"Super Service Today didn’t respond in a timely manner, over-quoted us by a thousand dollars, mis-diagnosed our problem in a way that could have proven catastrophic (if we hadn’t gotten a second opinion), and then tried to withhold the return of our deposit to try to get us to sign an “agreement” that we wouldn’t post a bad review. The order of events: 1. Response in a timely manner: Our toilet and two sinks overflowed, with water cascading down from that bathroom to the basement below. We went with Super Service Today because they were the first phone call to an emergency plumber to get through, and had reasonably good reviews online. The overflow stopped on its own, and the company said it wasn’t that much of an emergency, so they’d stop by between 8 and 10 the next morning. At 10am, I called them, as no one had shown up. They apologized and said someone would definitely be there by noon. At noon, I called them again, and told them we were going with another plumbing company. They said they’d sub-contract someone else, in order to keep control of the situation. The company they sent found the blockage, snaked the pipe, and hit a blockage in the sewer leading to the street; they couldn’t investigate further, because they were only sub-contracted. 2. Over-quote and mis-diagnosis: Super Service Today sent one of their plumbers to take a video of the sewer line. This person hit the same blockage and diagnosed the problem as tree roots, then laid out escalating packages to fix it. The lowest level (and what this plumber recommended wholeheartedly) was hydro-jet, a high-powered water burst that can clear tree roots; this was quoted at $1600. The next level was replacement of that segment ($5000 or so) or replacement of the whole sewer ($25000 or so). He said the problem as urgent, and urged us to pick the jet. I hesitantly agreed and paid the deposit. Later that day, I got uncertain and curious and looked up what other companies charged for hydro-jet, and found it was between $300 and $500. At this point, we cancelled our hydro-jet service with Super Service Today and searched for another company. The company we chose took a new video of the line and showed us the truth: there was a mis-join in the line, rather than tree roots, so the two segments were partially offset from each other. They told us that if we’d chosen the (overpriced) hydro-jet, we’d have likely created an enormous sinkhole and done catastrophic damage to our sewer system. We went with them for the repair of that sewer segment, which went smoothly. 3. Withholding our deposit and the agreement: We wanted to conclude business with Super Service Today and get our deposit back. Super Service Today sent us a legal document to sign in order to get our deposit; it stated that we would be prohibited from posting a negative review. I consulted a lawyer friend who confirmed that we needed no “agreement” to get our deposit back, and that this was fraudulent. They tried to force the issue one more time and only relented when we said we’d submitted a challenge claim to our credit card company for the charge. Then, they were very apologetic on the phone as they returned our deposit, as well as an extra $100 refund for our trouble."

Merrimack Valley Plumbing, LLC is a locally-owned and operated company committed to providing fast, affordable, and high-quality Plumbing. We offer HVAC repair, installation, and replacement services. We specialize in heating controls and simplifying complicated plumbing and HVAC systems to make them user-friendly. We strive to find solutions that fit everyone’s comfort needs, from construction projects to air conditioner replacement.
