Mike came to see me on time and was very thorough in determining exactly what was wanted and what the job would entail. A detailed estimate, clearly stating the scope of work, was provided within a day or two, and was considerably more economical than other estimates I had received ( one for 3 times the cost of Mike's estimate!). The start date was September 9th, and although the estimated time for completion was 3 weeks, the project was not finished until late October, due to the discovery of additional problem areas, and the weather, all of which I expected. Ken was foreman on the job, and kept me completely informed as to the progress and the discovery of additional problem areas. No additional repairs or work were undertaken without an estimate and prior approval. Ken was very personable, informative, and a perfectionist. I plan to hire Mike's Powerhouse Crew again this year for repair of the front porch, new windows, and some punchlist items that need addressing. Although there were some delays and added costs, none were unexpected, and I am completely satisfied with my new deck (which looks fantastic), and my now structurally sound garage (which also looks terrific). Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Restored garage and roof deck, including removing and replacing rotted infrastructure (sills, rafters, door framing), installing new garage roof, constructing new rooftop deck, raising doorway to deck, installing new deck door, deck lighting, shingling, new garage door, interior garage lighting and outlets. Also noted places on the house that needed attention, and replaced two window sills, corner board, and repaired hole in the side of the house (woodpecker).

At our request, the owner of Mike?s Powerhouse Crew came to our bed and breakfast and priced a small tile/bathroom job we needed done with his "expert tile guy? along. The job was to have 9 bathroom tubs or showers re-caulked, and a few cracked tiles around 3 of our Jacuzzis replaced in 3 of those same bathrooms. We were aware that one, and possibly two, of the bathrooms may have some spots of rotted wood due to water damage. We discussed a few easy and inexpensive repair plans for those areas, and were told not to worry because Mike's expert tile guy would know what to do. They promised to fix all issues and make everything look like nice so that we can get through another year before our bathroom remodel starts in January of 2015. The tile expert even stated that he works so neatly, we would never even know they were there. The expert tile guy shows up the first day...late...with ?window and patio door caulking? instead of bathroom caulk, and then proceeded to walk aimlessly back and forth between three bathrooms removing small areas of grout and some tiles, and in the process he broke 7 more tiles, and ruined a wood Jacuzzi panel that was in perfect condition. He continued this for about 4 hours while he occasionally would walk out and get in his car, leave for a few minutes, then return. Then at 1:45pm, he just left for the day. We called the owner, Mike, who really couldn?t explain the mystery of why his expert acted like that, why he left at 1:45, or why he brought window and patio caulking to use on our bath tubs, but he would be sure to get the correct product to us, and again, he promised us a job with wonderful results. As we hung up the phone, he also stated he would have a long talk with his expert tile guy, and that he would have him back to us early the next morning. The next morning, the tile guy arrives, and walks in our back door and directly to one of the bathrooms not saying a word. He stands in front of the bath tubs for about 5 seconds, turns around and walks out, never saying a word. His behavior continues to be extremely bizarre and unsettling so I locked all the doors, and again...called Mike, letting him know I do not want his expert back in our home. Mike states he is usually very good and maybe he is just having a bad day. (We came to find out his " tile expert? was in fact newly hired and is not in any way a tile expert?and no one else in ?the company? ever heard of him). We hired him only because of his so called ?expert tile man? that he claimed to have. At that time, I explain to Mike that I want our money back and we are done with them. Again, he makes many promises of experienced workers and great results if we will just give him another try. Ok, the next two days...3 new guys work... and they are in and out at various times...no one seems to have any direction or know what they are supposed to be doing. Mike is also in and out as well as calling us many times telling us over and over not to worry, everything will be done, and that he would ?make things right" and we will be happy with the results. Harold and Jeff, two of the workers that were attempting to fix the tile experts damage and finish the job were very nice. However, it was obvious that tub caulking and replacing tiles was not their expertise. There were not any unexpected problems that came up during this job...there were a few areas of rotted wood as expected. We discussed how they were going to repair it, and that small part of the job was actually done ok. The rest of the job was just removing caulk around tubs and re-caulking