I found them on Angie's List. They did not respond to my first call. After a 2nd call, they came out to give an estimate. I never heard back from them. I called the VP (who had come out) and he apoligized the said it would be out in a couple of days and I never got anything from them.

I was faced with a large increase in my service plan cost from another provider so I called around to get quotes and find a new service provider. MacFarlane was responsive and they patiently answered my many questions about their service & oil plan. I switched a year ago and am very happy. They are very responsive on their service calls, also.

The furnace installation went well. The service plan is slightly more than paying for an annual cleaning. They are good about calling me multiple times to setup the cleaning appointment. They stay on top of it. When I had a problem several years ago they came out promptly on a patriots super bowl night. They got it working that night but it failed again the next day. They sent someone out immediately and they replaced some parts and everything worked well afterwards. Since I was on the service plan there was no charge. I figured the most junior guy was sent during the game and the more senior person came the next day :-) The payment plan is good. They work with you to explain and adjust the payment when asked. Makes budgeting much easier.
Description of Work: I've used MacFarlane for my oil delivery for years. They replaced my furnace 5 years ago and did a great job. At the time they were the bets price since they combined coupons for oil delivery with their quote. I am on their payment plan which makes things much easier and takes the sting out of $1000 bills. They provide a service plan where they come once a year to clean. I have had them come out when I've had problems.

It went very well. They arrived when they said they would, they did the job in one day and cleaned up after themselves. Very professional.
Description of Work: Purchased a new boiler and had it installed. Their price was much lower than a competitor's price. I bought my previous boiler from them also and they have done warranty replacements without complaint. They do great service and are very reliable. I have bought my heating oil from them for over 10 years. Probably could find someone cheaper for the oil, but between the service quality, the service contract price and the whole experience it's worth it.

Other members of my family had used Macfarlane to replace the heating system on their home last year and had a positive experience and I was optimistic to have the same. I called looking for an estimate. Jim scheduled an estimate within a few days and arrived on time. He reviewed the existing configuration and said I would receive an estimate in the mail within a week. When I offered him my email to expedite things, he took it and said I would have an estimate via email within a few days. I waited more than a week with no response. I called Jim and left a voicemail asking for a status. No response. Ultimately, another vendor was responsive and I hired them to do the job. It's now been more than a month and I still have not received an estimate or even a call back. Disappointing.
Description of Work: I was looking to replace our heating system (boiler and in-direct water). Macfarlane came out to provide an estimate but that was the last I ever heard from them.

We just moved into our house, which has an oil-fueled steam radiators, and we know almost nothing about the system, so when a neighbor came over to introduce himself and tell us that our chimney was belching black smoke into the neighborhood, we were not sure what to do. The furnace had supposedly been serviced over the summer, by the previous owner's fuel company, so we'd expected everything to be set until we needed more fuel. We'd been receiving one or more oil company flier per day since we bought the house, so we had lots of options. When I started calling people, MacFarlane was the first one that answered, was friendly and helpful, and could send someone right away. Before we'd even signed up for their fuel delivery contract, they sent someone over to look at our boiler. When I called the first time, on a Thursday, I spoke directly to Scott, and he told me that someone would come on Friday morning and would call half an hour before they arrived at the house. I was surprised, therefore, when I got a phone call from the tech saying that they were there and nobody was answering the bell. I was 20 minutes away, because there's no phone in the house yet, so I rushed over, but the technician brushed it off and went straight to work. After a quick look at the boiler, he determined that something about the summer's work wasn't right. (He was very professional and *never* badmouthed the other company, just observed that the boiler was producing soot and shouldn't be.) Per his request, I opened up our bulkhead so he could go in and out the basement and not track soot on our newly-refinished floors. He also showed me the essential features of the boiler---the reset button, the water level gauge, and the water input valve, and how to use it, which I really appreciated. (My only previous experience with steam heat was at school, where I didn't have to worry about the boiler since it was produced centrally for the whole campus!) After a bit, I had to leave and he was still working, so he suggested I leave him locked into the basement (with the bulkhead still open so he could get out). I did so, and he called me when he was finished. When I went over to the house shortly after, I was pleased to see that the boiler was working and he'd even cleaned the rust/debris out of the water gauge glass. We'll be signing up with MacFarlane and calling them for all our heat problems.
Description of Work: Came out for a service call because our boiler was putting out black smoke---before we'd even signed up for their service or oil delivery contract.

