They did a wonderful job! The workers were excellent and came back immediately when I had an issue with one area of the wall. Their price was great and everything looks wonderful. The salesman actually had some of the same ideas I had, and he was very easy to work with. Several people have seen the work and since decided to use Lux!

They are good people. Their workmanship was good and they started on time. They started on the day they said they were going to start and finished when they said they would. The final product looks very beautiful. Our point person for Lux & Corning was very responsive.

It turned out very well. However, they failed to get back to me after the work was done -- even though there were constant reminders. I needed one extra box of floor tiles in case I needed to replace tiles in the future -- eventually I had to buy another box from a different vendor.

It was OK. Delays in construction due to permit issues. Believe it was caused by city of Portland. We thought it was very messy project. Had to remind workers to clean the space. Had to call back to have them clean the floor linoleum before carpeting. In the beginning it was difficult to reach the project manager who was working outside of Maine. Later on it seemed to improve. The workmen came from Rhode Island and stayed overnight in Portland. After the carpet was placed, we had to call back due to carpeting in stairs became unfastened. A light fixture in another section was broken by workmen. Replacement was done much later by the project manager. We were told that it would not be necessary to have a dehumidifier because of the type of construction with Insulation. So far the humidity this summer has been high in the basement area. In the range of 69+ degrees. We are generally satisfied with the appearance, however the work was a somewhat difficult experience. Although we have said below that we would use Lux again, we would do some serious thinking before deciding. As far as we know no one else in this area performs Corning basement construction. We are satisfied with the Corning product.

Absolute pleasure from start to finish, from the first meeting with the design/sales rep to the installation crew. My Wife and I wanted to replace the windows in our house as soon as we moved in. The house was built in 1955 and the windows were hard to operate, ugly, and most important to us was the heating and cooling cost. The new windows have solved all of those problem and more. The house looks brand new with the new casing trim outside (the guys did a great job inside and out). The installers were great, very clean and very easy to communicate with. I wanted to feel how these windows performed in all seasons before writing a review, all I can say is WOW!!! If you are looking to install a high end window at a great price, don't waste your time like we did shopping around, this is a one "stop shop". Thank you again!!!

They were fantastic all the way around. I was really pleasantly surprised at the workmanship, the quality of the work and the product. I was happy all the way around. It was very expensive. Owens Corning System is more expensive than anyone else. They even had a woman doing some carpentry work. She and the rest of the crew did really great. Their pricing could have been a lot better. With regard to responsiveness, Dan Walsh came up to my house. If I made a phone call, he was at my house either that day or the next day. He was fantastic. They were on time. They were professional.
Description of Work: Owens Corning Basement Finishing System did basement refinishing for me. They did electrical and walls including lighting, outlets and a surround. They didn’t do the ceiling and the wall. They did 80% of the basement remodeling.

The salesperson was polite, however, the sales presentation dragged (35 minutes) on and I stated that we needed to cut-to-the-chase and get a ballpark estimate in the interest of time. In fairness, he never had a chance to arrive at a final number, however, after he looked at our 850 square foot basement and started throwing out numbers like $60k without a ceiling or floor (walls only), I indicated I was not interested at all! For what he was proposing, it should not have been more than $17k.
Description of Work: No service was rendered, however, the salesperson came to our home in order to discuss that value of their product.

I met them at a festival when I signed up to win a free finished basement. A really nice young man came by to measure everything. He came back with a really big amount of money so we said we didn't have a chance to do it at all because it was really expensive. I saw in their reviews that they have the same experience where the first guy said that he was young and didn't know things. Then another guy comes and gives a better price if we would sign right then. It was like a bait and switch. They were professional but I didn’t know if they were honest. We knew their tactics.

I have already put down a deposit. I put down a third which was about $1,600. I talked to 3 different companies and they had the best quality. They are more expensive but the quality is far beyond the others. It should take about a week once they get started.

I made arrangements for a company representative to come to my house to provide an estimate of costs for finishing my basement. The man who came was very nice, professional, prompt, courteous. I was impressed with his knowledge and experience. Therefore, I am grading his performance above with an "A" in punctuality and professionalism. The problem is that he was at my house for two and a half hours, from 6:30 until 9 pm, and I felt bad but finally had to ask him to leave because I was just so tired! He understood and said he had everything he needed to work up the costs and would call me with the estimate. Instead, however, I received a call from someone else at the company, refusing to give me the estimate either over the phone or in writing, insisting that I need to make yet ANOTHER appointment with a company representative to come back to my house again! Therefore, I gave them a grade of "F" in "responsiveness." I'm annoyed that they won't provide me with the estimate, of course, after wasting my entire night. But more important, I'm concerned about undertaking a project with a company that is so unreasonably inflexible and seems to have one and only one way of conducting business - their way - with no consideration for what is convenient for or in the best interests of their potential client. That disregard for customer service concerns me a great deal, particularly with this sort of project that involves a lot of on site work. I was impressed with the product, too, and probably would have pursued the project had they just given me the estimate - I'm truly perplexed.

