They rang me to bid on a bathroom remodel and wanted to swing by on a weekday. Not the best, but not unusual. So we made an appointment and I hung back from work. They were a no show. No call. Didn't pick up the phone when I called. Not a good look.

It went really well. We liked the idea of first engaging Maize restoration to scope the project throughly before committing to using them for the actual renovation. The process involved a few on site meetings (at our house) and several hours of detailed information gathering by Chase, Maize's president. We were pleased with the result of a couple of lifelike 'photos' of the completed bathroom and a roadmap of how we'd proceed. Chase "got it." Based on this, we have engaged Maize for the remodeling and we look forward to working with them on that project. Chase had come highly recommended by a couple of colleagues. We have interviewed a number of contractors for the project and we found that Maize's CPE gave us the confidence that they understood what we needed and would be good to work with. Chase was punctual, knowledgeable, and dare I say fun to work with.
Description of Work: We needed a comprehensive project evaluation in advance of our bathroom remodeling project. This "CPE" included an evaluation of all of the aspects of the project prior to engaging in a full project contract. The CPE included the design, measurement and fact finding about what we needed and wanted.

Great-we have gotten many compliments on our new screened in porch and our master bath looks better than I could've imagined.
Description of Work: They performed a complete tear-down and rebuild/remodel of our screened-in porch, which we have received numerous compliments on and are now in the process of remodeling our master bath. So far, so good and it looks fantastic.

This review is long overdue on my end but I wanted to provide a positive recommendation for Chase and his company on the demolition and replacement of two older new decks in our backyard and a new ceiling. After experiencing working with several contractors in the past that we're less then impressive I found Chase to be very through and professional and kept his promises on all the work that was done. I'm very detailed and the final outcome more then met our goals for having something built correctly that will last for a long time. Phase two of our project was to replace a tounge and groove knotty pine wood ceiling above an outdoor farmers porch. I was very concerned about how this would turn out since other contractors has told us how difficult the rip and replace would be. Chase found a way to get it done with the least amount of impact to the existing framing. Also, the crew working for Chase was always polite and courteous to all of our questions and he does have an admin that called in the evening at the end of every day to ask us about our experience. I would highly recommend this firm to anyone in need of remodeling in the future.

After receiving numerous estimates from local contractors I was beginning to feel a little overwhelmed.. I had envisioned roughly doubling my homes living space, adding a second story on. many of the contractors were not responding, or seemed like they had no idea what they were talking about. Once I met Chase, everything changed. He was professional, courteous and very knowledgeable regarding my dream remodel. He was able to coordinate everything down to a science. All of the guys all had the same professionalism as Chase, the owner. It was truly an amazing experience, the quality of their craftsmanship and their ability to get the work done on time exceeded all my expectations. I would urge anyone thinking about remodeling their home to choose Maize Restoration and Remodeling.

