Nicholson Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning Inc

We signed up for Nicholson's plumbing and heating maintenance plans after a positive experiences using this company for several home improvements last year. We have a new construction home with a high efficiency furnace and a Navien tankless water heater; two appliances we are new to having that require regular tuneups to assure that they work when you need them to. Ryan, the plumber they sent, (we had Brandon last year) was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He addressed concerns we had and taught us a thing or two about our plumbing as well as tweaking issues the builder's plumber left for us that weren't picked up on by town inspectors. We feel that we made a good decision signing up for maintenance plans with this company irregardless of how they compare price-wise with other companies' maintenance plans.

The customer service, and the plumber, were very prompt and professional. They would not provide a price estimate over the phone, which is understandable, so we had to pay $55 for an in-home estimate. We decided not to go with Nicholson because the price was 4x higher than other plumbers. They quoted us $931 with the extra service they recommended or >$800 with just the re-hook up. We ended up going with a different plumber, who did the whole thing (minus the extras that Nicholson had recommended) in about 2 hours for $200. Again, they couldn't have been any nicer or more responsive - they were just very expensive.

Excellent service and communication was great throughout the process.

It was a big disappointment. He charged me more money than I expected and really did very little and said that I really should have $1000 or $2000 of work done. I said, "No thanks. Goodbye." I called in somebody else, who did the whole thing in less than an hour and made things much easier. They wanted to do redo the whole plumbing underneath the sink. They never fixed the plunger properly. They fixed it so it either stayed open all the time or stayed close all the time. The guy who came in after them fixed it in 5 minutes and it worked fine. I'm not happy with them. I paid $55 over and above. If someone doesn't do the job, it doesn't seem like they're very professional.

They have something they call a Home Owners contract. So twice a year, they come out and check stuff out in your house for plumbing. They took care of the faucets in the kids bathroom, but in our bathroom, we have brass ones and they could not get the part for it. Those were put in 15 years ago. So they were having trouble getting the part. They loved us to go get the part, which was fine because we have some other avenues that we could use. We got a part. We have just not called them back, to get them to come out here. We had trouble getting the part. The supplier said that it might not be the original part and that he didn't think it was the same one that was broken. Anyway, we're still in flux on that. We had a problem with the heater. Where the condensate drips down into the pan on our furnace, it was shorting out. So the furnace wasn't turning on. It was kind of semi turning on. They had to come out and fix that. It was a manufacturing problem. They didn't manufacture it correctly. So the first time they got it fixed, it still ended up with condensate coming back in there. The contractor that they sent out to do it, it was actually his last day on the job. So it wasn't a bang-up job. Then they sent somebody else out to re-fix it. We did eventually get that fixed. Every other thing I've had done with them, I've really liked everything. This one, not so much. With the furnace repair, they charged us when they didn't fix it correctly the first time. We got charged again for the second fix. So I was not happy with that. It should not have taken three times of coming out here to get it fixed. They had somebody out here as soon as we called them. It was a very busy time for them because that was when all of the furnaces were starting to kick on in the area. Especially the third time, I know they pulled a guy off one job and sent him over to us. They are always on time, if not 10 minutes early.

Our furnace broke unexpectedly over the weekend. The company was very responsive to our immediate need. They came and replaced the capacitor quickly.

I called Nicholson based on the good reviews on Angies' List. Our heat upstairs sometimes blew cold air, sometimes hot air. The office person was efficient with arranging for an appointment. The first technician came, charged $75 diagnostic fee, but couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then the second person came, still couldn't find out the cause, and did not charge anything. The problem was still there. I called again. The third technician came. We told me (based on our own observation) that the third pilot runner could not ignite. So he adjusted the gas pressure by turning the valve. Charged $149. However, the cold air came again. So I called again the next day and the last technician came and adjusted the gas valve again. Didn't charge anything. That was in December. Then, cold air came again. I was getting really frustrated, but had to call again. The office staff quickly scheduled an appointment for the next day. I specifically asked if I would have to pay and was told that unless the technician found any new issues unrelated to what was found before, I didn't have to pay because I was still covered under 1-year warranty. However, the next day, when the technician came, the first thing he told me was that whether he could find anything or not, I would have to pay $75 diagnostic fee again, just for him to come out and take a look. He also said the warranty only covers a month and since the last service was done over a month ago and I don't have a service plan, I would need to pay upfront this time. This was so different from what I was told on the phone. I decided not to keep paying and not fixing the problem. Very unhappy and dissatisfied with the service and how they keep charging.

