Pella Windows and Doors

It was a big job and took about one day to complete the job each time. I had an issue with the window because it was cracked and I returned it. They gave me a new window with no hardware. I took awhile for me to get the replacement parts from the manufacturer. That was the only problem I had with the service but everything else was good.

Everything went very well. They did it in a reasonable amount of time. No problems. They came when they said they would.

They did very good. I worked together with the factory people and Pella brought in their own contractor to do the installation. I was very happy with them. The reason it turned out fine was because I did a lot of the preliminary work and engineering. The cost was 10,000 which I felt was kind of high, but I feel it was competitive.

It’s fine for what we paid for. We went to showroom and the selection was good.

It went very well. They were very efficient. No complaints.

It was excellent. They were extremely professional and meticulous which I love. The man who put them in was very, very meticulous. It took him about 2-3 days to put the windows in. The only reason I gave a “B” for overall experience is because the sales representative didn’t know how much glass was in the front door and he kept saying there was more glass in the door I had purchased. In the diagram for the doors there wasn’t square footage listed. The people who put everything in were excellent. They cleaned up well. There was no dust left behind.

We got a good deal. The contractors they used were incredible. They were good kids. They came in, they were clean, they picked up after themselves, they did not leave the mess, and they vacuumed. They explained the windows, showed me how to use them and what tricks to do to clean them. I got a good price from them.

We arranged with Pella Doors and Windows of Haverhill, MA to replace two windows - a small job, I know. We used new construction, not replacement to gain the largest square inches of glass. The salesman said both he and the project manager would stop by when the job was being done. Neither did. When the crew arrived on May 1st, one of the windows was the wrong size - too big. When the new one came in the window was too small by 2" in height, but we accepted it. The panes are 8.5 x 10.5, rather than 8.5 x 11.0. (51 total square inches less glass.) The salesman said we needed a building permit, but they didn't get it until I reminded the salesman, AFTER the job was 1/2 finished. The job was finally finished on May 18th and the building permit arrived the following week. The salesman asked for $75.00 for the permit, but it only cost $50.00. (5/28) Haven't heard from anyone about a refund. The Pella subcontractor that did the job was fine. I would use them for future work.

The process of buying and selecting was pleasant and professional, but less so the follow-up.

We looked at several options and Pella was very cost competitive. They handled everything. The windows were installed within four weeks of signing the contract. It took two days to do the entire place. The crew was very professional. They got along well with my dog, which always scores points. There were a couple of scrapes on the sashes after installation that they took care of before they left. It was an easy process and I was able to pay with my credit card so I earned points. I would recommend them to anyone.

Overall, this was a bad experience. We hired Pella although they were about $500 more expensive than Lowe's (for what I believe would have been the exact same door). We were told by the sales rep that they are more expensive because they hire a project manager to oversee the installation from start to finish. We saw this person only once and that was before the installation. On the day of the installation, only a carpenter and apprentice showed up.*The door itself is missing some caps that are supposed to cover the screws in the moulding. I contacted Pella several times after the installation and got no response. *The first installation was so poor that we had to call Pella to send out a new crew to reinstall. The first installer did not shim the door, thereby making it sit crooked and we could actually see daylight at the bottom of the door when looking from the inside of our house. In addition, the Pella rep told us that they personally trained their installers to do work only for Pella; however the 2nd member of the 2 person crew appeared to be brand new. The main carpenter had to instruct him every step of the way.*Even the reinstallation did not work out perfectly. The door is still not perfectly level and we still have a small gap to the outside. The crew did appear to be far more knowledgeable, and I believe they were actually Pella employees.I will never hire Pella again and believe that I would have had a much better experience with Lowes.The only reason I did not rate them lower is that the door itself appears to be of good quality, despite the poor installation. Also the 2nd installation crew did a decent job trying to fix the errors of the first crew.

We wanted to ad some windows to the kitchen, and replace some rotting windows in the basement. They first sent a sales manager, who discussed the projects in detail, and then sent us an estimate for both jobs. We liked the estimate, and told him to go ahead. He next step was a visit by the project manager who will give more details on the exact nature and duration of the work to be performed. Next, we were visited by the PM. He wasn't completely informed about the work, and we had to go over the design angain. He indicated that they might have to put in a 12" header rather than an 8" one, as originally estimated, for a small additional cost, but otherwise no major issues were raised. Then I got an email from the sales manager that the external siding work was not covered in his proposal, and will cost extra, and they will send a contractor to give an estimate for that. When I questioned why the siding work was not included in a project to install new windows, at first he said that it was more work than he had thought. When I pressed what had changed, he suddenly changed his tune, and told us that the project was structurally unsound, and they cannot do it. Until I questioned the extra cost for the siding, they had no structural concerns, and the project was fine with both the sales manager and the project manager. Since then, they have not responded to my emails, and have totally vanished. Seems like a bait and switch gig to me--first give a low estimate to get the contract approved, then incrementally add other items to jack up the costs. Not a very professional company.

I would recommend this service provider to other members. They did not a sand and finish a couple window sills and it looks/feels a little rough. I wish they could have done a better job on the sills, however the windows are fantastic. I wish I could take them to my new house.

