Everything went well. He was a nice guy, he was on time, and easy to work with. I don't have any complaints about the service at all. He completed all the work in one day without issue.
Description of Work: Replaced exterior trim around home as well as fixing some door hinges. He also drywall patched a few areas on the interior of my home.

Although my initial impressions of John Alden and his company were positive, I am now thoroughly disappointed with the job that he did. His work was not completed in a timely manner, and he abandoned the project before it was complete. He was unprofessional in his refusal to return calls and engage in discussions when work fell substantially behind schedule, and I have continued to discover that much of the work he completed is of poor quality and has left dangerous conditions in and around my home. The original plans called for the addition of a wine cellar, and it became clear that John did not know how to construct one. He never completed this part of the job. He stated that he had framed the walls including vapor wrap, but it turned out that this was installed incorrectly. The work that he completed on this room had to be substantially revised when I hired another builder to finish it at significant cost. Months after he completed the porch on the house, I discovered that the railings were very loose, and pose a danger of falling if they are leaned on. This is a major issue, especially as the porch is one story off the ground. It is over 6 months since John was notified about this and he has made inadequate efforts to correct it. The footings for the porch were incorrectly positioned, and he returned to redo those only after the building inspector in my town personally intervened. I recently had my roof inspected because of a leak that developed adjacent to the new addition. The roofing company, Sprague (very good reputation and reviews) inspected the roof on the addition and found that it was not properly installed and that it was not close to meeting code and poses a substantial risk for leaking. I am now in the position of needing to hire a company to redo my roof. The initial estimate for this job is almost $10,000. The estimate I have received for fixing the railings on my porch is about $7,000. At this point, I am hoping that my town building inspector will help with these issues. Of note, the inspection has not been completed and the porch remains unsafe. If the inspector can't help me, I plan to file a Chapter 142A claim. I hope it doesn't go that far. I do not think that anyone should hire this contractor.
Description of Work: Built a new porch on the back of the house, built an addition consisting of a study and a storage room below it, renovated existing space in the home to create a wine room
