Our experience with Country Comfort has been a nightmare. We had several estimates, and went with Country Comfort because the price was reasonable and John McDonough seemed both knowledgeable and experienced. We felt good about the choice, and remain surprised at how bad the experience has been. He installed a condenscer unit outside the house, and later discovered that he had installed the wrong size and model. He had to install a new one, and the old unit sat in our driveway for weeks before it was finally picked up and taken away. He installed a wireless controller that allowed us to change the temperature in both the upstairs bedrooms and the downstairs master bedroom. He mislabeled the rooms, though, so when the unit says "Master Bedroom" it is actually controlling the kids room upstairs. Frustrating, but minor. The big problem occurred the very first day we turned on the unit upstairs. We had just finished construction (new ceilings, brand new carpet--everything was new). Within hours of turning on the unit, water started pouring from the light fixtures all over our new construction. It was enough water to discolor the garage ceiling underneath the room. John took his time coming to fix the problem, and then spent a couple hours trying to fix things. When we turned the unit back on, the water kept running. He came back AGAIN, but the water kept running. Finally, a member of the family who is NOT an HVAC professional took a brief look at the unit and determined that the problem was the whole unit was tilted wrong, so the water was running away from the drain. John finally came back and adjusted the angle, and the water finally stopped pouring down from the ceiling. Am amazed that he did not diagnose the correct cause of the problem when an amateur saw it in just a moment or two. We had to tear out a 10x10 section of ceiling, replace the water-damaged insulation, and rebuild it. We also had to replace a section of brand-new carpet that had been damaged by some sort of substance John spilled on it while trying to make repairs. This all happened in the summer; our young children actually had to sleep in the home office downstairs for a couple nights because our HVAC unit was not operational during a major heat wave. Then, months later, the temperature finally dipped below 37 degrees in the winter...and the heat did not work! Apparently, a different system kicks in when the temp gets that low, and the first time the weather got cold we learned that this different system didn't work. So our kids rooms were now freezing in the first cold snap. Here's the final problem: John owes us a couple thousand dollars to reimburse us for the repairs we had to make due to his negligence. Although he verbally stated that he knew he was at fault and was responsible for these costs, he still has not paid us. The damage was done (and repaired) back in June 2012, and it's now Feb 2013, so we have been forced to sue him to get him to pay us the money he owes. It's been a terrible experience, and we think it is only fair to let future potential customers know about our experiences with Country Comfort....
