Downs Hardwood Floors

I am not sure what their work is like but i went to the job site and spent and hour with them so i could get some options and was promised to get a write up. That was the last i heard from them so the next guy who showed up got the $7000 job and started immediately. Really writing this because it was a waste of my time.

Very helpful in terms of providing a quote via email/text. Good group of hard workers that were very nice and professional throughout. Best prices around too. Don’t hesitate, they are the real deal.

It couldn't have gone any better. First, he responded right away to my text message asking for a quote, which he provided before seeing the job based on the square footage I provided. He provided two options for the finish (water-based or oil), and explained the benefits of each. He scheduled us for Wed. the following week, and even adjusted his schedule a bit to come earlier in the day than planned to ensure the job was completed before the weekend. He assured me there would be minimal dust and odor, and this was indeed the case. The results are fantastic. He sanded down to the bare wood, removing all imperfections, and applied three coats of oil-based Bona Woodline satin finish. And the final cost was his initial quote. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking to have their floors brought back to life.

Phil was wonderful to work with. He's not only great at what he does, but he is also a great guy. My wife and I had some trouble deciding how much work to bite off, as well as what styles/colors to go with, and Phil patiently guided us through the process. He even fielded a call well into the evening to help up us nail down a final decision that we were not only comfortable with but excited about. We ultimately couldn't be happier with the end result. It is exactly what we were looking for.

Phill was fantastic. Hands down the most confidence inspiring contractor we've ever worked with. He's professional, responsive, and flexible. Phil was able to work around multiple problems like electrical issues, heat issues, and even damaged sub-floor. He took every hurdle in stride and really came through for us. Phil was absolutely fantastic! He was responsive, timely, honest and able to fit my job into some very specific time constraints I had. Phil was flexible in providing a couple quotes including some rooms and not and was honest and clear about sharing the pros and cons of the different options. We had used Phil previously and with great success to refinish the floor in one room. We had him back to buff and coat all of our hardwood floors. He came in the morning and finished in the afternoon on the exact day he had promised. The floors look wonderful and, as he had last time, the job was less than competing quotes. Phil did a fantastic job refinishing the wood floors and stairs in our home. Everything turned out beautiful and looking as close to new as you can get in a house from the 1800s. From the first phone conversation we had, he was extremely professional and provided a lot of helpful information for someone who was not familiar with the process of refinishing floors. He was very communicative and was easily reachable throughout the whole process, and he even finished one day ahead of schedule! I highly recommend Downs Hardwood Floors!

We agreed upon a price and set everything up over the phone in about 3 minutes. Phil showed up on time, worked quickly and did a fantastic job. He was professional and courteous throughout the entire process and the floor looks great.

Phil and his crew did a great job. They were pleasant and professional at all times. Their work was top-notch. When work was delayed by heavy snow, Phil asked if they could work through the weekend in order to finish up on time. The floors look beautiful and I am thrilled. Highly recommend.

It went well with one hitch. Sanding the poly off a light hardwood like maple can miss tiny spots which means that the stain has small white patches where poly still remained. Rather than scrape and re-stain those spots, Phil told me he preferred to re-sand the room, which he did at his expense. The job went 5 days instead of 4 but I had no issue with that. Additionally the floor boards were somewhat separated, so Phil made sure that the gaps were stained with a thin brush, once I said this was my preference. Finally, I had wanted adjust the stain color before he started, and he did so. I would hire him again.

I can only imagine if their was an issue after a wood floor installation the level of response I would get. If you want to waste your time with Downs Hardword Flooring I wish you luck.

They were fast and did high quality work. The floors look completely different and we were pleasantly surprised by the price.

