Company has large staff that accomplished the job in under a week. The work quality is high and the neighbors have asked for information on the company. They saw how quickly the work was completed and how nice it looks. I plan to use them again in the future and don't understand the "B" rating. You'll be happy you hired these guys and they can handle all jobs, from construction to electrical work.

My house needed serious outside work, with an old roof missing sections of wind damaged shingles, rain leakage around the chimney, rotting cedar shingles, worn warped clapboards, old poorly working sliders to the deck, broken casement windows and old damaged storms. I interviewed several contractors and got estimates. Meagher Construction was recommended by a relative who had him do work on his house. The quality of that work on that house was excellent. Tim Meagher reviewed the job with me personally, made recommendations, gave a fair and reasonable price, and set a timetable. His presentation and previous work conveyed trust and professionalism. We agreed on the price and payment schedule, he did not require an advance deposit. They started on time, and kept on schedule. The workers were professional, efficient and courteous. The quality of work was excellent. Payments were made as the work was completed. There really were no problems. One of the new sliding doors had some defective glass from the manufacturer. Tim obtained a replacement and then installed the new one at no extra charge. He was available and responsive during the job. The whole project was done efficiently and at the agreed cost. I get lots of compliments from the neighbors. It was a pleasure working with this contractor and I can happily recommend them. Next is a new deck and you know who I'm going to call.
Description of Work: The job included a complete new roof, gutters and chimney flashing. The entire house was reshingled, all trim replaced with AZEK, and clapboards replaced and painted. They installed four new Anderson Sliding doors to deck, repaired existing casement windows, replaced two storm/screen doors, and outside lights.

It started off great, Tim Meagher was very responsive. I was diligent about making sure he got paid timely along the way and at the end after he was all paid it was like pulling teeth in order to get him to respond. One of the phone numbers he had given me had been disconnected, he allegedly had phone issues and did not get email. We had a very heated conversation on 6/29/2012 in which my disappointment got the best of me and I let him have it (verbally) to which he said he was calling the office to have the check sent to me. That was over a month ago. I have sent subsequent emails and he does not respond.
Description of Work: After confirming a few references I decided to hire Meagher Construction to replace my roof. We were aware that there were issues with the two chimneys. Being a lay person I went back and forth about having a mason identify and correct the issue. Tim Meagher said he would do it. He brought in his own mason and the chimney was reflashed/repoint. Prior to doing any work on the chimney I asked Tim what the alternatives were. He said we reflash/repoint and you will get another 5 years or so or you take it down and rebuild the whole chimney. I foolishly went with the reflashing/repoint. He charged me an additional $3100 for the two chimneys for the reflashing/repointing. After the roof was done, the water poured into the house near the chimneys. After FINALLY coming back out he said it was not a reflashing issue but rather a chimney issue. Standing with me and my carpenter he said if I ended up taking down the chimneys he would reimburse me the amount charged for the reflash/repoint. We took down one and are in the process of taking down the other. I have been chasing him for over a month for reimbursement. His voice mail is always filled and he does not respond to my emails. Funny, he was very responsive when he needed to get paid. I also had to speak with him 2 x about putting the roofing debris in my dumpster (part of his quote was to be responsible for the disposal of the roofing debris). I also asked him several times to remove all the boxes and trash from all the sky lights that he left in my garage. He never responded. In addition to the chimneys he did not put in a drip edge which caused water to get into another wall. Also upon getting the chimney rebuilt it was discovered that he did put in a ridge vent but it was not cut in so essentially it was just a visual for the lay person (several contractors working at the home confirmed this). I am incredibly disappointed as I feel he took advantage of me as a regular home owner/lay person as well as being a woman. Tim, do the right thing and just reimburse me please and I will consider it a VERY expensive learning lesson.

