Very well. The person who took my call was very professional. He asked a lot of questions about what we need to do and the area. Someone came by later that day and they followed up by emailing us an estimate. The estimate was very reasonable.

I meant to do a review sooner long ago, but never got around to it. However, I referred my cousin to McNulty in 2013, and she had part of her driveway redone, plus a new French drain. Same great service, same knowledgeable professionals, same difficulty with getting a timely return call back (!). In 2008 and 2009, they did a great job, performed as promised, complete with cobblestone margins. Driveway is properly sloped so the water runs into my land and not into the river or wetlands. That was a big concern for me.
Description of Work: Paved my driveway, in two steps: first, gravel preparation in the late fall of 2008; then full paving in summer 2009. Too late to pave in the fall, so job completed the following summer.

McNulty had been recommended to us by a neighbor and they were our preferred bidder. From the start we were attracted to their professionalism and no-nonsense approach. However McNulty's price was the highest of the three we received. Even with the walkway deleted the paving work was about 25% higher than the next bidder. In the end, although we preferred McNulty based on the recommendation and our experience with their quotation, we could not overcome the higher price.
Description of Work: We contacted McNulty and requested a quote to pave our 2,100 sqft. driveway with asphalt and add a 100 sqft. paving stone walkway. Their response was very prompt and friendly, and Jack McNulty visited the next day to measure the driveway. He was very friendly and measured the driveway quickly. His quote was received that evening. I had a question about their service, and they responded immediately with the information I needed.

After phoning McNulty Construction we were informed by the office that some one would come by to look at the area where we wanted to extend our driveway. They said this person would not need to see us. The person never rang the bell even though somebody was home at all times during the time span when they said they would be here. We wanted to point out a large rock in the area that might be difficult to remove or need to have a rock splitter deal with it. After several days we received an estimate in the mail. Even though the estimate was not the highest we decided that we didn't want to deal with this company. As the homeowners we wanted to be able to express our concerns and needs in person. They were the only company that did not interview us at the site to address our problem. We got the feeling that they really were not interested in the job. It struck us as an unprofessional approach.
Description of Work: We wanted to extend one side of our driveway about 28 feet.

I first contacted McNulty's office (and spoke to Ernie) on 9/13/11 and although he told me that their schedule was booked solid until November (I had heard similar stories from other contractors), I explained that the company I had used the past 12 years had closed without warning and that I feared that if left until next year, the sink hole that had hollowed out the asphalt over the bridge could cause major damage to the culverts underneath if left in disrepair until next year. He said he would speak to John McNulty Sr to see if he could take a look the following day. He must have come by when I was not home because 2 days later I received a proposal, which I subsequently accepted. Even though scheduling the actual job was a little tricky due to their backed up jobs and I called them in mid-October for an update, they did finally get it done before November! John McNulty Jr. called me on 10/21 and let me know that they would be doing the job on 10/24/11. As promised he arrived with his foreman and crew and 2 large trucks. They inspected the area, cleaned out the hole, made the necessary repairs to any cracks in the culvert using cement and then filled and covered the area with asphalt topper. John and his men were professional, efficient, and he even took a look at some other questionable "spungy" areas in my driveway closer to the garage - which he has agreed to look at and fix next spring. I will be using his services again and am happy to have found someone to help me maintain a large driveway! Thank you.
Description of Work: Repaired a sink hole that formed on the asphalt on the bridge (over two culverts) on my driveway due to all the storms, floods and recent rains the past summer and fall. In the past 12 years I had used another company that closed recently and I was left without a paving repair and sealcoating company. I went through Angie's list and I also got a list from my town of some possible pavement contractors that have had no complaints listed with the town. McNulty was one of the contractors listed and also came highly recommended by Lighthouse Landscape who I use for landscape, lawncare, and snowplowing.

I had emailed McNaulty three times and put in two phone calls which were never returned until I put in a request for service in via Angie's List. Within a few days I received a call from the company stating they had received a request "via Angie's List" about an estimate on paving our driveway. I returned the call although I was unimpressed that it took " the list" to get them to respond. I left a message stating what times were good to contact us. I did not receive a call-back but a few days later found their business card stuck in the door. Approx. a week later received an estimate that was twice the price of another company I had gotten prompt and pleasant attention from. I am going with the other company.

We have a house that was built about 7 years ago. We had a gravel driveway, and so we decided to have it asphalted. I got quotes from 3 other providers, and all their prices were on par. I saw the driveway laid by one provider, and it was sloppy. The edges were messy and there was asphalt on the lawn. The one that McNulty had done was good. They did a really good job, and the edges were very sharp, clean and neat. The price was slightly less expensive than the others'. I am very pleased with them.

It went well. The only small negative comment I would make is that once I committed to having the work done by paying a 10% deposit, McNulty did not get back to me for almost 2 weeks about when the job would be scheduled. I think once they cashed my deposit, they should have called and at least explained how the scheduling process works. Other than this, I was very impressed by their professionalism and their work.
Description of Work: Estimated cost to partially and totally replace the driveway- recommended the cheaper option. Partially dug up driveway where necessary and paved the driveway with asphalt. Very high quality work and very professional.