We had an Owens Corning sales representative come to our house, explain the unique Owens Corning system, show the promotional DVD, then take drawings and make a contract offer on the spot. The initial price was shocking and way beyond our budget: $91,500. They do not let you sit on the offer: you have to sign when the representative is there. We refused to sign. We subsequently allowed one of their "designers" from the Boston-area franchise to come do the same thing: he had to re-measure the things that were done before. The second quote was about $58,000 or a 20% discount($47,000) if you agreed to let them use the job as a showcase for other prospective buyers. We thought this was a significant improvement, so we signed; however, after doing some web research, I found that this sales tactic of lowering the price and even the percentage has been commonly reported, which made us feel like we had been taken in by high-pressure sales tactics. We used a three-day contract cancellation clause to void the contract. Given the cost of this project, we weren't comfortable being pushed into signing. We subsequently saw a local basement done by Owens Corning, and it was OK, but gave us the impression of being in an office cubicle area. Some people are fine with this, but ultimately it was not to our taste. We did not decide to use them. To be fair, the main selling point is that they claim to be able to do the job in 2 weeks (versus 8-12 weeks for a regular contractor using sheetrock walls), and the ability to remove the wall material (insulation plus synthetic covering) if you need access to the area behind the wall, and that the wall material will breath; however, I felt that seeing the local basement that there were these small attention-to-details issues at seams and joints and that they don't necessarily use the same subcontractors each time, which made me feel uncomfortable with using them. Mostly it was the high-pressure sales tactics and exorbitant price that put us off. The guy who was selling us on the project would not be involved in the execution of the project. For something this substantial, I need a good relationship with the contractor, which is why we opted for a traditional contractor.
Description of Work: Owens Corning bid on a basement remodeling job for a 750 sqft basement. They proposed to demo the area, put in the Owens Corning wall system, lighting, hung ceiling, electrical outlets, replace windows, and some stair work. Carpeting was to be extra through a firm that they use locally.

Horrible! The worst part was the sales process. Think of a stereotypical used car dealer-only the guy is in your house and you can't get him out without literally telling him he has to go. It started with a horrible hour-long PowerPoint-type presentation, telling anyone who is considering this sort of product a bunch of things that they already know-like that moisture and mildew are problems in basements. We finally got the quote after this unduly long presentation. The second worst part was the price-approximately $25,000(!)-after special discounts purportedly only available if we signed up that night and other special discounts available if we agreed to do an open house for them. This would have involved pamphlets being sent to our neighbors, Owens Corning parking some sort of van in our driveway (picture it-the Pink Panther logo), and-the cherry on top-signing a confidentiality agreement about the price we paid. The salesman actually suggested we lie to our neighbors-he said we could tell them the non-discounted price. I kicked the guy out after literally two hours.

I submitted a request via the website and was contacted by the salesman. He came out and sketched out the room and did a hard sell. We chose not to sign, despite being called the next day by a manager with a lower price. The salesman's boss came out and when we were able to get the price dropped significantly, we signed on in September. Work began at the end of October. Absolutely pleased and the work provided us additional living space, which we just love.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled 1/2 of our basement. This includes steel studs on the wall, Owens Corning Basement kit walls, drywall in a few small areas, creating a closet, installing 3 doors, boxing out stairs and installing handrails, ceiling tiles, lighting, heat, and 5 new windows for the entire basement. Entire process took only 4 days! I could not be happier!

WE REALLY LIKE THE FINISHED PRODUCT. WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE WAS DEALING WITH THE SALESPERSON. THEY JUST TRIED TO PULL SOME FAST ONES ON US CONCERNING THE COST. FOR EXAMPLE THEY CHARGED US FOR ONE TYPE OF TILE, AND INSTALLED ANOTHER. THEY DO ITEMIZE THE COST OF THINGS, AND HAVE HIDDEN DISCOUNTS. THEY INITIALLY GAVE US A DISCOUNT IF WE SIGNED UP THE NIGHT THE SALESMAN CAME OUT, AND THEY RENEGED ON THAT WHEN WE SIGNED UP. THE CONTRACT MANAGER ALSO ADVISED US NOT TO GET A PERMIT, WHICH WAS NOT A GOOD IDEA, AND WE GOT A PERMIT IN THE END.
