+ 1 moreJoe Jancek was punctual and gave us several great options for our basement issues. His work is a bit more expensive than other contractors, but it's also designed to last much longer (the new basement door is designed to have a service life of 50 years!) he was also quick to respond to questions - in particular, he would reply quickly to email. I would definitely hire him again.
Description of Work: 1) Replaced a exterior basement door (plywood) with a custom commercial door. The door was half-height, so it required a custom order. 2) Remove and rebuild basement steps.

+ 1 moreThe project went extremely well. Before a contract was finalized, Joe worked patiently with us to define affordable solutions to what could have been much more expensive repairs. He showed up when he said he would and his crew was very considerate of us while they were on site. The finished work is of very high quality and his attention to detail helped to maintain the attractive exterior appearance of our house. Overall, this was a very positive experience.
Description of Work: Over a period of two weeks, Joe and his crew replaced and/or repaired a large amount of deteriorating exterior pine woodwork on our house. This included front step and porch rails, balusters, posts, postcaps and risers, as well as crown molding and fascia trim in various locations. The replacement materials were Azek or pine treated with an epoxy finish. He installed a brace and disassembled a structural post in a corner of our front porch, replacing a rotted section with pressure treated lumber and recladding the post with Azek. He installed a metal drip edge between the asphalt shingles and the cedar drip edge on areas of the house where moisture was causing a problem.

+ -1 moreen good, so we didn't have that problem.Joe was here when he said he would come. It was cold weather, so I really expected him to want to wait until Spring, but he said it wouldn't be a problem. We have an unfinished cellar, and I've been working from home a lot, so I really noticed the cold. He suggested the windows, and bulkhead, did the buying, and finished in the time he said he would.
Description of Work: Joe Jancek has done a lot of work on my turn-of-the-century house. Most recently he installed new cellar windows and a bulkhead, which have been excellent in keepingheat in and varmints out! I notice a big difference in comfort with warmer floors. Joe is reliable and honest, and his prices are reasonable.

He does everything from handyman work to energy-conservation repairs. He has a reliable corps of sub-contractors for jobs that require permits in a specific trade. He is certified as a Lead-Safe Contractor by the EPA and Mass. Div. of Occupational Safety. He is fully insured, and regularly participates in continuing education courses learning new code requirements.
We are not roofers, although we are insured to perform certain tasks involving roofs. We co-ordinate with architects as a design-build team. We team with an energy-efficiency auditor, plumbers, electricians, flooring specialists and tile installers.
We work with a structural engineer, and have recently added an artisan and muralist who does decorative painting as well.
