On a scale from 1 to 5 and 5 being the worst, I would give them a 5. We have a few plants and trees in the back of my house and we have a few plants and trees in the front of the house. The whole time they have been servicing my trees, they never did the back. We have an oriental plum tree, it is ornamental tree and it became diseased with an infection of some sort and my husband talked to them at least 2 or 3 times about it and they never did a thing about it. My husband Googled it and found the issue with it and it was a devastating disease and we got a handle on it by caring for it our self. They are awful in the lawn and their attitude, because we live very far off from their home base, just a bad attitude. I don't like them. There are 2 separate issues, the tree and the lawn, the tree service gets the worst rating and the lawn was no better. We actually cancelled the lawn last year and we just found out that the last visit they gave us, they never did the trees in the back which is nuts. If it was a good service, it is a good price but with the bad service it is a terrible price. It was $90 for the lawn and around $60 for the trees per visit, so around $150 per visit. I can't understand because common sense says you do the front and the back. It was never ordered by us to do it that way. They just said that they were going by their office which is located in some other state, southern state. I would give them the worst rating. We just aren't going to use their service anymore. The sad news is that I used to live in Connecticut and it was TruGreen that we used and it was wonderful so it was not all of TruGreen, it was just the one that was servicing us. That was why I called them in the first place, because we had them in Connecticut and their service was wonderful.
Description of Work: I used TruGreen maybe a month ago. They serviced my trees.

First service (spring) was late into spring and I already had a ton of weeds, they were supossed to be there earlier to prevent the weeds. Second service (second week of summer) they did fertiziler and grub control. They were supposed to also do weed control again but said it was too hot for that (however I did get a bill for the full service) This week I got infested with Japanse beatles which come from grubs. Every other year I did my own lawn and have done grub ex in the spring to prevent the grubs, in my opnion the second week of summer was too late to apply it. Then when I called today, they said the grub application that they apply does not prevent grubs, it just prevent the damage to the grass that they cause. If I had know this I would have applied my own grub ex to prevent them, and now its too late. Not very impressed at all and canceled my contract as of today. Also, customer service was hard to reach on the phone and they were not overly friendly.

Description of Work: I received a flyer in the mail advertising consultation services to help me determine the best treatment course for our lawn. I called the number and explained that I have not had lawn treatments in the past and wasn't sure quite where to start and was looking for some guidance on what treatments are available and for a price quote. The representative (male) asked to speak to my husband because he would know more about it- completely sexist. I told him I would probably be able to answer his questions to assist in determining the treatments we need. Apparently he felt it was a waste of his time because he asked for my zip code and transferred me to their service department for existing customers. The next rep told me she didn't know why he transferred me there but took my phone number, placed me on a two minute hold, then the next representative picked up and said she understands I am looking to set up an account. I said no, I am looking for guidance and a price quote. She took my address then asked me what services I wanted when I had clearly explained that I don't know where to start and need assistance. I will not use Tru Green. I should have checked the reviews on Angie's List before I bothered calling them.

Response from TRU GREEN CORP
Dear Member, Thank you for contacting TruGreen via Angie’s List. I apologize that we did not meet your customer service expectations and understand your frustration. This is something we definitely would like to investigate as that is not the standard of customer service our company strives to deliver. If we may ask that you please provide us with any additional information that would assist us in our investigation (for ex. name of representatives, time and date). Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated (you may also email us directly at customercare@trugreenmail.com ). Also, I can have a member of management from your local TruGreen office reach out to you to answer any questions you may have in reference to your lawn and offer guidance. If this is ok, please provide a telephone number and best time to reach you in your email. Thank you, TruGreen Customer Care

The lawn applications for our three properties have been satisfactory but it is the office staff who seem very disorganized and no one knows what the other one is doing. After many phone calls with the office staff, they still don't have the right tenants connected to the right addresses. We are hoping they can eventually straighten out their records.
Description of Work: We have been paying for services for three properties for about four years and they can't keep their records straight. We have called many times to correct their records but they still list the wrong tenants at the wrong locations which makes it very difficult when trying to figure out which properties they serviced. We prepaid for seven treatments (six fertilizer and one grub) per property per year. Each and every month all year Tru Green calls and insists we should purchase additional services i.e. aerating in fall and spring, flea and tick treatments (three) , lime treatment. They have been relentless. The team who actually applies the lawn applications are fine, but the office staff are the ones who are frustrating to deal with.

