My experience with Marathon Movers was very positive. We had a big move over a short period of time. We moved from the Southcoast region up to the North shore of Boston. I found Marathon Movers on "Angie's List" and I checked out their website, liked what I saw so I made the call for an estimate. An important factor for my husband and I was that Marathon Movers is approved to do military moves. Being a former military family, we knew that a company that was approved to do military moves has higher standards in order to be certified for moving military families) Lucas McGary, Sales Manager, came out the end of November when we were not fully sure what type of move we would be having in early January. At that time, we had not sold our home yet so we were looking into the storage option. Lucas was pleasant, punctual and organized. He gave us 3 estimates, (a "Deliver from Storage" another was "Load to Storage" and the third was "No Storage"). He would keep in touch with me weekly, to see how we were doing with our moving plans and to see if I had any questions. Out of the four companies we received estimates from, Lucas at Marathon Movers was the only one who followed up with us. By Christmas, we knew we our home was sold and a direct move was going to happen the first week in January, and Marathon Movers was our choice!! When moving day came, I can say all the same comments about the moving team. It was a team of 5 people who all worked well together. They came to pack our house one day, and then back the following day to load everything on their 3 trucks. Our household goods were stored on the trucks for a day and a half until we closed on our new home. (Since it was a slow time for the moving company, Marathon Movers was very accommodating and they even waived the $750.00 fee that normally we would have had.) Two days later, Marathon Movers were at our new home at 11 am when our closing was done, to move us in! They had us moved into our home by 5:30 pm! There was absolutely no stress on our part as far as the work they were doing. We fed the team lunch all 3 days and they were very so appreciative. Marathon Movers are rated high because they have a good product! We were never disappointed from start to finish!! It was a very positive experience for my family. I would recommend Marathon Movers to anyone!

After being happy with the work they did on an earlier move, we rehired Marathon to do a full house move. Lucas came out to estimate the job, and came back on day one of the move and was great to work with throughout. The job they needed to do had some very specific requirements - namely not wanting to track snowy boots onto very expensive carpets. The guys took the initiative to cover all the floors the "outside shoe" guys would touch, made sure that only "clean shoe" guys moved things internally and that only "new shoe" guys actually walked on carpets to place furniture. They did all of this agreeably, willingly and with a sense of humor! Over two days of a two man crew and two days of a six man crew we had them running up 3 flights of stairs, carrying mattresses up spiral staircases, dismantling and reassembling a bunk bed that seemed to have a thousand pieces and otherwise testing their abilities at every turn - they passed with flying colors! I can't say enough great things about everyone at Marathon - thank you Lucas, Mike, Jon, Jim, Nick, Josh, Jamie, Serge, and Matt!

Overall, I could not ask for a better moving experience.

Lucas arrived and provided a great customer interface. Sat down and went over our needs, described company's approach, talked about contingencies and reponsibilities. Checked out the condo and basement, answered questions carefully. We asked for an estimate of "not more than" so that we weren't surprised by the final bill; this was provided without issue. The movers arrived on time but one less guy than we anticipated. We called Lucas directly that morning and the additional guy was present for the unpacking, which was much more laborious. The movers were careful, courteous, good-humored, and asked us how we wanted various items handled along each step of the way. They were great. A fence post finial was damaged in the move; Marathon handled the replacement of this without any hassle. They followed up with us and we did not have to chase them down for that. MUCH appreciated. Easy to work with pleasant overall experience. Not the least expensive but not unresaonably more than anyone else. Worth it. Recomment without reservation.

I am extremely happy with these guys. I couldn't have moved without them. We sold our house and were in a hurry to move out - these guys helped me pack, load the stuff into 5 storage pods. They wrapped things up carefully and have all the moving materials. When they showed up, I just sat back and relaxed. They showed up on time each time. They are fast, courteous and professional. Not one thing broke when I unpacked the stuff. Will definitely use them again.

Great - moving is stressful enough. The three men who came to help were professional, fast, cautious, communicative and helpful. They loaded everything in the truck in 45 minutes, double-checked the directions before they got into the truck, unloaded everything in 45 minutes, and even helped take the things out of our cars that we moved ourselves. Great experience.

Great experience from start to finish. Lucas came out a few weeks before to go over the details of the move. He was punctual and pleasant. We were made to feel quite comfortable with the whole process. On moving day, the crew was punctual, professional, respectful, nice, and easy to work with. The team worked very hard and everyone had a great attitude. We had a lot of things to move, including a very heavy piano. The guys were so careful and just worked tirelessly all day. We were really impressed! Thank you, Marathon!!

