we have a crazy heating system; no one in the ten years we've had the house has really been able to figure it out. That's just life. When the heating stopped working (in January) we called Milltown. They were very responsive. We had a technician here in a day who figured out there was a leak. Finding the source, and how to isolate it was anything but simple. The tech in charge persisted (figured out, in fact that the system had been piped wrong) and solved the problem over the course of a day and a half. Many would have thrown up their hands or managed some bad technical band-aid. It was expensive (but plumbing sort of always is, and I don't think this rose to the level of unfair), but importantly the system is now better understood and there's no more leak. On top of that all of my questions were answered and the work was done well. Highly recommended.

Found this company from someone's recommendation, now really bad recommendation! Anyway, had sinks backing up - something plugged some place. I was actually out of town, so wife dealing with this situation. Date was August 15, 2018. 1st guy came out, looked good, but next day same situation. A very GOOD tech came out who fixed it, we thought. No issue with them coming back out - which was good. Then on 11/5 had new town water meter installed. After install, need to run water from upstairs tub/shower. After a few minutes while I was down in the cellar, water starts coming through the celling! Run upstairs and sinks on 1st floor were overflowing. Shutoff tub, call Mill Town. So for 3rd time they came right out (again good) - asked for same good tech, got him. He fixed, best he could but (this time) put blame on some drain pipe in cellar being too small? They did not charge extra, but said this was last free time for this issue. For this service original date was 8/15/18 and 8/16/18 and wife was charged $287.50. Not sure fair or bad price. So now we are going to have both gas range and dishwasher replaced. Call Mill Town to assist, and also asked for insinkerator (garbage disposal) install, as we had recently changed from septic to in-town sewer. Date was scheduled for afternoon of Wed 11/14, as that was the window Home Depot stated for delivery. Monday AM find that HD will delivery around 11/noon and Mill Town could not come earlier, so had to reschedule. 11/23 was Mill Town first open date. This time scheduled them for AM. Of course this time HD schedules the appliance delivery for 11-3, which I only find out about the night before. Mill Town arrived on-time around 9, un-hooked old range and dishwasher, added new connector for gas, and then installed 1/2 HP garbage disposal, Badger 5. Finished this around Noon, and we are still waiting for HD delivery with no real good info from them. Tech took lunch, and then had to leave, which I understand. Said they would come back to finish. Paid them $1602.60 for install of Garbage Disposal, with new unit (electric already there) and un-hook dishwasher and range, Here maybe 4 hours, even at $200 for equipment, that is $300+/hr??? HD was delayed with appliances (trunk broke down) and actually did not arrive until 5:30 PM. In 15 minutes appliances in house and old removed. Call Mill Town around 5 PM (Friday night) to say appliances would be delivered in next 30 minutes, for which they said if they came out then would be after hour rate. Told to call them back tomorrow. Called them on Sat AM, they said they would try and would contact me back. Never heard from them. Called them back Sat afternoon, told me to call them back Monday AM. Said I wanted to talk to Service Manager, was told they would tell him to call me. Called again Monday AM, said they would put me on stand-by. Why I was not there already after Friday evening and multiple calls on Sat, who knows?? They would call me if they had any openings. Now this is for job I already [over?] paid for. Also on Sunday evening wife was using sink, and with new garbage disposal install, sink was leaking. Turns out no plug in the hook-up for dishwasher, which was not yet installed! Told them this on Sat, still on standby. During day on Monday called them multiple times, same story on standby. Was told later in afternoon (too late) that they had called me 4 times, had tech available, but since no answer they sent him elsewhere. My iPhone showed no messages or no incoming calls, nor did my home phone which has Verizon Fios call screening and mailbox, which sends me an email for any left messages. Again request call from Service Manager - said he would call me Tuesday AM. Now Tuesday evening and no call from either Mill Town or Service Manager. I have at this point in time contact another plumber to try and get some one out. Hopefully someone from another company will be here on Thursday. By then almost a week with no range, no dishwasher and a leaking sink. I have placed a hold on check payment to Mill Town. This is the only thing that I am 100% sure I will get a call back from them about. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! Follow-on - now Tuesday 11/28. I got a friend to help me get a plumber today - Powderly from Billerica (978-663-0164). They came out this AM and finished all to PERFECTION. At least now I have a plumber to call and trust. Cost to me was $275. They said for what I had previously done, probably no more than $200. So total should have been no higher than $600 (on high side), not $1602.60!!! Then perfect timing. No more than 15 minutes after Powderly finishes and leaves, guess who calls? Yes Mill Town, and they think Service Manager had already called and spoken to me, which of course never happened. I am sure the only call I'll receive from Mill Town will be about payment, and maybe this review!

