Generator was installed successfully in June 2018. I prepaid $200 for annual inspection which should have been dine June 2019. I received court notice on July 20 that Barros had declared bankruptcy. Prior to 2019 Barros seemed to have good reviews; however, this want into decline in 2019.

This company cancelled their appointment on me with 2 days notice, costing me time off from work, snd never finished the job. Hired in december, the generator is still not installed, and i have a trench dug up in my yard that they never back filled. Ive tried contacting the company, only to receive an automated voice message. Ive left several messages, have yet to get a call back. Dont hire!!!!

We paid 50% down for a generator install 9 months ago. Over 5000 dollars. They never installed it and will not refund our deposit. They do not return phonecalls and the phones go right to voicemail. I read online that they may be out of business. I filed a small claims lawsuit to try and get some of the money back.

We went through Home Depot a salesperson from Barros came to home we were very impressed with what he had proposed all work permits etc would be taken care of. The schedule date of installation came and everything fell apart and I had to take what I thought we were told an April installation ended up to be an August and the electrical inspection is still pending . Very disappointing to say the least.

This was a terrible customer service experience. I would call and be told they would call me back and they never would. I would be told work would be done on a certain date and then they would deny telling me that. Been waiting for nine days for the plumber to come back. Was told last Friday he would be here today Thursday. Called to confirm and was told by Pam that she never said that. Look at their other reviews on multiple sites— clearly it is not just me. Home Depot should not contract with them nor should Generac in my opinion. I will be contacting both those companies as well.

Barros installed our Generac generator so we used them for our twice-yearly inspection and tune-up. That went fine until there was a problem with the generator. They were difficult--almost impossible--to reach, and did not respond to repeated requests for service. Three months after our initial call for service they have been out once and the problem has not been corrected. I don't know what 24/7 service means, but not this. I would strongly recommend you find another company to service your generator!

We waited about six months for this project after paying 50% up front. When the time for install came it was presented as a five day process. Five WEEKS later we still aren’t done. We have lost count of the number of times we were told someone would call us or show up but did not. Scheduling has been incredibly bad. The final stage was replacing two small sections of pavers. After weeks of asking barros to return to replace the pavers as both entrances to our home were obstructed, we came home today to find a section done incorrectly. There is one brick completely missing. Instead of fixing the job, which was done around 1pm (plenty of daylight remaining), they left the job and left us with one missing brick in our walkway. I also found a spike to hold the pavers in place buried in mud next to the walkway. This has been a really bad experience. I hope that barros can make it right.

We are sorry for this customer's negative experience, but as a full service generator dealer, it is clearly stated in our contract that, if excavation is required, walkway reconstruction is not included. Often times as a favor to customers, we attempt this work at no charge, and one of our employees took his Saturday away from his family to help this customer and unfortunately this negative review is the result. We are a licensed plumbing and electrical contracting company that focuses on backup power and not a landscaping company. What is sometimes missed is that this customer's generator has been operating and protecting him from an outage since mid November. This time of year, our company focuses on protecting as many customers as possible before the even harsher winter weather sets in, and have done so for dozens of customers in the interim. Once again we apologize for this customer's experience, but ask for some understanding when we are responding over and above our contract.

This company installs generators for Home Depot. We ended up terminating our relationship with them before the install, so we can't comment on the quality of their work, but if it's anywhere near the lever of customer service they provide (or don't provide, rather), you would be better off paying a little more for a more professional company to take care of your generator.

There were an unprecedented number of power outages impacting our service area in March, 2018 (39 outages with almost 1.4M. affected). Although we serviced hundreds of customers and continued with installations when the weather allowed, our resources were challenged and unfortunately we were not able to meet our normal standards of responsiveness and performance for all. Of course our goal is to have the highest standards at all times and although it is hard to hear negative feedback it motivates us to improve! It sounds like you were able to locate another service provider and we wish you the best and the peace of mind that comes with having emergency back up power for your home.

