If I could give zero stars I would. We were unfortunately contracted to use R.B. Sturgis to plow our home and private drive. Not one plow this year has come even close to decent. The plow drivers obviously have no idea how to plow. The first time they didn’t come at all. Every time after that they came hours upon hours late and then did a quick barely there touch to the snow leaving a sheet of ice and never came back. Then this last storm they thought it was a good idea to rip up our yard and bushes apart and leave such a massive pile of snow in front of our walkway that it is completely impassable. The service has been beyond appalling. They also plowed all the snow in front of my neighbors garage and left. They literally couldn’t leave their house. How crazy is that? The one plow driver my husband tried to talk to seemed to be on drugs and was completely out of it. On top of that we have had zero response over the last week in regards to our impassable walkway. My understanding is the business was sold last summer. The new owner should be absolutely ashamed. Any positive reviews you see from the past are invalid. I am honestly horrified should anyone ever use this business. Please trust me and do not ever use them for any service or you will be very sorry as I am.

They were good, efficient. The only thing is, all they did was put boxes around which I could have done myself and I could have gotten from home depot.

Very competent. Work is good. Communication could have been better - at times workers showed up when we were not expecting them, making it difficult to make sure that things were executed to plan.

They showed up the first time and then after that there was one specific thing that...lets say, they have a menu of services and I wanted them to add to the menu. They completely disregarded that. They haven't showed up since their initial May visit with repeated phone calls and they came and only did part of what I asked, two times. So they haven't fulfilled the contract. It was supposed to be like 4 fertilizations and weed killers and they only came one time plus two sort of partial times when they said, yeah I did it and I was like, no you didn't. Then the messages where not getting through with the office help. They did come out but only did part of what I asked for. They only did part of the front yard and ignored the back. I will not use them again. My lawn is now trash.

Roger's team was excellent. They were on time, did a thorough job, cleaned up all debris in the yard and on the driveway. The team answered any questions I had along the way. This is the second time I have used Roger for tree and yard work. I would use him and his team again.

He runs a large business and is not responsive to neighbors

We used this company for three seasons. The quality of the work was fine, but the price was high, and the administrative office was extremely disorganized.

Cleaned gutters, mulched, edged, planted flowers, pulled out huge bushes, and weed whacked.

They did a great job on the beds, they didn't trim the bushes as well as I wanted. They left tire tracks in the grass that need to be repaired. The seeding of the lawn was worthless. I watered 3 times per day per their recommendation. I spend several thousand in water with little to show for it. They said they would redo it and I spend more on water. I still have bare spots at the locations they say they twice put down dirt and seeded. I had used them for several years and had good results. But now they just don't followup.

He has done snow removal for many years. He also does landscaping for us in the spring. He charges by the end. It was a very light snow. It was a very fair and clear contract, that is why I like him. He is exact. He comes and puts wooden post so that they do not plough out everything except on the driveway. He has done it for years and he is reliable and good. Most landscapers from my experience show up when they want too except for snow removal. I have been using him for 20 years and I will keep using him.

I like this company. It's a good one. But there are a few things preventing it from being a great one. I called Sturgis after receiving a flyer in the mail. Roger came out and listened to my needs. He seemed knowledgeable and he even offered some advice. I told him what I wanted and he said he'd get me a quote. I was eager to get going. Unfortunately, it took a little longer than I would have liked to get a quote. Finally it came in and it was reasonable so I proceeded. Here is what I like about Sturgis: 1) Very friendly and nice, especially Matt and the tree crew. They were respectful of my family and small children. 2) Wiling to listen to my concerns and do what it takes to please the customer 3) Prices were competitive 4) Were good about cleaning up 5) Knowledgeable and skilled at removing tall/technical trees. What I didn't like: 1) Sometimes takes a little time to get estimates. I suspect it could be because they are really busy. Perhaps they don't have a lot of extra time for new customers or perhaps they need more estimators. 2) There was a lot of breakdown in communication between estimators and workers. More than once did I hear that the job was underestimated or the workers weren't aware of what I had discussed with estimator. 3) Scheduling the work seemed to be last minute. It wasn't uncommon to get a late night call telling us they were coming first thing in the morning. 4) They sometimes seemed unprepared for the job....not enough mulch, not enough time in the day, too small of a crane. As a result, the job required many visits. 5) They didn't use enough mulch in some places. Weeds are growing through and in some cases they were sloppy with the mulch. 6) I realize removing trees can be messy and can sometimes cause damage. However, there are a couple larger than average divots in my lawn now and I'll need to fill them in and plant grass. Also, my driveway was damaged. It's an old driveway and I plan to replace it but I'll have to replace it sooner than I hoping. Overall, I'm content. My property is nicer and I'm benefiting from having the trees gone. I will likely use Sturgis again assuming they have time and can tighten up the communication. I'm ready to plant that new tree whenever you can get me an estimate :)

They were very responsive to phone calls and got somebody out for an estimate right away. The price was reasonable, and we agreed to go ahead. The work was completed less than a week later! Very quick turn around. Very professional. The lawn looks great, and they cleaned up after themselves well. Will recommend them to others.