We were first introduced to Maize restoration at the home show and we made an appointment to meet at our home. Chase arrived on time in March and was very nice when we discussed our deck replacement and ideas. He also expressed his ideas and we talked about styles and materials which we chose. He then gave us a verbal idea of price and we said we would get together again after we thought about it. At our next meeting he had some better ideas and we agreed on all materials and style. At our third meeting he came to us with a price that was $11,000 more than what we talked about and we knew it was over the budget. After we discussed it again, we pulled together and decided we wanted the deck of our dreams and went over our budget, agreeing to the project. There were never any plans of the new deck presented at the time of agreement. The next experience was the demolition of the old deck. The work crew came and began demolition on May 25 2017. They worked well and quick. (Problem#1) There was no thought when the large upper deck fell to pull it away from the house. When it fell, it broke parts of the siding and a hose reel which they agreed to repair or replace. The demo was completed two weeks later and we then had to place a phone call to see what was next. The footing subcontractor arrived. (Problem # 2) From the moment he stepped onto the property this subcontractor was very aggressive like he didn’t want to be there. An employee of Maize restoration was on site and asked me (the home owner) how to get the 1000lbs machine up a two foot wall. We explained how and so the destruction began. The yard was ripped up by the machine with no regard and landscaping timbers were removed for the subcontractors convenience. When the Maize employee approached him the subcontractor was aggressive. In the process of all this, the posts which the whole job would be built on were installed in the wrong places due to ease for the subcontractor. The depths were not correct. The Maize employee reached out to Chase and he spoke with the subcontractor and the owner of the post co. to reel in his angry employee. Chase NEVER came on sight for this problem and allowed the project to move forward not verifying where the post would go. After it was done I talked to Chase about it and he listened to my concerns kindly and said “well he is just a caveman” and not to worry about it. We said he is representing your company and he just apologized with very little regard. Next was the framing which the Maize employee that was running the job was very verbal about his discontent with his employ with the company, which you never really want to hear about a company you just hired. However, he did a good job on the framing. (Problem#3) In the process of the framing, a nail pierced a heating line which we (the home owners) caught and drained down before any real damage happened. The employee was very sorry and would arrange repair which they did, but this entailed opening up soffits and removing blown in insulation but it was repaired (more unnecessary stress). In the process of framing is where we began to see issues with the posts and there placement. Through the process, there was no true discussion on HOW we would use the space on or under the deck where storage and motorcycle would be stored. 6 of the posts had to be removed and relocated that a newly poured concrete slab had to be broken through and patched, the patches stood out like a sore thumb (more stress for a lack of planning and discussion). At this point our discontent became apparent, once again an apology with no true regard, through all of this payment was asked about which seemed more important than the quality they boasted about on their website. Next came the decking and railing system. As the decking went down we began to notice the alignment of the ends of the deck boards were different, one shorter than the next. Not even when we asked that they be repaired or replaced, we asked where the supervision is and the quality you boast about. At this point we (the home owners) then scrutinized everything and quality checked at a constant. The railing posts did not line up and the railings had to be realigned. The posts were loose in 5 places. We would not let up until repairs were satisfactory. The upper platform had massive sway in it, which from the beginning we said we did not want. Through many attempts it was solved. Once again we (the home owners) suggested on function and astatically pleasing, which they found a challenge but they did accomplish. Throughout the job there was never a portable restroom placed on the site. The workers were urinating next to the dumpster which began to smell until it rained. There are no words for this. If chosen Maize restoration must be supervised by the home owner to make sure you are getting what you want and what you pay for. All in all we have the deck of our dreams but it came out of our eyes. There are still flaws but you have to say what you can live with and move on. We would NOT hire Maize again. The Project ran two full months when it was said three weeks to one month. It was over priced for the end product. Chase loves to use the word “perfect” a lot, when it was very far from a “perfect” experience.

Chase and the Maize team were very professional, accommodating, organized, and did great visible work throughout the project. Activities were explained in detail, and scheduled commitments for the various projects proceeded generally on time. Small changes were discussed and closed real time. At all times the crew were professional, courteous, and neat during and leaving our home; in short excellent workers. At one point, changes needed to be made on work for the windows. The discussion was open, honest with satisfactory results both in the project and with Chase working directly with the Insurance Company to process the changes and approvals. There was continuous follow up throughout the job to ensure our needs were being met; which is very important over a project spanning a few months. I would absolutely recommend Maize Restoration & Remodeling for any home remodeling project.

