I got 2 estimates from 2 other chimney companies before choosing Horizon. I choose Horizon over the other guys for the following reasons. The other guys cost to do the estimate/inspection was higher than Horizon. The other guys estimates were higher than Horizon. The other guys told me I needed a new flue liner when the one I had just needed to be re-aligned. One of the other guys sent a chimney sweep/cleaner out to do an estimate for a complicated project - needless to say he was not qualified to give an estimate and they had to send someone else out (what a waste of my time).... Horizon was great on all aspects of the job this is why I gave them an "A" rating and will use again.....

Paul arrived when he said he would. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything. He first inspected everything on the inside and outside. Then he cleaned the chimney and oil flue. Then he instructed me on how to use everything. He also made recommendations.

My wood stove had backed up and a small pinhole was letting smoke into the room for days. Our CO detector was not working properly. Horizon came out to assess the problem. Several of my pipes were 30 years old and had started disintegrating. I was very pleased with the service.

They came and inspected the chimney on my new home. Advice was freely exchanged on how to best use my new fireplace. Everything went fine.

Derek returned my call quickly and we arranged for him to come inspect the chimney and flues. The date was later than I had wanted but the time of year is very busy for this business. He very kindly reviewed with me how to make a successful fire and gave me a little anatomy lesson on the flue system in my house (I asked him to tell me everything I needed to know about my house). The fireplace flue in this 88 year old house is apparently in great shape. However, the furnace flue was crumbling and filled with debris. Derek was very impressed with the amount of soot, etc that he vacuumed out. He showed me what bad shape the flue was in and easily convinced me to get a new one installed (another house lesson). The price for his service was about $370, which seemed high but I don't know what the going rates are. Perhaps prices are higher in the winter. The price for the flue was going to be about $2000; I was shocked at the price but agreed to the job; the company had great reviews on this site, Derek was nice and professional and, again, I thought the time of year would make things pricier (my zip code probably had something to do with it, too). About three weeks later, the team came to install the new flue. They were very friendly; they, as well as Derek, loved my dogs and that was fantastic. The flue crew told me that they'd take several hours but I think they were done in about one. I was VERY happy with that because it was cold and I wanted my heat back on. As far as I can tell, they did a great job and I intend to stick with the company for annual chimney cleanout and maintenance.

I determined that the chimney had not been constructed properly (flue tiles were exposed to flammable materials) which resulted in me not being able to use the fireplace. Instead of having my chimney reconstructed I wanted a fireplace insert which would also provide heat. Derek came to inspect everything and provide a quote on 9/26/12 for. In addition to seeing the issue with the flue tiles he and his team also determined that the current liner and cap for the boiler were rated for gas, not oil. Derek gave me an option between a standard cap or a custom cap. The custom cap and the insert were the bulk of the cost. On 10/26 Derek arrived promptly with Paul and Brad to complete all the work. They were professional, knowledgable, used quality products and were neat. Not only did I get to use my fireplace again, it heats my house and the repiping from the boiler to chimney resulted in my boiler running more efficiently (added a damper). The work was completed in 1 day. I would recommend Derek and his team to my friends and family without hesitation.

Ask them to come clean two chimneys, he examined them both, cleaned one and then much to hiss credit said the other one needs some work before I clean it, gave me an estimate and suggested I get some other estimates for the work; I did all agreed the work needed to be done, but all wanted more to do it! So I will be using them again very shortly

He showed up early, did the job with full explanations all the way, and left everything clean.

They arrived when expected and were extremely courteous, professional and exceedingly informative on what they were doing and why. The examined my second flue and discovered work that was needed but were not pushy about my having it done. They not only explained why it needed to be done but they brought me down to the basement and showed me exactly what they were looking at. I also found out that all this time that I was having my chimney cleaned not one of the prior companies I used ever told me that my liner did not go the entire lent

Really excellent. I don't often write reviews, but I felt compelled to based on the shear quality that these guys provide from start to finish. They responded to my initial online inquiry within 1 day, explained very clearly what service they would provide and how the process would happen. Then they accommodated our busy schedule by coming within a few days on a weekend when we could be home. The guy who came (I think it was Brad?) was extremely knowledgeable, was punctual, very professional, and took his time explaining things in both a detailed and understandable way. There were things that they could have tried to upsell us, but he stated that sometime in the future these were things that one might want to consider, but at no point did he say we needed to do those things now (monitor a crack in the side of the chimney, etc). 10% discount with Angie's List coupon. I thought the price was reasonable given the time he spent and for peace of mind. I'd highly recommend these guys if you are a chimney neophyte like me and just want to be sure that things are safe and clean for our family for the holiday season.