and replacing a few broken tiles...that is it. At the end of the second full work day we are forwarded a final bill from Mike. We respond with photos of all the damage and incomplete work, and we also forward a copy to our attorney. Mike responds with ?I will have my guys show up there tomorrow and fix this for ?free?? Free! We are not getting anything done for free when all they are doing is repairing the amateur work and damage that the other company workers did! Jeff did return the next day, for "free" and worked for a few hours. Again, he did his best to make things look better and he finished some of the places that were left half done. When he left, some places did look better (thank you Jeff), some places that they started still were not completed, 2 bathrooms were not worked on at all, and some areas were left damaged. And it took Mike?s Powerhouse Crew over 30 hours to get to this point. We, of course, are being charged hourly for all this. It became very obvious that Mike did not have a qualified crew, and never should have taken on this job. Now, not only are we are left to hire someone else to finish the job, but we now need a carpenter to make a new panel to replace the damaged one. Also, Mike's billing "system" is interesting and needs to be watched every step of the way. The man working hours went from 30 hours, to 28 hours to 26 hours, as a favor to us. Also, he told us over and over that he was not charging us 8 1/2 hours for the first day the ?expert tile guy? worked as that is what the expert tile guy was charging him?but, he only was going to charge us for the 4 hours we were telling him he actually worked?I guess we were supposed to appreciate that we didn?t have to pay someone for ?not working??as it was, he was actually charging us for the 4 hours his expert tile guy did nothing other than damage our property and go for short rides! When we received our final bill, we asked for an itemization of items purchased as it seemed to us that his request of $395.00 on his estimate, that also transferred to our final bill, seemed high for a container of grout and adhesive, 10 tubes of $5 caulking, and a few plastic tools. He then lowered the charge to $340.00, because...... he realized he charged us the estimated amount and not the actual amount. Then we asked him to itemize the $340.00 ?actual amount? as it still seemed high. Here a few lines copied from his itemized statement ??Home Depot (caulking, adhesive, grout, etc.); $169.00?? we have never been charge for ?etc.? before!?and then there was this line?.?$283.00 plus 20% standard company mark-up; $57.00? ? weren?t we just charged the company mark-up on the ?etc.?! ?? After 30+ hours, and we are left with an incomplete mess, their final bill to us was $1,435. We paid $1,133, due to what we see are some unfair and unexplained charges, and having to now pay a carpenter. Mike?s Powerhouse is in no way a Powerhouse or a professional company of any kind. It is a guy taking on jobs he is not qualified to do, promising whatever he has to get the job, charging unjustified money, and then scurrying around to find any person that will say that they are an expert to send to the job. We certainly will never use them again, or Angie's list for that matter. We have waited now for 4 days for a return call from Angie's List to explain how a business really gets listed with them, ...still no call. We are sure Mike will respond to this review with statements such as ?we did all we could to make this right? and ?we shaved hours charged off their bill, charging them 26 hours rather than 30 hours? ...oh and ?we asked if we could come and complete the last two bathrooms, fix the grout and caulk... and fix the panel?for free!? ? He certainly knows what to say to make everything sound good, but at the end of the day, this guy is unprofessional, and his so called "company" consists of amateurs with few exceptions. Save yourself, don?t make the call.
Description of Work: Hired to replace approx. a dozen+ broken bathroom tiles around 3 Jucuzzi tubs, repair a few rotted wood areas around tub, and replace caulking around 8 tubs and 1 shower.

We, at Mike' Powerhouse Crew, are truly sorry this customer is unhappy. We truly strive to please every customer as can be seen by our many "A" reviews. Unfortunately, this employee had misconstrued his past experience to both us and the customer. We take full blame and offered to make this situation better by fixing anything the customer deemed unsatisfactory for "no charge" as well as bringing our crew in on a Sunday and taking them away from their family time. None of these employees complained about working on a Sunday if they could help satisfy this customer. We have recently hired a carpenter/tile man with extensive experience and impeccable references who has already received accolades for his great work. We can't please every customer, even though we try and thank our many returning customers for their loyalty over the years. Sincerely, Michael Yeomans, owner

As I said, there was wall paint on ceiling and some on the rug. Desk in bedroom had paint marks on, it but I did get them off. He seemed very hurried. I think he needed more drop clothes and should have taped molding, and ceiling line to avoid paint over.

