It went terrible. We had to pay double since we had to have other more competent contractors come in to do the job that this company was both unwiling and unable to do.
Description of Work: They were contracted to for 2 services as part of our basement renovation. First we wanted to move the main outflow pipe of the house since it was causing headroom issues and seemed to all the way around the basement when it didn't need to. They were also asked to move some radiator pipes for the framers for the basement remodel. Secondly, we wanted to add a zone to our boiler since our home had only one zone for the heat and it was constantly cold our bedroom in the winter since the thermostat was located on the other side of the house. Gary and his father Gus did come out and seem to give an informed and appropriate estimate. They seemed thorough in their inspection of the problem areas and seemed to arrive at workable solutions. We were quoted prices for just the pipe moves and for both the pipe moves and adding the heating zone to the boiler. The day of the job Gary and his assistant (not his father whom we thought would be doing the work) arrived several hours late for the job claiming they had an emergency call that morning. We let them in and went through the job with them arrving at the agreed upon price for both the pipe moves and adding the heating zone. They started their work and as they were in the basement we left them alone just checking oncein a while to make sure everything was going smoothly. At some point duing the morning Gary's "Electrician" arrived to wire the boiler. There was water all over the basement floor, getting on things we had stored in the basement and they were using my personal shop vac to clean up the mess or just let it soak into the rugs we had downstairs that we had wanted to reuse. This electrician then installed the thermostat in the middle of the wall in our bedroom making a messing while doing so, wearing his wet dirty boots in there as well and leaving us with several holes in the wall and the thermostat in the wrong place. Gary did come back several days later to move the thermostat...but it was a fewal days after he stated that he would be back to do so. As it turns out...when our electrician came to do the rough wire for the basement I asked him and his assistant (both Master Electricians) to look at the boiler as I wasn't confident that it was done correctly. When they both laughed and started taking photos to show some other guys they work with I guessed it was done horribly wrong...yep! so the high and low voltage lines were run into the same hole - code violation! and romex had been used near a hear source - code violation and the neutral and the ground were basically not installed into anything just sort of hanging out there. It was almost a full days work for our electrician to fix the "job" that was supposedly already completed. Gary refused to refund us for the boiler zone install stating that the electricians invoice was padded and that any problems with the boiler had not been his fault and that he and his "electrician" had installed the wiring in the "old school" way... Now to the pipes...the main outflow wastewater pipe was moved as we had agreed...not to the spot we had previously agreed upon...but we were told that because the washer and dryer had not been vented previously that this was the best way to run the pipe to add that...great we thought. Until the same electrician we had hired to rough wire the basement had noted that the outflow pipe was now located 1/2" away from the home's main electrical panel. Yet another code violation....code is 3 feet...not 1/2 inch. Something else we needed to have a more confident professional fix and something else we were told we wouldn't be reimbursed for. Onto the problems with the main water line and heating pipes. The new plumber we brought in explained that Gary had used inferior quality pipe connectors...would they work..sure...but they most likely break or burst within a few years. Lastly, in moving the main water line and out backyard spigot line Gary removed the shut off valve...so if there was a problem with the backyard spigot backing up, freezing or breaking, we would have to shut off the water to the entire house. Again, not so helpful.
