Everything was a pleasure and very professional from the time I initially called them for the quote, to the point of scheduling and the actual date of the work. First of all, John and his son Phil are a pleasure to work with. They are very friendly, personable and genuinely nice people. We shared some nice talks over a few cups of tea ! Phil is very polite and one has to just talk to Phil to instantly see how polite and professional he is. Finula was so nice to talk to as well when I was working with her on quotes and scheduling. Both John and Phil were more than willing to share information and didn't mind me asking questions because I wanted to know how stuff works. Their work was top notch and they patched the walls and cleaned up very carefully. Everything works perfectly ! Phil told me they decided to do wiring for the door bell in such a way that it required fewer holes in the walls. Also, I had initially asked to have a gfci outlet in the kitchen fixed but John looked at it and told me it was fine; he reset it and it started working as normal. So I didn't have to get it replaced. One often reads about cases where the final cost is higher than the initial quote. While I do understand it is expected and legitimate in many cases when the scope of work increases due to unforeseen issues, it is always nice to have the final price come close to the quote. Well, John had given me a quote on the phone without even visiting my home and the final price was exactly the same as the initial quote ! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, professional and reasonable company who are also a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Converted two 2 pin outlets to 3 pin outlets, fixed a metal chandelier and fixed wiring for it that was old, installed outside power outlet, installed a new door bell system, installed six recessed lights.

John (the owner) and son Phil (also licensed) were PHENOMENAL! Not only was their work meticulous and thorough and by the book, it was done with a real sense of enthusiasm and a willingness to satisfy me, the customer. As we all know, modifying electrical in an older home can be a real challenge - and a simple job at our house was not so simple - and yet they faced it with a smile and with real gusto! I cannot tell you how lucky we were to have John and Phil at our house to make these important repairs and upgrades. They worked fast, but did not cut corners in any way. The cleanup was wonderful. They used quality materials, and they were dedicated to doing neat work. Their rates are more than reasonable. Words cannot express my gratitude to John and Phil for such a terrific job and for just being such great guys while at our house. We can't wait to have them back for future work! GO VESPA!
Description of Work: Resolved a serious issue with an overloaded circuit by splitting the overload into 4 brand new circuits. Prior so-called "professional and licensed" electrician thought it was smart to add an addition's wiring to a current circuit! Thank God our friends from Vespa came in to save us from a potential fire situation!

We called John Vespa after a search in Angie's List, because we needed someone to check some "knob-and-tube" wiring in my mother's attic. The knob/tube was found by an insulation contractor, who told us he was not allowed to install insulation on top of live knob/tube wiring. Vespa responded promptly to my call, made an appointment for only a few days after my call. He arrived ahead of schedule and worked quickly. Before even looking in the attic, he checked the fuse box and cellar wiring, and found knob/tube wiring there (of which I had been unaware). Unfortunately, the knob/tube is live and would be extremely costly to remove and replace, so we stopped there and had no further work done. Mr. Vespa was polite and explained things clearly. In all respects, he was professional and pleasant to deal with.
Description of Work: The contractor performed an inspection of "knob and tube" wiring found in my mother's attic.

