work done. Mass Save pays for 75% of the insulation, and air sealing is free (sealing up leakage holes to the outside). The crew arrived promptly at the allotted time and went right to work while I proceeded to move things out of their way. When I returned at the end of the day the work they did was really neat, and the basement was super clean - way cleaner than how I left it. I called the director, Tom, the next day to give them praise, and ended up learning a lot about what grants were available for solar electric panels.
Description of Work: Insulated my basement band joists and framed wall.
