Great!! I called in the morning, they had someone call and look at it in the afternoon, they quoted me a price the next morning and had it fixed the same day. I've honestly never worked with a contractor who's so responsive and efficient. Thank God I found them. I'll definitely start using them for all my construction needs.

Owner provided the fan. Installers arrived on time, knew what they were doing and installed the fan from the rooftop, thus not requiring entry into the attic. The chimney leak was water seeping through the porous brick face and was sealed by application of a silicone coating. All this work was planned ahead of time and went as planned. The job might have been done more cheaply by others, but Charista has a reputation for getting the job done correctly, and they did.
Description of Work: Replace a roof top ventilating fan. Sealed a chimney leak.

I have high expectations from any contractor that I have money to spend with. Who wouldn't? I am not over picky, however, but I DO expect certain considerations and not to be brushed off. If I have a question, it should just be answered easily (if the contractor knows his trade). The initial appointment with this company was on June 2, 2014. During the appointment, various projects were reviewed. I asked if it was Ok to send a summary email of what we had talked about, and I was told it was fine. So that is what I did later the same day after the appt. I clearly provided information for each project. It wasn't rocket science. So, surprise, surprise. Yet another contractor that shows no respect for their potential customers time and effort (for the appointment and then for my follow-up to make it easier for them with the summary project email). There was no reply from them. Not even an acknowledgement from them. Ridiculous. June 9th, I sent the email again and merely asked if there was any updates. Someone called me from the company on or about June 12th. I sent them the email again on the 12th. Then on June 13th, I followed up with that email the following: "I just spoke with ... on the phone. I was told that you did see the emails but you are busy. I understand how contractors are busy but there are certain things a customer should expect, regardless. It would be nice to receive an email confirmation back indicating the information was received, however, I was the one to contact you because there wasn't a reply to me. Also, when I just spoke with ... I found out that you were busy 3-4 weeks out. I then said I understood but I would like the quotes shortly. She told me that the quotes will take that long. That is not what was mentioned in our appointment for my estimates. Like any customer would want, the quotes are expected soon after and given the consideration of their request. Obviously you are busy with work to get to the actual construction portion, that is expected. But the quotes should be available soon after an estimates appointment. It would have been better if you were honest and upfront to your customers at the beginning instead of not replying or providing an unusually extended delay for the quotes part of it much later. I have given you (free) feedback on your customer service aspect of your company since you put me at a disadvantage of a further delay; it appears you are more concerned with your business aspect rather than your customer's projects." So, then finally on June 19th, I received some quotes suddenly in the mail. There was no reply from what I wrote them earlier. I then sent them back an email the same day: "I received your quotes today in the mail. While I appreciate that you tried to follow through on your quotes after I sent my last email to you, I still do not find acceptable several key things: - There was no email reply to any of my emails that I sent to you. There should have been an acknowledgement email that you were working on my quotes, or some kind of status. At our appointment you were aware that I was sending you an email, which you indicated it was fine to do so. If that wasn't something that you preferred to communicate through, it would have been fine if you had just told me so up front. - Obviously I sent an email showing my dissatisfaction but yet there was not return apology or any comment from your business about what I wrote. -Your quotes paperwork I received did not have a completion timeline for any projects listed from when a deposit is provided to you. Then, FINALLY, I received a reply from them with an explanation. Although, they finally tried to explain that they were busy, etc, etc. Just excuses really, but this long delay was still unacceptable - and wasted my time. They also wrote: "You are a rarity in our business, as most customers are almost lost when it comes to what they want, and have a difficult time articulating what they are looking for." REALLY?? So they seek out customers that are clueless to do easy jobs for them? There are customers that have certain expectations and style for their project. This company clearly indicates that they don't work well with customer details. They also wrote: "Given the tremendous amount of detail that you gave to ..., your estimate would have taken him longer to prepare than most, as each link he would have had to look into to be certain he was giving you pricing on what you wanted." There were not that many links, anyone can see that email to see it was concise. What stands out to me is a company that just dismissed the quote right away because of laziness and did not even begin trying to work with the customer in the slightest. They wrote more things that were just more ridiculous mumbo jumbo (I wanted to say something else but I will act proper). So I emailed them back a reply to their ridiculous email, which I said: "Thank you for your response. Yes, I am organize but overall that doesn't matter and it should make it easier for your company to provide the requested quotes quicker. Your customers must be the type that just say do something nice and you do what you want with it. You must not work with anyone that is part of the creative process. And, with 30 years in your business, certain numbers for quotes should actually be given quicker based on experience on various projects. Or at least your should have an extensive list of your resources and suppliers to refer to for many projects. And, do you just have only one person that works on the quotes and constructs? I totally understand how businesses in your line of work are busy in this season. During the appointment for the quotes, I requested to ... the quotes to be given soon. I was informed that it would be. If the quotes couldn't have been provided within a week, then I should just be informed right away. I wasn't expecting your company to begin any work immediately, nor did I say that. If you follow the timeline of my email communication, you will see I was trying to be patient given the information that I originally received about the fact that the quotes shouldn't take too long to receive. It is not about when I contacted you during the season, again it was about your company's lack of follow-through and reply. Again, I wrote this in my last email about emailing: "If that wasn't something that you preferred to communicate through, it would have been fine if you had just told me so up front." I wouldn't have emailed you if you did not prefer that. All that Joe had to do was tell me that. Do you see one email that your company replied to me that any of my information that I sent to Joe was even received, or the quotes being worked on? No. Yes, your company is busy but so are your customers. If that information was given to me upfront, I also would have made a decision based on that information. And, lastly, after finishing reading your email below, there wasn't a single real apologize for your company clearly wasting my time - and no respect that you do so. It appears that you don't have your customer best interests in mind. So, all this feedback I gave you is really FREE advice on your company's customer service relations - and you're welcome. You are lucky to gave gotten this from me as many customers that are dissatisfied just walk away without a word." Their reply to all of that was: "Thank you for your reply. Again, we wish you the best with your project." Where was the apology for the delay and time wasted they incurred on me? By doing business with this company you are encouraging them to act like this whenever they feel like it to any customer. It is ridiculous.
Description of Work: Nothing. Did not properly follow through with information requested at the initial appt.