They had a deal through Angie's list that we were able to take advantage of. Even without the deal they were still less expensive than other companies I called. The guy who came out to our house was great - he pointed out a few things that we will need to look out for in the future that were not issues right now plus gave quotes on fixing those items as well. They came out and performed the exact services I asked and didn't try to sell me on all the "extras" that companies often try to do which I appreciated. Very friendly service and would definitely use them again.

It had been at least 3 years since the last cleaning. After calling the co. They returned my call at the end of the day. Derek and Paul showed up in the time frame that was stated. They went right to work. They cleaned the chimney and the clean out area. They cleaned up after themselves. They were very professional and pleasant. They went over important info with me. I felt they knew what they were doing and they did it very well. I will definitely use them again AND I will give their name out when friends ask about Chimney Cleaners.

Initial service was a standard wood stove flue cleaning. Nature of the residue indicated that a chimney fire had occurred sometime during the prior heating season. The followup service included removing the remaining creosote coating and a video inspection of the flue which found numerous cracks in the clay flue liner. Conclusion is that the flue needs to be replaced. While not welcome news, they identified a safey problem which would have led to more extensive damage if we continued to use the existing flue. Horizon Chimney provided the necessary documentation which allowed a claim for flue replacment to be processed quickly with my insurance company.

I called Horizon (along with several other companies) for pricing on a chimney repair. They were the only company who responded, and Derek was helpful, professional, up front and pleasant to talk to. His price was very fair for the work quoted. After booking them, I found out the the plumber was going to fix the holes (which he created), and I emailed to cancel. I failed to follow up with a phone call, and today I got a confirmation call, followed by a call from the mason, who was at my house. They could have been frustrated and impatient with me, but both messages were completely professional and kind. I feel like a dope, but I will TOTALLY call them any time my chimney needs service. I was truly impressed with this company's professionalism.

Derek performed the installation without any assistance. He arrived on time, worked diligently, cleaned up after himself, and had my water heater up and running again within three hours. Great job!

Very Professional, Knollegable and Competitivly Priced. They came at first to sweep the chiminey and they pointed out that one of the fireplaces needed a new brick and repointing. They schedualed the service the same day showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves and very polite. Would highly recomend them to anyone.

Derek and Paul came during the time they said they would; were very friendly and nice. They were also very efficient and thorough. The price was exactly what he had quoted over the phone. VERY happy with their service and will absolutely use them again!

I contacted Horizon to quote on a new chimney insert. I am preparing to get an updated oil burner and found out that I needed this replaced. I will tell you up front that I did not hire Horizon only because I decided to go with the recommendation from my oil burner installer - however I was very impressed with the responsiveness of Horizon getting back to me - not to mention their patience in answering all my questions and educating me as to what I needed to do with this type of repair.

Derek and team did a great job and we plan to use them when we find an insert.

They put in a damper system and masonry work, put a new cap on and some liner work in the chimney. They were very good and came on time. They did the work properly and did not leave a mess. They explained things very well and had all the proper paper work. The staff was very knowledgeable. Due to dry weather here I have not been able to use the fireplace to make sure the work was completely good.

Very professional company. Did great quality work quickly. Basically disassembled chimney and removed loose bricks and mortar. The height of the chimney was increased by several feet to bring it up to code. I had old Cape cod bricks which aren't made anymore and they found bricks to match. Once the chimney was repaired a custom cap was put on it.

Brad arrived at 2. He was extremely efficient and obviously knew what he was about. He scoped out the problem, visiting the basement, and the third floor, where we had renovation work last month. He concluded that debris had fallen into the chimney somehow, or banging during the renovation work had made stuff inside the chimney fall down. There were two holes in the chimney that had not been filled, so there was a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, he said. He was very adept at filling those holes, and ingenious in finding spare bricks for that work in my garden. The initial visit cost $298. The clean-out door he created and installed cost $195. There was also a charge for $150 for filling the holes in the chimney upstairs, so overall, the whole incident turned out to be more costly than I would have liked. Still, I felt he did the job competently, advising me that I should install a chimney liner at a future time, writing out an estimate. When I said I wanted to take the chimney down, installing water heaters that vented outside, he agreed that might be an equally valid option. I rated the price a C, because I would have liked the job to cost less, but this was not a normal situation of having a chimney cleared out and I did not have time to compare pricing on Angies' List prior, simply calling the first two companies I found. I knew it would be expensive, since I was having the job done in emergency mode, on the suggestion of the NStar guy who warned me about possible carbon monoxide.

As it was a fair estimate we contracted the work. That evening, we were called to schedule the work. The quality of the work was excellent. Workmen were friendly, efficient, clean, prompt and careful.