"I hired Merrimack Valley Plumbing to install a boiler in my home, and my experience was overwhelmingly disappointing. While the boiler functions, the installation process and quality of work raised numerous red flags. I want to share my experience to help others make an informed decision when considering this company. Installation Issues Code Violations: The exhaust is less than 3 feet from the gas meter, and the holes drilled in the joists for intake and exhaust are less than 2 inches from the bottom, both of which do not meet code requirements. Improper Venting: Both the exhaust and intake vents are installed too close to the ground (not meeting the 12-inch clearance required for expected snowfall) and are too close to each other (less than the 12-inch separation required). Unsealed Penetration: The hole drilled in the siding was left unsealed, creating a potential entry point for rodents. Condensate Drain Issues: The installed condensate pump is leaking and wasn’t tested. Additionally, rather than a permanent drain installation, they daisy-chained it into a pump for a portable air conditioner. Wiring Errors: The zones for the primary bedroom and second floor were wired backward, causing overheating in both areas. Missing Outdoor Sensor: The outdoor temperature sensor, critical for proper operation, was not installed. No CO Alarm: A carbon monoxide alarm was not installed, which is essential for safety. Unprofessional Workmanship: Trash, including a metal duct pipe, was left in the crawl space near live electrical wires. Process Concerns Permit Delays: The company failed to file permits before starting work. I only discovered this after contacting the town permitting office myself. Mismanagement and Delays: The project stretched far beyond the promised timeline, with repeated excuses about missing parts and limited crew availability, despite prior assurances that the job would be completed in two days. Broken Promises: They claimed a project manager would take measurements in advance to ensure a smooth installation, but no one came. Additionally, they rescheduled initially, promising a larger crew, only to send a single plumber on the first day. Misinformation and Deception Throughout the project, I encountered multiple instances where Merrimack Valley Plumbing provided misleading or false information: - They lied about the dates permits were filed. - They claimed delivery issues caused delays, though they should have anticipated these based on the advance photos provided. - They repeatedly shifted blame rather than taking accountability for the delays and issues. Overall Experience While the boiler itself works, the installation was riddled with code violations, safety oversights, and poor workmanship. Additionally, the company’s lack of transparency and repeated dishonesty made an already frustrating situation worse. I would not recommend Merrimack Valley Plumbing to others. Their lack of professionalism, disregard for safety codes, and failure to take responsibility for their mistakes created an unnecessarily stressful and costly experience."

At MillTown Plumbing, Heating, AC, Drain Cleaning & Electrical, we know the value of prompt, professional and reliable services and look forward to serving your needs in the Merrimack Valley. We're a same day/next day service company offering quality work and unbeatable service.
"I used to like them. Use them for my big install of backup basement sump pump. This time, I was out of the country, my rental property in MA needs a toilet fix. It was a standard water tank leak and we need to replace the inside mechanism. Milltown came and said 'rebulid the toilet', my wife authorize them to do it as I was not reachable at the time their plumber was at the rental property. They were in and out according to my tenant for at most 45 min, rebuilding two toilet tank and fixed the leak. The bill came to be 1200, $600 a toilet. One line item on the receipt is $470 for the kit they use to replace the plastic mechanism inside the water tank. I casually google the kit, I can get a universal sup kit for the toilet to replace that for $20. I called them, manager came on gave me that talk - we did hundreds of toilet leak and we average all of them to come up with the cost for that line item, which includes (a) parts (b) labor (c) our service guarantee for a prompt and reliable service Say they charge $200 /hr labor, 1 hr for two toilet is $100 labor for 1 toilet (remember, the plumber was there like 30-45 min rebuilding the two toilet). Say total parts are $100 (with markup), we are talking about $200 for fixing the leak of 1 toilet. They charged almost $600 for one toilet. You can do that math. I expect some up charge, but I am not paying $300 just for getting prompt reliable service. I turned around and asked for a few reliable plumber quote from Thumbstack with great reviews, most can do the job for $200 labor and I can get them the universal kit they will be able to come on the same day. So maybe if you want Milltown to do bigger job, that is ok. For smaller job, it does not worth it. Replacing the toilet flush mechanism is really not rocket science in plumbing. If I am not thousands of miles away, I would have done it myself after watching some Youtube video. I am willing to pay up charge for the service, but this is really above and beyond the normal up charge range, $1200 for a 30 min job replacing the toilet flushing mechanism in the water tank!!"