I signed a contract with Maize in Feb 2016. The work was to start in Aug/Sept but they didn't actually start until the end of October. The first phase of the project was the bathroom on the main floor. We were told the bathroom would take approx 4-5 weeks start to finish. The project actually took 9 weeks and still wasn't complete when I terminated the contract and told them not to come back. Not only did the project take double the amount of time that was quoted but it was a complete disaster from the start. Here are some of the problems that we encountered during the project: • Trash & debris around the house including the old toilet that was left in my driveway for more than a week. • No containment as promised. Dust & dirt all around the house. • Poor communication between Maize and their subcontractors. • Painters painting in the dark with no lighting. • Electrician showed-up without the proper material. I had to run to the hardware store to purchase a dimmer switch & switch plate for him. • Screws for bathroom hardware were installed crooked & stripped. • New tile floor in bathroom is squeaking. • Sliding closet door hardware was installed backwards. • The shower floor was not pitched properly and we had water pooling and running to the drain. They attempted to repair the shower floor but we still had the same issue but now with uneven tiles. I requested and was told that the owner would perform the second repair which would entail replacing the whole floor. When I came home the two workers that screwed it up twice were there working again, not the owner as promised. When we ran the water in the shower it appeared to flowing to the drain but we now had water leaking into our downstairs bathroom. During their third attempt at the shower floor they punctured the copper pan which was bad enough but there was also water getting through the shower floor to the pan. As if all this wasn't bad enough I'm currently chasing Maize to return money they owe me. Based on my initial deposit for the entire project and a payment that was made during the project they were overpaid approx $7,800 since I was not going to have them complete the balance of the project. Maize Restoration & Remodeling & their subcontractors are incompetent & unskilled. Find another contractor. You'll be glad you did.
Description of Work: The work was for a complete bathroom & kitchen renovation including finishing a couple rooms in the basement.

Last spring, I had significant water damage in my Back Bay condo due to a melting ice dam that permeated the exterior brick, interior wallboard, and windowedges. I live in Los Angeles, so the process of finding a contractor that would be reliable was a daunting task. It is also not easy to find contractors thatspecialize in restoration of old construction and are willing to work in the city. When I met with Chase to bid the project, I immediately felt comfortable that he would do an excellent job with no on-site ?supervision? by myself through the process. Communicationwith Chase and his secretary was excellent. He responded to emails with in a timely fashion. He even went above and beyond the scope, in meeting with the Comcast repair people in my absence (a stressful task even under the best of circumstances). The job included demolition of walls, mold removal, sealing interior brick, rebuilding of walls, painting, matching existing baseboards and refinishing floors. The work was done to all expectations and the space was thoroughly cleaned and ready for me to move my things back in when I returned to Boston. I found Chase to be very ethical and responsible. It is clearly very important to him that his clients are extremely satisfied with the work.

I had the opportunity to meet with Chase during the 2015 New England Home show ? we were looking for a contractor to replace some exterior trim work on our home. After describing our project to Chase we set-up an appointment with him to review the project, and to provide a quote. While we were at the Home Show, he wrote down the appointment in his schedule. A few days prior to the schedule appointment I send him a confirmation email, and I had also asked him about some options for replacement windows. He responded to the email to confirm the appointment, and to provide some additional guidance on the replacement windows. I had taken a day off work to meet with Chase, and when he was more than an hour late for the appointment I called him to find out where he was. He noted that he ?messed up? on the schedule, and that he was ?on the road? and we would need to reschedule the appointment. As I spoke with Chase I let me know that I had taken the day from work to meet about the project, and that if was unable to schedule the meeting properly, how could he manage the project on our home. In addition, I asked him about the ?gallery? pictures that were on his web site, and did he do all of the work. He confirmed that all of the pictures did represent his projects ? however, it should be noted that most of the pictures were actually stock photos ? which I was able to verify via Google image search. This would then call into tment question how valid are the references which are also listed.

Maize Restoration & Remodeling is a company that stands far above the rest. This was evident from the first meeting. We had water damage from ice dams in five rooms of our home. Before meeting Chase the thought of having strangers in our home for two weeks brought us much anxiety. But, soon after meeting Chase our fear and anxiety was put to rest. He listened to all of our thoughts and concerns with professionalism and courtesy. He made us feel like we were talking to an old friend. He explained every step of the remodeling process and always answered any questions or concerns we had with patience and understanding. He showed that same compassion and patience when reached by cell phone. Every worker that came into our home treated us and our home with respect and kindness. Every part of the project was done with dedication and care. The quality of their work is outstanding. It is clear that they are passionate about their work and are not happy unless their customers are. As they completed every task they would make sure that we were happy with the work and they left their workspace clean at the end of each day. We expected our home to be filled with plaster dust, but that was not the case. They kept the dust contained, which was greatly appreciated. Chase also dealt directly with the insurance company, always keeping us informed. It is clear that Maize Restoration & Remodeling goes above and beyond to make their customers feel comfortable and makes the whole process as stress free as possible. We never thought that having work done in our home could be an enjoyable experience. Maize Restoration & Remodeling will not only meet, but exceed your expectations. We will definitely hire them again for any future work we may have and recommend them to friends and family.

