Malkin and Sons are the authorized installers for Home Depot. How the process works is that you have to pay $30 up front to have Malkin come out to measure your door frames. Home Depot will not trust your measurements. You don't have to be home for Malkin to measure your door openings. Malkin then forwards the measurements to Home Depot. Home Depot calls you to come in to pick out your doors and make a final payment. The installation for two doors was $97 per door, plus $10 per door to haul them away. Once the sale was completed, Malkin called me to set up a date for the installation. On the installation date, Malkin called to let me know that they were running about one hour late. They gave me the option to reschedule the job for another day, which I declined. Two men showed up and it only took them about an hour and a half to complete the job. Both men were very professional and polite. To my eye, this was a quality job. The ratio of the space between the perimeters of the door and frame was uniform. They had to do a little modification to the front door frame to get the new door to fit. This was done very neatly, you barely notice a tiny irregularity in the frame. Overall, I was very happy with the quality and speed of their work and would use them again.
Description of Work: Had two storm doors installed. Front and back doors.

I am not going to lie, at first I was very nervous about the quality of service/work we would receive from a Home Depot sub-contractor, but WOW! - Malkin & Sons were awesome! They were totally on point from arriving to take measurements to ensure a standard door would fit (you do not have to be home for this part) to full delivery and installation of the door itself! An appointment setter from M & S called to schedule an appt once they received word from Home Depot about when the ordered door would be arriving, and they actually give you a nice tight window of arrival time (our contractor was to arrive between 8 and 9:30 am; way better then the 4 - 5 hour windows the cable company gives you!) Once I confirmed the date and time, all we had to do was wait until the day arrived - and just like that, the contractor arrived on the right date AND right at 8:15 am. Installed the screen door within 45 minutes, no fuss, no mess, a perfect installation - it looks great! My husband was home for the installation and said that the gentleman was professional. All in all, we were extremely pleased. Thank you Malkin & Sons for a wonderful sub-contractor experience!
Description of Work: We purchased an Anderson Screen Door for our front entrance way from Home Depot in Watertown, MA and Malkin & Sons were assigned to us as the installation sub-contractor.

Contracted with HomeDepot to have 9 interior doors replaced and installed. Malkin & Sons sent out the measurer who took measurements - sent them to HomeDepot and on the date of install ALL the doors were the WRONG measurements. Malkin & Sons asked me if I could live with a 2+ inch gap at the bottom of my doors because my door openings are 80" but the doors that came were 78"...now this 2" gap would not take into account the shimming/fitting of the doors, ofcourse. I said NO. The doors had to be reordered. Malkin & Sons blamed HomeDepot - HomeDepot blamed Malkin & Sons. When the doors arrived for the second time the closet door sliders were not included in that shipment. I had to wait for those doors to come and and schedule and take a third day off to have the job completed almost 2 months later. When the closet doors did finally arrive the installer from Malkin & Sons told me they were the wrong sized doors again. I was furious! Homedepot told me that they weren't the wrong sized doors that the doors needed to be milled to fit and that the installer (Malkin & Sons) should have known this. Two hours later the installer shows back up and installs the doors rather quickly and leaves. After about an hour needing to cool off I looked at the closet doors and THEY ARE CROOKED. I called Malin & Sons they would not take my call. I called HomeDepot who said the installer said everuything was fine when he left. I was furious and HomeDepot offered to sendf out a HomeDepot mill worker to take a look. Never ever again will I allow Malkin & Sons or any company that contracts with them to do anything in my house. And, HomeDepot is very much not worth the added cost you pay thinking they'll stand by the work you pay them to have done.
Description of Work: Replaced all hollow interior doors with 5 panel solid Jeld-Wen doors.

These people are an unmitigated DISASTER. If I could give a grade lower than F, I would. They never follow through on a promise. I ordered a door from them through Home Depot in September. It is now January, still no door. When the door was installed at the end of November, it was too small--there were inch-wide gaps all around. It took three calls to schedule an appointment for the supervisor, Terry, to come out, in a four-hour window on a Saturday morning, to check the work. He never showed up. I called him on his cell phone to see where he was, but the phone was disconnected. When he did eventually get out there, he told me some story about his ex-wife stalking him. Great. So Terry finally agrees the doors are too small, and says someone will call me about the order. I get a call a few weeks later--someone wants to measure the doors. AGAIN. So I wait for another call from the office. Nothing. But they have my money, so why should they even care?
Description of Work: A pair of bi-fold closet doors.

1) THEY INSTALLED THE DOOR IMPROPERLY. THE STRIKE PLATE WAS INSTALLED TOO HIGH, SO THE DOOR DIDN'T LATCH. THE NEXT DAY, I CALLED, AND THEIR ANSWERING MACHINE SAID THEY WERE GONE ON VACATION FOR 2 WEEKS. I HAD TO FIX IT MYSELF TO KEEP THE WIND FROM GRABBING IT AND DESTROYING THE BRAND NEW DOOR. 2) EVEN AFTER I FIXED THE STRIKE PLATE, THE DOOR DIDN'T ALWAYS AUTOMATICALLY LATCH SHUT WHEN THE INTERIOR DOOR WAS CLOSED. WHEN THE INSTALLER FINALLY SHOWED UP (AFTER I COMPLAINED TO HOME DEPOT), HIS RESPONSE WAS ESSENTIALLY, "THAT'S THE WAY ANDERSEN DESIGNED IT". 3) AFTER TAKING THE DOOR MEASUREMENTS, IT TOOK 5 OR 6 WEEKS FOR THEM TO FINALLY SEND HOME DEPOT THE MEASUREMENTS--A PREREQUISITE FOR ORDERING A CUSTOM DOOR. THIS ONLY OCCURRED AFTER I CALLED/VISITED HOME DEPOT HALF A DOZEN TIMES TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. 4) THEY CHARGED ME AN EXTRA $75 FOR A CHEAP-LOOKING STRIP OF VENEER TO COVER SOME OLD HOLES IN THE DOOR FRAME. 5) $199 TOTAL FOR 1 HOUR OF WORK DONE IMPROPERLY!