I should have read ALL the reviews on this site before calling him. I was the victim of the "no call back, never to be heard from again". I called them up and the first call back was prompt. They scheduled a time to come out to look at the work I needed and to give me an estimate. I was told I would receive an estimate in my email. I waited one week and on the 8/25, I called up and asked if they had forgotten about me. The guy who I spoke with, not sure if it was the owner, said it was definitely sent but that he was having trouble with his quickbooks and that if I didn't receive anything in my email within the hour, call back. Also, he told me to "check my spam folder just is case" . I waited the hour and called back because nothing had arrived. When I talked with him, he slipped up but then caught himself. The first thing he said was "the reason why we didn't send it" and then stopped and quickly went on with "the flooring you want has been discontinued but I'm going to call all my suppliers to see if anyone has anything in stock and we will also come back out with samples to see if we can match your existing floor. He asked me what I would want to do in the event that he couldn't get any. I told him I may just elect to do the hallway and bedroom but lets wait until we hear from his supplier. At this point, I knew nothing was ever emailed to me in the first place but I thought I would still work with him because he was going to look around for me. Wrong! I've never heard back from him since 8/25/16. Read ALL the reviews on anyone you are considering on hiring. If you notice there is a similar negative pattern, call the next person in line. I wasted a month waiting around for a call back that never came.

Phill, the owner, accommodated our very limited time frame to get our floors done prior to our move. He not only gave us an estimate, but sanded and stained 4 areas so that we could make a color choice.

Everything went very smoothly with the project by Downs Hardwood Floors at my home. Mr. Phil Downs communicated with me skillfully and professionally. He sought to do the project on dates I sought. He explained his company's process and pricing for removal of old carpet and its nails. He kept to the project schedule we arranged covering three days -- doing the prep, the first sanding and an initial coat on the first day. He returned on the second day to put down another coat, and he returned on a third day to put down another coat and install a new hardwood threshold. He answered my questions about the polyurethane and the drying process. The look of this floor turned out fabulous.

Phil came by for initial look at the place, promised to send a quote, and then stopped returning phone calls altogether. Total blow-off. He even went so far as to make up a story about "oh the quote must have gone to your spam folder" (it's NOT in my spam folder). I understand my 230-year-old home presents difficulties and that it's easier for contractors to go with more straightforward jobs. If he didn't want the job that's fine, but he should have been up front about it instead of leaving me hanging for weeks while I wasted my time calling and texting him, and while the work could have been performed by someone else. Total waste of time.

Phil came out promptly to give an estimate on the work and was quick to return calls and texts about the job. Installers showed up when promised and worked efficiently finishing the job in 2 days. They did neat, professional work and left the house clean at the end of the job. I would definitely recommend Downs based on my experience.

Phil saved us! He was able to quickly come in and save us from a bad refinish job from a total amateur that had dragged on two weeks. Phil came in and got it done fast and beautifully. Our hardwood floors are over 60 years old and have been covered by wall-to-wall carpet for at least 40 years. Thanks to the work Phill and his helper did they now look gorgeous! The floors were dirty and stained in some areas, and there were marks from where the carpeting had been tacked down. The end result exceeded our expectations. Phill was there exactly on time and the work was done in three days. Phill left our house clean and nearly dust-free. We couldn't be more pleased with the end results and would not hesitate to recommend him.

There were some hiccups in getting the work scheduled at first, with some unreturned calls, texts, and emails. However, once we settled on a specific day and time, Phil was there every day to work on our floors and finished all 3 coats in 3 days. The floors look absolutely beautiful. Phil took extra care to tell us where our floors were wearing down in spots and helped clean out a spot with some extra wear to the floorboards (the floors are extremely old). They look so nice I want to do the rest of the house!

Great experience. Phil was so easy to communicate with. I could tell that he took pride in his work. We get so many compliments on our floors. I highly recommend Downs.

How did it go? Well the short answer is perfectly. 1) We called and asked Downs Hardwood Floors for a quote on the living room floor: We agreed on a date and time to meet, and Phil arrived on the agreed date ad time. By the end of the day we received a written quote by email. "Punctual" 2) My wife and I reviewed the quote that evening and decided to move forward with the quote. We called Phil and agreed on a start date and time. Phil and his crew arrived on the agreed upon day and time. "Punctual" 3) He explained what was going to take place and then proceeded to work: a) By the end of day one, the floor was repaired, the floor was sanded and prepped, and the first coat of polyurethane had been applied. b) On the morning of the second day he had sanded the first coat and completed the second coat. c) On the morning of the third day, he completed the job. He completed the job when he said he would. "Punctual" The floor looks wonderful. "Quality" I can honestly say that my experience with Downs Hardwood Floor has been wonderful. On time on budget.