Mike was a joy to work with. He oversaw the men, called us regularly, always asked if we had any concerns-and if we did they were addressed immediately. The crews were tidy, took away all refuse, congenial and polite. He returned phone calls quickly--most often he picked up himself. Everyone was always punctual. Over the years in various houses we've employed a number of people. Mike is far and away the most professional, skilled and best person we've ever worked with. He's a gem--hire him! .
Description of Work: Mike's workers: power washed, scraped, primed and used two coats of topcoat paint on our two bedroom one story house exterior and replaced rotten trim as needed. The paint job (top coat was 3 colors) looks beautiful and we couldn't be happier. Replaced basement door with new exterior Anderson screen door with in-storage screen. Replaced side door with new solid door and new exterior screen/glass door. Painted it to match house colors. Replaced gutter on the front of the house. Built beautiful railing around the back deck. Four foot high spaced closely together, with top ledge.

My experience started with an immediate call back to a message I had left. I had a bathroom that was rotting out around me and I knew this project had moved from "We'd like to do it" to "We have to do it". Mike can over that evening and gave a very reasonable estimate for the work. He understood and was fine with the fact that we had already purchased materials and wanted to keep costs as low as possible even if we had to do little things like haul the excess to the dump. Jeff started demolishing within the week and we were off. I think what was most satisfying during the job was that we were never left any night without a semi working bathroom. I'm sure this added several hours to the job but the crew never left us hanging! The flooring I choose ended up being special order and then arrived from the local box store broken. Although none of that was the crews fault they seemed to care that the job took longer than we originally thought. They were always in contact and once it finally came in finished quickly. We are very happy with both the overall cost and the end results. My bathroom is now safe, mold free and pretty! Thanks!
Description of Work: The crew removed wall tile and rotted floor in my bathroom. They made the floor structurally sound and laid new flooring. They installed new vanity and ceiling fan. They resurfaced the walls so that we could paint.

We have been trying to use him for the last two or three months. They did one job that is probably okay on a banister, but they screwed up putting sheetrock on pre-studded walls and damaged my house in the process because they weren't using drop clothes, they dragged equipment across a rug. They put huge pulls in my Berber carpet. I was just trying to get a clean space between a hallway into a finished room the basement. It wasn't a big job, it wasn't a complicated job, but it's been so painful that my husband and I are walking away from it. We are just now hearing from Mike saying what we can do. It's just in such a disaster. People keep doing a poor job and sending more people in, we don't have the time for that. My husband has to come home early to get a handicap kid off the bus so I can run down for the tape for people who don't show up when they are supposed to show up. I'm told that Mike is going to Florida on the 15th and he wants us to make the house available to him before the 15th. And it's not physically possible. I'm a nurse, I have a job. I have handicapped kids, I have responsibilities. It's his company, it's not my responsibility to now jump because he wants to go to Florida. They were there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We are talking about a hallway in a tiny house. They promised to put up wood where they couldn't match the pieces of sheetrock that looks really badly, they haven't put the wood in, they need to finish the crappy job to hide the crappy job that they did. I still didn't get what I asked for which was a a clean finished space. We are paying good money for it. There is construction that is done right and there is construction that is done poorly and that is a very poor job. He would make all the promises and then he would no show or he would show for sixteen minutes. He would have all these excuses why he couldn't get the subs in the house to do the job. They are asking more and more and more out of me and I kept giving it with no results. I don;t really know who is the bad guy but Mike is the one who is responsible for this job and we are nice people, my husband paid him without the job being complete. The walls don't meet up with the stairs, there is gaps on either side of the stairs, and I don't want to look at the dirty side of my basement. I just want it clean and effective for being an individual space. The first guy did the sheetrock wrong, the second guy was the creepy guy, at looking at him and talking to him he was high and then a third team came out and they had to take a sander to the walls to take off the mud. Then more people had to come out to spackle. It's been non-stop. We are so disgusted we have to walk away. Which means I'm going to have to live with this for the rest of my life probably.

