On or about July 30, 2019, I put in a request for air conditioning service at 97 Brandywine Road, Franklin, MA {my primary residence). One of my air conditioner units was not working properly. The air coming out of the upstairs vents was not pushing out cool air so the temperature kept going up. Waitin a few minutes after making the request, I received a telephonic response from BK Appliance & Refrigeration Repair. A few hours later, a service technician from BK Appliance arrived at my residence and immediately went to the air conditioning unit for my second floor I was told that the unit was extremely hot to touch and requested of me to get a hose so that he could cool the unit off. I ws then told that the pressure on my unit was extremely hot and he had to relieve the pressure. I watched as he connected a device to the rear right of the unit and then I could see a cloud of vapor and a hissing sound of what the technician referred to as pressure being released from the unit. He then checked the blower in the attic and removed the air filter so that cooler air could move through the system. He also informed me that there were no refrigerant leaks and no other problems with the unit. He went back out and checked the unit. I was with him as he checked the unit again and informed me that the pressure was returning to normal levels and the unit was cooling down. At the time, I was satisfied with the work (must point out that I an a home owner and know basically nothing about air conditioners) that the technician performed because my upstairs was cooling down and the temperature was dropping. I paid BK Appliance approximately $200.00 and was told that the problem was fixed. This past Friday (August 23, 2019), my air conditioner again began showing the same symptoms as the problem from July 30, 2019. However, this time, the unit finally stopped working. I checked the outside uint and heard a humming sound coming from the unit (the power to the unit was still on inside the house). I immediately contacted BK Applicance and left a message telling them that unit was again experiencing problems (as of this date, I still have not received a follow up call from BK Appliance). I contacted another Home Advisor air conditioning company, Rodenhiser Pluming and Heating, Holliston, MA. A technician met with me this morning, and after telling him what the problem was, he immediately checked the capacitor. After a few minutes, he informed me that the dual capacitor was the problem and replaced it with a new one. I told him of the problem from July 30, just to make sure there wasn't something else going wrong with the air conditioning unit. After informing him what I was told by BK Appliance technician, specifically that in order to keep the unit from shutting down, "he had to relieve pressure from the unit", The Rodenhiser technician was flabergasted. He informed me that the problem back on July 30, was the capacitor. The Rodenhiser technician was surprised that the capacitor wasn't even checked. What was even more surprising was that the BK Appliance technician had relieved the pressure by releasing refrigerant into the air, which he said that iwas illegal and against EPA rules to release Freon into the air. Freon must be captured by using a reclaimer machine which I said was definitely not done. More importantly to me is that he released refrigerant from my air conditioning unit making it more difficult for my system to generate cool air in hotter weather. Redenhiser checked the unit and then informed me that, because of what the BK Appliance technician had done by releasing "pressure" from unit, the freon needs to be replaced at a cost of $700 and has to be done before January 1, 2020. MY AC Died July 3rd and it was HOT I called BK and everyone else the morning of the 5th, Bernard was ale to come out that day at about 11am. Bernard was so professional and nice and knowledgeable he really made me feel comfortable and understand what had gone wrong with my AC and why. From now on I will call BK Appliance. Bernard called and made an appointment. He arrived ahead of the appointed time. He was very friendly and professional, went right to work on assessing the problem with my dryer. He quickly analyzed the problem and had the needed part with him. He gave the updated quote based on labor and cost of the part. On approval he went to work and had the dryer working good as new (it's about 20 yrs old) within 45 minutes of his arrival. He is friendly, professional, and experienced. Highly recommended.
