They're great. We've used them a lot. It took a couple visits 'cause it was a hairy problem but they only charged for the one they fixed. They were very reasonable. They're very responsive. They always listen to what your concerns are. I got to know them so they're trustworthy. If the job wasn't done the first time just 'cause it's a really tricky problem, they understand that like I wasn't satisfied the first time around and then they came back and they looked deeply into the problem. They didn't look for problems. They're really honest. They're great.
Description of Work: They helped us with a heating line that hot water wasn't going through.

They responded to my call very quickly and got a plumber to my house soon after. He identified the problem but found he needed a part that was at their shop. It ended up taking him about 4 hours total (from the time he first arrived to when he left). He was very polite and professional.

The experience was as positive as could be for an issue. I was kept informed of what was needed, given estimates that were kept to exactly, and they delivered on time as planned. The staff was courteous, professional, and a pleasure to deal with. I was so happy with the experience, that I already plan on using them for a roof deck natural gas hook up and replacement for the master bath toilet. Thanks, Fred and staff.
Description of Work: Had two custom size water heaters located in a crawlspace above the master bedroom need emergency replacement. Fred had his staff respond immediately, (really ,within an hour of my call). They identified the problem, contained and stopped the leaking water.

They were late in contacting me. When they did, they informed me that the actual cost could be higher than the purchase price, that it was only good for 2 hours of work. This was not anywhere in the fine print, so I consider it a bait and switch. They also complained about the proximity of my home to their business. They said they'd get back to me, and never did.

Not so bad because they came fast and were willing to help. However, they were going to fix something that was not broken and the problem was going to persist.

Milltown Plumbing & Heating Inc is excellent. They are timely. They are reasonable. They are very nice to deal with. They came out on emergency basis when I them. They were awesome. They came out at my parent’s house in Massachusetts when something happened to the plumbing they were right out within an hour. I don’t know a month ago or something like that and they came and they did the plumbing for a new shower and they were great. They were very responsive. I felt like the price was reasonable for what they did.

We asked Milltown Plumbing to give us an estimate for a plumbing task that needed to be finished. The Milltown Plumbing came as promised But the two major problems I had with Milltown Service: 1) Their cost for service is way to high. You will be better off hiring another plumber who will do the same service at a lower cost. 2) Being charged for just driving up to our driveway: The guy came up to our driveway, but we told him we longer want his service. We tried reaching the service center, but was unable to talk to anyone to avoid his trip. Just because we made a phone call and his men drove up to our driveway, I had to pay a service fee of $85--Which is totally ridiculous. Will I hire them again: No way!

Yes they are expensive ($145/hr) but when comes to plumbing issues, I'd rather pay them that much then waiting for someone else for few more days
Description of Work: Bubbles coming out if toilet. Called couple other and no one picked up so called these guys and they were very prompt in picking up phone. Setup an appointment around 9-9:30. The guy who came over was good, gave us pointers ok what could've gone wrong and helped us find the cause. The only thing that was bad about the appointment was that thy came in too late. Initially they told me that they will be there around 9:30 but came around 11:30

One of the reasons I chose Milltown Plumbing was because their website claims an A+ rating from The Better Business Bureau. After the dreadful experience I had with them, I went to the BBB website and they clearly state that Milltown Plumbing & Heating in Chelmsford, MA is not a BBB accredited company. Here's the link: http://www.bbb.org/boston/Business-Reviews/plumbers/milltown-plumbing-heating-inc-in-chelmsford-ma-40924/complaints So, my experience with Milltown Plumbing started with a lie (or fraud, which is a civil and criminal wrong) which set the stage for many more to come. I was told by the woman I spoke to on the phone that the cost was $145/hour. OK. But, when the guy arrived and started doing the job, he told me I was misinformed (or lied to). It is $390 for the first hour and $145/hour for additional hours. I should have sent him packing right then. But, I was desperate. I couldn't stay in the house with a complete main drain blockage and I had already left work to be home. He surveyed the drainage piping and determined that the drain exited the house in the back. I told him that it exits to the front of the house, not the back, like he thought. He conferred. The guy worked for half an hour and then said he'd have to go back to the shop for a bigger auger (on the clock, of course). He told me he'd have to get another guy to help him carry it down to the cellar. Sometime later, two trucks showed up and the two guys carried the auger to my cellar. Guy number one worked the auger, while the second guy held a flashlight. At some point, the auger broke and they had to get another one from the one of the trucks. The whole process took under four hours to complete. The entire time, the first guy kept whining and telling me over and over hard it is, how hard he is working, and that it's the worst blockage he's ever seen. After the job was done and he finished cleaning up, he forgot to put a cap on a pipe they had cut. I had to remind him. While he was calculating the cost, he must have told me ten times that he's not ripping me off, which translates to, as psych 101 will tell you, that he's ripping me off severely. He also said many times that he's cutting a real sweet deal for me and giving me many breaks. I asked him what the breaks were and he said that he's going to be big about it and not charge me for the broken auger. This bears repeating: he wanted to charge me for equipment broken by a trained professional performing a function that it was designed for. I asked him if he was joking and with a straight face he told me that charging the customer for broken equipment was standard procedure, because it was expensive. He also told me that it was the roots in my pipe that broke the auger, so... I thought I was in a Marx Brothers skit. This is like a guy blowing his transmission while plowing your driveway and then sending you a bill for a new truck because it was the snow in your driveway that did it. The job took three hours and forty-five minutes, so it's rounded up to four hours. So that's an extra fifteen minutes times two (for two people) which is another half hour (in which no work was done) which equals $72.50 ($145/2). But the worst part is that they charged me $145/hour for guy number two to hold a flashlight for three hours. That's $435 for those keeping score at home. $435 for holding a flashlight for three hours. Wow. To be fair, he did more than hold the flashlight. He also laughed and joked quite a bit - giddy from the euphoria some people get from subjugating others. I guess I'm lucky they didn't bring a third guy in to direct traffic in my cellar. Guy number one told me several times not to flip out, which led me to believe that flipping out is the typical response from a customer who has just seen his bill. He told me that I was lucky it didn't go into overtime. I was afraid to ask what overtime cost. I could only imagine it involved my firstborn male child. The total bill was over $1000, so the hourly rate for the entire service works out to be in excess of $250/hour. This is essentially for putting a flexible metal cable down a pipe. You don't need to be a licensed plumber to perform this service. Anyone with an auger can do it. I sent them an email asking them why I had to pay $435 for a guy to hold a flashlight for three hours. They never responded. Too busy swindling and counting money, I guess. I don't mind paying good money for a job well done, but this swindle is beyond the pale. I don't know if any other plumber is as bad as this, but they couldn't possibly be worse.