We did not get to work with Chase bec we decided to postpone the start of the project however when Chase came to access our work, he was on time and very patient and professional. He walked thru the problem areas with us, heard our thoughts and intentions and offered his solutions. He presented us with choices so that we can choose what would work for us. My husband and I went back and forth on a number of decisions yet Chase patiently heard us out with no pressure. eh was with us for almost four hrs well beyond what was required! I was impressed with his patience! My husband loved the fact that there was no pressure and that Chase was well knowlegeable of what needed to be done. Regretfully because we had to postpone our project and had already placed a deposit with Maize- Chase refunded us our deposit with no problem, now that was stellar. He understood our position and was not shady about holding on to our money. Apart from feeling confident that we would be please with the work they were going to do for us, I felt really good about dealing with Chase from a customer/client interaction-a guy who is confident of the work he does and smart about his craft and nice to people. All imp values to me. I would definitely recommend Maize Restoration and Remodeling and look forward in working with them in the future.

Chase researched the options and identified the best regional vendor to mill the columns. We selected mahogany for some reasons related to the most appropriate wood available at the time. Given the size of these columns, and the requirements to season them, they needed to cure in the front yard for some time before they could be installed. During the installation process Chase and his team carefully erected scaffolding and safely erected and secured the columns. During his initial measuring he had considered how to replace the bases of the columns to avoid the decay that the original columns had suffered. The curing that occurs with columns of this size can lead to cracks in the wood over time. Chase did stop by and fill those cracks over the following months and we expect he given his attention to detail he will stop by again for at least one more fill. Chase and his team showed a high degree of TLC - tender loving care - in this process. In particular he had a focus on craftsmanship, critical as this was a project that required this attention to detail.
Description of Work: The project was the replacement of four two-story original wood columns at the entrance to 1929 Georgian Colonial home.