I had used this company in 2012 for some outdoor carpentry work to my satisfaction. The workers sent were well qualified. I arranged this year to have my roof replaced based on this past experience. The people who worked for me previously were not used this time. The main contractor brought in a sub-contractor whom I did not feel very comfortable with. He appeared competent and was a union carpenter. However, he was not well organized. He started work on a Saturday without his "regular crew" (I don't believe I ever saw his regular crew). It was a very hot day and one of his laborers went home early because of the heat. The sub-contractor and his remaining assistant worked h****** that very hot day. They came again on Sunday (late) and before they started had engaged in an argument on how to proceed. I did not need to hear this. The assistant left early. Fortunately, the subcontractor had another assistant and they proceeded with the work. They worked until dark which I found disconcerting because I feared for their safety on my steep roof. The sub-contractor did not show on Monday though he had not clearly indicated to me that he would not come. Although I received no phone call I am an amiable, tolerant man and understood that the work had been done on a very hot weekend and the man needed to rest. He continued the work but unfortunately there was rain during the week (I am not sure if that were a Wednesday or Thursday night) and the sub-contractor had not sealed the roof and I had leakage which damaged my kitchen ceiling and the ceiling and wall of one bedroom. This was a stressful disaster for me. Fortunately, I hired a good company to repair the damage and my insurance covered the damage except for the deductible (not a small sum), but I cannot express the great stress and aggravation this caused me. I called the main contractor to tell him my concerns and he sent another experienced roofer and a laborer to assist the sub-contractor to finish the job the following week which took about three days. The work appears very good, at least I haven't noticed any leaks. On the last day the sub-contractor and the experienced roofer sent by the main contractor disappeared for three hours or so for "lunch". The sub-contractor explained to me that this man had worked hard and he wanted to treat him because of the work he had done--all well and good, but I wish he had taken him out to dinner, after the job was finished. They finished the work by nightfall but, again, I was concerned for their safety. I was so concerned about their whereabouts that I called the main contractor to inform them that the two men had disappeared. Everyone who worked on this job was polite to me but the sub-contractor was seriously disorganized in his scheduling of assistants, informing me of his whereabouts, arriving on time, working too late, into the dark and he made a serious error in not adequately covering my roof. They went over the originally estimated cost and at one point the sub-contractor asked me for an advance to pay his crew. There were too many irregularities, poor planning, etc. that caused me more than minor headaches. I would not use this company again, though the work appears good. There was too high a price to pay, and I do not mean exclusively the monetary cost. Please understand that the above is my impression of what went on, perhaps the sub-contractor has legitimate excuses for what I experienced, but only I can relate my dissatisfaction. I do not mean to disparage anyone, but this was not a pleasant experience for me.

Response from Mike's Powerhouse Crew
We, at Mike's Powerhouse Crew are truly sorry that one of our repeat customers had such a bad experience with a sub-contractor we hired. When this customer called us back, our regular roofing crew was on another job, so we brought on a new sub-contractor who sold us on his past expertise and quality work. We found out this was not the case and have severed our relations permanently with this sub-contractor. When we found our customer was dissatisfied with the work being done by the sub-contractor, we immediately got in touch with our customer to see what we could do to rectify the situation. As owner of the company, I felt it was my responsibility to go out and see the customer personally and assure him that the job would be done correctly. I also assigned one of my roofing employees to go over to the job and oversee the completion of the project. Ultimately, the roofing was done correctly and there have been no problems but we are truly sorry for what our customer feels was inadequate service and hope he will give us another opportunity to work with him on his home improvement projects. Sincerely, Michael Yeomans, owner