Not great. There were several items damaged, and although I made sure to give them instructions as to which items were fragile and needed to be handled carefully and packed on top of all the heavy, non-breakable boxes. The movers didn't pay attention to my instructions and labels ("Fragile," written on the tops and sides of boxes with breakables.) Due to this lack of communication with fellow movers and not listening or paying attention, there were some fragile boxes that were put on the bottom of a heavy stack of boxes, and they mixed up several things that needed to go into storage and which we needed in our apartment, thus requiring a second day of having them come out and the need to make several claims on damaged items that I bought extra insurance for. Aside from these problems, they were pretty professional and they may have just been having a bad day. Therefore, they were no better than other movers I've used in the past.

My wife got injured loading stuff into our rental truck that should have gone into the mover's truck. (No. We did not sue) That resulted in the following unexpected expenses: * Hotel room and return flight for someone to drive my wife's car. * Extra Realtor fees for extra services suchas hiring and supervising professionals to do my wife planned to do herself. * In-house health care. * Eventual additional surgery and complications thereof. * Prolonged unpacking and settling in. In hindsight: * The final cost exceeded the quote we got from a premium interstate company that does and takes responsibility for everything from pick-up through delivery themselves. * We wish we hired them. Overall Satisfaction and Performance scores were derived as follows: * Marathon Moving Company = A * Steven's Worldwide Van Lines = F * Average / Midpoint = C This dilutes Marathon Moving Company's accountability. The negative impact from Steven's Worldwide Van Lines far outweighs every positive contribution. If they were one company, the Overall Satisfaction and Performance scores would be F.

Overall, the move went great. Lucas was our sales rep - he was prompt and knowledgable when he came to do the in-home estimate, and though I'm sure he has been doing this a while, his estimate was almost exact in terms of how many hours the job would take (approximately 9). Price was very reasonable, and the 4 men who worked the move were are all pleasant, professional, and worked hard. I would definitely use Marathon again, although I hope I'm not moving again soon!

The woman on the phone - Sheila - was super friendly and helped me understand exactly what my budget and estimate would be - they have a very fair checklist of items they use when they price to you, and it was great to set a realistic budget ahead of the move. They offered nice discounts and savings, and were available, fast, and friendly. The day of the move, they did a fabulous, fabulous job. Super pleasant and nice team of movers, on time, and helped me wrap very large or cumbersome items. They wrapped all furniture in blankets with tape, wrapped all boxes with extra tape, paintings were carefully wrapped, and they carefully checked any delicate items with me. They carefully moved all the furniture down three flights of stairs to the truck on a hot day - no breaks - they worked very hard. They had nice senses of humor the whole time too. When we got to the new place, they carefully unwrapped everything, helped me put furniture gaurds on the bottom of the couch and tables and my bed so I wouldn't mark up the new floors (this was just to be nice). They positioned all the furniture carefully and checked with me that everything was in the right place. The whole move took half a day - very fast. They did a super job. I don't have a single complaint, and would definitely recommend them to others - they were a great choice, and will take good care of your things.

The team from Marathon is really incredible. Their estimate was the mid-range of three quotes that we received, but I trusted theirs the most because a representative from the company actually came to our apartment to see how much we needed to move so that he could craft an accurate quote. They gave us the option of having their crew take care of the moving permits for a modest fee, which we gladly took them up on given how hectic things were for us as we got ready to move. They also quoted some additional materials to ensure they could protect our newly refinished floors and painted walls. Again, we were happy to approve that cost and it was well worth it. The floors and walls were well protected and we managed to get into the new house with only a few minor smudges on the walls that came off with soap & water. We also took advantage of one additional service that Marathon provides -- move out cleaning. We have a new baby and did not have the energy or time to do the thorough cleaning of the apartment we were leaving that we felt was necessary. A crew came in and took care of everything, and our landlord was thrilled with the condition we left the apartment in.

I used Marathon Moving Co. based on their reviews on this site and I contacted them and many others looking for quotes before I booked my movers. Marathon provided by far the best initial estimate and at the best price. The contact I had with the office personnel was efficient and friendly, really top class. On Moving day the 3 movers from Marathon arrived on time and had us packed up and on our way to our new place in no time at all. Efficient and professional, careful and considerate all 3. It was the same story at our new address; quick and careful. Not a single item scuffed, damaged or broken and why would it be - everything was wrapped up carefully before being loaded onto the truck. Oh and did I mention that they broke down the bed, wrapped it, delivered it and reassembled it too. All round excellent service from a professional outfit, no hesitation in recommending to others and when I move again in 6 months time, I know who I will call first.!

Excellent experience with this company. This is the first time I used them for my own personal move. I had a number of items that I'd purchased at Ikea which were made of particleboard and I was expecting them to be damaged or fall apart during the move, however care was taken by Marathon Movers to ensure that they didn't. This included a bed and a bureau which was already falling apart. Marathon arrived on time and finished in a timely manner. I didn't even notice them taking lunch. Nothing was damaged or went missing. Overall I felt highly comfortable with their staff on my move. They also accommodated a last minute schooling change.