Response from Milltown Plumbing, Heating, AC, Drain Cleaning & Electrical
Dear [Member name removed]: We apologize for your frustration about our performance, we like our technicians to approach every call professionally. This morning I talked at length with the technicians that provided the drain cleaning service. Unfortunately, they disagree with much of what you had to say about their performance. But this makes no difference to me; the customer’s word is my bond. So I will not quarrel with your objections. However, I would like to address this issue in a professional manner and our policy on drain cleaning. We do have an hourly labor rate which is $145. The technician is one person, and would not have been able to carry the larger auger alone nor would he have been allowed to do that alone due to safety issues. I understand your frustration that you were charged an hourly rate for the second technician, and I am more than happy to reduce the invoice to just the one technician. The original, and signed invoice, noted he snaked the main line, after several attempts, he was finally able to get through the house trap and snaked until we were able to break up roots and then provided a line flush to assure line was clear. Aside from sewer blockages and backups, tree roots growing inside sewer pipes are one of the most expensive sewer maintenance items experienced by our customers. I do believe that this was a difficult line to clear and our technician did work hard to clear the blockage, and was successful doing so. The roots in the line are what caused the auger head to break; however, we wouldn’t and did not charge you that. You had mentioned in your complaint that you should have sent us away, but you were desperate. You are completely correct in the fact that you could have, but you didn't, and no calls were made to the office during the 4 hours of us being there to question why it would be taking the technicians so long or what could be causing the delay in clearing the line. Please recheck our BBB accreditation and rating and note how few online complaints we have, especially since we average 80-100 service calls a week. If there were any concerns as to our BBB accreditation when you checked, you would have noticed any complaints or objections we have ever gotten. As I stated above, I would be happy to reduce the invoice to $652.50 for the labor for the first technician’s 4.5 hours onsite. You will not be charged for the trip to the shop for the larger auger, or the second technician. I have attached the signed copy of original invoice, showing were you signed the acceptance of work performed section prior to us leaving as well as form of payment. We have made an attempt to contact you via phone, however were not successful. We would like to settle this matter as soon as possible and clear up any hostile feelings towards Milltown Plumbing and Heating as a courtesy and discuss this matter. Regards, Milltown Plumbing & Heating
Dennis L.

My AO Smith hot water heater pilot would go out on occasion and I would just go down and re-light it. After the 4th time going through this routine the pilot would not re-light. I immediately thought it was the thermocouple after reading information about it on line. However, after taking the unit apart and checking, it did not turn out to be the thermocouple. I called Milltown and they promptly came out the next day and quickly diagnosed the issue. It turned out to be an electrical issue which they fixed and since I has purchased a new ($12.00) thermocouple, they installed it for me while they had the unit open for diagnostics. I paid the minimum hour charge but it was worth it and I would use Milltown again in the future.

Of course, we woke up on Sunday morning to a big puddle in our basement. I called around and Milltown was the first to have an actual person answer. The answering service took the concern very seriously and put us through to the plumber who was at Dunkin Donuts. He spent a good amount of time on the phone with me, and explained how to wait until the next day so it would be much cheaper. The plumber showed up first thing Monday morning, fixed the pipe quickly and was on his way. They will be our plumber from now on!
