Putting aside for a moment his skills first let me say that Larry Chiarella is a class act and one of the nicest most thoughtful, professional, conscientious, tradesmen I’ve had do work for me in over 20 years of owning 7 different homes in 5 states. On top of that he’s an “old school” craftsman in a young man’s body with an extremely high level of attention to detail and drive to ensure things get done right. As I’m sure most reading this already unfortunately know, you just don’t find these attributes in many people these days, especially carpenters. Larry was recommended by some of the neighbors and I had a chance to review his portfolio of work and decided to retain him to build a portico onto the front of our home and to also repair superficial fascia board rot. He simply said to me, “give me a picture of what you want done and I can build it for you.” And let me tell you, build it he did! After methodically detailing how he would build the structure and why to use selected materials over others, he set out on the task. It started with installing triple beam pressure treated headers and supports to the house attached to 6” x 6” pressure treated supports secured to our granite and bluestone front entry steps, all covered with custom made azek molding ornately pieced together from routers, grinders, chop saws, etc., finished off with rout iron balusters connected to custom handrails, all in a transitional design complementing our homes style. I CANNOT tell you how many people literally stopped as they walked by the house or friends and family who commented as to how nicely the portico looked. And the final proof was when we recently sold the house in need of a larger space (yes just 4 miles down the road :o). We had 5 offers in 24 hours resulting in a bidding war and a sale price well over ask that closed on our timeline, etc. Yes very lucky and certainly a lot of other factors played into that but the portico definitely helped. For those looking for real craftsmanship at fair prices from someone you can trust in your home look no further than Chiarella Construction.
