My downstairs bathroom toilet started to back up and drain slowly a day before Thanksgiving and knowing that I would have over 20 people in our home on the holiday, was understandably concerned. Called around but Harry was the most informative, friendly, professional and direct. Listened, then asked clarifying questions and then assessed that he would send his sons. He "re-routed" them and they were at my home in inside of 90 min. While there, they were professional, courteous, effective and plain nice. My wife was thrilled at the experience and have resolved the issue. This sort of service was worth every single penny. 2.5 hours after the call, I can stress about a menu rather than an overflowing toilet. You've earned a new repeat customer and thank you!

I left a message and within 5 minutes Harry called me back. When I described to him that another septic company had told me my tank was leaking, he gave me a great explanation of how the system worked, what to look for and what to do and not do. Harry spent a good amount of time on the phone with me answering my questions even though he doesn't service my town and doesn't do tank replacements. He also gave me a referral to another provider that does service my area and would give me an honest opinion as to whether any work needed to be done. If Holliston Sewer Service did service my town, I would absolutely use them and work with Harry. I was very impressed with his responsiveness and honesty even though he couldn't service my area or do this type of work.

Matt from Holliston Sewer Service was right on time. Located and dug out our tank, pumped it out, oriented me to the system (first time we've had the system pumped since moving to house), restored ground above tank hatch neatly, and provided helpful guidance about how often to have it pumped in the future. Good service - we'll use them again.

visit went perfect, Harry was there quicker than expected, and he remembered from my last visit exactly the setup of where the covers are buried and that my irrigation line is there too!
Description of Work: Septic was pumped and the line to the house was snaked because we had a clog. This has happened to us before so we knew right away to call Harry. He showed up 10 minutes after my call and unclogged it while so we could have normal system use until his guy came later to pump out the tank since it was open and due for service anyway. Done and done by 11:00am. This is the third time we have used Holliston Sewer and would recommend his service.

It went well on the service day, but he billed whatever he wants regardless of his initial quite. It was Awful and terrible arguments with him regarding the dispute in Billing. We want other people not to be taken advantage of.
Description of Work: My service was done on March 31, and I wrote my review on April 2, 2017 reporting the pump out cost was $310. Then, I just wanted to correct my review after my original A review hoping someone else won't be taken advantage of. Be careful with his billing after service. Harry mailed us $970 bill in June. I called him if he made any mistake in billing, and he answered "No one questions the billing amount but just pay it" and I said you quoted $310, and it is 3 times more than the initial quote. and he said he did additional services $500 and pump cost also needs to increase to $470. I said I was not informed of those at all in advance so you cannot charge me, he threatened me to go to court to make me pay as he billed. I tried to meet in the middle since all dispute cannot be one side only fault, but he insisted we pay $970.

Response from Holliston Sewer Service Inc
I’d like to clear things up. When we first spoke, you requested a standard pumping for a 1500 gallon tank, and the standard rate for pumping a 1500 gallon tank is $310. This quote is the original price I gave you before you informed me that your alarm was going off - after which point I informed you that a pump issue changes the situation entirely. After you mentioned the alarm was going off, I replied that pumping the tank will not correct the alarm problem. Right away, I came to your house and found your pump was not running. At that point, I explained to you and your husband that to install a new pump and empty the pump chamber would total anywhere from $2000-$2500 dollars depending on the size of the pump that your system has. I said to expect the worst, but hope for the best and hopefully the damage to your pump chamber would not require $2500 worth of service. Every pump size is different - for example, I service all of your neighbors, and they all have different pump sizes. Therefore, I can’t quote an exact price until I see the pump and the damage. Hence, why I give an estimate, which I explained to you and your husband in the basement of your house. When my employee, who is OSHA confined space certified, got into the pump chamber, the first thing we checked were the wire connections. Come to find out, your wire connections were corroded. We re-did all of your wire connections, thus getting your pump to run. At that point, we explained that with the pump chamber being empty, the pump was running but we couldn’t test to see if it was strong enough to pump the water up to the leech field (as there was no water in the tank because my employee was in it). At that point, I explained (over the phone) that we will wait 1-2 months until the pump chamber fills up enough to see if the pump is functional. If the alarm goes off we know the pump is not working. If the alarm doesn’t go off then we know it was a simple issue with wires. After 2 months, I called the water department and got your readings for the past months. They totaled roughly 3,000 gallons. This means that your pump has pumped 3 or 4 cycles so I knew at that point that the pump was moving the water to the leech field. Then, I sent you a bill for the following: 1. Re-doing the wire connection & confined space and labor - $500 2. Pumping the 1500 gallon septic tank - $310 3. Pumping the 1000 gallon pump chamber - $160 In your original (and since deleted) “A” rating Angie’s List review, you stated: “I called them because the septic box’s high water alarm went on and I thought once the septic tank gets empty, it will be okay. Harry explained the high water alarm is nothing to do with the tank full with several other scenarios, so he checked the box first thing next morning promptly before deciding anything further. Though the weather got worse, they quickly emptied the tank and went down literally the inside tank to check the pump’s status. Though they could tell me the pump must be changed, they told me it could work longer. I appreciate their honesty and kind explanation on what is going on. For pump price, I could see some people paid lower, but considering our tank must be bigger than average, it must be fair” (April 2, 2017). It appears to me that based on your first review, you understood the potential cost of $2000-$2500, what our services entailed, as well as our honest, fast, and professional service. As you mentioned, your bill ended up being $970. This is, obviously, less than the $2000-$2500 estimate I gave you and your husband after learning of your pump issue. The pump problem took our standard pumping fee of $310 (the price you keep mentioning) and increased it to include the maximum potential pump services — which your pump did not need, I did not charge you for, and you mentioned my honesty regarding your pump. So, the bill you received 2 months after the original service and after I followed up on your water bill is less than the price we discussed prior to my knowing the extent of your pump issue. I would also never say “no one questions the billing amount just pay it”. None of my thousands of customers would believe I ever said that. I hope my explanation clears up your confusion. Lastly, I want to stress that I take my business seriously. Of course, I want to receive compensation for my work. More importantly, though, I would like to maintain the stellar reputation that Holliston Sewer Service, Inc. has had since 1954. -Harry
