Description of Work: The rep who did the estimate and with whom I interfaced primarily was great. Very professional, courteous, responsive, etc. It was the consistency of the work that was not so great. We had a mix of open- and closed-cell foam, blown-in fiberglass and fiberglass batts for our renovation project that involved both old and new construction areas. The foam went pretty well, with only a missed spot or two. The blown-in missed some areas -- one of which I called to their attention while they were here and a couple of others I found on my own much later. Also, the plastic sheets they put up as a wind/vapor barrier (the blown-in was all done from the inside, with exposed wall bays) was very sloppy in some places. I had to shore up a few spots. They missed a few spots with the "Great Stuff" type expanding filler foam (typically used around windows and doors and any little spots that need filling), and there were a few windows and doors whose action got unacceptably tight due to this foam's expansion around the window/door jambs. I had some carpenters who were working here on other projects remove that stuff, and I replaced it with special, non-expanding window and door "Great Stuff". Finally, there were several instances of the main insulation foam dripping onto the new roof shingles and new vinyl siding. I had a painter who was working here clean up what he could. Collins recommended a particular caulk remover for the rest, which I'm working on myself. | |They were very responsive when I had a question or concern, and they reimbursed me for my clean-up and repair expenses. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, some issues still got through. I've got to wonder what details might have been missed that I haven't yet come across or may never discover. But, then, I guess that's the risk that goes along with any such service provider's work. :\

Their representative was very polite, friendly, reasonable and helpful. He provided three different quotes (good, better, best); it was nice to see the options and have a choice. We made two other calls for quotes, from which we got one other quote (the third service provider we called never called us back). It was clear that the other service provider who quoted the job was the 'budget' guy, and Collins was the comprehensive 'do it right' guy. We ended up going with the 'best' option, thinking it was a good investment toward future energy savings: a combination of open- and closed-cell foam (primarily in old and new rafters, plus basement rim joist and various areas that needed spot treatment), blown-in fiberglass (old construction exterior walls), fiberglass batts (new construction walls and basement ceiling) and fiberglass batts with Thermax rigid board (top-floor ceilings). Collins was easy-going as far as waiting to schedule the job while we got the house ready for them (big renovation project), and then they were expedient once they got started. We did have a few issues: there were a few spots where the foam insulation dripped through soffit vents onto roof shingles and vinyl siding. It was not an easy clean-up. I had my house painter do some of the clean-up. My carpenter did some work to the soffits; the vents were not really cleanable. The rest of the cleanup is being done by me, using a specific 'gunk remover' recommended by Collins. Another problem was that following their work a few windows were tight and difficult to open and close, due to expansion of the 'Great Stuff'-type foam that Collins had used to fill in the gaps around the windows. I had my carpenter clean out those gaps to restore normal window operation. I still need to fill those gaps in again with something. I may try Great Stuff again or just stuff some fiberglass in there. Finally, there were a few details of the work that I thought weren't up to snuff. When I raised my concerns about these details, Collins sent their team back to make things right. And to their credit, they asked me to get pricing for all of the cleanup and other fixes that I'd had to address following their work, and they reimbursed me without issue. Being a bit picky on professionalism (I have my own business), my only beefs are that these issues happened at all, and that there was no actual apology after the fact. Maybe I'm too picky. As I said, they had no problem coming back to address my initial concerns and reimbursing me for the needed repairs. We also bought two garage doors and garage door openers from Collins for our newly-build garage. All went well on that front. Collins also gave us the option to finance nearly all of the cost for both the insulation and garage door stuff through GE Capital at no interest for a full year. This was very helpful as we were budgeting our overall renovation project.
Description of Work: Collins insulated our entire house, which was a combination of old and new construction (1875 Northeast farmhouse with two-story addition on one side), none of which had been insulated to-date.

They arrived at 1:00 pm and left at around 4:30pm cleaned up after themselves and were courteous.
Description of Work: Installed vents over my soffit vents to insure proper ventilation of the attic after insulation was blown in and set up wall around my air conditioner unit to keep clear of insulation. Then blew in 19" of insulation.

Overall, I am completely satisfied with the work that was done.
Description of Work: Collins Insulation put additional insulation in my attic. When they came to look over the project, they explained in detail what they would do, and the fact the cost was contingent upon the amount of insulation that would be necessary to achieve the R value I would select . It had been many years since any insulation had been blown in the attic space, and it had been disturbed several times as I had assorted projects done, such as the installation of central air conditioning requiring ductwork etc. I opted for an R45 rating. On the agreed upon day, they arrived EARLY and didn't waste any time. It was a rainy day and they carefully put down plastic sheeting inside the entrance to the house all the way through the area leading up to the attic. When they finished the job, I was offered a 'tour'... The purpose of the project was to reduce my heating bills, but they also covered the A/C ductwork with insulation, and that included a 'pad' of insulation attached to the panel on the ceiling leading to the attic so there are no 'gaps' in the insulation so to speak. While the proof will come in the winter, I have already noticed a difference in my A/C system! It is running less and it is much quieter to achieve the same level of comfort in the house. So far, I am extremely satisfied with this project. I guess I didn't respond to your query because I felt it was rather early to pass judgement, but with the latest heatwave, I seem to be already reaping benefits of this climate control project!

They were great and wonderful. They are a multistate corporation company. They had a crew in Chicopee who was doing part of what the job entailed. They had other crew members who were coming out of Connecticut. The sales representative also supervised the job. My overall experience with them was wonderful. They did what they said they were going to do. They kept the work site clean. The guys came when they said they were going to come. The work was done and they billed and accepted the payment in a businesslike fashion. The price was totally reasonable. We had hoped to use some kind of fancy green and we couldn?t afford any of the ultra green options. Apparently the new fashioned fiberglass is a whole lot better than what we had expected. It didn?t leave little itchy things flying around in the air. It was just terrific.
Description of Work: We used Collins Insulation for insulation work in March. They put in the fiberglass insulation and they sealed all the air gap places with the foamy stuff. They also blew in the insulation.
