Once Upon A Tile

While looking for tile for a small bathroom renovation, I looked at every tile store I could find in the western Boston suburbs all the way west to Fitchburg, more than 20 stores in all. Once Upon A Tile is by far the best tile store I found. It has a huge selection, the lowest prices, and the most helpful staff of any place I went. I am a very indecisive shopper and I went to Once Upon A Tile at least 8 times, sometimes staying the whole afternoon. Every time, without exception, the sales people were friendly and went out of their way to help me find just what I was looking for. The owner, Jeannie, is fabulous. Once she understands what you want, she dashes off and returns with yet another incredible tile sample. Best of all, she tells you what she really thinks, instead of just trying to sell you whatever you seem to like. I did have to return some tile (I should have listened to Jeannie), and they made the process completely painless. I cannot praise this store enough. Best shopping experience of the entire remodeling process.

An excellent experience. Once Upon a Tile has a superb selection of quality tile in most price ranges. I am new at remodelling and not good at picturing how something will look. I also am terrible at geometry and figuring price and square footage, and whatever other mathematical, spatial concepts one needs to buy flooring. Graham A.was very patient and reassuring, with no pressure to decide. He was responsive on the phone, by email and in person. However he knows the inventory inside and out. He immediately picked out the tile that turned out to be perfect, but insisted I take a sample of it and a few other choices home to see how they would look in my actual kitchen. He also pointed out to me things I would never have thought about like, duh, how this tile would feel softer underfoot, or be less slippery than other choices. He was similarly subtle about knowing exactly what color grout to let me choose. :-) He explained why this cement or method of laying the tile, etc. was better than that, but was totally open and encouraged me to buy material elsewhere, e.g. at "the big box" stores. Yet he matched the price I would pay elsewhere, making getting everything I needed very convenient. It happened that my contractor became unavailable to lay the floor. Graham was gracious about storing the material until I found someone else to do the work. (months) He offered help, but did not force, to find someone to do the job. I loved that I could trust him to let me make my choices, but that he wouldn't let me make a dire mistake. Getting to this store before purchasing tile elsewhere is well worth the effort, and slightly higher cost; If only to feel you have been thorough in "doing your homework", so you can be truly satisfied with whatever choices you make.

They were very good. They gave us recommendations and coloring combinations and they bring sample home to try them out before we use them. They did a very good job and they have lots of ideas because we never have done tile before. The bathroom guy that we used in our bathroom, they gave us the tiles and the gave us some ideas and said that those would be really nice but he said that all of the tiles in that type of bathroom we'd probably have issues with being too big and crack and also he would charge us more. They have a huge collection of tiles and it's a small place but the selection is great and I know other people who've used them and they were recommended by another company. Also, the plus side was we were able to work with both of them to make sure the counter top we order in another company and the tile we ordered from Once Upon a Tile, they can bring in samples to us. We had to work in the timing situation because I went there in the Spring to pick everything out but I didn't want to pre-pay because work isn't being done until for almost September, it was almost late September he did the work. I didn't want to get it done beforehand so I don't want to pre-pay and get everything delivered, we have to work a lot to get it done and I kept it in storage until we needed it.