"STAY AWAY. Numerous issues and they will cost you more money without you knowing it. I just found out that I was on a **DO NOT SERVICE** list (after all the grief they have given me.) I am ticked off. Here is a summary due to the character limit: 1. They installed a faulty HTP tankless hybrid water heater. I argued with them for what I think was a good year before a HTP tech finally determined that I was right. Replaced it with a Rinnai RUR199in. 2. They took (stole) my oval ductwork and replaced it. I was fine with the replacement. I looked the other way but it was expensive and they never asked - they just hauled it away. Most homeowners probably do not realize how expensive and unusual that oval ductwork is. I could have even recycled it at a profit. 3. I recommended them to a neighbor only to find cops all over their home one day. Their plumber stole their special needs kids controlled medications after having them go into other rooms to turn on and off the faucets. I just chalked it up to a bad apple. 4. HUGE ROOKIE mistake. They short-cycled the new air handler. Vent was right next to the main return (2in. away.) Unecessary wear and tear, high electric and gas usage, and discomfort. Whatever was coming out was immediately suck back in. Unfortunately I did not realize this until a couple years later. 5. HUGE ROOKIE mistake. They never installed the 2-stage wiring. See directly above. Look it up. HUGE discrepancies in temperatures and sky high bills. Premature wear and tear. I wrote Freddy Jr. about this which might be the reason why I am on their list. But still, that is their job to get it right and not mine. Most people would have no clue for the life of their system. 6. They did not hook up the high-limit kill switch/float on the condensation pump which led to a flood and destroyed antiques. I hooked it up in less than 10 minutes. 7. I was told one day that the original manger was fired because he was skimming clients from the company. 8. There is no check valve on the recirculation line which they installed on the new tankless they replaced. I believe it is code and now I have to hire someone else ([business name removed]) to fix their screwup which likely killed my internal recirculation pump. Again, unecessary wear and tear along with high energy bills. I was willing to look the other way on so many things but the truth is they get away with this because most homeowners do not know any better. In other cases, I figured that no one is perfect and we all make mistakes. But then to find out that I was blacklisted a few years later because I called them out on their BS after I needed their help yesterday? The only thing I can think is that I ended up costing them more money on things they should have done properly in the first place. It is a company that needs better oversight and apparently has awful management. I am not bragging but I have an advanced engineeering background creating petroleum engineering training material for big oil (aka plumbing on steroids--makes this look like childs play), programming, developing systems for hydroponics, working with heat and waste recovery systems, fixing combustion engines, and building computers for over 20 years. My point is that I noticed a lot of things that most people would overlook because I know how many things work. I called them out and that is the only explanation as to why I could have been blacklisted. But do yourself a favor and go with [business name removed] or [business name removed] instead. It is not to say that others cannot screw up, but this is my experience with them and the straw that broke the camels back. Mention that you read this here and thank you. Perhaps the next company will not mess you up under the guise/protection of teamsters and protectionist unions that overcharge with ridiculous licensing requirements that ends up meani..."

Yes, most states require a plumber to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Check our state licensing tool to review the local plumber guidelines.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification, which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Fixing a gas leak costs about $45 to $150 per hour for a plumber or gas line specialist. The job’s overall cost will vary depending on the location of the leak. A leaky junction or connection behind the stove or dryer will likely cost about $120 to $170. But for a leak that requires a gas fitter or plumber to excavate a pipe in the yard, the cost could rise to $1,500 to $5,000. Keep in mind that gas leaks are very serious issues, so don’t hesitate to contact a plumber or gas line specialist immediately.
Fixing a gas leak can take anywhere from one to 24 hours, depending on the location and magnitude of the problem. A gas line specialist or gas plumber should be able to give you an estimated time to completion once they evaluate the situation. If your city’s utility company works to fix a gas leak, it will likely have information available about the anticipated time for gas service to be restored.
The cost of repairing a gas leak depends on the type of leak, its severity, and how difficult it is for the repair technician to reach it. Some of the most common gas line repair costs, on average, include:
Cap a gas line: $75–$150
Gas system inspection: $150
Pressure test: $75–$500
Damaged or corroded pipe: $6–$7 per linear foot
Repair gas leak: $120–$5,000
A local natural gas plumber, gas fitter, or gas line specialist should fix gas leaks. Installing gas lines and connections improperly can lead to dangerous gas leaks and explosions. Only a certified plumber or gas line specialist should run gas lines. This is not a job to try out DIY skills, so hire a professional gas plumber or gas line specialist immediately to find the cause of the leak and fix it quickly.
