Description of Work: We hired The Charest Company after meeting a former customer who was so satisfied she asked to promote them at their booth at a local home show. Eric and his crew are very professional and are attentive to every detail. We had a rotted old porch that they replaced for us. The work they did was absolutely gorgeous! The trim work was incredible. They also replaced all the windows in our 100 year old home. They sided our dormers and garage, replaced our gutters and our garage door. We are hiring them to redo our kitchen next. The price is very reasonable for reliable, quality work. We have had issues with other contractors but not with The Charest Co. We won’t be using anyone else for home repairs that they can perform. I wish I could share pictures of their work Eric and his crew are the BEST!

Charest did an amazing job siding our house! We couldn't be more pleased with the results. Eric is a good listener, very responsive, and communicative, and he knows what he's doing. He and his crew were professional and a pleasure to do business with from start to finish. You might pay a little more than you would with some other companies, but the workmanship is top notch and absolutely worth the price. I have no reservations about recommending Charest. You will be treated with care and respect, and your home will be beautiful when they are finished!

Workers ( Reg, Tom and Norm) did a fantastic job! Worked non-stop with short lunch break even on hottest days. We are very satisfied with the meticulous work they did. We have had many compliments from our neighbors and from Facebook friends and family. All three workers are very polite and trustworthy. We will highly recommend Charest Co. to anyone who asks if we are happy with the result. We absolutely love the job that was done and the look of our "new" house!

Everything went great! The Charest crew was always on time, polite and hard working. The cost of the project was definitely expensive (we had one other quote but it was not as inclusive- we would have had to arrange some of the different projects on our own). But the cost was worth it for the quality of the work that was done. The workmanship was very high quality. Any issue was addressed and explained right away. The Charest Company was thorough, complete, nothing was left undone. Eric, the owner, was a pleasure to work with, always keeping in touch and making sure we knew where they were in the project. They also cleaned everything up when they were done. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for good quality.

The Charest Co. did a fantastic job and I am extremely satisfied with the results. They transformed my home into the nicest house in the neighborhood., They completed the project exactly as we originally talked about - and added finishing touches above and beyond my expectations. Other contractors quoted on my house and all were more expensive - one quoting twice as much as Eric and Chris did. If you need these services for your home - call The Charest Co. - you will be happy that you did! Excellent! Excellent!

The work went very well. It involved removing the old screens and wooden panels and ceiling. The work was done by Eric Charest and his team. Eric kept me informed as to progress and did a terrific job of cleaning up upon completion. Although the job was relatively small, they gave it their best attention and completed it on schedule.

I signed a contract on 5-20-14 with the company vice-president and son of the founder and president of the company. I was quite adamant on having door and window flashing installed. I was informed that he did it on all of his jobs. When the flashing was not used I questioned him on it and he said my job took too much time and he was losing money. The job took 8 working days. He was not here for the first 2 days and when he took measurements on the job, he took the wrong measurement on the 3 sliding doors so it took longer to modify the openings to compensate for his mistake. He also was on the job site about 6 ½ hours a day. He used my tools without my permission i.e. compressor, levels, sledge hammer, brooms and dust pans. 2 of 3 sliding doors have leaked water, all 3 leak air, and a 36? entryway door has leaked water. In addition to that, 4 casement windows bind when the weather is hot. After 2 months of calls he returned only after I wrote a letter to the president. He returned on 9-30-15 but it was fall, and the windows bind in the heat of the summer. I texted him on 10-25-14 and on 3-30-15 informing him the doors leaked water. I then started to be concerned that the expiration date of the warrantee was drawing near. On 5-8-15 I texted him with my warranty concerns and he said he would take care of the problems, regardless of the date. However, once the warranty expired, he never returned any more phone calls or texts. I have 16 texts that pertain to my problems and one specifically addresses the warranty. Also, some of the molding is noticeably uneven and some of it does not line up properly. He also stated he cleaned up at the end of the day. This could not have been more untrue. I had piles of demolition material in my yard, leaned against my house and collected on my deck. It was not picked up until the last 2 days on the job. Cigarette butts were just tossed to the ground. Repeated requests to dispose of them properly fell on deaf ears. Final interior clean-up was to be done by the company. I did it myself. It took me a full day to dust, vacuum and wash 8 days worth of dust, sawdust, nails and screws. At the end of the job he requested an additional $700 for cost over-runs. He didn?t expect me to ask to see receipts for the extra materials. Upon review $400 was my responsibility. The extra $300 was for other projects ? not my project. Any left-over materials he took home if he had a use for it. If he had no use for it he either put it in my basement or threw it away. On 2 occasions I tried to reach out to the president of the company, once by mail and once by phone. He too, did not return my call. If he contacted me like I asked and let me air my complaints to him, I probably would not be writing this review. Responsiveness Grade before payment = A, after payment = F.