The first time I hired Mr. Vespa and sons was from an Angies List $50 off any job coupon. I have now hired them a total of 4 times since September 2013 and I can't say enough good things. When Mr. Vespa arrived the first time to give me an estimate I had a list in order of priority on yellow legal pad three pages long! He was very patient as we walked around the house and property. He listened to my concerns and ideas and made excellent suggestions about how to do things. For example, I was having him replace the basement lights which were 50 years old at least with pull chains. He suggested a wall switch inside the door instead of a chain on the fixture. Great idea! Now I don't have to walk half way into a dark room to turn on the light. All of his suggestions have turned out to be really helpful and I never feel pressured about anything. He really knows how to work with his customer to get the best results and still keep the cost under control. He was also not bothered by the fact that the list kept growing as we talked. His son Dan did the actual work on all four jobs along with helper Sean and older brother Phil and like his father he was patient and very helpful, taking time to answer all my questions and to explain things. I initially wanted the two old in ceiling kitchen lights replaced with ceiling fans with lights but Dan pointed out that they might be intrusive to the line of sight since the ceiling is not very high. He suggested recessed lighting instead. After some research and advice from friends I went with Dan's suggestion and boy what a great idea! He was absolutely right and because he did such a great job placing the lights I can get rid of the old under cabinet lights instead of replacing them because I don't need them. Dan and Phil are polite, professional, efficient and very very neat. The rooms they worked in were cleaner when they left than when they arrived. All work is done quietly and quickly. Every suggestion has made life in my house better. The $5205.00 is the total for all the work done to date and I'm very happy with the price. Scheduling has been no problem although I work from home so I maybe more flexible than the average customer but I have never had to wait more than a week for the job to start. Also I would have no reservation at all about handing them my keys and telling them to lock up when they were done if I did have to go out. Calls are always answered promptly or messages returned no later than the next day. If you need electrical work done I can't recommend Vesper highly enough especially if you are unsure about how or what needs to be done. Thank you guys!
Description of Work: Repair driveway lamp post and timer, replace door bell and chimes, wire in two garage door openers to code and replace old outlet, repair outside outlets front and back, remove old fixtures and install new recessed lighting in kitchen and livingroom, install recessed lighting with motion sensor in entryway, repair non functioning light and install GFI outlet in downstairs bathroom, install fan with heat lamp in upstairs bathroom, replace old kitchen outlets with GFIs, upgrade outlets in livingroom, replace non functional lights in basement with new wall switch, move old fuse box from crawl space and wire into circuit breaker panel. This is an abbreviated list because there were so many little things that I added on once we started.

The electricians were here from 8:30 to 4:30. There were 3 electricians total including John Vespa, the owner. John was there the whole time. They were professional and did alert me to existing issues that were encountered during the work, so that corrective actions could be implemented, bringing unsafe conditions up to current codes. They walked me through the issues, showed me the problem and explained everything thoroughly, so I could understand what they were doing and why. They cleaned up after themselves and took away all the trash, so that?s a big plus for me. They communicated very well amongst themselves while they were doing the work. All in all, I would say it was a positive experience. I gave them a "B" for price price, as they are expensive relative to their competition, but I believe you get what you pay for. We've hired less expensive electricians in the past and definitely regretted it.
Description of Work: Install recessed light and fan in bathroom #1. Install recessed light, vanity fixture, and fan in bathroom #2. Install new lights outside of garage (3 lights total). Run wiring to 2 of these lights. Replace front entry light. Replace 2 fluorescent lights in garage and install 2 new fixtures. Run wiring to new fixtures. Replace outdoor electrical outlet with GFCI outlet. Install new circuit for A/C unit. Install Outlet for future garage door opener.

GREAT! Dan did most of the work. He was extremely professional and courteous. He was really helpful and allowed me to make a few changes to my initial order (and got me the revised pricing right away). He did the work quickly and cleaned up after himself (even patched a small hole in the celing near a recessed light he installed that was there from a previous fixture. His father, John, who had originally given me the estimate, came towards the end of the day to help him finish up. He even took out a bag of garbage (old fixtures and packaging) when he left. I can't say enough about John Vespa Electrical and would recommend them with no hesitation whatsoever.
Description of Work: Installed three light fixtures (2 sconces and 1 chandelier), changed switches and dimmers for 9-10 switches, installed recessed light, replaced outdoor 2-outlet box with new 4-outlet box, installed 2 LED adapters in existing recessed lights.

This was the second time that I have used John Vespa (& his sons) in less than 5 months for electrical work in my 63 year old home. I contacted John & my call was returned in less than a day with a followup e-mail & date to do the work. John and his sons are professional, honest, prompt, courteous, and are happy to answer all questions. They arrived on time, knew exactly what to do, and we went over the best options to extend the new circuits from the sump pump system in the back basement area to the main electric panel which is not located in the basement. As usual, they did an excellent job, including patching the wall near the panel and cleaning up. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to others without hesitation.
Description of Work: Installed two 20-amp circuits from panel to basement for sump pump system, and installed two GFCI receptacles for sump pump and back up generator system.