I needed a new slider and Kitchen window so I called Mikes Powerhouse Crew. I'm so sorry that I did you can read below how it went. When they showed up to measure the door size Mike Yeomans said I have a custom door meaning more money. By the way Ken all you had to do is pull off inside molding and can measure the frame size. Ken however used a tape measure and measured it from the outside.(Ken get a clue) He talked me into a harvey door I said if it has same quality as a Anderson, a Harvey would be ok, By the way It is not even close to Anderson Quality. He probably gets a better cut on the harvey. At first he told me I had a custom slider I told him that it wasn't at least five times. Later you will see what problems arose due to him claiming it was a custom door. But after all was said and done it turned out to be regular standard door size. So Ken Yeomans ordered a custom size door. They started by removing the old door and window, Dan did the window and there was no problems with installation of the window looks nice except for the missing screws and plugs. (see picture) Ken started working on the door because he measured wrong they had to make the existing frame larger a 2X6 from both sides removed and needed to add 1" of wood to replace the 2X6 he removed. At first he tried to piece together some old barn/board that was removed from somebody's shed but I caught him and said no way. So the best he could come up with was deck board (instead of proper lumber) I let this go. Because he ordered the door bigger than the opening everything had to be enlarged so shingles, plywood, drywall, using a 1" vibration tool! (NOISE) After the frame was installed the stationary door would not close to the edge because I pointed out to him that the track that held it in place was installed 1/4 inch off after they fixed that the door still does not close all the way to the edge. Ken cut the shingles to much now they are 1/4" from the molding (see picture). I had to then come up with a piece of oak flooring because now that Ken ordered a larger door the wood flooring was too short (see Picture) This will have to be done over by my flooring guy so told ken that I will with hold money until I get estimate on floor. The estimate for floor repair came to $350.00 He then complained that he had to order more of everything Molding, flooring, (Because of Him ordering the wrong size) Ken will argue with you when you tell him something that has bothered you instead of listening to the customer. Besides all the mistakes and errors this is why I will never use them again and give them a F overall. Dan is quite good at what he does he should be on his own and dump Mike/Ken Yeomans of Mikes Idiot Crew. The two last paragraph's of his response are false yes the person from the company called and he too could not answer my concerns about the warranty I wanted a 20 yr door it says so in contract but what they put in was 10 yr look online at harvey doors so he never came over to see it. And this "Mike's Powerhouse Crew offers to rectify any carpentry issues at no charge" is b******* I had to hold money back to get someone else to fix their screw-ups!
Description of Work: THIS IS FIRST CONTRACTOR ON ANGIE'S LIST THAT i HAD PROBLEMS WITH! THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU HIRE THESE GUYS! He was to replace sliding door to deck, and replace existing kitchen window.

Response from Mike's Powerhouse Crew
I want to express my apologies to (Member name removed) on behalf of Mike's Powerhouse Crew with regard to his dissatisfaction with this project and I want to thank (Member name removed) for his feedback as it has made me aware of several mistakes that could have been avoided during this project. Firstly, we did make a mistake in the initial measurement of (Member name removed) door which resulted in additional difficulties and modifications. While we have 30 years in the construction industry, we do make mistakes and we made a mistake on Mr. Liliac's project and we do apologize. Secondly, (Member name removed)was leaning toward an Anderson sliding door, and we recommended a comparable brand with a comparable warranty from a local reputable vendor trying to take into consideration any future service or warranty issues (Member name removed) might encounter; however, upon reflection, I will always defer to the customers choice in product brands. Since learning of (Member name removed) dissatisfaction, I have contacted Harvey Industries and they are going to have a representative contact (Member name removed) and visit his home to address his concerns. We truly expect Harvey Industries to stand behind their product and they too want to make (Member name removed) happy with this replacement sliding door. Again, we apologize to (Member name removed) that mistakes were made on his project. Mike's Powerhouse Crew offers to rectify any carpentry issues at no charge to (Member name removed) and Harvey Industries is standing behind their product 100% Mike Yeomans President MIKE'S POWERHOUSE CREW Once again, thank you for your feedback.

They were very responsive and came quickly after we first contacted them. They gave an estimate promptly. When we agreed on the final price, they started work. I was a bit skeptical of their promise to make my 16 year old I stained deck "look like new," but they did! Power washing was done thoroughly with care for the surrounding plantings. A sealant was then applied. They also prepped a section of our house by sanding down layers of paint to bare wood and then priming and painting. The part of the house they did looks marvelous. The one negative was the fact that they didn't always come when they said they would, so instead of taking what they said would be 2-3 days, the job was done over 5-6 days. The crew (Jeff and Harold) were friendly, responsive, and took pride in what they did. I would use them again.