Installation went fine. Had minor power outages for past 18 months, longest being 6 hours. On March 2nd, 2018 we had power outage and generator kicked on as expected. 48 hours later generator quit working. Mr. Barros returned our call and said someone would be out the next day to fix the generator (that is still under warranty), the person did not show up for 2 days then said he could not fix it and the lead technician would be out in a couple of hours. We have called the company over 20 times in the past 8 days and emailed numerous times. No one has been to our house to diagnose or fix the problem. Left numerous emails, voice messages for Mr. Barros, he has not responded. Filing a complaint with Better Business Bureau. I do not recommend this company.
Description of Work: Paid $17,000 for a Generac whole house automatic generator September 2016. Paid $800 for 2 year service contract with semi annual check ups to be sure system is working correctly. Weekly system checks to ensure system working correctly.

Great company to deal with.. very professional... highly recommend.. i forget when we had it installed and the exact price. But we are extremely happy with our generac generator.. we just had a real bad storm and lost power for like 3 days. We had no worries tho because our 14K generator was fantastic! We checked the oil twice, which was fine. It ran our heat, etc... thank you Barros for installing such a great, dependable generator! My family has also ordered one thru our recommendation! John was very helpful in assessing our needs at the initial visit. He did not try to sell us more product than we needed. Barros took the responsibility of obtaining necessary permits and contacting inspectors at appropriate phases of instillation. Delivery of 8000 watt generator was a little later in the day than originally scheduled due to some problem at another location. Other than that, the process was seam less. Plumber connected natural gas line and electricians installed circuit box. Electricians were very helpful in suggesting what parts of house and what appliances should be connected. We are very pleased with the overall experience.

I'd like to thank the Barros Companies and especially Janet, who facilitated the result I needed.. I purchased a generator from Electric Generators Direct. When It arrived, my electrician explained that I would need to exchange the 200 amp transfer switch for a 100 amp. I contacted Electric Generators Direct and received this reply: "You cannot return just the 200 amp transfer switch without returning the entire shipment, including the generator. The other option is try and sell the 200 amp switch to your electrician or via Ebay or Craig's List and then purchase the transfer switch needed by placing a new order" I then contacted a couple Generac generator distributors when I came upon Barrows Companies. I was transferred to a wonderful lady, Janet. She listened to my dilemma and told me she would check to see if they could exchange this for me and call me back. Later that day, I received the good news, they would do that for me, even though I didn't even purchase the generator from them. It was just a day later that I exchanged the transfer switch at their warehouse. Thank you Janet and the Barros Companies!!!

I have nothing but good things to say about having the installation done through Barros. I originally got estimates from 3 places before deciding on Barros. Home Depot (which was the contact for Barros), Lowes, and Granite City Electric. The estimates from all three were within a couple hundred dollars, but I went with Barros based on 2 factors: their promptness at responding to calls and/or emails, and their experience with standby generator installations. The installation went smoothly. The only delays involved in the process were waiting for town inspectors to come out to check the gas hook up and the electric hookup which had to be done separately. At each stage of the installation, electrical, gas, final run through, etc.the people who did the installation work were polite, knowledgeable and readily answered any questions I might have. At the final run through, the installers did a thorough job of explaining and demonstrating how everything worked, answering questions, etc. Interestingly enough, less than 2 weeks after the installation was complete, a bad nor'easter hit and the neighborhood lost power for 14 hours. However, within 20-30 seconds after the lights went out, the generator kicked in and performed as expected. My only regret, was not having one installed before the blizzard back in February of 2013.

I went to a Home Depot to ask about buying a backup generator for my home and having it installed. They took my name and number and said their contractor would call me to set up an appointment to come out to my house for an estimate. A day later I got a phone call from a Barros rep who did not call to set up an appointment, but to see if I was worth while bothering with. Having a background in electrical engineering, I already knew what I needed and what unit I wanted. After a short discussion he started lying about how the unit worked and then insisted that it would be illegal to install the unit I wanted and I needed to get a much bigger (more expensive) model. 1. There are no legal requirements to have a specific size generator installed at your house. 2. You do NOT damage your generator or your appliances if you try to use more power than the generator can provide. In the worst case, it will just shut off all power until you turn some things off and restart the generator. 3. The particular generator I specified that I wanted has built in features to turn off non-priority items like Air Conditioners if the load starts to get high. The salesman either didn't understand how the generator worked or choose to lie about it. 4. If I had believed him, I would have spent a lot more money, had a noisier generator, and spent a lot more in gas to run it. I went to Lowes and asked for an estimate. They sent a very knowledgeable person out to my house and gave me a real estimate.