After obtaining three bids, I selected Charest and never regretted my decision. Larry Charest was responsive, personable, attentive, and prompt in showing up for appointments to discuss the work, review estimates, and follow up on items needing review. Larry also took the time to answer questions carefully and thoughtfully without a hint of impatience. A start date was set, but they were actually able to start a week early, after checking with me to make sure that would fit my schedule. While I was not able to be on site while work was being done, the reports I had from neighbors was they showed up promptly every day and "turned to" immediately. The on-site crew was led by Larry's son, Eric, who was also responsive and kept me in the loop on progress. Along the way, Larry made a few excellent suggestions which I ultimately implemented. They were diligent about daily cleanup of work space and the final cleanup was thorough and they took time to show me how to operate the new windows. The work was completed on schedule and with minimum inconvenience to me. I was very pleased with the work and received a lot of compliments from neighbors. Especially enjoyed working with Larry and Eric. I wouldn't hesitate to hire The Charest Co. again.

Very personable and prompt. They did a great job of understanding our needs and got the job based on the unique way that they approached the trim on the windows and corners. Crew was professional and workmanlike at all times. Neighbors have been impressed with the transformation of our property. I would have like to see a more complete policing of the nails and aluminum scraps at the completion of the job. I understand there will always be some missed ones- seems like there were more than there should have been. I did not complain about it so this may be an unfair comment. Overall the Charest company was a pleasure to work with.

We called him to replace a slider window that was broken. All he wanted to do was talk about redoing the whole room, painting, changing everything etc. I ONLY wanted a broken window fixed. He was not interested in that yet his ad says that he does that. Almost like a bait and switch, where you get him there and then he creates a huge task. I only needed the door/window fixed for security reasons..

Eric Charest came to my house to give me an estimate. He explained to me everything they would do. He was very thourogh and I was very impressed with him. My house had wood shingles that had to be removed before it could be sided. It was very messy. The workers cleaned up the mess as they went along. When they were done siding my house there was no trash left behind. They replaced any rotten wood they found . There was a substantial amount and I had to pay a little extra, but I had no problem with that. They didn't cut any corners and went the extra mile to make sure everything was done right. I had an old triple track storm window on my porch. The man "Tommy" doing the work told me he was going to remove it and straighten it because it was crooked. I told him no one would know tf it was crokked and he told me that he would. There were times when they were working on my house that I would have to leave and I felt comfotable leaving the door unlocked so that they could use the bathroom if they needed to. I would highly recomend The Charest Co. If you hire them you will get a fair deal and will not be cheated. Donald Cote 413 527 9141

Eric and Larry (his father) Charest arrived on the scheduled date and time for an estimate. They informed me that the siding on my house that had faded should be under a warrantee and the company may refund me some of the cost of the new siding. No other siding contractor who had been to my house thought of that. Instantly I knew I liked these people. I hired Eric and he and the crew were able to start within two weeks. During the process he kept me informed, even sending me a text message with a picture when the front door was installed. That was a great touch and one that I appreciated. Eric's attention to detail are incredible, you would have thought it was his house he was working on. After the front door was installed I called him and asked him to install two more doors. They were almost done with the job and Eric said no problem; he just took care of it.

We (my husband and I) contacted Eric Charest, the co-owner of the company with his dad, to visit our home and discuss vinyl siding our entire house. We have a 2 story home (a colonial) built in the early 1970's. Eric called us back immediately and made an appointment to come to our home 2 days later. We walked around the house with him, explained that we have had a number of, experiences with water leakage in several rooms, emphasizing that water proofing our home was of the utmost importance. Eric sat with us for well over an hour showing us samples of the siding, explaining very clearly and showing us pictures of his unique system of wrapping the windows to prevent any leaking, and the trim options. At no time did we feel rushed. He gave us unlimited time and answered our questions. We explained that we had just started to investigate doing the siding and we were waiting for estimates and visits by some other possible companies. When he left after that visit, he asked us to call anytime that we had more questions. We called several more times as we narrowed our search and Eric responded quickly both in terms of calling us back and making a day and time to come back each time. He provided us with an estimate and went over all the different parts of the contract, answering all our questions effectively. We felt that Eric would do a very good job and we trusted him so we gave him the job. We picked the color siding and trim that we wanted. About a week later, we once again called to see the possible choices again since we were not 100% sure that we picked the right color. Eric always responded and came back with the samples to let us look as much as we needed to. We never had the feeling that we bothered him as we were unsure about whether or not we made the right color choice. We ended up with the color we had chosen weeks before and were very impressed that Eric seemed very understanding of our being unsure. He wanted us to be happy and gave us the time we needed to feel more secure that we had picked the right color. We were in no rush to start the job. We just did not want to get into winter and we talked about the summer. Eric put us on the schedule for mid-August and said he would call a few days before so that we know the start date and have time to take things off the walls and the shelves so that nothing would be damaged during the banging. He called in late July to say that he finished a job ahead of time and he had a very big job next but if we were OK with it, he would like to do our house before getting involved with this very large house. He knew that we had a trip planned in late September and we did want the job to be done while we were away since we have learned that there always questions as the job progresses. Late July was fine with us. Eric came with his crew. He estimated that the job would last about 3 weeks. His crew are very nice and very competent people. They came right on time and several stayed fairly late in the day. For such a noisy job as putting up vinyl siding, they were so easy to work with and have around so that things were easier than we thought. Yes, it was noisy and they started at 7:00 AM but that is the nature of the job. They actually finished the job in 2 1/2 weeks. The windows were easily installed that we had ordered. One storm door had not arrived yet but as soon as it did, Eric came back to install it. And some of the new outside lights had not arrived before the siding job was done, but Eric came back to install them once we picked them up. There is no question that we would use them again and recommend them highly to anyone. The only reason we did not give an A for price is that Eric's price was higher than some of our other estimates but we felt it was worth while using Eric because the house would look beautiful. Also Eric told us to wait until the front was done to see if we wanted new shutters (we had always had shutters). The trim work was so beautiful. we felt we did not need shutters anymore and so saved some money there. Everything that was done was done with true craftmanship. We had verticle boards around our garage door with horizontal siding for the rest of the house. We told Eric that we liked the look so he did the vinyl siding the same way. But he was so creative in how he did it, we are absolutely thrilled. Anyone who sees our house cannot believe it is the same house.

