The experience was mixed feelings. They did a nice job moving but there were a lot of damage to some furniture. But they made good on it. I was able to resolve the issue with the company. It is a small company. The owner was very responsive and was accepting of the damaged that happened to my stuff. We had good personal service from the owner. The movers themselves were very pleasant. I think the damage took place while are stuff was on storage. We had it on storage for nine months with them. Their storage facility was actually very nice. We looked at a lot of moving companies and that was our main concern because was that they have everything in storage. Their warehouse was dry and well maintained. The price was good. Everything went well except that during the storage, the most expensive piece of furniture we have got damaged. It was not a lot of damage, it was just that the cost was pretty high. The cost was just for moving, the storage was more than that.

On May 30, 2013 I hired Rosengard Movers to move me from my old 4 story townhouse condominium in Haverhill, MA to my new first floor condominium in Methuen, MA. A week before the move the owner, Peter Rosengard came to my home and looked over all four floors. We discussed the two major difficulties: I am handicapped and have a stairlift on my front stairs and I had a substantial amount of stuff in the fourth floor loft which is reached via a spiral staircase. He gave me a rough estimate of $700 and said that was assuming I got my own boxes and did my own packing. He explained a formula where they charge for packing by the box depending on the size of the box. The estimate included the movers packing the kitchen glassware and putting hanging clothing in bedroom closets in wardrobes. Two days before the move I called Peter Rosengard to inform him that I was having trouble packing and would need assistance from the movers. I understood that this would increase the cost but he did not give me a revised estimate. A three man moving crew showed up on time. A fourth man worked in the afternoon and for a brief time there was a fifth man. I went through the house with the foreman. He assured me that he would remember my instructions on what was moving and what was staying but he took no notes. I am handicapped and have difficulty climbing stairs and standing. I was not able to supervise the activity on the various floors. I pointed out an old computer that was not supposed to go, as well as two inoperable printers. They moved the old computer that was supposed to stay as well as a printer that was supposed to stay. At the last minute I discovered that they were about to leave a printer that was supposed to move. They removed cables and power cords from most electronic items. I cannot use my printer because they lost one of the screws that connects the printer cable to the PC. My desktop PC which is old but has always been a stable machine has turned itself off several times since the move, the start button has been behaving inconsistently it does not always start on the first try. At first the crew was polite and attentive. Working in the hot loft area was hard for them and they started to get rude and used bad language. They also started paying less attention to my instructions. They had it fixed in their minds that they would be done by 4:00PM. As the afternoon went on they started to rush and grew careless. It was obvious that getting finished at 4:00 was more important to them than doing a good quality job. I had seven years worth of income tax records stored in boxes, one box for each year. Most of these they moved correctly by putting my small boxes inside one of their large boxes. For tax year 2007 they dumped my small box into one of their large boxes which contained other papers leaving me to sort out a big mess. I told the foreman that I had nothing stored in trash bags and that all trash bags in the house contained trash. They packed two bags of trash in moving boxes and brought them to my new home. They also dumped trash on the floor of my old house. They very carefully packed the kitchen glassware as agreed but they left almost all my plastic kitchen items in the cabinets. At my new home they drove their truck on the lawn and were loudly resentful when someone from the condominium association told them that they had to move it. I have a large collection of old railroad magazines. I pointed out one pile of these to the foreman and asked him to put them in a box marked RR Magazines and put it in the garage for storage. This was not done. I asked him to do this because I knew I did not have enough room for them in the new condo and they were too heavy for me to carry to the garage myself. One bathroom at the new condo smelled like someone had been smoking pot. This was probably someone from the moving crew. I had visited the new condo 2 days before the move and it was in pristine condition. Two bookcases had one shelf pop out during the move. One file cabinet had the handle break. For this poor level of service they charged me $2,559 more than 3 times the original estimate. On top of that they were very aggressive in demanding a tip. At this point I was not fully aware of all the problems and I reluctantly gave them a tip in recognition of the fact that they worked very hard in the heat.

Dear [removed member name], Yes Peter Rosengard did give you a written estimate, which was for Moving your condo contents only and to pack (1) dish pack, (3) wardobes and that is all. When our movers arrived at your door you had nothing ready so Peter called you and told you that because you were not packed and ready to move as planned, we would either have to come back another day or you have the choice to pay the men to Pack your boxes. You agreed to that service. We ended up packing 1 dish,( 25) book boxes(14) medium, (25) large (25) ex large (2) wardrobes and (3) mirror cartons. This is the reason your move ended up so much higher than anticipated. You were given the oportunity to not move until you were ready but that could not happen as you needed to be out of Morgan drive that day. We would never have just left you unmoved and with out a mover because you were not prepared for the agreed services. We only service what is needed and what the customer has chosen us to do to complete the job. In your circumstance we informed you that it was not our fault that you were not packed and ready for moving day. I am sorry that you feel as though our company is at fault because of unexpected costs that you yourself had incurred is the right thing, but again we completed your move the way you approved on that day to get you over to your new residence. We have been family owned and operated for 32 years, we take our customers needs and concerns very seriously. You were a satisfied customer when our company pulled out of your new residence, and that is what we thrived upon as when we got to your home and saw that you were not prepared. We explained that we needed to add 1 more worker and lots of packing material to get you moved that day. I hope some day you will come to realize that we did the job for you in a professional manner and we completed your service of need the exact way you needed it completed and you approved this service before we started the job, you also stated that you had no time to pack your belongings for the moving day as planned per the very first estimate you were given that stated No packing was needed. I wish you the very best in your new residence and I hope that as time goes on that you realize that Rosengard Movers preformed a very large job for you that was suppose to be a small job in a timely, professional manner to get you thru your unprepared moving day. Sincerely Yours Pamela Rosengard