A review of the job took place quickly, but a quote was never received as I was told. Also, I first called in October. When the job was scheduled by December 1, I called again but my call was not returned. Not wanting to do the job during winter, I waited until spring to call again. My record was lost and they reviewed the job again. I waited until early summer and called to check on the time frame when I was told that they were waiting for the oil to run lowand I had an estimated 125 gallons of oil (Our hot water runs on oil, too). In September, I checked the tank and found only 1/16 of a tank and called again. They did the job 3 days later. It was done by 3 people in 6 hours and was handled well.

I have been a customer for 3-4 years. When I called about the furnace, they called me back within 20 minutes and it was on a Sunday. Within a couple of hours, they were here to do the repair.
Description of Work: They repaired a leak on my fuel oil furnace. The repair took one and half hours to complete. The expense was covered through the yearly contract that I have. The contract includes a cleaning and inspection on the furnace in the fall and on the air conditioner in the spring. Parts and labor are included in any service that needs done for the entire year. I pay yearly.

Were very satisfied with the service of McFarlane Oil. They come when they say they will and do an efficient job of maintaining our furnace. There are 2 levels of service plans and we have the No Surprises plan which is a little higher than the Value Plan. Im not exactly sure, but I think we get more repairs done free with our plan.
Description of Work: We had them come to service and clean out our oil furnace. We have a 1200 square foot home.

We were planning extensive renovations, which would require a new heating system. Their rep came over and spend a lot of time with us, so I thought at first that they were being very thorough. But weeks went by with no estimate, even after my repeated attempts to get their information. Here we are months later, and although I've made multiple attempts to get an estimate, there is no response. Please pay attention to the other reviews here that mention the same problem -- I moved on and took my business elsewhere. I consider them very unprofessional, contrary to the impression I had when we first went into this.
Description of Work: Asked them for a new heating system estimate, to be done in conjunction with extensive home renovations.

THEY WERE VERY RESPONSIVE AND DESERVE AN "A" FOR CLEANING OUR HEATING SYSTEM WHEN IT STOPPED WORKING DUE TO CLOGGING, BUT AFTER AN INITIAL MEETING REGARDING UPGRADING OUR HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM, THEY HAVE IGNORED OUR REPEATED REQUESTS FOR A PROPOSAL AND ESTIMATE. I SUSPECT THEY ONLY WANT BIG JOBS AND OURS WAS NOT BIG ENOUGH, BUT THEY SHOULD NOT WASTE PEOPLE'S TIME IF THEY ARE NOT GOING TO FOLLOW THROUGH.

Inially, I was impressed with the responsiveness. I called and they came out the same day to look at our current set up. But then it became like pulling teeth to get the quote (3 weeks). I was planning to go with them for the work, but I could not get my questions answered (by phone and email), so I figured they did not really care about my business and went with another contractor.

MACFARLANE HAS BEEN MY HEATING OIL SUPPLIER FOR MANY YEARS. THEY RESPONDED WITHIN A FEW HOURS TO A PROBLEM WITH MY STEAM BOILER SHUTTING DOWN PERIODICALLY. THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED QUICKLY AND I WAS NOT CHARGED. I GAVE A "B" TO PRICE BECAUSE THEY CHARGE A SLIGHT BIT MORE FOR OIL DELIVERIES AND I BELIEVE THAT YOU NEED TO BE A CUSTOMER TO USE THEM.

WITHIN A WEEK, THE COMPANY CONTACTED ME FOR A FREE ANNUAL CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE OF MY BURNER AND BOILER. JOE, THE SERVICE MAN, WAS PROMPT AND SPENT OVER 90 MINUTES CLEANING AND ADJUSTING THE EQUIPMENT. FROM MY INITIAL INTERACTION WITH THE COMPANY, I BELIEVE IT IS A GREAT SERVICE COMPANY.
