34 years of life, packed up to be transported 4 states away. Unfortunately, after all the promises and planning it arrived with several pieces of broken furniture, a broken flat screen television, haphazard delivery, unclear inventory documents, with many incorrect statements in those documents. After all the commotion of the move was over, we realized that the team leader listed all of our 70 new boxes as crushed before loading on the truck! There were about 6 boxes that were makeshift, but not crushed. The 2 flat screens were bubble wrapped and inserted in specially purchased new boxes. The tv that arrived broken, was packed by my husband and one of the moving team. Also erroneously stated, all our upholstered furniture was listed as soiled! Which it is absolutely NOT. All of this information is listed in codes on the inventory sheets, which are given to the client to sign as the truck and crew are departing, on both ends. $628. of insurance that it was suggested we purchase but would pay pennies of the value of the items damaged, in the end. Also, the insurance does not cover any item you pack yourself, which we learned AFTER the move. In our opinion, the insurance provided no value. At the loading point, our possessions were neatly placed, and we were told it was a full load. At the unload, our possessions were piled to the ceiling at the front end of the truck, and the back half was loaded with church pews headed for PA. Many of our boxes arrived crushed, probably by the weight of the piling. Luckily, I had packed 45 heavy plastic totes with breakables that arrived safely. Several of the crushed boxes are yet to be unpacked, so I don't know if their contents are safe. Beyond the nearly $7000. It cost us we have at least 5 pieces of damaged furniture and a broken television, that was about a year old, and is now in the dump. This was our first move in 34 years. We expected more. There was certainly no pot of gold at the end of this Rainbow.

The workers and the driver (Norm) were professional and courteous. They arrived on time completed their duties and then some. my belongings arrived on time. The men set up my bedding and placed all my furniture with great care. This company made my moving experience quite pleasant and eliminated much of the stress associated with a move like this. And to add to this great experience I paid less than the estimated price. Highly recommend this company
Description of Work: I boxed everything except a mirror, a tv and a framed piece of art. The truck arrived on time with a driver and 2 crew members. They packed my entire house in Franklin, ma and moved the contents to Palm Harbor, Fla. when they arrived in Fla. (same driver) they removed and set up all furniture and bedding

Great move; great company! See above for details....
Description of Work: I was transfered up to Massachusetts last April, and Rainbow Movers/N. American Van Lines handled my move. Having been in the moving industry for over 22 years, I was ready to see if they met the standard I had always held my previous companies to. Boy, did they pass with flying colors! Not only was the driver professional, punctual, and nice, but he backed the truck down the entire length of my street & through the gate so that he could access my apartment & not have to charge me a shuttle fee. He also helped me pack some last minute items with no complaints about me not being ready! Rainbow's Move Coordinator, Pam Desmarais, was very helpful, and kept in touch before, during, and after the move. I also put my things in their storage facility for 3 months, and they delivered everything...with nothing broken or missing. Their local Rainbow crew who moved me from storage were just as wonderful as the long-distance crew. They were careful, friendly, patient, and a lot of fun to work with. I would highly recommend Rainbow Movers for both long-distance moves and local moves. You'll be really happy with their services!!

We hired Rainbow Movers/North American Van Lines moved our household from Boston to California. All of the movers(people) were great HOWEVER they told us that they needed to store our items (at the cost of $1,200) for an additional several days or it would arrive in California before we were there to receive it. We arrived to CA prior to the delivery window and shortly there after were notified that our belongings would not arrive for an additional week after the last date of the delivery window. Kevin C. Piscitelli, CRP, CEO of Rainbow Movers agreed (over the phone) that we should be reimbursed for the cost of the storage. When I sent him the amount we expected to be reimbursed he back peddled and said that it was North American Van Lines fault and not Rainbow Movers. We are now seeking legal action to be reimbursed for this false estimate/unnecessary service charged. Rainbow Movers passed the buck. Although we hired 'them' they took our money and our stuff and then told us that we needed to deal with North American Movers for any complaints, etc. They did not act as a responsible or professional 'agent'. In fact their role proved useless. Rainbow Movers refused to be accountable to us as a representative of North American Van Lines. If you want 'someone' to be responsible and accountable to you then I would NOT hire Rainbow Movers. I am sorry for their employees...the movers...who were all very nice and good. Unfortunately, the company proved to be dishonest. I believe that Kevin C. Piscitelli and Rainbow Movers intend to take advantage of the weary mover in hopes that they will not try to recover costs that were unnecessarily charged to them. When you finally get your stuff, you are so glad, and you have soo much work to do (unpacking, etc.) that I suspect most people just say 'whatever'. Don't let Rainbow Movers get away with this. Hire someone else.

It was a bit of a mixed blessing. I was mostly happy with it. They had to move into three vehicles to get it out of the road. I had no damage to my things including many antiques. They worked hard, got done on time, and were polite. I was very pleased with there work. I had a little difficulty with their salesman. I don't know if it was only this particular salesman. But we were able to work something out that I though was fair and he was apologetic.