Seven years ago Pella installed a large bay window in our living room. Three years ago the seat board of the window started to rot -- subsequently it was determined that when Pella Haverhill put together the bay in their shop for delivery and installation at our home they had done a very poor job of sealing the window exterior from the elements. In Oct 2010, I contacted Pella Haverhill of the problem. They were prompt in coming to the house to assess the problem, however it took repeated phone calls and messages over the NEXT YEAR to finally have them replace the window in October 2011.The project manager assigned to the replacement seemed nice enough. He described how the installation should go and what to expect -- this included a discussion of putting additional support under the window, despite the use of Pella's cable system, because the size of the bay was so large. But, the install crew chose not to install additional supports under the window, saying that the "cables can hold a Volkswagen". Also, during the installation the crew typically worked no more than 4-6 hours a day. I ended up providing them with extra roof shingles, tyvek, and insulation because they either forgot to bring it with them, or never ordered it, and would therefore delay the project. And for all of that I got the pleasure of paying $1,800 for the installation. At least Pella National paid for the window.One month later Pella delivered the screens for the casement side windows of the bay and tightened the cables as the side windows were already starting to stick. They said call them anytime to come out to adjust the cables as they would cover it for three years -- what do I do after three years? Needless to say, I will undoubtedly have to hire someone else to put in the additional support described by the project manager.Based on this poor experience along with the equally substandard job of the initial construction of the window seven years ago I would unequivocally recommend that you NOT use Pella of Haverhill. I even sent a letter to the owner of the Pella Haverhill franchise after the initial installation recommending he institute a quality control program -- apparently it fell on deaf ears.

I had problem with their responsiveness. They were good. It’s unlikely that we have to use them. I would use them in the future.

They were very thorough and sent several people out to a**** the problem. They sent a very professional team who replaced the windows and were very prompt and professional.

I had a good experience with them. I was able to get fiberglass windows from them. According to consumer reports, fiberglass windows do not expand and contract as much as the vinyl windows do. Also, vinyl windows are not energy efficient. I had two other companies as options. However, they were more expensive than this company. They were top-notch. They installed the windows for me. They got the windows in time for me to get the tax credit. They worked with me and got in the windows within the schedule that was agreeable to me. They finished up early. They did a nice and clean job. They matched everything up. They were pleasant. They did what they said they were going to do. I paid $16000. I would have liked to pay less. I thought that the price was a little high. However, compared to the competitors, they were good. I will use them again in the future.

The initial installation went well. Beyond that, it has taken seven months to complete the job and to date, it is still not done. The communication between staff is less than stellar and I have had to be home a total of seven additional days beyond my installation to get the remaining work completed. At least half of those days were completely wasted time because the wrong parts were either ordered or sent to the job. Unless I called the General Manager directly, it would be difficult to get a response back from anyone else in the office. While the Pella product is a quality one, I did not expect that seven months beyond our installation that there would still be work remaining to be done. I also would have expected more professional handling of the project given the cost.

I called and a nice salesman came and gave me a bunch of brochures. He never told me these windows required any special treatment. A painter came out and used a razor blade to scrape off the paint which damaged the windows. I called back to Pella to let them know this. They said they would send someone out but they never did.

They came on two occasions. They were punctual. There was a question about the bill, and I didn?t want to pay the bill until I could get my question answered. I paid the money but I couldn?t understand the bill and they couldn?t answer me either. It was really disappointing. On the bill it looked like a figure that I was supposed to pay. It was supposed to be 20% off. When he figured it out it was only 13%. I asked them how it worked out. There was a difference of about $250. They said that was how the computer figured it out and that they didn?t do that. That was unsatisfactory. The doors were pretty highly priced too.

They sent someone to take the measurements. We went to Lowe?s after the person came in and took the measurement. We wanted their advice on what kind of windows we should go for. They came out and installed it. We made a request but it wasn?t fulfilled properly. We wanted them to use proper wood glue for interior window trim or molding the wood. Instead they used some other glue and used very little of it. They nailed in the wood molding. We had problems as they were not properly installed. It was not properly balanced. Finally they came out and found out a legitimate problem. We had a hard time with Lowes. They came out numerous times and did some work on fixing it. They had made some adjustments. We had six new windows put in. I am not 100% satisfied with the windows and I am not 100% satisfied with Lowes. It was too much of a headache. We had the windows installed during the fall of 2009. We recently had them come out again. I am very disappointed with them. Their price was too high in my opinion. I had installed high quality energy efficient windows, though. I would not recommend them.

I gave them a deposit, they gave me an installation date and they came to do the work on the date they had given.

They were very responsive and punctual. The sale representative came more than once. I don't remember whether the people that came out to do the job were independent contractors that Pella had hired or they worked for Pella, but they were very nice. They did a good job, they cleaned up and I was pleased with them overall. The price was a little high and probably competitive for what I was looking for. I don't want to say that I was looking for the higher end windows but I was looking for the windows that didn't have vinyl exterior because I have an older house and I wanted to maintain that integrity. They did another thing that I really appreciated. I had a very unusual window place that had to be replaced because the window was broken. The sales representative was the one that gave the redesign for it which was similar to the design that was there initially which was done a hundred years ago. That was one of the reasons that I was impressed by them.

They are a national company. The salesman, Bob Shaw, was excellent. He did a very fair evaluation of what they could do, and I think we got what we paid for. I believe if we had worked with either him or someone else we may have been able to bring the price down. We were satisfied with their service overall, though. We have windows downstairs that need to be replaced now, and are in the process of getting that done by them.

We feel like we got a lot for our money. Repeat customers get additional discounts. They guarantee their product. They were very professional and clean. They are very responsive and caring about our satisfaction towards the finished results.