Looking for an electrician I called 4 top rated electricians on Angle's List. One wasn't responsive and professional - so he was out, and the 2 others were just as responsive, nice and honest as John Vespa was. However, John was the only one who realized by looking at the rooms that an extra switch I had in each room goes to a ceiling fan and not a switch controlled outlet, which meant there was no need to open up walls or repaint the room after the job since he could use the wires going to the ceiling for the lights. All the other electricians suggested that there is no way to do it without opening the walls (that they promised to patch), and that I will have to repaint when they were done. This allowed John to quote me a cheaper price than the others and it saved me from painting 3 rooms! It also showed me that John has more experience than the other top rated electricians here on Angie's List and that he really takes the time to understand the job and think it through. John came with his son and another electrician to make sure his son (who did the job) understood what needed to be done, and they all spent a lot of time helping us decide where to locate the lights (our rooms have vaulted ceilings and the decision wasn't obvious. They made sure to cover the floors and furniture to protect them and prevent dust while they were working and left the rooms very clean when they were done. They suggested that I get shorter stems for the ceiling's fans and showed me how to replace them myself, and offered to help me replace them at no charge next time they come to install a dining room light that didn't arrive yet. So in my mind it is John's experience, how much they all care about you as a customer and the job, and how clean they work that make John Vespa and his son's different than other top rated electricians here.

Very well! Came day 1, called as he was running late. Returned day 2, worked 4-5 hours on it. Everything cleaned up, no mess. Work looks perfect.
Description of Work: Wiring to a porch ceiling fan had short circuited. Wires had to be replaced through wall and ceiling--very difficult. Another electrician refused to do it. They called back immediately to set up appointment. Quoted exactly what their fees were. Ended up replacing the ceiling fan too. Very professional electrician.

Mr. Vespa returned a telephone call on the same day that I called him, Tuesday, October 8th. After discussing my electrical needs, we set up an appointment for today. An electrician arrived on time at 10:00 a.m. He was friendly, efficient, and very professional. After replacing the light fixture in the hallway, he installed the chime for the doorbell system. In the process, he discovered that I needed a new doorbell transformer which he then installed. I would definitely hire Mr. Vespa again.

WOWOWOWOW, John Vespa's crew did an outstanding job. Our kitchen was so dark and dreary and the guys did such a great job with the placement and installation of the 6 lights. Now it's like having a whole new kitchen. During the estimation phase of the project, John was very upfront about having to update the wiring from two wire 1950's wiring to today's wiring which was an additional $350. One of the main reasons I chose John was the other estimate I received did not include updating the wiring. During the installation the guys found exposed wiring in the attic that was arcing, they fixed the issue (additional charge of $75). They were very professional, cleaned up after themselves and even patched the ceiling which was a nice thing to do. I will certainly use John Vespa in the future!! Thanks!

The electrician arrived right on time, and diagnosed the problem very quickly. We were switching from an electric stove to a gas one, so we needed a "regular" plug behind the stove rather than a 220 plug. We found an old standard electrical box behind the stove, but it was non-functional. He determined that it was actually the breaker for this particular outlet in the main panel that was corroded and causing the problem (I never would have figured that out). He replaced the breaker, and also moved the outlet further up the wall, as it was slightly blocked by the new gas pipe in its old location. He also patched the old hole with drywall and spackle and detached the 220 line. Since he finished that project relatively quickly, I also had him take a look at a bathroom light with two 3-way switches that hadn't been working for a while. While I assumed it was a problem with one of the switches, he determined that it was actually the connection in the light itself, and fixed it very quickly. All in all I am very pleased with the quality of the work for what I feel was a reasonable price, and would use John Vespa again.

This was a very professional done job. Communication was excellent from the beginning - mostly via phone messages, which was OK with me due to my work schedule. I was told during initial communication what to expect as far as the pricing was concerned. A date and time was set for the work to be done and they were right on time. I had to go to work that day after showing the electricrians what I needed done; but it wasn't an issue as they discussed what they were going to do. After evaluating the job, they called me at work and explained what they intended to do and gave me a ballpark price. We agreed, they did the work and called me at work when they finished. My tenants, in whose apartment I had the work done and my wife - who paid them when they finished had no complaints at all as far as their professionalism and work. Everyone was satisfied with a job well done. I would use them again in the future if needed.
Description of Work: Reconnected and tested two (2) wall outlets; furnished and installed a 20 amp dedicated circuit - w/receptical for microwave in kitchen; furnished and installed a 20 amp dedicated circuit - w/receptical for bedroom fireplace; repaired wiring for bathroom lighting fixture.

