BROWN'S KITCHEN & BATH

It started OK, but in the end working with Brown's was an absolute nightmare. Once they got our money their responsiveness and attention to detail greatly deteriorated. They hired subcontractors for the tile work (which is fine, we knew they would), and then never told the tiler what we wanted done (which was something a little complicated). So the tiler was surprised and angry when he arrived. This was emblematic of the entire experience. The new cabinets were put in slightly off-kilter in some areas, i.e. not lining up with the walls or ceiling exactly as they should. They told us this was a problem with the house, not their workmanship. They also chipped some of the wood in the cabinets and wouldn't have fixed it unless I asked. But the worst part was their attitude. This was our first renovation, and we asked them to replace the existing crown moldings in our kitchen with a new molding that would match the look of the new cabinets. We knew it would be complicated, but they agreed to do it, so we expected that they would at least *try* to do a good job. It was a disaster. The shoddy workmanship by their carpenter, Bill, was so bad that it looked like my three-year-old did it. When my wife told him it was unacceptable (I was at work at the time), Bill explained that to fit the moldings together seamlessly he'd have to take some of the other moldings down, and then said (I quote) "That ain't gonna happen." Needless to say, I emailed pictures of the shoddy moldings to the owners and they eventually had another guy come out and "fix" it. It still looks shoddy, if somewhat better, and eventually we're going to have to pay someone else to come in and do the job right. Overall, we were extrememely disappointed with the experience and would never use this company again.

They did a good job, but there were some mix ups because they used a couple of different crews and the coordination between them wasn't very good.

I TOOK OFF WORK TO BE THERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS, AND ENSURE NO 'RE-DO'S.' I DIDN'T BOTHER THEM AND I DON'T BELIEVE THEY FELT THREATENED BY MY SUGGESTIONS. ANYTHING I ASKED FOR THAT WASN'T IN THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL WAS WORKED INTO THE JOB AND THEY CHARGED ME APPROPRIATELY. THEY HAD GREAT SUGGESTIONS AS WELL. THE ROOM CAME OUT GREAT. THEY EVEN TOOK GREAT CARE TO MAKE SURE MY TWO CATS WERE SAFE DURING THE PROJECT, THAT THEY DIDN'T GET HURT OR TRAPPED IN THE FLOOR (THEY DID A 'HEADCOUNT' AT THE END OF EACH DAY BEFORE LEAVING). THEY EVEN PUT THE OLD TOILET BACK EACH NIGHT SO I COULD USE IT. THE HARD PART WAS COORDINATING ADD'L ELECTRICAL WORK OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF THE BATHROOM. I THINK THERE WAS A COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE SUBCONTRACTOR. I DON'T THINK THEY KNEW I WANTED THE ADD'L WORK DONE AT THE SAME TIME AS THE BATHROOM AND SCHEDULING AT THAT TIME PROVED TAXING. WHEN THEY DID COME, THEIR WORKMANSHIP WAS PROFESSIONAL, & THEY DID A GREAT JOB.

ONE GUY USUALLY COMES TO DO ESTIMATE, THIS COMPANY CAME WITH ELECTRIAN, CARPENTER , PLUMBER AND OWNER. THAT WAY THEY HAD ALL ESTIMATES AT ONE TIME AND EVERYONE WAS ON THE SAME PAGE

OUTSTANDING WORKMANSHIP - THEIR CARPENTER, GRANT, IS A TRUE CRAFTS PERSON. EXCELLENT SUB-CONTRACTORS; COMMITMENT TO RESOLVING ISSUES/PROBLEMS.