It took all day and the grass is coming up. So it looks good.

Year after year, I have just want I wanted, continual color through out the season

The work performed was adequate. However, Roger agreed with me when we signed the initial contract that because there were no trees on our property that the fall cleanup and gutter clean-up would likely be minimal work and they would charge less than their $265 stated rate. When the clean-up actually happened, there was no communication with me and I was billed the full rate. Eight subsequent emails and calls over 3 months went unanswered, at which point I paid what I felt was a fair amount for the services rendered. When they called me (finally) to ask why I hadn't paid the full amount, I explained the situation. Rather than gracefully apologizing and moving on, they demanded that I pay an additional $100. They also gave me an accounting for the time of the personnel that were on-site that double-counted the work done by one person (charging for him doing gutter clean-up and fall clean-up at the same time). I would not recommend this service provider.

After numerous calls following the home visit no one would ever calm is back.

The new front stairs and walkway were done 3 years ago and they are fine. However, the lawn care was fraught with lack of communication and a lawn that resulted in total crab grass and grass-less patches.

Called to get an estimate to have an old cement/flagstone front walk replaced. The office called back to schedule the appointment, Roger (the owner) arrived on time and was very knowledgeable and friendly. His quote was approximately the same as another reputable company in the area that I had quote out the job. I gave Roger's company the job and gave a deposit to get on their schedule. They told me about a 3 week leadtime when they quoted the job. They were right around that time frame. The crew did a very nice job on the walk. I was only their for a little while in the morning while they were getting started. They seemed professional and got started right away on removing the old walk. When the job was completed, the area was very clean and the walk looked great. I noticed one problem with the walk not widening when it got near the porch and Roger and I had spoke about that. I called the office and explained the problem and asked Roger to come out and see the walk. When Roger came out and saw the walk, he was very apologetic and remembered our conversation. He had his crew there the next day to correct the problem. I was impressed with his responsiveness and that he made it right without any issue. I would happily recommend Roger to anyone looking for quality work and more importantly, someone that stands behind his work.

They impressed us the first time they plowed by also shoveling our walkway and steps--something they never did subsequently, however. Their plowing was fine, but they sometes didn't show up early enough for us to get out to work, which was a real pain. Once the plow driver gouged a huge trough in our lawn, but to the company's credit they did fix and reseed it in the late spring (we did have to call twice to remind them). This year they placed their customary driveway marker sticks but never showed up to plow; after two major snow storms I finally reached them and they said I had not signed a contract for the season. Fair enough, but could they have called to check? Decided the negatives outweighed the positives for this company.

I had a few questions after putting down a deposit to get on his schedule. We never heard back even after leaving a few calls. We eventually cancelled the work since we were concerned about punctuality and knowing when the work would be done, and there was only a short window of opportunity left in the planting season. I may have jumped the gun by cancelling, but I just prefer someone a bit more responsive. That said, he was one of the most knowledgeable landscapers we've ever talked to. Maybe he just needs help returning calls?

Roger's crew did a great job. They estimated it would be a 1-2 day job and would let me know when they were coming over. They emailed me before arriving. Roger was there in the morning with the crew and went over the job. The crew then started removing the old walkway. They had most of the new walkway completed in the first day, but needed to come back the second day to finish the job. They left the site clean and the walkway covered with a tarp that night. The next morning, the finished by noon and left the site clean. I am very happy with the job they did and find Roger an easy person to work with.

It went okay but there was a little dispute on what he had to do. I think it was just that he forgot. We talked about it when he came back out and he corrected himself. He did a great job. The people who came out did a nice clean-up job and cleaned up after themselves. They worked high up in the trees and got rid of a lot of questionable hanging branches. I am having a new shed put in so I did not want branches coming down on my new shed. I have called him back to take a look at another job. We are in the process of designing some things for my back yard so I am happy with the guy.

Very dissappointing this year. Had contract to shovel my walkway. Never received that service. had to shovel myself all winter, but still received bills from company, and no response from company when complained. Also impossible to talk to a manager. Phone clerks just tell you they are unavailable and will get back to you but they never do. They don't seem to care one bit about the customer. They are also very pricey. I would never use them again.

He is a nice guy and followed through with the work. He was competent.