You are about to read one sided opinion, but this is our experience with this company. TL;DR, I wouldn't hire them, I felt they took advantage of us when we are in need for help, they just care about how to make the most money from us rather than helping us to complete the task. We are one of the restaurants effected by the 2018 Andover gas explosions. We hired Milltown to help us convert all the equipments to use propane so we can run our business while waiting for the natural gas to fix. Milltown's sale guy, Kevin inspected and told us that all of our equipments can be converted to propane with the conversion kits, we didn't know he was a sale guy when we first met him. He quoted us for $16870, we thought it was high but we had to go with them because we need to reopen our restaurant as soon as possible and we thought that we paid this much we might be able to move faster. A week later they came here to run the pipes and do all the equipment conversions and finally passed the inspection. It took them 2 guys about 3 days in total to run the pipe and changed all l the regulators. Everything passed the inspection, we paid them half for the deposit then we were about to write them the check for the rest but we hold off on paying them because when we started using the stoves to cook, all of the equipments produce only the red flame causing the smoke. Our chefs told us about his and we then contact Milltown and they hired an external contractor to come take a look but none of the actions taken to address the issue. We struggled but in real need to open the restaurant so we did. One of our chef left because he couldn't handle all the smoke. About a week or so, we got a call from the fire department that we had to shut the restaurant because of the gas leaks. We contacted Milltown, all we heard was that we had to pay what we owe them for another $8435 so they can come out here. The manager, Billy, Kevin's boss, threatened us the lawsuits if we won’t pay in full. We told them that what Milltown had done weren’t complete because we couldn’t cook with the smoke and the equipments now didn’t work as expected that was why Milltown had to hire the contractor in the first place. They said the work had completed when things passed the inspection, that was it. All the equipments including hot water heater need to be converted to electric as well. For the 75 gallon tank piping work, they charged us $4600, it took them less than 5 hours. We thought that outrageous but we don’t have time to switch to other plumber at this point.

Response from Milltown Plumbing, Heating, AC, Drain Cleaning & Electrical
We're sorry that this job got off to a poor start. Our communication was not as good as it could have been, and we work constantly to improve. When we fall short of the mark, we do whatever we can to make it right. At this time, all the issues have been rectified and we have left the restaurant better than we found it. In fact, the customer was happy enough to offer us work on an additional, similar project at their second restaurant also located in Andover which was affected by the same gas line incident. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to prove our commitment to quality service.

My main service person, Kevin, came in and immediately put on booties. He explained that he would assess the problems and then show me my options and present the costs. When he showed me the options, I was initially surprised by the rates and prices which seemed high to me. Kevin clearly explained the best and worst case scenarios and gave me many options for choosing what work I wanted to do given what I could afford. Another service person, Ari, came to work on the upstairs tub clogged drain. As they were both working upstairs, water started coming through the kitchen ceiling. They immediately halted and came downstairs to help. They placed bowls underneath the dripping areas and then put down a dropcloth. They had to open the ceiling to see where the water was coming from and it was clear that the ceiling was soaked and had been wet for some time. They found a pipe with a big, rusted and corroded hole that was the source of the water. They replaced the pipe and also snaked the line to clear the clog. Kevin replaced the shower valve and installed a new (and better) shower head. Kevin fixed the leaking kitchen faucet. Before they left, they cleaned up every speck and left the upstairs bathroom and kitchen areas cleaner than they were when they arrived. I also have to mention that it was pouring rain throughout the day, and when they had to go out to their trucks they never failed to put on their booties when they came back inside my house. Throughout the day (they were here all day), they were both pleasant, polite and completely professional. Although it cost me more that I had hoped, it was all work that had to be done and I am very pleased with the quality of the work and personnel. I would recommend them.

Water heater was cleaned but was extremely expensive. I was charged over $500 dollars for the cleaning which just involved vacuuming and brushing the unit. I called for a price to do the job before hand and they would not give me price until their contractor arrived. When he arrived he gave the price and said that if I did not use the service then I would be charged $85. Over priced, stay away.

I am an out-of-town landlord and Milltown did a great job responding to my immediate need to fix a leaking toilet in my rental property. However, over time, it turned out the repair was not completed properly and the toilet started leaking again. Milltown returned and fixed it again at no charge. Apparently the person who returned left a bit of a mess in the bathroom and again over time, the toilet started leaking again. I have moved onto a different provider.