The technician was punctual, friendly, and very professional. He gave me a range of options for fixing the problem with my toilet and the performed the work quickly and efficiently.

I believe we had a miscommunication. The job I had was a small job and realized the company did not have an appropriate pricing model for such a small job. They were understanding enough not to charge me a 'visit' fee because it was a Big Deal.

This Tuesday evening, the heat in my house went out. I called the company that had previously serviced our HVAC system, but was told they couldn't see me until the next morning. I called a second company, who told me the same. My next call was to Nicholson. I was told that a tech would call me back in minutes. A couple of minutes later, I received a call from Mike Nicholson, the owner, who told me that he'd be out to my house in about an hour, which he was. Unfortunately, there was no quick fix for our situation, but Mike said he'd check to see if the unit was still under warranty and call us in the morning; he also took the time to explain and show us what the problem was. Promptly the next morning (Wednesday), Mike called us back. Again, no luck with the warranty, but he fully explained the options we had for a new furnace. We went with one of them, but it couldn't get installed until Thursday morning. So Mike brought us over a bunch of space heaters to use for the night so we could stay warm. I don't know if this is common practice for this type of service, but it certainly stood out to us as a very customer friendly thing to do. Promptly the next morning, Jeff M and Jimmy were over to install the new unit. They did terrific work! Jeff answered questions, gave an excellent overview of what they were doing as well as what they had installed, and left the area cleaner than when they started their work. Over the course of their time doing the installation, Mike again came over to make sure things were going smoothly. We cannot recommend Nicholson Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning enough. They were EXCELLENT!

Heating system stopped working, my check up on the boiler found a burning smell. I figured out the Zone Valve had burnt out so could no longer regulate room temperature. Just had a choice, full on / off. Called Nicholson, and they fitted me in the following morning. Tech was thorough, inspected system, and laid out what it would take to fix it. Was able to apply an Angies list voucher to bring down cost and also signed up for a service plan, which is a wash since it came with a 10% reduction on the cost of the repair - so now I get a future service near enough for free. Overall, I find Nicholson a bit expensive....but they are very professional and work is of high quality, so I suppose it is better to pay a bit more to get it done right first time. Appreciate the prompt response also.

Nicholson has proven to be courteous, prompt and competent. We scheduled routine service. They called and ended up scheduling earlier due to a cancellation. They did a great job, and we signed up for their annual maintenance plan.

Gracious, friendly and professional & got the part that was needed faster than originally thought

All they said we needed was a toilette flapper but they wanted to rebuild the whole toilette valve mechanism for $383.00 because "it was eventually going to go". They refused to replace the flapper even though we paid the $55 service charge which the company said, over the phone, they would apply towards a repair. My husband overheard the workers talking about the chemical buildup on the flapper so my husband cleaned up the flapper and the toilette works.

Overall the job was done well and the company was very responsive. Although pricey, it is for their responsiveness that I would use them again. I hired them for a leaking bathroom faucet in our condo. It was old and because it's a condo I did not want to get into a major problem tackling it myself. At first, the techs thought they could just replace the cartridges in the faucet but the part was not available. They went to a local supplier and picked up a new faucet and installed it same day. I appreciated the fact that the company was responsive and it looks like they will come for any job big or small. I've found that in the past some plumbers only want to come out for the big jobs. You pay more but the job gets done.

The work is good, the part price is high, compare the same part if I ordered from HomeDepot

The service provided went great. A very nice young man named Brandon came and fixed the improperly installed leaking toilet. He was very nice and said that we did not do a bad job at all. We had an extra ring which was causing the leak.

