Description of Work: Was clear I needed to wait which was ok, honest up front, came and gave me a price that was within reason. Wall is beautiful, though the extra dirt was left in a poor place.

Description of Work: One of the best contractors I have ever worked with. Responsive, reliable, reasonably priced, and respectful. | |Fixed chimney crown, replaced cap, repaired chimney bricks, powerwashed and sealed bricks. Price reasonable/in line with all other estimates, but Cartegiane was the most pleasant and easy to deal with. |He has also put in a new back walkway for us with pavers. Worked with me on design and cost. Survived the winter great! |Rescued us from ice dams! Came the day after I called, removed a foot of solid ice from whole roof. |Will be using again as soon as the rest of the snow melts to put in a new front walkway!
Description of Work: After receiving three feet of snow I knew I could not actually shovel my own driveway. Cartegiane answered when I called and said he would be able to do the plowing the same day. It was done as promised and he shoveled my steps & walkway.

Great service for the price. I have had the driveway plowed before - the driver never got out of the truck. I was asked if there was anything else they could do for me before they left.
Description of Work: Plowed part of my driveway, then hand-shoveled the rest, with a partner.

Very good experience with a young, conscientious tradesman. He was thoughtful and considered how to best implement our desires. Provided a very reasonable cost estimate. During work, he maintained a clean work area and was sure to clean up at the end of the day. I watched his work on the first day, and my wife watched during the second. Never had any doubts. Strongly recommend him for this type of work.
Description of Work: Removed wooden decking that covered original cement steps. Installed blue-stone treads in a pattern that we requested and installed cobblestone risers.

Overall it was a great experience. Jim was able to remove and replace several bricks from different parts of the chimney. The replacement bricks that he used blend in well with the older bricks, which is very difficult to do. He needed to rebuild the side of the chimney because of water damage. He removed the old cement top, fixed the chimney brick then replace the cement top. At the top of the chimney he removed a few layers of brick and rebuild the top. Jim was very neat and completed the job efficiently. He was always professional and was very capable of explaining the work and answering any questions that I had. I would (and have) hired him to do additional masonry.
Description of Work: Chimney work. Jim fixed the top of the chimney as well as replacing several bricks. He rebuilt the side and top of the chimney with a new cap.

Embarking on the hardscaping part of the project was a little daunting. It hadn't been in our original plan and was estimated to cost more that the rest of the project put together. But incorporating it into the landscaping project made more sense than postponing it and ultimately having to undo or redo part of the landscaping later. With Jim's help, we got through the planning stage: communicating our desires, understanding the technical aspects, and selecting stones. In addition, he was very good about keeping us within 'budget'. He patiently answered our questions, and provided excellent cost and time estimates. The construction stage was fascinating. Jim's crew of 2 men were the hardest working people we have ever encountered. They worked non-stop 12 hours per day, not only during the weekdays but on weekends as well (we are always asked in advance if their working on weekends was okay with us). They coordinated with the landscaping crew, preserved existing shrubs, and saved the old cobblestones for use elsewhere in the yard. They were quiet and the yard was always picked up at the end of the day. And they responded well to minor adjustments that we requested along the way. The final product turned out much better than we had envisioned. The patio makes entry/exit from the basement cleaner and safer, and the retaining wall hosts a new flower garden that can be seen from the yard and the deck. Both the patio and the wall look not only functional but also decorative. The yard looks so much more finished and presentable than before. It makes us wonder why we didn't have the work done years ago!
Description of Work: In conjunction with some landscaping work that was being done, a fieldstone retaining wall and under-deck patio were constructed. No prep work had been done under the deck previously; an old brick planter had to be removed, and the earth excavated and leveled. An old cobblestone retaining wall had to be removed and the ground prepped for the new wall, which was much longer and more robust. The new retaining wall is on both sides of the patio and curves around the side of the house.
