Two months after getting my free quote, they still can’t get themselves here to perform the work. To be fair, I asked them to work on Saturday since I work during M-F. The first time they were scheduled, instead of calling me to cancel, I called them to confirm the timing only to be told that the guys decided they didn’t want to work that Saturday. The second time they were scheduled it was too cold. The third time they were scheduled, after not showing up for half an hour after the hour long window they were due to arrive, I was told they had gotten into an accident and couldn’t get here.

Jones Boys was great to work with. I had a really bad experience with another contractor through the MassSave program and decided to use Jones Boys. They walked me through the whole process of having the contractor switched over in the MassSave system and all the accompanying paperwork. Once everything got straightened out, they were easy to work with, easy to schedule with and did a great job. The guys who did the work were very respectful of my home and my cats. They had to bend back the aluminum siding to get the insulation in the walls and tried very hard to do as little damage as possible. I'd highly recommend working with them. Also, My sister and brother in law used them for a new construction build and had a great experience as well.

We did it through a state sponsored program. It was a good quality job, and the house is substantially warmer than it was before, and our heating bills are lower, but it is an incredibly messy job. They were very professional, very courteous, did a good job of explaining what they were going to do each step of the way, but there is no escaping the fact that they didn't engage every inch of your home. They cleaned everything up.

Well after reading the reviews on Angie's List, I was a little afraid of what to expect when they showed up. But I wasn't about to reschedule as we had been waiting for more than 5 months to get the work done. Our project was done in conjunction with the Mass Save program, which is a great program but if you participate, you better be prepared to WAIT. That being said, we had about $5000 worth of work to be completed on our house, but we only ended paying about $1800 out of pocket. The person that I dealt with primarily over the phone regarding scheduling and other things was Bob Meehan. Bob is great and very responsive; I can't say much about other people on the front end at Jones Boys, but if you have an issue, ask for Bob (sorry Bob!). He's very nice, knowledgeable, and seems to want to get things done right and make you happy. As for the crew, the reason I gave them a B for punctuality is because they were supposed to start on Wednesday morning. They actually didn't come until after noon and only stayed a few hours that day, but they more than made up for that later. Our project was a 4 day project, and they were very punctual the rest of the days. Everything else deserves a solid A. We were very lucky to have Juan and his crew; they worked hard and were very respectful and very clean!! They even came to finish the work on a Saturday, which really impressed us, as it took them the entire day. Throughout the project, they would show us pictures of their progress, which we really appreciated as it is difficult to access our attic space to see for ourselves. My husband and I were very happy with their performace, and we would recommend them to anyone in a heart beat. Thanks Jones Boys!! We are looking forward to saving a good amount on our utility bills.

Jones boys has a reasonable front end making and updating appointments. That's all well and good. The crew that was sent to do the work was a let down, in terms of professionalism, job success and finish quality .I was told that the crew would start shortly after lunch on a Thursday, but they weren't onsite until 2:30 or so, and promptly got their truck stuck in the dirt on either side of my driveway. They did not ring the door bell or announce their presence in any way. I still don't understand why they didn't back the truck into my long narrow drive, or back out and try again when they realized that the parking area wouldn't provide enough area to turn their large truck around. Instead they drove more than 6 feet onto my lawn over some pine saplings and a forsythia, and 3 feet off the other side. Given the strange warm winter, it's no surprise that the truck got stuck. They had to hire a tow truck, and wasted the afternoon. I was told that they'd bring rakes and other tools to try to repair my lawn. When the crew returned the next day, they did not bring any landscaping tools, and only made a crude effort to stamp down the mess after some prompting. I'm used to services that reseed odd tire treadmarks on the edge of my narrow drive before I realize that there's any cause for concern. They weren't much better with regards to the way they handled the insulation. Their before and after blow door tests showed no significant change in results meaning that thier insulation procedure opened as many cracks as it filled. Vinyl siding reinstallation was sloppy, and some pieces of window trim were knocked out of square. My house has a small amount of vertical wood siding near an entry way. The crew left 2-inch holes with wood plugs, and didn't even carry wood filler to make an effort to provide a sealed and paint-able surface. After some complaints, they agreed to knock in the plugs and fill the surface. When they returned to reset the plugs, they hammered about 4 of 20 before slapping on a very thin coat of filler and running away from the job site.
Description of Work: Jones boys was contracted to blow in insulation as part of the Mass state energy program. The total job cost was quite a bit more than I paid, but the rest came from the government agencies. This was a straight forward blow-in insulation install for a 1 story 50s ranch.