They said that they would send a tech and the cost would be a min of $250, which was fine with us given our need. The tech called a bit later and said that basically he could come out late that evening (several hours after the call) but as the part stores were closed would likely not be able to do anything. He suggested instead an early AM appt the next morning. We agreed and made arrangements to sleep elsewhere. The next morning the tech did not show up when we had planned. I called him and he told me that he was now running several hours behind, but could be out late afternoon. This was frustrating since the reason he put us off the night before was to allow him to go to a parts store on Sat AM if needed (stores close at 1). I recognize that work gets backed up, but the professional thing would have been to call and give me the heads up so I could arrange another emergency option if needed. At the time that we learned that he would not be out, it was already near mid-day. He offered space heaters to get us to Monday, which was not an acceptable option for us. I had used Nicholson before for routine maintenance and had a good experience, but now will not be coming back with our business in the future.

I am very pleased with the service. The owner Mike came to my house to assess the situation and offered options. The workmen , Jeff and Jimmy, were punctual, hard working and personable. The contact person at the company, Heather, was efficient and knowledgeable. She even prepared the paperwork needed for rebates I was entitled to.

I called them because attic furnace was inoperable and was 15 years old. Mike Nicholson was at my door within two business days and carefully assessed the situation. He listened to my concerns and explained all my options without any "hard sell". I was given a choice of what manufacturer and what model that I wanted to purchase. He called that day and set up an installation for the following week. Two technicians came out and did the installation in two days. Jeff M and Jimmy were very effecient and took care that all floors were covered before any work was started and explained the process to me. They worked well together and when they finished they cleaned up and made sure everything was in working order. The process continued with receiving the final invoice (for rebate) and the registration forms for the warranty. This was handled by their office to which I especially want to give thanks for their promptness and professionalism (especially, Heather) who always returns my phone calls (with answers). I actually have a second furnace for which I will be using Nicholson for a maintenance contract. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a new furnace, A/C unit or a maintenance contract.

Great experience! Mr. Hill the plumber called me to let me know that he was running ahead of the schedule and if it would be fine to come early. I was at another appointment and together we agreed on a mutually convenient time. He came in and assess the problem and explained what he would do to fix it and got my approval to go ahead. I used a deal from Angie's list and paid $9.00 extra. Mr. Hill worked quickly and call me to check his work. He even took a look at another "project" in my bathroom and gave me suggestions on how to go about it. Mr. Hill was very professional and knowledgeable. Fantastic job. They rearranged schedules and said they would be here between 12 and 2. Rick actually showed up at 10:30. Very professional, polite and courteous. Installed new 40 gallon heater and removed the old one. A real pleasure to do business with Nicholson

We wanted a quote on installing 3 news toilets, vent cleaning, and a few minor leaks. THe quote seemed extremely high and it did not have specifics such as the exact toilets. So I called another plumber, and within 5 minutes on the phone had specifics, and for 35% LESS. As my wife was explaining that she still wanted the coupon to be used towards cleaning the dryer vents, the plumbers were telling here that they would need to come back another time, but it seemed quite obvious that they did NOT want to waste their time with the job. We ended up using another plumbing service, they did a fantastic job and we saved over $1000.

My kitchen sink was draining slowly and I could not get a powered snake through the P trap so I suspected thats were the clog was. I called Nicholson Plumbing and made an appointment. Their tech, Steve, showed up on time and was very professional. After a visual inspection of the piping under the kitchen sink and in the basement and hearing what I had tried so far, Steve offered the following: Removing the garbage disposer and trying to snake through the P trap for $345. If that didnt work, he would try to removing the P trap and running the snake for $420 ($75 more). Finally, if that didnt work, he would also try an "industrial Auger" for $535 ($85 more). He also offered to replace the trap with a union trap which I can remove and clean myself in the future. Steve ended up having to cut and remove the trap in order to clean it and run the snake. I chose to have it replaced with a union trap so the total came to $505. Minus the $40 discount I got by buying the $99 coupon my net cost was $465. Steve seemed very knowledgeable and his work was of excellent quality and clean. I would trust him with my home plumbing any time. Given the price of a P-trap is less than $10, I think $505 seems steep for replacing a P trap and running the Auger through the pipe. Great service otherwise. _Carlos

Overall, I was very happy with the work performed. Jeff the plumber was knowledgeable and very helpful in pointing out the issue with the toilet. He even went further to identify other plumbing work I may want to consider fixing in the near future. I will definitely consider using this vendor for future plumbing needs.