Very polite and professional. They came out very quickly to look over the work, and a detailed proposal arrived within a day or two. Of the five bids that I received for this job, McNulty Construction's bid was the second highest. After a careful comparison of all proposals and getting the advice of a friend in the construction business, I decided that there was no particular reason to give them the work. However, I would certainly consider them for future projects.

The project went smoothly overall. The price was $2800 less than the other estimate I received. I waited about a month to have it done which was what was estimated. The only communication problem I had was when I called to find out approximately when it would be done (so I would know whether to wait on having mulch delivered), the person who answered the phone said he couldn't tell me anything and was rude about it. The installation went very smoothly. The crew was very polilte, answered my questions, were knowledgeable and cleaned up when they were done. They came about 7am and were done by about 1pm. The driveway looks great. My only complaint was in one place where we didn't want the driveway put back, they backfilled with rock-filled dirt/sand which can't be used for planting grass or anything else. It would have been better if they'd left it unfilled and let us fill it with real dirt.

They came by quickly to give an estimate, which arrived promptly in the mail. We went ahead, although they didn't tell us what day until the night before. On the appointed day, they came in with different crews to mark, dig out the old, and lay the new. It took less than a day altogether, and the result looks great.
Description of Work: We had sinkholes in an asphalt driveway which had been put on top of fill, along with some erosion under a concrete apron in front of the garage. The project was to dig out the bad areas, fill in the base, and resurface.

Jack McNulty arrived as scheduled to look at job (a 30' driveway and new sidewalks). Proposal was the middle of three that I obtained. I went with McNulty because they seemed the most responsive and professional and, besides, the cost difference wasn't that great (less than 10% higher than the low bidder). Office staff was friendly and professional. McNulty obtained dig safe and local permits as required. They showed up as scheduled (with a crew of about seven guys) and cranked through the job in about three hours. The quality of the work was very good. I'd hire them again.

We contacted 3 different people from Angie s List and decided to go with these guys because they were a little less expensive than the others. They came exactly when they said they would, and I would recommend them.
Description of Work: We had them pour our 300 square foot driveway, after removing the old one. They also corrected a problem we had with water collecting, in the front of our garage door that was causing icing in the winter. They sloped it enough for the water to run off. They also made a pull out along side the driveway for another car. The work took a week.

After trying several other places, who often didn't return our calls, we called McNulty due to their good reports here. They returned our call the same day and were out to inspect the work to be done within a few days. We received a written quote in the mail within 2-3 days. Only concern was that they listed no guarantee, and upon calling them for clarification, they said they do not give guarantees for patchwork - I'm not completely comfortable with that, but felt we had no choice. I sent in a deposit, and 2-3 weeks later they called to say they would be doing the work the next day (we did not ask for urgent turnaround on this, so the timing was fine). The work was done in a few hours, all clean-up done. I assume they will bill us for the remainder, because they didn't ask us to leave a check. Only thing preventing me from giving top rating is that I want to see how it holds up over the next year. Overall, very satisfactory.

Very well. When I contacted them on a Thursday, a person answered, not a machine, which counted a lot to me. He said Mr. McNulty would come out and estimate the job ''next week''. He came on the following Monday, leaving his card to let us know he'd been there. The written estimate arrived in the mail that Wednesday or Thursday. I sent in a signed copy with a check for 10%. I waited for a week and called to ask about scheduling. They explained that at this time of year the weather is a factor so they only schedule driveways about a day or two in advance. A few days later, on Friday, they called to ask if Monday was alright and I said yes. We are very pleased with how quickly and efficiently we were taken care of. I have a concrete walk project I'd like to do next spring and McNulty is definitely someone I'll be contacting.
Description of Work: They came on the day they said they would. They removed the old asphalt driveway and front walk. The driveway was re-graded and both it and the front walk were laid down the same day. We asked for the walk to be widened a bit and they did that and widened the driveway a little as well. No debris or mess was left behind. They also removed an extra section of asphalt walk along one side of the house for no extra charge.

The company was very professional and easy to deal with. I thought they did an excellent job. The driveway looks great and drains well. They also had the lowest price quote of those I received.

They did an excellent job for a reasonable price, and came when they said they would. I also was particularly pleased with their detailed work proposal. All of their staff that I spoke with were courteous and friendly.
Description of Work: Our asphalt driveway (approx. 1280 sq. ft.) was removed and replaced: Unsuitable base material was removed as needed and replaced. The area to be paved was graded for drainage, fine graded and compacted. The area was paved with 3" asphalt mix in two layers, 1.5" base, 1.5" top, each layer machine applied and compacted. RS-I emulsion was used for edge seal. Exposed edges were hand tamped. Price included City of Newton permit.