We were extremely happy with this company. Eric, the owner, was very responsive (he would respond to texts at 9:00 at night) and he went above and beyond what was expected of him. He took on small, unexpected projects as they arose and usually did them free of charge. The end product looked amazing. Someone told us our house looked like it could be in a magazine. Eric even crafted the window trim himself and it came out beautiful.
Description of Work: Installed 3 new construction windows, 1 replacement window, French door and stairs, new vinyl bead board ceiling on back porch, gutters, new garage door, and vinyl siding on the entire house (shake on the face of the house). Many small extras were included in this price.

June 1, 2011. Finally got around to getting quotes in the late summer/fall of 2012. I didn't want my perennial flowers trampled down. Eric Charest took me around and showed me several houses in the area that his company had done and invited me out to see an in progress home. Changed my mind on colors twice and had to wait to have the house insulated which Eric Charest suggested when he discovered that I had no insulation at all in the walls. Had the roof done first and that went well and Eric coordinated his work with the roofer. Had some ideas which Eric supported and helped me to flesh out. He provided samples and was very supportive of what I wanted. Unfortunately the job was started just as the flowers started coming up. Hard to not step on them when they surround the house and garage. Job was quick and looks beautiful. Drive down the street and don't even recognize my house. After talking with Eric I started paying attention to details on siding jobs and I believe I got more than what I paid for. He went out of his way to finish off my porch as well as an add on job. I'm glad we had that done too. All in all I would highly recommend the company and Eric especially. The "crew" was great, punctual and professional. Job was done well within the proposed time frame.

We are extremely happy with our entire experience in hiring the Charest Co. From the beginning, we were impressed with Eric Charest, the owner. He responded promptly to our request for an estimate and patiently and thoroughly answered all of our questions. Eric met with us several times to work out the details and even invited us to look at several jobs he had completed. He provided us with, by far, the most detailed estimate we have ever received. The pricing for the job was in the mid range, but for the quality of the work and the excellent customer service it was well worth it! The crew arrived to complete our job on time and they went above and beyond. They were truly craftsmen and were meticulous about getting all of the trim details just right. Additonally, they were extremely professional and polite. We would highly recommend this company.

We contacted The Charest Company after seeing photos of their work. We first were contacted by Paul who came over promptly to review the project. Eric Charest subsequently came over to confirm Paul's thoughts and provided us a written estimate. Eric provided us with addresses of both residential and commercial buildings they have resided in the local area. What struck us was their level of detail on these jobs. We couldn't find any reviews of Charest on Angie's List, but talked with the New England regional sales rep for Certainteed; he said they would be a good choice and shared that they stand behind their work. We scheduled the work. Eric stayed in touch and as the target week neared, Eric gave us a firm start date and he. Paul, and his crew showed up promptly. (We had to work around schedule of the asbestos abatement contractor). Unlike many contractors we had spoken with, Charest uses their own employees as their crew -- no subcontractor laborers. Paul or Eric explained what they were doing each day and were able to answer any questions that we had. They have a very unique way of trimming around the windows which virtually eliminates the possibility of any water getting in behind the siding and really eliminates the need and expense to have shutters. The crew only missed a day due to snow; otherwise they completed the job along the timeframe that had been provided - they didn't jump around to other jobs. At the end we had a couple of minor issues which were completely addressed. This was a very major project for us and significant expense. We were very happy with the way the project came out. (We can not share web links - but we did document the work on the complete project on a Googe+ page - search for "our old house" )
Description of Work: Installation of new Certainteed vinyl siding and trim on our 1830's farm house as a result of hurricane damage to our old asbestos siding. We like it very much. It's a very good company. They are very good to work with. They are very professional, very easy to talk to, and they don’t do any manipulation of any kind or anything like that. They are very straightforward and do a good job. Their price was very good and competitive; I searched for other prices too. Their quality is very good. Sometimes their punctuality doesn’t always work out because they are so busy, but that’s true of everybody in that field. It's an industry problem not their problem. I plan on using them again in the spring.