Milltown Plumbing – owner “made good” for a negative experience While we had a negative experience with Milltown Plumbing (the narrative is below), the owner, Fred, called a week after the incident, apologized and promised to refund the cost of the service and to compensate us for our losses. He seemed very sincere and said that he sanctioned the plumber who did the work at our house. The Incident: We believe that one of their plumbers robbed us of a few small, but valuable household items and over $100 in cash. We recently had a plumbing emergency that required us to find a plumber who could take care of the issue on very short notice. We eventually contacted Milltown Plumbing who could send someone within a few hours; despite the fact that the “emergency service charge” was very high, we accepted it and waited for the plumber. When he arrived, he asked me to go the bathrooms and repeatedly flush and wait for the refilling of the toilet tanks; that got me out of the room where he was “timing” the refills to determine the water pressure. Eventually, he turned off the water to the house and made the repair. While doing it, he talked about the need to replace the water heater; I subsequently found out that the water heater was still under a full warranty. The next day I went to use something that was in a bathroom where the plumber went that I use every day and found that it was missing. My wife and I looked and could not find it and started to look around the house to see if anything else was missing. There were other small items missing and over $100 was missing from my wife’s purse. Given that we were not out of house between the plumbing work and the discovery of the missing items, we believe that the plumber sent by Milltown took the money and items while having me run around the house doing specious tests. I contacted a manager, Christian, at Milltown who said that he would investigate and promptly get back to me. Three days later he called and said that he asked the plumber who denied taking anything and looked in his truck and found none of the missing items. Four days later the owner, Fred, called and apologized and offered to compensate us for our losses and to refund the cost of the service.

Everything went great. By the time they left my heat was working and my house was starting to warm up nicely. A great group of professionals that I won't hesitate to call again when I need them.
Description of Work: After contacting another service provider for help with my baseboard heating and not getting anywhere for several weeks with that other company I contacted Milltown. They were great from start to finish. They were prompt for their scheduled appointment today. And while the job was bigger than anticipated Kevin and Alec and the rest of the Milltown team that showed up were pleasant and professional the entire time. They repaired a burst pipe, swapped out a pump for the water and helped to defrost some seriously frozen pipes.

Technician was courteous but could not explain high price other than to say that is how much they charged someone else in the same building.
Description of Work: I asked MillTown heating for an estimate for a drop in replacement of a Magic Pak furnace. I priced the unit online at between $3000 and $3500 plus labor, old unit disposal etc. My neighbor had one replaced and he said it took 2 people about 1/2 day to install. Mill Town came back with an estimate of $8000.00 for furnace replacement, basically they wanted to charge $5000 for 4 hours work. This price is obscenely high. When I asked why it cost so much he said 'It is heavy'. I ended up going with another company that was $3000.00 cheaper and the price included everything.

Jared from Milltown was thorough and professional. He inspected the old toilet and made an estimate for a new toilet and installation. I accepted the estimate. He was able to obtain the toilet I selected from local plumbing supply and returned with it and proceeded to install and take away the old toilet. All this took about two hours max. Cleaned up the area afterwards and have had no issues with the installation or the new water efficient toilet. Very happy with the work.

Milltown Plumbing did an excellent job checking out our Central AC unit at the start of the season. They arrived on time, worked efficiently, and were polite. All the repairs were done quickly, with high quality of work and no compromises.
Description of Work: I originally used an Angie's List coupon for an AC Tune up, but I also had them install a water line from the basement up through the floor for a refrigerator ice dispenser. When there they also found an issue with a broken humidifier that was wasting a lot of energy and we had that replaced. The services were quite expensive, but most plumbing work is costly and I was able to save around $50 by stacking the two services in the same day. There were two workers who showed up in a very professional looking van, and they were wearing tucked in polo shirts and had iPads to take all major credit cards, including Amex. Very professional!

Don't do any thing mentioned in there other than just watching the system work Even hheckihg whether drain is open had to be triggered by asking to check that. Changed the filter with what I gave him. Initially the compressor seemed to be working, moving the refrigerant but later when he was checking pressure told comepresser is. It working and to check capacitor asked for $175 where the system was already open Beware of what you are getting in to.
Description of Work: Bought the below deal from the site Here's the Deal: $59 for an air conditioner turn-on, tune-up, and inspection Check outside condensing coil and operating pressures Check for proper refrigerant charge and evaporator superheat Check temperature at the return and supply Check that condensate drain is open Lubricate all moving parts, check belt, and adjust tension Change standard disposable filter and check all safety and operational controls Check voltage and amperage Check operation of the compressor contractor Check start capacitor and relays, wiring and operations, inspect thermostat, and observe operation Quote will be given on-site for any additional work or repairs required The Real Deal: Maintain safe, effective cooling for less, and stay comfortable with this refreshing offer!