First, the movers showed up in two rental trucks rather than a Rainbow/Allied van, which was a little disconcerting. They explained that the move of the other day didn't go smoothly because of closing problems and the owners stuff was all packed. OK, that makes sense. All going well until we got to the treadmill. Then it took all three of them to figure out how to take it apart in order to move it, and it took close to an hour. When you're paying by the hour, this is a little frightening. At the location to store the treadmill, we went through the whole thing again in reverse. We get to the condo, all goes smoothly. They can't get the dining table or couch in the door and they heft it over the side of a rear balcony. OK. Good. Then comes the three big pieces. They try to get it up the staircase, despite my warnings that we'd said it would probably need to go in a window. (It said so right on the contract.) One piece got wedged and scraped. My desk's leg broke off. The wall was gouged. So, I remind them that we never thought it would go up the stairs in the first place and they said they needed another person on the crew to put things through the window, that they hadn't been told beforehand and didn't have the right equipment. We called the main office. It's now three hours over schedule and I have no desk, dresser or chest of drawers. They bring everything back to my old house to await instructions from headquarters. The movers tried their best, worked very hard, were pleasant. I didn't feel it was there fault, but rather a gap somewhere back at the main office. The wrong crew was sent, they weren't informed what the job would take. I tipped them generously. So the salesman/mover brings back the desk and one dresser (I gave up on the chest of drawers, realizing the space was too small for everything anyway). He takes the window apart and in about two hours, he and one other person bring the stuff up a ladder like it was carrying groceries. No big deal. Just the wrong crew. Very sorry. Very sorry that it cost $300 more than we estimated and we broke your furniture and gouged your (rental) wall. We'll fix the desk. Days pass. Nothing. I call. I have to fill out a claim form. Huh? What happened to "Of course we'll fix it." My desk is lying upside down with it's feet in the air like some kind of big dead animal, and it's taking up HALF of my new down-sized living space. I ask how long it will take and why I was told it was a simple fix and would be done quickly, so sorry, so sorry, and the guy gets snitty, like this is MY fault. It depends on the extent of the damage and the cost of the repair. It's now been almost two weeks. I've left messages and I've called.
Description of Work: On the strong recommendation of my broker, I hired Rainbow Movers to help me move from a house in Millis to a very small condo in Jamaica Plain. I did get competitive quotes, and they were in the same range as two other movers, so with that strong recommendation I hired Rainbow Movers. The salesman was very nice, responsive, provided me with free used boxes, a great help when you're in financial crises. Some of the pieces I owned were large and the space I was moving to was small and featured a spiral metal staircase. I was concerned there would be problems fitting things in. So the salesman went to the condo, met with the rental agent, looked at the space, measured. He said if there were problems it would be an easy fit to put things through a window, do it all the time. And there was a treadmill that had to go to a separate location.

I received a binding estimate from three moving companies - a binding estimate is one where they quote you a price and will not exceed it unless more is moved than was in the house when the estimate was made. Rainbow Movers gave the lowest price and so we went with them. The sales representative came to my house and I asked her for an estimate including everything in the house except for only 75% of what we had in the attic and half of what we had in the basement. We planned to have a large yard sale and toss a bunch of stuff in the garbage. I also told her that we would not be taking a treadmill and microwave cart. When the movers arrived weeks later (1.5 hours EARLIER than I was told - at 7:20AM) they were shocked at how much stuff I was moving. The treadmill was coming after all, as was the microwave cart. In this case only, I was wrong, however all the rest was unchanged from the estimate. In fact, we got rid of: a sofa, two large overstuffed chairs, and decided to leave a gas oven/stove range that we though we might take. I was still well under the binding estimate, I thought, because there was no way a treadmill and empty microwave cart equaled more than a sofa, two chairs, and a gas range. The truck the movers brought was too small, so I had to rent a minivan and cart a bunch of stuff myself (including the microwave cart!). The following day one of the bosses called me and told me that there were a lot of things moved that were not on the estimate and they were going to charge me $300 more. They already had my credit card number and all my stuff (this phone call was before delivery). They had me over a barrel. Some of the items he said were moved and not on the binding estimate were a second air conditioner, a piano bench, wardrobes, etc. I swear, all of those items were present at the estimate! It turns out, the second air conditioner was mistaken by the sales rep at the estimate to be a dehumidifier. The piano bench was a vanity stool that we were using as an end table and the rep recorded it as that on the estimate. The wardrobes were marked on the estimate, clear as day. So, this boss - Ken was his name - took a great deal of time to tell me what was moved into the truck, but not on the estimate, but never looked to see, or listened to me, what was ON THE ESTIMATE, BUT NOT ON THE TRUCK. So I paid $300 more than was guaranteed to me for items that were listed as present at the estimate. Also, Ken insinuated that I was lying when I informed him that I had told his rep when we would be closing on our new house - they had scheduled delivery on the morning of the closing before we would own the house and had to reschedule last minute. Lastly, the driver of the moving crew was so rude and obviously aggravated that he gave some of my larger appliances (esp. a dryer) very rough treatment coming out to the truck. All in all, Rainbow Movers was the worst company I've ever dealt with - IN ANY CAPACITY - in my life so far.

He tried to get the desk out of my room & could not get it out. He asked how it was moved in the room & I told him the other movers took the desk apart & then put it back together. He said he was not going to take it apart. He took the molding & frame off the door, & ruined it. I also had a very fragile, valuable antique piece that I told him could not be broken. When he arrived in Houston he told me it was broken & he glued it back together without my permission. He also took apart a very heavy mirror & did not put it back together. There was a piece that was taken off the bottom of a bookcase, the wood is splintered & he did not put the piece back on. All of the furniture was scratched or nicked. It was the second worst move that I've had & I will never use North American Movers again. His helpers were very nice & professional, but he was not. It was not worth the $8,000 I had to pay to move. He yelled at me & said he didn't have time to let me count the boxes.