They used to be called ChemLawn and now they are TruGreen. I have no problem with them at all. They are good, they don't send the bill right away but they eventually send it. They give you an online of what they did and what they put on your lawn. The quality is good. I don't have to call them, they just renew my contract every year so I guess that is pretty responsive. They give you a price list and if you send it in a little early you get a little discount; $10.00 or $12.00 dollars maybe.
Description of Work: I use TruGreen for lawn treatments. I paid $50.00 for chick control because we have chickweed in our yard.

The last year they worked for us, they were fertilizing dead lawn! Between drought and untrained employees, we were paying for them to fertilize dead lawn. Amazing. We really liked their sales manager but had to tell him they were fired after many years of service. Chemlawn was good. Tru Green was awful.
Description of Work: This company was originally Chemlawn and we had been using them for years. Chemlawn was bought out and became Tru Green and took over the annual fertilizing of our lawn. The provided no other service except fertilizing and weed prevention.

Lawn looks good, healthy grass, grass is getting thicker, weeds are getting fewer. Grub control not working, have many brown spots of dying grass from grubs eating roots. Biggest issue with Tru-green is you can not contact the local person that does the lawn treatment. When you call you get some service in Texas. I asked for a local number and was refused. I like to be able to call my provider directly to discuss issues or change schedules.
Description of Work: 5 applications of lawn weed and feed including grub control per season, I am in my second season.

I think they are good for the most part. I ask them to do service for not much less than what they charge me to do it. They are well priced and they do good work. I spent $25 yesterday, but it's about $100 when they usually come to fertilize. It depends on the type of work that they do. They come in and fertilize 4, 5 times a year and its 100 bucks for each visit. Overall, they are excellent. They come and do what they need to do and they call and let me know when they need to do it. They respond to my needs on time and they are very punctual. Every time I talk to them they seem to know what they are talking about and don't try to talk above me which is a good thing.

I don't think I got anything out of this service. I would have been better off doing it myself. Pre-sales everyone was very friendly. I ran into one of their people on a service call and he was very nice too. But dealing with the phone calls about how I really need to sign up for this or that service was too much. I finally canceled, but then dealing with their billing department, which I believe consists of someone named Lydia Pacheco, was a nightmare. They did not post charges when they said they would so bringing my account current through the web site wasn't easy. When I told them to stop doing direct debit of my bank card they did it again anyway. About two months after a thought I'd finally paid them off and gotten rid of them they sent me a letter saying I owed them another $59.00. I questioned this in email and all I ever got from them was less-than-clear screen scrapes from some DOS based accounts receivable application. I finally paid them so they would go away. I'm not convinced I've heard the last of them. Trugreen corporate is less than helpful. Call them and you just get routed back to these guys in Chicopee. I summary, they're friendly, but a real nuisance to deal with. I'm back to doing my own lawn maintenance.
Description of Work: Lawn fertilization and weed control. Apparently I signed up for other services in one or more of their post-sales followup calls but I really don't remember.

We had them for a while. I was very dissatisfied with them. I would not hire them again. The billing office is in Arizona and the person who works for Tru Green is local. There was no communication between them. We had prepaid for the service of the company that sold out to Tru Green. When Tru Green came to perform the services that were already paid for, they billed me for them. We had a hard time communicating to them that those were services that were paid and we did not owe them anything for anything that they did. My husband and I were fairly border-line angry about the way it was handled. I finally had to send copies of the agreement that we had with the first company to Arizona. I don't know what they communicated to the person who is in Chicopee. We kept getting calls from them and they kept annoying us with other offers. I told them to take me off the mailing list and take me off their contact list. I didn't want to have any more to do with them. The occurrence with the billing began in September or October. It really disturbed us that they were trying to pull a fast one on us. The person who took over didn't do his homework and look into what the other company had handed over to him. I am sure that all the customers' dealings were somewhere in the package and they knew nothing about it. They just assumed. The work they did was okay. The problem was with the way they handled it and with the very unfriendly response they made to all our complaints and requests. We didn't hear from Arizona anymore. I guess they had turned the problem over to the local guy. The whole thing was dropped. They stopped annoying us. They were hard to get in touch with. It wasn't quick. They didn't care enough to handle the situation. They didn't give enough attention to it. That should have been something that they looked into and resolved instead of sending us billing notices and so on. They sent someone over without even telling us they were coming. It was mostly the billing area and the communication between the billing office which is three-quarters of the way across the country and the local office. It was almost as if they were having a hard time establishing communication between the 2 stations. We were stuck in the middle of it. It did leave us very frustrated and wondering what next to expect. Their professionalism was very bad.
Description of Work: Tru Green Corp came out in the fall to spray and do the fall treatment for the shrubs and the lawn.