Description of Work: From start to finish, Chase was fantastic. His immediate teams of craft persons were superb and I would strongly recommend Chase and his team, for any project large or small. We found Chase at the home show and were impressed by his openness. He called a few days before he was to come to my home and review the project and come up with the estimate. In a few days he called and wanted to review what needed to be done and a cost associated with each item discussed. Once we reviewed and agreed to the price along with what we wanted he produced his estimate. Along with the estimate he provided not only his contractor's license but also his driver's license to show he was a creditable contractor. We had worked with another contractor on a previous remodeling, but were looking for a much higher quality job - particularly as it relates to the overall completeness of the work. I'm very particular when it comes to finish work. First and perhaps most important, Chase was incredibly responsive throughout the remodeling project. He was easy to reach on his cell phone and would typically respond within a couple of hours. Chase also prides himself in punctuality and in cleanliness. For a family living through a renovation this was absolutely critical. He worked incredibly hard with us to establish a realistic budget for the extensive job we were planning. I was also personally impressed with how Chase orchestrated the entire project from start to finish. The only reasons the project didn't start and finish as planned were two-fold: Our cities permits to have a dumpster on the street and inspection services. The process took about a week instead of the 1 to 2 days as promised. We added several items as well as the building inspector to upgraded fire and sound proofing to the project. Our combined decisions, along with Chase's guidance and expertise, allowed the rooms being remodeled to be a showpiece. For a family living in the midst of this major renovation, we were thrilled with how polite and responsive his teams of professionals were. I could not imagine that his wall board team could board the front hall and ceiling along with two rooms, walls and ceilings and a stair case closet, in just a few hours. Next came his plasters came and within a few hours, all of the wall and ceilings, were plastered and the finish looks like no sanding needs to be done. Next came the painting of the ceilings and walls, along with the window trimming and placement of the new doors. The electrician came back and added all outlets, wall switches, lights and ceiling fans. The new hard wood floors came next, extending into the front hall and closet. The last to return was the plumber who installed the base board heating system. Chase's team deserves much of the credit for superb execution of the concepts that Chase helped us to develop, with his electricians, plumber, wall board personal and plasters. | | We cannot wait for next year's project. We developed a fast friendship with Chase's team and they have my and my family's complete trust. Chase's sub-contractors did great work, which we strongly believe is a reflection of Chase's meticulous nature. Chase was always checking in with us throughout the project at least once or twice a week to see if we wanted to change or to correct anything and he is a superb listener. There isn't a detail too small for Chase's attention. Simply put, Maize Restoration and Remodeling brings craftsmanship, quality, and excellence in the form of a true partnership. We very much look forward to our next project with Maize Restoration and Remodeling. | | If you need to remodel your house in any way I highly recommend choosing Maize Restoration and Remodeling. I have never seen such professionalism in their work, as everything completed on time and without any surprise costs that some other contractors may add over the time of the renovation. If you're scared to remodel because of all the hassle it would take, then you need to pick Chase. He will only come to you when need to make design/color decisions. Otherwise he's detailed with plans and makes sure you get what you want. He does not cut any corners. Chase is a perfectionist when it comes to construction. From the material he uses, to the fine construction work, molding, and painting. The people that work with him respect him tremendously. All were great. There was never a day during the remodeling where someone was not working in the house. Overall we had a great experience and would for sure work with Chase again. We are glad we found him here! | |A very satisfied customer, | |Mr. Russell Kraus and Mrs. Rita Kraus |

The kitchen renovation included substantial work, most visibly removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room and expanding the walkway between the kitchen and living room. The work performed by Maize Restoration and Remodeling included demolition, electrical, plumbing, and plastering work for the kitchen and half bath. The cabinets and appliances were installed by Maize. Chase, the owner of Maize, was always prompt and professional during the renovation. We were very happy with the renovation, and appreciated the attention to detail by Chase and his team.

Chase Piedra was excellent to work with during my project. Very professional. I highly recommend Maize Restoration and Remodeling. At our first meeting, Chase sat with us and listened to what we hoped to accomplish. Chase's attention to detail was apparent as his suggestions were forthcoming, creative and perfect for our needs. Other contractors we had interviewed for estimates did not point out some of the things we would need to keep in mind as we made decisions and choices for our remodel. Chase explained how the project would work from start to finish. He met us at the store and worked with us to educate us on hardwood floors so we could pick the best product for our lifestyle. Chase is the man on the job with his crew. The crew arrived everyday happy and ready to go. Everyone was professional and careful/respectful of my home. A suggestion was made during the beginning of the project to lay the hardwood floor on a diagonal. Chase took the time to lay out several boxes of flooring to show me what each direction would look like. And the final layout actually frames my fireplace and the full impact of the diagonal draws your attention to my fireplace. It was the perfect suggestion and it looks beautiful! Chase always gave very creative suggestions and that we could do something different. He would be able to show me what his idea was and I was given time to think about it. Chase always returned phone calls and I never felt rushed in any way. I was informed everyday on what was finished and what was going to be done the next day. Everyday the clean up was fantastic. The crew worried about nails on the ground or floor. It was a great experience to work with this team! Chase has a great deal of integrity and cares about his clients. The quality and craftsmanship of Chase and his team is outstanding! They exceeded my expectations in their careful and consistent realization of my vision.
Description of Work: Remodeled our kitchen, garage and great room by removing a staircase, removing a doorway and replacing it with drywall. Redesigned the layout in my great room by installing drywall and installed hardwood floors.