Wonderful experience. Called them one day and John came the next, at the time he told me he would be there. I explained what I needed done and he set to work. These were older 2 prong outlets, not made for today's electronics. One of the outlets had been hissing, which is why we had called them, and was affecting the TV. At that outlet was one of those plugs that converted the 2 outlet into a 3 and, when I asked, John gave me a simple explanation as to why that defeated the purpose of the grounding. A different outlet needed... spacing to the outlet, but John explained why his handling of this outlet was different than the other two. I thought of other outlets which would need changing, so we will definitely call John Vespa Electrical again for further electrical work.
Description of Work: Upgraded 3 old electrical sockets to those for grounding in our 1927 home. One of the outlets looked as if it was from the 1940s. We will definitely have him return in the future to upgrade other electrical work.

Dan Vespa showed up on time, and was very professional. He snaked wire through the wall from the basement to the first floor. He Installed the light I purchased and provided a light switch. When he was done he gave me the bill, and informed me that his Dad john would be along in a few minutes to patch the holes he had made in the wall. Cleaned up and you would never no they were ever here. They are a very professional, fair company and I will be keeping them in my speed dial for future jobs!

Outstanding experience. John responded immediately to my inquiry and promptly scheduled a time to meet. He went through the various parts of the job in great detail, prepared a detailed and accurate scope of work, and his price was not the absolute lowest but by far was the one in which I had the most confidence. John's team arrived when scheduled, walked through the proposed work, called me several times to confirm items and/or ask questions, suggested additional solutions, procured bulbs for the new chandelier, accommodated my schedule, met me elsewhere in the city to pick up house keys, and generally were super responsive, super polite, super friendly. They also patched the few holes they had to make in the drywall and spotlessly cleaned up after themselves. On top of all this, Finula at John's office was responsive to all inquiries, processed the billing quickly, and was friendly and polite. This is a topnotch operation from John down through the members of his team.

We had a few less than steller experiences with two local electricians a couple of years ago. We had to call in the second one to re-do some of the work the first one did, and he wasn't that great either. So....we were not looking forward to dealing with another company. I did my research on Angie's List and was surprised to find so many great reviews for this company. I called John and received a call back promptly. He offered to send someone out to assess the work and give us a price, or we could go with a price and materials quote over the phone. (They didn't charge travel time even though they are based in Dedham and we live in Natick.) We had already decided we wanted this company to do the work based on the Angie's List results. John's son Phil, and another electrician, Sean, arrived exactly on time in a spotless truck. Phil kept us apprised of what they were doing and why. They took no breaks, and left only to grab a quick lunch and go to the supply house for additional materials. They cleaned up so well that the house looked better when they left than when they arrived. We appreciated that Phil pointed out a code violation in a closet, and I told him I would make an appointment to have it taken care of along with another small project some time in March. I had a coupon from the Angie's List monthly booklet and $50 was deducted from the bill. That was nice! My husband and I were so impressed with the work performed and the professionalism of Phil and Sean that I called John the next day to tell him. This company is a model for all others. The work was done correctly, on time and the pricing was as promised. I have already told a number of people about this company and felt compelled to write a review for them.
Description of Work: Rewired multiple outlets and switches, installed light fixtures, repaired wiring on garage door opener.

Phil and Sean have done work on my house three times now. They are fabulous, polite, clean up after they finish work, are hard workers , do what the say they will and have taught me a lot about electricy in old houses. I feel very safe in my house now. I strongly recommend them. The office staff is wonderful also.
Description of Work: Fixed light, put in ceiling fan, put safe electrical boxes in my 1920 house, about 6 or 7, put in fire alarms, 5 or so, put batteries in old fire alarms, changed about 7 ceiling fixtures.