It is difficult to get a decent contractor for small jobs. I think I got lucky with Charista. Joe Kennedy, a project supervisor came out on time and gave me the estimate. It took several weeks to start the work, because they had scheduling issues for such a small job, this I can certainly understand. It took only a few hours to do the work and they did a beautiful job. Also, they left the work area neat as a pin. A very professional job, you'll be happy with them.

They came right out to look at the work that I wanted. Instead of replacing a drop ceiling they suggested on cleaning the tracks and replacing just the tiles. The estimate was extremly high. I called another contractor who suggested that replacing the entire ceiling would cost much less, so I went with the other conrator instead. As far as the roof was concerned, I decided to use this company because the price seemed reasonable, and the guy who came out to the house to see the job was awesome. When I called to ask for the contract I did not recieve any anser and left several message. I also sent an email, and still no repose. I am glad they did not respond because the contractor that I did hire was almost $500.00 cheaper.

Response from Charista Construction Services, Inc
This review is very strange. First of all, the address we quoted for [member name removed] r was [member info removed], and not the [member info removed]. Interestingly, we have done work for a [member name removed] at [member info removed]. In fact we replaced that roof last year, and did other work for THAT owner.. [member name removed] called us on June 25th. We visited him at his property the same date, and sent him a written estimate by e-mail on June 27th. He replied that night, and approved some of the work that sameevening. (Friday night) He had gotten a lower price on the ceiling with another contractor but wanted us to do the exterior work we had quoted. We mailed him a contract to the 41 Cedar Street address for the portion of the estimate he had approved. He contacted us on July 23rd, and said he had not received the contract in the mail. We then sent out another contract to him on July 23rd, same date. We never heard from him again. Our firm has been in business for 30 years. We carry all licenses, and also carry worker's compensation and liability insurance. We staff an office, so that when you call, the phone will be answered. After hours, we have an answering service who will contact us with any emergency. Certainly, we cannot compete with other contractors who do not offer the same thing. Also, we did not even quote on the roof, but I think he is talking about the soffit and skirt board on the house instead, which we did quote on. I am not sure how we could have given better service to this gentleman. As an aside, the post office never returned the first contract we sent out.

While they were fixing it we had a big rainstorm one night and the tarp blew off the roof. They were there in record time in the middle of the night to recover the roof. A large closet under the eaves was flooded and they replaced the ceiling and walls and repainted - they took responsibility for the tarp flying off with no argument. It ended up being way better than before the flood. They've also done other work for us but this was the biggest job - I've never been unhappy.

I got three estimates and I turned it all into the adjuster. I'm waiting so that I can call one of these companies to get this job started. I probably would not go with them. The last person I had come up here gave me more detail because there is further damage done to the house than I originally thought so I probably would go with that company. He was okay. I had to call several times to get this estimate. The first time he came but the second time he sent someone that just looked around and left without saying anything.

Description of Work: Three trees fell on our house in May of 2010...a microburst at midnight. We were given their name and early the next morning their crew was there to put tarps on the roof and sides of the house. They gave us an estimate using the insurance plus any upgrades we needed or wanted. The roof over the bathroom and bedroom was smashed in. Foundation cracked and the walls and ceilings in two rooms cracked. They did over a bathroom and bedroom with repairs to the foundation. The owner Mary Beth, was very realistic and upfront about how long it would take (two months) because of other jobs as well as the individual schedules of her contractors. Both she and Joe , the supervisor would stop by regularly to see how things were going and to reassure two senior citizens we would get out of the motel. She anticipated we would need a port-a-pottie in the yard since we came back to sit on the deck and get clothes etc.....The crews were easy to have around....all in all- Great Job.