The initial consultation estimate visit went great...was very impressed with the salesperson (who was actually the manager of the office). Very knowledgeable and helpful in making recommendations for replacing the trashed fiberglass batts that were falling down under our family room. Unfortunately after than initial visit everything went downhill pretty fast...they need a dramatic overall to their entire office operation! After receiving the official estimate and work agreement within a few days of the initial visit, we sent back the signed paperwork and the required 50% deposit. Since they were very clear that we would need to vacate our home during the foam installation and stay out for at least 24 hours after, we were pretty interested in scheduling the job since it meant we also had to find someplace else to stay for the night. After waiting for more than six weeks with absolutely no word from the Jones Boys to actually schedule our job we finally began calling the office. On the first call they told my wife that "yea, the paperwork had been sitting on my desk for the last couple weeks" but that he couldn't find it right then and would call us back as soon as he found it. Two days later with no callback, we tried again. Again we were told that they needed to find the paperwork but would call us back later in the day. Guess what...no call back. So the following day we called yet again and refused to hang up until we got a date scheduled, which we did for a little over a week later. The day before the install we called the office again to confirm that they were actually going to show and were told to expect the crew at around 9:00 am. The following day they didn't actually show until about 10:30, but they got to work right away and were very professional. When they completed the job later that afternoon, they told us that as long as we stayed out of the house for a couple more hours we probably could actually return that same night as the "fumes weren't that bad." I returned later that night and they were correct, while you could smell the foam curing, it wasn't too bad and they had done a great job cleaning everything up. Unfortunately, they had forgotten to install the vapor barrier that was on the work agreement, so the following Monday I called the office yet again to let them know. They told me that I was correct, they should have installed the vapor barrier and he would have someone stop by later that afternoon to finish the job. When no one ever showed, I called again two days later and the office staff apologized for forgetting to schedule the job and said someone would be out the next morning. When the next day came and went with no visit, I called the office yet again. The scheduler apologized (again) for forgetting to actually send someone to finish the job and said he would have someone out within two hours. Needless to say, no one came the rest of the day, but to my surprise, a team actually did arrive the following morning and finished the job within an hour. In addition to all the scheduling problems, we also had problems with the billing department. On the day of my third call trying to schedule someone to come finish the actual work, I received three bills in the mail from Jones Boys. All three showed different amounts due and all three were actually wrong. We had paid 50% up front ostensibly before they could schedule the job to begin with, but none of that deposit was actually reflected in the bills we received, so I made yet another call to the office and asked to speak to the billing person. They were not in the office when I called, so I left a detailed voicemail explaining my issue and questions and asked her to call me back. Living up to my expectations, she never called back, so I tried again four days later and actually did reach her in person. She apologized for not calling me back (I'm sensing a trend) but said she hadn't actually figured out what had happened yet. While on the phone with her, she said she suspected that the billing department in their home office had just misapplied our deposit to the wrong account, but she needed to call the home office to confirm and would...(you guessed it) "call me back". It is now three days later and still no call...[Update: She called back at the end of day 3] Overall I would say that the install team did a good job (other than not initially completing all the work that was on the work order). Our family room is noticeably warmer now, even as temperatures have dropped, but with all the hassles of dealing with an office that seems to be in complete chaos, I'm not sure I would ever use Jones Boys again.
Description of Work: Removed old fiberglass batts from the crawlspace under our family room and then replaced the insulation with blown closed cell foam. Added a 4M poly vapor barrier to the ground in the crawlspace.

Getting commitment from the sales person was a grueling process. You would be left to believe that they don't need the business. Part one was done several weeks later. This week part two was done - but they were supposed to return later the same day. Never returned. We called the company and got a new date ( which would mean more time off from work.) We will finish the project ourselves and save almost $200. I was less than thrilled with the sales and responsiveness of the job. However, they labor went fine.

From the first phone call this process went smoothly and quickly. A free estimate was done without the need to enter the house. I received an estimate very quickly via e-mail and snail mail. I felt assured by the level of knowledge demonstrated by the staff I spoke with as well as the crew who performed the work. Our house is older and has asbestos shingles on the second floor making access from the outside limited. The crew went above and beyond to find ways to minimize drilling inside my house. They also worked outside in snow and freezing rain - even shoveling a path around the house through about 3.5 feet of snow. The estimate was accurate and our house is noticeably warmer and quieter. I would recommend them to anyone. They certainly exceeded my expectations.

Jones Boys was easy to reach, and Shawn (the estimator) showed up on time and helped answer any concerns/questions that I had. My quote arrived very quickly. At this point in time, we are leaning towards cellulose blown-in insulation instead of fiberglass, but Jones Boys seemed like a quality organization from my brief experience with them.
Description of Work: Contacted Jones Boys for estimates on insulating our older home. Received multiple quotes, one for blown in fiberglass insulation and the other for insulating our attic with fiberglass batts and/or closed-cell insulating foam. Cost above was the cost for blown-in fiberglass insulation.

FIRST, I SHOULD SAY, THEY DID A GOOD JOB INSULATING MY THIRD FLOOR. THEY WERE NEAT AND CLEAN AND PROFESSIONAL, BUT... FOR A JOB THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE A DAY OR LESS: 1. THEY RESCHEDULED ON ME TWICE (1 TIME I HAD TAKEN A DAY OFF FROM WORK ALREADY) - NEVER APOLOGETIC, ONLY EXCUSES. 2. THE JOB ENDED UP TAKING 3 DAYS DUE TO EQUIPMENT BREAKDOWNS - ALL THREE DAYS THEY SAID THEY WOULD BE THERE BY 8AM - THEY ARRIVED AT 1PM, 12PM, AND 10:30AM RESPECTIVELY. NEVER ONCE DID THEY CALL TO SAY THEY WOULD BE LATE. THEY WASTED 4 OF MY MORNINGS WAITING AROUND FOR THEM. THEY WASTED MY SISTER''S AND NEIGHBOR''S MORNINGS AS WELL, AFTER I HAD TO LEAVE FOR WORK AND NEEDED SOMEONE ELSE TO LET THEM IN. NEVER ONCE DID THEY APOLOGIZE, BUT RATHER ONLY GAVE EXCUSES. AND, NEVER ONCE DID THEY OFFER ANYTHING (A DISCOUNT, SOMETHING EXTRA?)IN RETURN FOR THE INCREDIBLE INCONVENIENCE. I WILL NEVER HIRE THEM AGAIN.

OVERALL THEY DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB. THEY WERE PROFESSIONAL, SERVICE ORIENTED AND WERE VERY COST COMPETITIVE (OUT OF 4 QUOTES OBTAINED.)