Description of Work: Chase was very prompt, professional, very easy to talk to and work with. He gave us an hour of his time and then took 30 minutes after our meeting to draft a very detailed estimate on the spot. We were very impressed by him but the estimate for our particular project was outside our budget. We would definitely consider working with him in the future on other projects

We want to take this opportunity to thank Chase and his wonderful crew for the fantastic job they did on our remodeled kitchen. We had the opportunity to first meet Chase at the Boston Home Show in March. His self confidence, and his ability to meet our every need, with a "hands on" approach, provided us with the simplicity we needed in taking on such a large project.Chase met with us on several occasions at our home, talking and most importantly, listening to our desires and helping us build our dream kitchen. Chase led us always in the right direction letting us make every important decision with all the time that we required to feel comfortable with our choices. Chase even met us at the granite quarry so that we could select our granite and have it cut to our liking. The crew of Maize Restoration and Remodeling respected our home and always left a clean and safe work area. Each associate was respectful and always willing to answer any questions you might have. They were willing to work with you and make sure that every aspect of your project met your complete satisfaction. Maize Restoration and Remodeling is highly recommended by us and we consider using them for all our remodeling needs. Chase even surprised us with a wonderful bottle of wine and a bouquet of wild flowers at the completion of the project!!

We were told the job would be completed within a week, at a cost of $6,025.00 this was to include removal of vinyl siding, replacement of small areas of rotted wood, "mostly around front and back decks." Front of house gutter replacement. Replace plexiglass over stained glass window. Some dentil moulding was to be replaced, and price included in initial cost. We paid for labor for above jobs, and $3,125.00 for materials to replace wood and repair deck. Other than removal of vinyl and replacing a small amount of rotting wood, none of this work was ever done, nor were materials purchased. After vinyl was removed, we were told no more than 10% of the clapboards beneath needed to be replaced. We gave them another check for the wood. Chase, the 23 year-old owner of the company, told us he checked with the building department who told him he didn't need a permit to do any of this work. He told us he was fully licensed. He told us he was lead certified to remove materials with lead paint. None of these things turned out to be true. When we did check with building dept, we were told there was no way they would ever tell anyone they didn't need a permit for this. We sent Chase to get a permit. He returned to tell us he didn't have the license required to even get a permit! He left lead paint chips all over our deck and yard. He said he didn't need to take any precautions because he wasn't sanding the paint. Not true, again! They also stapled our comcast cable, taking out our wireless internet, cable TV, and phone. We had to have the cable company come out, and now must pay an electrician to replace the damaged cable. Prior to learning all of this, he told us of a shingling project and a post replacement that were necessary. He said together the extra work would cost $4,000.00. We gave him the money. After 3 weeks, none of the original contracted work was completed, and the necessary supplies weren't even purchased. He now was asking for an additional $4,500.00, even charging us for tarps to protect his equipment! We gave him another check, and were then told there would be at least 2 more payments of over $6,000.00 required! This price was about 5 times the original amount!! We investigated him, and I've reported our discoveries. We fired him, and asked that he return $10,000.00 Given that would leave him with $4,500.00 for only removing vinyl and replacing a beam and some clapboards, we were being quite generous. The shingle work and originally contracted work was never even started, and materials not even purchased, even though we paid for them. He won't return our money ("I have to protect myself."), and has continued to lie and make excuses, so we are about to enter litigation. It is noteworthy that the new contractor (highly rated on Angie's list) found waterproofing wasn't done, and although some flashing was added over one window, Chase added it in little pieces, so it won't serve its purpose. For the new contractor to undo Chase's shoddy work, replace it, and finish the entire contract, the new contractor is charging us $4,000.00 less than we paid Chase altogether. We literally feel conned, robbed, by Chase.
Description of Work: Removed vinyl siding. Replaced some (less than 10%) underlying wood clapboards. Replace a post approximately 8 feet tall. We'd contracted for, and paid for much, much more.....