Response from MEAGHER CONSTRUCTION
In the beginning of March, 2012, Meagher Construction was contacted by her to do a roofing job at her family home. Meagher Construction agreed to give an estimate on said project. Meagher Construction's references were checked by her and the job was awarded. At that time, the home was filled with black mold. Tim Meagher recommended a mold remediation contractor to help fix the problem. It was also discussed that the chimneys were in dire need of repair and had been leaking for years. This was the cause of some of the mold issue. Meagher Construction did not want to begin any roofing work until the chimneys were repaired. She agreed and had hired her own mason to do repairs such as broken chimney caps, broken morter, broken flus, and roof line flashing. She agreed no roofing work would be done until the chimneys were repaired by her mason. Two weeks went by and the mold remediation company had agreed that no mold remediation was to be done until the new roof was on because it was leaking in so many spots. At this time, she contacted Tim Meagher and was very anxious to start the roofing project because the mold company would not start until the roof was done. Tim expressed his concerns about starting the roof because her mason had yet to start fixing the chimneys. A week went by and her mason had still not started his portion of the project. She then asked Tim if there was anything else he could do to help her with the process because it was becoming obvious that her mason was too busy. Tim then said he would try and find a mason to do the roofline flashings only to get the roof work started. Tim expressly stated that he was not locating a mason to do all other work such as broken caps, flu liners, missing bricks and mortar. Tim then found a mason to do the roofline flashing so the roof work could start. This was at no profit to Meagher Construction, but simply as a courtesy to get the project rolling for the homeowner. Tim clearly explained to her that the roofline flashing would not leak but if the rest of the chimney work was not completed that the chimneys would continue to leak. All roofing work was done and the roofline flashings were completed. It is Meagher Construction's policy that we do not ask for deposits for projects under $50,000.00. We feel that it is very unprofessional to ask for money when no work has been done. The only thing we ask is that when the project is complete, we meet the homeowner, do a walk around the property, address any concerns and if all concerns are met, we get paid. We believe this is a fair process to both the homeowner and the contractor. This was done with her. She was very happy with all the work done. The only concern she had was that we had put some debris in her dumpster. She and Meagher Construction had both hired the same dumpster company and there were two identical red dumpsters in the driveway right next to each other. Tim agreed that they had put some debris in her dumpster unknowingly. Tim then called the dumpster company and agreed to have them put half of her dumpster on his account. This was satisfactory to her. At this point, she paid her bill in full and Meagher Construction believed the job was completed. Approximately three weeks later, she contacted Tim and stated that her chimneys were leaking. Tim agreed to meet on site and address any issues. As soon as Tim pulled in the driveway, he could tell that the work that was the responsibility of her mason had not been completed on the chimneys. Tim then told her that he had told her that the chimneys were going to leak unless the work was completed. She then stated that she had a contractor at the house that told her that there was nothing wrong with the chimneys and it was the roofline flashing that was leaking. Tim disagreed. At this point, Tim climbed on the roof with a hose in front of her and her contractor. He then proceeded to spray all roofline flashing with a hose for fifteen minutes. This is on video. No water entered the home. Tim then changed the location of water on the chimney to areas he had been concerned about before the project began. Within one minute, the chimneys started to leak. This is also on video. Tim then asked her contractor to come look at what he has been talking about the whole time. Her contractor then agreed that there were some major issues with the chimneys and they need some major repair. He then told Tim that he was going to get another mason to fix all problems. Her contractor agreed that it was not the replaced roofline flashing that was leaking. It was the chimneys themselves. Approximately two weeks went by and Tim received a call from her. She was very agitated and began screaming and swearing at Tim because she had found out that her chimneys were in such disrepair that they needed to be completely replaced. Tim had suggested this months prior, but her contractor assured her they could be repaired. Tim then tried to get her to calm down and explained that this was no way to go about solving this problem. She continued to be irate and belligerent. Tim then ended the call. We feel it is important to note that Meagher Construction was only trying to do her a favor by finding her a mason to fix the roofline flashing to keep the project moving forward. Again, the roofline flashing repair was done at no profit to Meagher Construction. It was always her responsibility to find a mason to fix the leaking chimneys. She, in her complaint with Angie’s List, indicated that she hired a contractor to put up drip edge on the rakes. This is not standard practice unless it is a go-over application. This means that existing shingles stay on the house and new asphault shingles are applied over the old shingles. This was not the case. Meagher Construction will stand by its’ theory that drip edge going up rakes is not necessary unless it is a go-over roof. After discussion in the office about the project, we do not feel it is our responsibility to refund roofline flashing funds because the chimneys needed to be taken down. Again, this process was at no profit to Meagher Construction and Meagher Construction had paid $3,100.00 to a mason for this work to be completed. Tim felt from the beginning that this project was too big for her to attempt. Tim explained many times that he felt that she needed to hire a local general contracting company to help her as the house was in such disrepair and this project was going to be tough even for an experienced general contracting company. While working at the home, many neighbors stopped by and indicated that this project would likely not end well. Apparently, they were correct. Meagher Construction does approximately 50 to 75 roofs per year and has done so for 12 years. Meagher Construction has been locally owned and operated during that time. Meagher Construction has never dealt with an issue such as this. Meagher Construction has been a member of the Better Business Bureau since day one and has always maintained an A+ rating.