Mike's Powerhouse Crew provided a qualified finish carpenter, Danny, who was always punctual, worked hard through the day and took the time to explain exactly what he was doing, a good business practice. Danny did an excellent professional job in replacing a damaged Bow window sill, matched the circular moldings, replaced the plywood sub-base after adding insulation, replaced a couple of broken windows and painted all repaired areas. For a project other contractors said was impractical, the job was scheduled and completed promptly, a day ahead of schedule and on budget. We are absolutely delighted with the entire process and the results.
Description of Work: Restored a large old damaged Bow window to its original condition when other contractor's said it must be replaced.

I liked Mike very much and wanted to use his company for handyman services. But, his price was just too high. I got other estmates for low skilled handyman services on Cape Cod which were very high also. Cape Cod labor prices are just too. high. I'll be importing from the Boston area which is 1/3 cost.

y with the workMike Yoemans gave me a written estimate within 1 week from initial contact. Started the job 3 days after I accepted estimate. He met with me at Home Depot to personally assist in coordinating counter top and tile. Took care to ensure all materials would be available and on site. Two men on the job each day. They worked for 3 days. All work was done in a professional manner. Mike stopped by on second day to make sure I was happy with the work. (very happy). I usually find something that I'm not happy with. That didn't happen with the Powerhouse Crew. Mi

This was a superior job in every way. From the initial contact with MIke, who came out to do the estimate, to his crew, Patrick, it was perfection. The punctuality was incredible given the Cape Cod summer and the usual "Cape Cod Time" that applies for many things here. Mike sent a contract the day after his visit, and Patrick was at the house within three days (not bad when counting on the postal service for return of the signed contract and down payment of half.) Patrick is a master carpenter who cares about every detail - they type and quality of wood used for the fence, the precision of the cuts, cleaning up the site after doing the job....everything. All three jobs were completed in a very timely fashion. We are delighted to have found Mike and Patrick and will certainly use them again.
Description of Work: Mike's Powerhouse crew repaired/replaced a fence that had been downed by a tree falling this winter; replaced a facing board (apx 4ft) damaged by dry rot and woodpeckers; and fixed a fire-door whose metal covering had separated and was jamming the door at the bottom.

Mike and his crew were amazingly responsive, professional, timely, polite. They even worked on July 4th to prepare the deck for our family who came down at the last minute! We were sent pictures at every step of the way, and as the crew ran into issues, Mike and Jeff called to explain before they continued. The carpentry on the deck and in front looks better than it did when it was first done! We are so very pleased with the quality of the work and the integrity of the workers, we can't say enough good things. Because we don't live on the Cape and only come for weekends, it is really important that we find people whom we can trust. Mike and his crew fill the bill, and we will be using them again!
Description of Work: Mike's Powerhouse Crew did some extensive work outside on our deck, lattice, front porch landing, roof, and siding. It involved power washing, carpentry of deck rails (including replacing, repairing, and adding appropriate boards), replacing front porch wood with mahogany, painting front porch landing, and staining deck, rails, etc. They also powerwashed our outdoor shower and floor.

I called on a Saturday AM at 8 AM, and Mike answered the phone. This is of course hugely important and I give him A plus for that! I had a flooded basement after a rainstorm and I wanted to employ a handyman type to assess whether I needed the "big guns" meaning the dreaded basement water people, or what was up. Meantime a roofer friend of mine showed up and he was there when Mike arrived. Again, I give Mike kudos for showing up, being punctual and professional. However, my roofer friend went on to the roof before Mike arrived, and discovered my gutters were totally clogged even though they'd been cleaned last fall. Mike did not go on the roof to look at all. He even said to my friend, paraphrasing, in all due respect, you aren't an expert! He didn't go on the roof at all, he went to the basement and began talking about French drains and new gutter systems. None of us were sure about whether cleaning the gutters would work of course. Mike asked would I like an estimate from the gutter company he uses. I said sure as it's always great to get opinions. Mike showed up on time for that analysis, and again I recommend him highly for that. However he said he not only brought in the gutter company he brought in an engineer, which I didn't ask for. He said I'd get an estimate by Monday and now it's Tuesday. Bottom line is this is a great guy, very conscientious, but sometimes a simple thing fixes things. If you know what that is. We've had horrible rain since my friend cleaned the gutters and there's not a drop of water in the basement. I recommend him with reservation,