$2400 Two movers came out a few days prior to our move and packed delicate items, china closet, large mirrors, pictures and lamps. We had 4 men moving us on move day and all went well.

Dave, Johnny, Tito, and Will showed up and did a great job packing the trucks. We had the house packed/boxed prior to their arrival leaving the furniture for them to wrap-up and move. They packed up two trucks and took them to their storage location on Day 1. The trucks arrived at our new house on Day 2 after our closing and they unpacked and put the boxes/furniture in the appropriate rooms throughout the house. They had a great attitude and worked diligently to get the truck packed up quickly. They arrived when they said they would and worked quickly to get my family moved in. I would hire them again for a move inthe future.

Marathon was fantastic from start to finish. Due to a lot of factors beyond my control, I called in my request to move, much later than normal. Lucas who came the next day to perfom an estimate. In order to fit us in, they set us up for a 3 part move. They sent three workers for each of the 3 days of the mover. All of the workers were fantasic. They were pleasant, hardworking and extremley professional. My things were wrapped well and carefully removed from my home. I've used other movers in the past and they don't compare to Marathon. I can't say enough good things about them!

I was very very pleased w/ the work of Dave and the crew. They were hard working, polite, careful, and resourceful around various obstacles. They were patient too with where furniture was to be positioned at the new house. The piano didn't cause them any issues whatsoever. On Do's and Don'ts:Do ask for Dave and his crew. Do feel comfortable leaving them unattended to do the packing and loading. Don't let them refer you to Lucas if you've to move a pool table. He's one of their sales guys and does pool table moves as an independent operator but can only work outside normal hours. I didn't know this when I agreed to use him and it just dragged out the move. Don't be surprised if they come in a little over estimate. It seems all movers do this. In my case they came in 20 percent over...

The movers were very nice and the quality of the move was good in that they did not ding up the walls or items on either the move in or out. I was very unhappy, however, with the price. We had Lucas come and he looked at everything we had to move and gave us an estimate, but the final price was 25% higher than the estimate. The moves were on hot days, but not hot enough to account for how slowly they moved and how often they would disappear into the truck for long stretches of time. The topper for me was when they finished the move out of the house, they sat in the truck for half an hour to get the paperwork together. Given the hourly rate ($140/hr for two movers) I did not appreciate paying $70 for them to tell me how much I owe for that portion of the job.

They were excellent. They were very fast, efficient, and worked well as a team. They worked very professionally and I was very comfortable working with this company.

They were the only mover that came out for a site survey before providing an estimate. Their salesman was very professional. The office followed up three times (including the day of the move) to confirm the start time. They arrived on time, took a quick walk-through and got to work without delay. Dave's crew was amazing, they really hustled without causing any damage to our furniture even though several pieces were a tight squeeze through narrow doorways. We did all the boxing and they did all the lifting. That is the way to go! Overall, a great experience. I plan to move with them again next time.

The overall business manager was very professional and attentive to our needs. She was pleasant to work with and kept in constant contact. When we had some communication discrepancies, she handled it very well and put our interests first. She also followed the job from start to finish to guarantee our satisfaction. The move teams were also very pleasant to work with and very professional. We trusted them and they demonstrated their experience and strong commitment to performing a quality job.

To whom it may concern: On April 17th, 2012 my family moved into a larger home. We looked at multiple reviews online and ended up selecting Marathon Movers. I had never before used a moving company and other than the Angie's List research had no prior experience with Marathon. I was actually quite nervous about the move and fearful that there would be damage to my belongings and home. In the end, things really worked out well. Lucas was my sales person and gave me a competitive quote. I asked Marathon to arrive at a specific time and they honored that which was helpful and a good way to begin. The crew was led by Dave who listened carefully and really took the time to do the job quickly and carefully. The workers (three others, not counting Dave) were superb and cautiously wrapped all key items. I was extremely impressed with Marathons professionalism and how hard they worked. I honestly don't think my "job" could have been handled any better. I would highly recommend them. ~M

Overall it went great. They showed up on time, Al and his team were very friendly, they packed everything and moved it to the new house. The only problem was a big IKEA closet with sliding glass doors that they had a hard time putting back together. In their defense, the d*** thing was super complicated and not having to take it apart and rebuild it was in fact the main reason I chose to use movers and not do it myself with a rental truck... Eventually this was resolved with a third-party furniture expert that they brought in (and paid for). The other great thing was that they provided a firm estimate, and stood by it. Other than the frustration having to do with the closet, which would have likely happened with any other moving company, they were an absolute pleasure to work with, professional, honest and polite, I would highly recommend them.