They were supposed to arrive by 7:00 AM on 5/25/12. They arrived at apps. 7:55 and didn't start work until around 8:15 I was about to call their office when they arrived. The three men moving crew were nice and did get right to work. It was a warm day so, they took a lot of breaks. They assured me I would not be charged for their breaks. Once everything was loaded an ready to drive the 6 miles to the other house. They told me the truck was really heavy and they would take it slow. It took them 40 minutes to make the trip. When it was time to settle the bill, they charged me starting at 7AM and told me that I was to pay for travel time. I was not told that in the estimate. I paid the bill and called the office on Monday morning. I discovered several pieces of the furniture had been damaged. And they 2 shelves were missing. I called the office on Monday and spoke to the owner. I was told that he would look into and get back to me. But, I did have to pay for travel time. If I had known that, I would have gone with the local company rather than one from a neighboring town. I felt I was owed 160 since I was overcharged an hour between breaks and travel time. He asked me to keep looking for the shelf and let him know. I found the glass shelf at the other house and the other shelf was left in the garage. After over a week, I was credited 1/2 hour. It was better than nothing, but I would not recommend them to friends. He did say they would send a wood refinisher to fix the damage to the furniture. I was pleased with the fixes to the furniture although I have since discovered that our dryer was damaged in the move, but I didn't bother to go through the hassle of contacting them again.
Description of Work: They provided moving services from one house to another in same town.

Dear Member, I am reading the comment you left about your move with our company. It is to my sadness that you feel this way. We do thrive on happy customers that is why I will respond to you. First on the start time all trucks are dispatched at 7AM and in some circumstances they get caught in traffic. We never dispatch trucks until 7 am and I think there was a bit of a communication glitch with that as we always explain to our customers about the dispatch time and the travel time. And with the men starting to move you out at 8:15 they always need to survey the contents of the home to see what room is best to start with as they need to pack the truck accordingly. With the damage, we did send out a repairman and most companies do not do that, they just give you .60 per pound per article and thats it and then you still have the damage. We sent out a repairman to make it right. Moving day is very stressful and we understand that with everyone's move. Being a family owned buisness we take everyone's situation serious and we did credit you and fix what you told us was scratched. And I am sorry that you feel this way about the company being in buisness for thirty One years I take all my customers moves seriously. I feel as though we did everything we could to fix all issue's for you. I again am sorry you were not satisfied even after we did what we could to make all your concerns that day right. Thank You Pamela Rosengard

The men that moved us were very friendly and exceptional at moving our belongings. There were supposed to be three men, but one did not show up at the office that morning. The two men that did the work were so efficient, we never would have known one was missing. Our fee was adjusted accordingly. I cannot express how impressed we were with their service! It was a two-bedroom move and only to the other side of town, but we would definitely recommend them to our friends and use them again for ourselves.
Description of Work: Moving boxes and furniture from our home to truck. Unloading same items from truck to the rooms of our new apartment. Tear down and set up of bed frame. Items were very carefully and skillfully packed on the truck.

Excellent overall, good crew, very professional and efficient. Some very minor damage, our Flat screen TV's stand is plastic and cracked from the cold weather. I would suggest getting a TV box from a packing store and pre-packing your flat panel. Excellent job with the piano (small upright, high sentimential value). I would use them again.

They were great. Our old house was a 4000 square foot house. They were very flexible about us doing however much or little we wanted to do. So my husband went to the store and packed a lot of boxes. He moved them over night after night himself. We basically packed everything except for the furniture. They did come in and finish up some packing like the dishes and the rest of the stuff that needed special packing. It was done in half a day. They came in on a Saturday morning and were done by 1 o?clock. Everything was unpacked in our new house at 1 since it was pretty close to our old house. They did come out and work unlike some companies who don?t want to do anything at all. They were willing to take up whatever we couldn?t do. We have a big piano and it is very heavy. So they did a good job in moving that too. We had them place the piano on the first floor and then we decided to keep it upstairs after a few months. They did come to move it upstairs but they had underestimated how hard it would be. So they didn?t send enough help and got it up the step but couldn?t move it. However, it needed a professional piano mover. So that was the only negative thing about them but they got it from the old house to this house without any damage at all. They were very easy to work with. There were some older guys and some young guys who came out. They were all clean and courteous. Sometimes moving guys can be rough but they were great. We did receive quotes from others but the others either wanted to do everything for more money or wanted to do the same amount of work for more money. We did have some problems at the end and so the moving day was put off by few days. However, they managed that very nicely too. A lot of companies would have not agreed to that. The quality of their work was good since there was nothing that broke. That was pretty amazing. It was very easy to reach them since they do have someone answering the phone all the time in their office and who schedules things very easily. They also communicate really well with the guys on the road and their customers. Their punctuality was definitely fine since they got the work done on time. They were definitely professional, courteous and competent. I would recommend them to someone else but I am never moving again.

THE MOVERS WERE PROMPT FOR BOTH THE PACKING AND THE MOVE. THEY WERE CAREFUL AND WE HAD NOTHING DAMAGED. THE ONLY THING THEY DIDN'T DO WAS SET UP THE SWINGSET BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING... THEY NEVER CAME BACK TO DO IT. I ALSO FELT THE MOVERS WEREN'T OVERLY EXCITED ABOUT THEIR JOBS... THEY WERE A LITTLE SLOW IN MY ESTIMATION (WHICH IS AN ISSUE WHEN PAYING BY THE HOUR). OVERALL, THOUGH THE EXPERIENCE WAS FINE.
